• Site stopped working after adding NIC card

  My boss made a bit of blunder yesterday, he added a secondary NIC card to the a machine hosting a website so that it could be part of the local network. He also added it to the <blah>.local domain (which all our servers are being added too). The website failed following this. He thought this was because the machine was now called <blahblah>.<blah>.local, so he removed it from the domain and restarted. Same problem a asp.net error, something to do with a binding error. Sorry he didn’t make a note of it. He traced it back to the WCF services that are running on the site. Anyway, it looks like ASP.NET gets confused connecting to the database when there’s multiple network cards. The 173.x.x.x IP address (which is internal), doesn’t route to the internet.. Therefore it’s trying to connect via the wrong network. Any ideas about how to resolve it?

• HD Video Capture Card w/ Good API?

  Does anyone here know of a good HD video capture card that has a good (comprehensive) API? I administer a few servers that do some video encoding right now, but when we make the switch to HD cameras, they won't be sufficient. In addition to this, the servers we have now are black boxes, closed to me except to start/stop the video capture device. I'd like to be able to roll my own, so we can better integrate it with our existing systems, but I know almost nothing about what kind of HD capture cards are out there, and if I can avoid spending money just to test their APIs that would rock. So does anyone have any experience with this? All our other software is in C#, and I'd like to set up the new servers with web interfaces to start/stop the capture (also in C#, using .NET 3.5 probably). I'm not sure how language specific these APIs would be, but that's what I'm working with just as a reference point. I appreciate any help the community can give!

• Vista machine hardwired cannot see xp laptop on wireless

  I have a laptop with windows xp, connected to my wireless router. I am trying to view the shared files on the laptop with my vista desktop computer. The desktop computer is hardwired to the same router. I can see the desktop pc fine on the xp laptop, and view the shared folders. I cannot see the xp laptop when on the desktop pc. I have tried installing the link update for xp, that is not the issue. I have also tried turning off firewalls, no dice. I have scoured google for this issue, and do not see any resolutions. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

• Smart card authentication to a Cisco switch?

  We have our Cisco network devices configured to authenticate network administrators using their domain accounts via RADIUS running on a Windows 2008R2 server with the network protection role. This works great for logging into the switch via SSH when configuring the devices. We are now in the beginning stages of deploying smart cards for logins. Does anyone know of a way to login to a Cisco switch using a smart card instead of a domain username and password? The SSH client we are using is Putty. Workstations are Windows 7. RADIUS is running on Windows 2008R2. We are running our own certificate authority on Windows 2008; network is not connected to the Internet. We prefer to not have to purchase additional proprietary devices for this functionality.

• Is this a graphics card failure?

  I own an older 32-bit Dell XPS 410 that I intended to use for gaming. Currently, I have a ATI Radeon 4000 series card installed, along with a Core 2 Duo and Ubuntu 12.10. I'm fairly certain that my problem is a GPU failure - but before I spend money on a new one, I want to make sure other components aren't the problem/if it would be cheaper just to buy a new PC. Here are my symptoms: Computer power button remains orange (usually green when successfully started.) A fan gets increasingly faster until powered off. Monitor remains black when started, receiving no signal. When powered on, the computer will power itself off near instantly, and then turn on again. If startup is successful, sometimes the screen will become jittered and unusable unless restarted. Is this just a GPU failure, or something more extensive like the motherboard?

• Acer Aspire 3820TG video card driver issue for Windows 8 Pro

  The model for Acer laptop is ATI mobility Radeon 5650. I am using Windows 8 Pro from MSDN. It was working fine until two days ago when Microsoft pushes an update. After the update, my video card stops working and I only see black screen after loading splash screen. I can go in Safe Mode. I tried to install driver from AMD website but it failed with error message "load detection driver failed". Anyone else have the same issue? Any idea how to solve this? I need to go in Win8 for my latest development.

• Using a sky card in Media Center

  I'm not 100% is this SU suitable but oh well. I'm wondering if it's possible to get a slot of some kind to put my Sky Card into a Media Center PC and then be able to have a triple or dual tuner, and connect to the satelitte dish, allowing me to record 3 and watch a previously recorded. Also it would mean access to Youtube and things easily, with only one box. Also would this be legal or is it similar to Apple where you can only use Mac OSX on boxes with the Apple Logo on?

Windows VISTA informs me -- after 5 minutes of attempts - that setting up the connection -- with my adhoc network -- took too much time. My question: do I need to configure some settings on Vista to connect it to my Macbook? Maybe it is a problem with DHCP? • Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000 Scroll Not Working

  I have a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000 with Intellipiont 7.1 installed on Windows 7 x64. The scroll has stopped working before, but a restart or two always seemed to resolve it. I tested the mouse on another computer and it worked. I also tested an Microsoft Arc mouse on this computer and the scroll worked. I have checked everything I could find on google and nothing helps. I have reinstalled intellipoint two times. Tried to change my mouse to another model in the intellipoint settings as suggested in many forums. Nothing. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Otherwise, I think my next step is to pitch this mouse and get a logitech at Best Buy tomorrow.

• Connecting two pcs through cable, at the same time as wireless

  I've got 2 pcs setup with WLAN - however when I copy files between the machines it takes forever (obviously, since I run 801.11g). So I thought, why not just connect them directly with a cable (my wireless router is the other end of the house, that's why I don't use cables to that) However how should I configure the LAN connection on each machine, so I can use it for transferring files between them, whilst using my WLAN to access the Internet ? I was thinking about letting one machine be gateway, but then Windows pops up with a lot of warnings (basically it says this won't work when you're using two disjoint networks) And now I'm at a loss as to what to try.

• Windows XP Home Edition SP3 cant recognise PCMIA SD Card

  System Specifications: Laptop : Dell Inspiron 6000 OS: Windows Home Edition SP3 SD Adapter: Hagiwara Smart Media Adapter I inserted the card into the slot, windows xp recognises the device, lists the pcmia controller on the device manager list, an entry appears under the IDE ATA/ATAPI category on the device manager as well. However, the device does not show under my computer and the driver does not get assigned a letter number. I checked the system logs from the device manager and there were no logged errors. Checking the Hagiwara support website, the manufacturer indicates that the adapter driver is the same as the windows xp pcmia controller. Checking Dell's website, no specific drivers were listed for that either. General Search on the web indicates that multiple people face similar problems with their SD cards, yet none actually spell out the route issue that causes this. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for further debugging. Thanks in advance

• Reliable Linux RAID Card

  Can anyone recommend an appropriate RAID card for use under Linux (Ubuntu)? I have three Western Digital SATA drives, and would like to setup either RAID-1 or RAID-5. Software RAID has been very flakey and unreliable for me (e.g. it doesn't seem to mirror the boot partition). Unfortunately, most RAID cards I've seen online don't mention any Linux driver support. Would most cards work in Linux, or do I have to look at a select few that explicitly support Linux?

• Can't connect Alienware M11x wireless to internet thru families router

  Morning All, Have an Alienware M11x loaded with Win 7 Premium with the Dell half card wifi. Also have a Netgear and Belkin USB external adapters (b/g and N to include dual radios. No joy either. Families Internet is served thru Charter and they use a Motorola Router. No matter if we reset the router, I cannot connect to the Net but can talk to the router. BTW... my brother only uses WEP as a number of connected items are old and my folks are not in a high threat area for attacks. Frustrated, as I know what I'm doing but this really has me stumped. Any thoughts? Much appreciated, Jim

• Is it possible to change the default scan folder on an Eye-Fi Wireless SD Card

  By default Eye-Fi cards scan the DCIM folder (and subfolders) used by most digital cameras for new images to upload. Is there a way of changing this to a different folder? In my particular case I'm using a Kodak photo scanner (P461) that uses a PHOTO(N) folder format to store the scanned images, as far as I know the device has no configuration interface to alter this setting so that doesn't seem to be an option. This topic on the Eye-Fi forums is the closest I've come to a solution, but a perfunctory investigation of Disk Probe doesn't make it obvious what needs to be modified on the card.

• Restarted computer, now wireless and Visual Studio is broken

  I installed the new update for TortoiseSVN which requires a restart. Upon restarting a lot of things broke. I'm currently running a virus scan, but what would cause this? Among the things that no longer work is Visual Studio. It now says "Invalid License Data. A reinstall is required" and my wireless internet does not work. When I go to connect to my network it will say "Can not connect" and then when I diagnose the problem it says "The connection to accesspoint-name was cancelled" (and yes, canceled is misspelt like that) What could have caused this? My computer did not install any updates or anything like that upon restarting and it was running fine before I restarted it.

• Speeding up Connection Between Computer and Wireless/Bridged Router

  Hey everyone, I looked through other questions, but didn't find useful responses. Our main computer has a dl speed of 6 Mbps, but some of our other computers are getting only 40-200 Kb! The router is wireless, but all computers are connected using a Netgear Wall-Plugged Bridge XE102, which transmits information via the building's powerline. It can't be the hardware itself, however, because some computers still manage decent speeds. The computers afflicted are running on Microsoft XP Service Packs 2 and 3, but so are computers that are totally functional. These speeds severely impede on productivity and are excruciatingly frustrating when trying to cram in time in the early hours. Could it be an issue with the computer? Location? Router?   I have a Nvidia GT 120 graphics card. It has a VGA, DVI and DMI output. Can I have 3 monitors with this? One for each port. Also if not, can I use DVI and HDMI and have 2 monitors. I know I can do 2 with the VGA and DVI but I am wondering about DVI and HDMI. Also my last question is, if I can have 2 monitors with the DVI and HDMI, can I use a HDMI to DVI cable and still have the same success?

• Windows VPN not authenticating from ADSL to Wireless link

  I have a normal windows VPN on a computer connecting to a 196.201.x.x/24 IP. If this VPN tries to connect from any address in the 41.x.x.x range it cant get there. The server is a normal windows 2008 server, running exchange with a PPPoE IP natted to a public IP on the public gateway of the wireless network as the server is on site and its connectivity is derived from Mikrotik RB's. The computer on the 41 range can traceroute and ping the server, but the VPN does not authenticate. When on the network or any other, the VPN works fine. Is there something that could be configured on the VPN client? All firewall settings of a standard ADSL router have been checked and found to block only ICMP's. Is this a VPN configuration problem or a network issue?

  I have just upgraded from a Sapphire AMD 6670 2gb Graphics card to a Nvidia GTX 650 ti 2gb SSC and my Windows Experiance index has gone from 6.8 to 7.7 but when playing games i am seeing no improvements i cannot play saints row three on even the lowest settings but according to many people and benchmarks on the web i should be able to play it comfortably. I want to know why this is happening to me..... I have installed the latest drivers and i have direct 10 + 11 installed I am 15 and it's my birthday today as i got it as a present but its not doing what i want also in am using a dvi cable not hdmi because i need a new one and its in the post. • Sharing wireless internet connection between 2 Ubuntu 10.04 systems using cross-over cable

On the Lenovo: eth0 connection has IPv4 Settings 'Shared to other computers' I can ping the Dell (10.42.43.10) successfully I can use mtr to trace to www.google.com successfully On the Dell: eth0 connection has IPv4 Settings 'Automatic DHCP' I can ping the Lenovo (10.42.43.1) successfully when I use mtr to trace to www.google.com, I can only reach 10.42.43.1 I must be missing some setting, but cannot see what it is; can anyone help me?

  It seems that recently I have to turn off and then turn on my router every time I want to connect my laptop(s) to the internet. This is what's happens: When I want to connect to the internet on my laptop, the network icon in the system tray states that I am connected to the wireless network but there's no "internet connectivity" I turn off the router and turn it back on and then I can connect to the internet. • Notebook with NVIDIA Optimus not switching video card in games

  I have a Samsung RC720 notebook with Intel Integrated Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M. As you can see it has two video adapters and Optimus is supposed to switch between them. But when I choose dedicated GPU in NVIDIA Control Panel and try to run, for example, GTA IV, it uses integrated graphics and I get very poor performance. I have already installed last NVIDIA and notebook drivers, chose high-performance in NVIDIA Control Panel, tried to execute with "Run with graphics processor..." context option and so on.   I have a wireless printer which is always on, and an always on fanless linux server. Looking at the mprinter project on Kickstarter I started to wonder if there is an app somewhere in the internet already that will allow to prepare an automated daily printout based on some settings. things to be printed could include - weather forecast for my locations, todo`s scheduled for that day, a "quote of a day" or "word of the day", stats from google analytics for my site, and many more ... I would set a printout at 6:15 every work day so its on my printer when I am already up, having a coffee. anyone knows something that can be used for such purpose? While I know this can be done by combining the power of TeX, cron and a script language to manage the dynamic part of the PDF I believe this is a use case someone has already addressed.
