• Best way of implementing DropDownList in ASP.NET MVC 2?

  I am trying to understand the best way of implementing a DropDownList in ASP.NET MVC 2 using the DropDownListFor helper. This is a multi-part question. First, what is the best way to pass the list data to the view? Pass the list in your model with a SelectList property that contains the data Pass the list in via ViewData How do I get a blank value in the DropDownList? Should I build it into the SelectList when I am creating it or is there some other means to tell the helper to auto create an empty value? Lastly, if for some reason there is a server side error and I need to redisplay the screen with the DropDownList, do I need to fetch the list values again to pass into the view model? This data is not maintained between posts (at least not when I pass it via my view model) so I was going to just fetch it again (it's cached). Am I going about this correctly?

• jquery ui autocomplete is changing my listbox

  I am trying to change my comboboxes to use autocomplete so i leverage the code listed here (which worked perfectly for my dropdowns) The issue is that i also on the same page have a listbox with the following code: <%= Html.ListBox("Cars", Model.BodyParts.Select( x => new SelectListItem { Text = x.Name, Value = x.Id, Selected = Model.CarsSelected.Any(y => y.Id == x.Id) } ))%> and it appears that the jquery ui code is changing this to a autocomplete dropdown as well (as opposed to keeping it as a multi select list box) any idea how to prevent this from happening?

• Strange jboss console error

  Hello everyone, I'm creating additional module to already multi-module maven project. And for this one I want everything to be like in other modules(meaning dependencies) just to test hello world, then I'll go do some more complex stuff. And it does print hello world as it should when deployed onto jboss server, but I get some strange error on console, had anyone had similar experience? and how can I fix it? • Delphi 2010 Datasnap - Design Query

  I am investigating moving a thick client SQL based Delphi application to Multi Tier thin clients, and have been looking at using Datasnap in Delphi 2010. I have worked through the White Paper written by Bob Swart and extended this further. My main question really is that I want to make the server side efficient in terms of connections and SQL Queries due to multiple queries being run and remaining open at the same time to interrogate data, can anyone point me in a direction for guidance on how to design a real world Datasnap Server application, as the demo's don't go into enough detail. • Why would HTTP transfer via wget be faster than lftp/pget?

  I'm building software that needs to do massive amounts of file transfer via both HTTP and FTP. Often times, I get faster HTTP download with a multi-connection download accelerator like axel or lftp with pget. In some cases, I've seen 2x-3x faster file transfer using something like: axel http://example.com/somefile or lftp -e 'pget -n 5 http://example.com/somefile;quit' vs. just using wget: wget http://example.com/somefile But other times, wget is significantly faster than lftp. Strangly, this is even true even when I do lftp with get, like so: lftp -e 'pget -n 1 http://example.com/somefile;quit' I understand that downloading a file via multiple connections won't always result in a speedup, depending on how bandwidth is constrained. But: why would it be slower? Especially when calling lftp/pget with -n 1?

Help me trace the source of the problem? in fact, WHY is my code even REACHING that particular region? • Failed to create feature receiver object from assembly/FileNotFound...

  During solution deployments & Feature activation, I am facing an on/off issue where the system is unable to find & load the FeatureReceiver class. Mostly it is file not found exception (even though the assembly is there in the GAC). I checked over the net and this seems it a common issue with solutions (wsp) packaging DLL to be GACed. (But, no one has any clue or solution!) What is the recommendation and guideline to fix this issue? We are setting the flag to reset IIS in my solution definition - but that does not seem to help. The issue is more prevalent in multi-M farms. Thanks

• BroadCast Messages to multiple client on the same machine

  I need to have a server on one machine that broadcasts a message sever second or so, Kind of like a service discovery. The message needs to be received by multiple client processes that could be on the same machine or different machines. Im using delphi7, with indy 9.0.18 where im stuck is if i should be using UDP or IP MultiCast or if its even possible... Ive managed to get it to work with IP Multi Cast with one client per machine, but even after many trys with different bindings.. max/min ports etc, i cant seem to find a solution.

• jQuery trigger uploadify click event not working in firefox FF

  I want to select an option on a drop down box and for this to trigger the uploadify available to jQuery which lets you upload a file. My solution works in IE7 but not FF. When you change the drop down it should show a window to browse for a file to upload. In FF nothing appears. In IE everything works. • Python (Twisted) - reading from fifo and sending read data to multiple protocols

  Hi, Im trying to write some kind of multi protocol bot (jabber/irc) that would read messages from fifo file (one liners mostly) and then send them to irc channel and jabber contacts. So far, I managed to create two factories to connect to jabber and irc, and they seem to be working. However, I've problem with reading the fifo file - I have no idea how to read it in a loop (open file, read line, close file, jump to open file and so on) outside of reactor loop to get the data I need to send, and then get that data to reactor loop for sending in both protocols. I've been looking for information on how to do it in best way, but Im totally lost in the dark. Any suggestion/help would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  I am BATTLING to get the selected values (please note VALUES not TEXT) from a Winforms Listbox that has multi-select enabled and has been bound to a database table getting the Name (as DisplayMember) and ID (as ValueMember) - I need the ID of the selected items. The listbox control has properties for SelectedValue to get one of the selected items values, but not for all selected items values. The SelectedItems property returns a Listbox.SelectedObjectCollection from which I cannot seem to extract the VALUES of the items. Please help! Thanks.

  Is there a way to perform a vertical centering of a variable-sized multi-line content within a fixed-size div, with hidden overflow? The aim would be to reproduce what you can see in Excel cells: when the content fits the container, it should be vertically centered, when it is larger, the parts that overflow should be hidden (and the content still vertically aligned), like in an Excel cell whose neighbours aren't empty. I know how to vertically center using CSS, I know how to hide overflow when the content isn't vertically centered, but I've no idea how to do both at the same time... Is Javascript the only answer? The trick is that CSS positioning approaches don't work with variable-sized content (my content is dynamic text), and when you use display:table-cell, it effectively disables CSS overflow control (and the container grows to accomodate the content).

  Imagine a UserControl containing some sort of ItemsControl. The UserControl as a whole has a DataContext, but you also need to expose the ItemsSource of the ItemsControl. I have tried all manner of arrangements, and eventually passed a DomainDataSource as a UserControl dependency property named DDS, and bound the ItemsControl like this: ItemsSource="{Binding DDS.Data, ElementName=userControl}" It works, but this is mucky, and with Silverlight mucky is nearly always a sign of incorrect approach. Your advice is sought. It looks like multi-bindings might be the answer to this.

• libcurl .NET does not want to work on Win64

  I wrote multi-threaded FTP uploader on C#.NET using libcurl.NET. Everything works fine on my machine, but when I give application (exe + libcurl.dll + 2 libcurl C# binding DLLs) to my friend who is running Win64, application crashes. After adding exception catcher to whole Main() function, I was able to get readable error message: "An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format (Exception from HRESULT = 0x8007000b)" After googling for a while, I found an advice to enable unmanaged code in my project settings. I've recompiled my application and LibCurlNet.dll with this flag set but it did not help. What can cause such problem?

  I know implementing database is a huge topic, but I want to have a basic understanding of how database systems work (e.g. memory management, binary tree, transaction, sql parsing, multi-threading, partitions, etc) by investigating the source code of the database. Since there are a few already proven very robust open source databases like mysql, sqlite and so on. However, the code are very complicated and I have no clue where to start. Also I find that the old school database textbooks are only explaining the theory, not the implementation details.   Using the VS 2008 GDR update, I have created a database project. I have created a SQL Server deployment package. I have created a database unit test. Using some wizards, the stuff got into my tfsbuild.proj file so near the end of the automated build process a database is created. I lack a little control of the whole process, I now see. What I would like to do is manually deploy the DB, run 3 custom scripts against the DB, and then manually start the DB unit test. I have other non-DB unit tests that already run. I do not want to use VSMDI or ordered unit test stuff because in out multi-developer environment it gets messy. Help!

  We have a situation where our application needs to process a series of files and rather than perform this function synchronously, we would like to employ multi-threading to have the workload split amongst different threads. Each item of work is: 1. Open a file for read only 2. Process the data in the file 3. Write the processed data to a Dictionary We would like to perform each file's work on a new thread? Is this possible and should be we better to use the ThreadPool or spawn new threads keeping in mind that each item of "work" only takes 30ms however its possible that hundreds of files will need to be processed. Any ideas to make this more efficient is appreciated.

• On MacOSX, in a C++ program, what guarantees can I have on file IO

  I am on MacOSX. I am writing a multi threaded program. One thread does logging. The non-logging threads may crash at any time. What conventions should I adopt in the logger / what guarantees can I have? I would prefer a solution where even if I crash during part of a write, previous writes still go to disk, and when reading back the log, I can figure out "ah, I wrote 100 complete enties, then I crashed on the 101th".
