• Eclipse: Double semi-colon on an import

  Using Eclipse, if I have an extra semicolon on an import line (not the last import line), I see a syntax error in the IDE. However, this compiles fine outside of the IDE (Maven in this case). Example: import java.util.ArrayList;; //notice extra semicolon import java.util.List; Does anyone else see this behavior? Why is this showing as a syntax error? I am working with someone who keeps pushing these this to source control and it is irritating me (they clearly aren't using Eclipse). Full disclosure... I am using SpringSource Tool Suite 2.8.0.

  I'm looking for a template engine. Requirements: Runs on a JVM. Java is good; Jython, JRuby and the like, too... Can be used outside of servlets (unlike JSP) Is flexible wrt. to where the templates are stored (JSP and a lot of people require the templates to be stored in the FS). It should provide a template loading interface which one can implement or something like that Easy inclusion of parameterized templates- I really like JSP's tag fragments Good docs, nice code, etc., the usual suspects I've looked at JSP- it's nearly perfect except for the servlet and filesystem coupling, Stringtemplate- I love the template syntax, but it fails on the filesystem coupling, the documentation is lacking and template groups and stuff are confusing, GXP, TAL, etc. Ideas, thoughts? • jQuery - Animation flicker using hover()

  I have a setup as described in this question which works perfectly. Essentially a drop down menu grows when you move your mouse over it to expose more options. There is, however, a small issue. If you move the mouse outside of the #dropdown div and then back in again quickly it constantly fires the mouseenter and mouseleave events causing a never ending cycle of flickering. How can I get around it? • Non US characters in section headers for a UITableView

  I have added a section list for a simple Core Data iPhone app. I followed this so question to create it - How to use the first character as a section name but my list also contain items starting with characters outside A-Z, specially Å,Ä and Ö used here in Sweden. The problem now is that when the table view shows the section list the three last characters are drawn wrong. See image below It seems like my best option right now is to let those items be sorted under 'Z' if ([letter isEqual:@"Å"] || [letter isEqual:@"Ä"] || [letter isEqual:@"Ö"]) letter = @"Z"; Someone that have figured this one out? And while I'm at it... 'Å', 'Ä' and 'Ö' should be sorted in that order but are sorted as 'Ä', 'Å' and 'Ö' by Core Data NSSortDescriptor. I have tried to set set the selector to localizedCaseInsensitiveCompare: but that gives a out of order section name 'Ä. Objects must be sorted by section name' error. Seen that too?

• How can I use javascript to convert relative href attributes into absolute paths?

  I have a template that gets screenscraped from an outside vendor and need to include absolute paths in the navigation so the externally hosted content will properly link back to our site. Right now the page/template is driven by a global menu app written by our back end development staff... so anyone who updates our site goes in and changes the menus and their paths... Right now all of the links are linking to relative paths back to the root. For example <a href="/">Home</a> <a href="/news/">News</a> <a href="/media/">Media</a> <a href="/other/">Other</a> I need a simple way (preferably with jquery) to prepend "http://www.domain.com" to each of those links.

• What is the best way to secure a shared git repo for a small distributed team ?

  We have a Scala project and we decided to use git. The problem is we are a very small distributed team and we want nobody outside of the team to have even the read only access to our git server (which has a valid IP and is world-accessible in the IP level). I have heard the git-daemon has no authentication mechanism by itself and you should somehow integrate it with ssh or something. What is the best (and easiest) way to make the git server respond only to authorized users ? Or perhaps git-daemon is not for this task ? I may add that I am looking for a simple and straightforward approach. I don't want to compete with github ;-)

• As a programmer what single discovery has given you the greatest boost in productivity?

  This question has been inspired by my recent discovery/adoption of distributed version control. I started using it (mercurial) just because I liked the idea of still being able to make commits at times when I couldn't connect to the central server. I never expected it would give me a large boost in general productivity, but a pleasant side effect I discovered was that making a new clone every time I started a new task and giving that clone a descriptive folder name is extremely effective at keeping me on task resulting is a noticeable productivity increase. So as a programmer what single discovery has given you the greatest boost in productivity? Extra respect for answers which involve tools or practices that aren't so obvious from the outside!

For example: http://www.example.com/results?search_type=search_videos&search_query=tpb&search_sort=relevance&search_category=25" When linking from outside, then having URLs differing only by sort parameters is obviously a bad idea: Google will not understand that these links point to the same item, i.e. that the item is popular.   Hi guys, I haven't coded in C++ in ages. And recently, I'm trying to work on something involving structs. Like this typedef struct{ int x; int y; } Point; Then in a loop, I'm trying to create new structs and put pointers to them them in a list. Point* p; int i, j; while (condition){ // compute values for i and j with some function... p = new Point; p* = {i, j}; //initialize my struct. list.append(p); //append this pointer to my list. } Now, my question is it possible to simplify this? I mean, the pointer variable *p outside of the loop and calling p = new Point inside the loop. Isn't there a better/nicer syntax for this?

• ivar is inside two blocks

  I have an ivar like this declared on interface: BOOL controllerOK; I have to use this ivar inside a block that resides itself in a block. Something like myBlockl = ^(){ [self presentViewController:controller animated:YES completion:^(){ if (controllerOK) [self doStuff]; }]; }; If I try to do that, I see an error capturing self strongly in this block is likely to lead to a retain cycle for the if (controllerOK) line. This does not appear to be one of those blocks problems that you create another variable using __unsafe_unretained before the block starts. First because this instruction cannot be used with a BOOL and second because the ivar controllerOK has to be tested on runtime inside the block. Another problem is that the block itself is declared on the interface, so it will be used outside the context where it is being created. How do I solve that?

  Looks like I did not understand memory management in Objective C... sigh.   How do YOU debug a Scala program? I mean YOU as in the person posting the Answer :) Please answer only from personal experience, not from stuff you've heard or read on the Internet. You should not believe everything you read on the Internet, especially tales of complex open-source software configurations that actually work :-) The are many Java tools which claim to support Scala in some way or another, but I have so far struck out in trying to get any one of them to actually let me set a breakpoint in Scala code and step through it. These are big, major open-source IDEs I'm talking about here. The main problem in getting a debugger to work seems to be the "version hell" with fast-changing IDEs, Plug-Ins, JDKs, and the Scala language itself. Hence, the more detailed re-statement of the question is appropriate: What is the exact version number of the IDE, Plug-In, JDK, Scala, and even Operating System, that you are successfully using? • Can you detect if and excel find and replace is active during worksheet_change()?

  Hi I've just crashed excel using amazon spreadsheet to update feed. When doing find and replace [replace all] with 2 cells selected after the first replacement the worksheet_change() function finished with the whole spreadsheet selected. This meant that the replacements took place outside of the original area. Unfortunatly the replcement text included the find text and each replacement re-selected the entire area excel ran until it ran out of space then crashed. Pressing control-break brings up the vba dialog STOP/CONTINUE/DEBUG. DEBUG is greyed out as amazon had protected the sheet. STOP would stop one run but would then continue to crash. CONTINUE would switch back to the current change and continue to crash. Is there any way to detect if a find&replace operation is in action whilst executing excel vba? Regards John

• Dynamic allocated array is not freed

  I'm using the code above to dynamically allocate an array, do some work inside the function, return an element of the array and free the memory outside of the function. But when I try to deallocate the array it doesn't free the memory and I have a memory leak. The debugger pointed to the myArray variable shows me the error CXX0030. • How do I keep a count of undefined strings within a loop using PHP?

  I'm using a loop within a loop to try to generate keyword combinations and also find the ones that have been used the most. My outside loop just queries a list of keywords (lets use "chicago" as our first keyword, 3 records were found). The inside loop finds all the records in the "posts" table where keyword = "chicago". Within this loop, I need to generate strings based on info I found in the database. Which, would look something like "chicago bulls", "chicago bears", "chicago cubs" etc... I know how to do everything up until this point, but how do I temporary hold these generated strings and count how many times they have been found within the 3 records?

• Why use a do-end block in Lua?

  I keep trying to find answers for this but fail to do so. I wanted to know, what is the do-end block actually used for? It just says values are used when needed in my book so how could I use this? Do I use it to reduce the scope of local variables by placing a function in a do-end loop and place local variables outside of the function but inside this do-end block and the variables will be seen by the function? But then can the function still be called? Sorry for being very vague. I hope that makes sense. Maybe an illustrated example might be useful ^^

• Securing input of private / protected methods?

  Hello, normally, all sane developers are trying to secure input of all public methods (casting to proper types, validating, sanitizing etc.) My question is: are you in your code validating also parameters passed to protected / private methods? In my opinion it is not necessary, if you securize properly parameters of public methods and return values from outside (other classes, db, user input etc...). But I am constantly facing frameworks and apps (ie. prestashop to name one) where validation is often repeated in method call, in method body and once again for securize returned value - which, I think, is creating performace overhead and is also a sign of bad design.

  Hi all, Consider the following code (written with Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4.0) using System; namespace DumpTester { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { int test = new Random().Next(); Console.WriteLine(test + new Random().Next()); Test(); } private static void Test() { throw new Exception(); } } } When running outside of Visual Studio you get this nice window of Microsoft Windows 7 that it is looking for a solution. Obviously, since this is my app, there is none. At that point I create a full dump file of my application with for example Process Explorer. I then open that dmp file from its location and try to debug. But whatever I try, it can't find the location of the source symbols. I tried putting the pdb next to the dump but it just doesn't find it. What am I doing wrong?

  Hi, I have tomcat running on 8080 on a ubuntu lucid server. I am able to access it fro local machine. However I am unable to access the tomcat from any machine outside. Is it due to firewall restrictions. WHat do I need to do to enable accessing tomcat from remote machines. Tried adding this rule to iptables but it did not solve iptables --table nat --append PREROUTING --protocol tcp --destination-port 80 \ --in-interface eth0 --jump REDIRECT --to-port 8080 Any help would be appreciated Thanks Bala Thiruppanambakkam

• Connecting two DialogBoxes in GWT

  In my GWT project, I'm trying to get it so two DialogBoxes can pass information between each other. One of them holds a MapWidget, and when a button is pressed in the other DialogBox, the position information is received from that other DialogBox's MapWidget. Does anyone have any tips for how I should coordinate between having two different DialogBoxes show up? Should I wrap the code for the two in a Composite? Furthermore, is there an example anywhere of dealing with two DialogBoxes at once in GWT? For example, if I click outside of the two boxes, both should be dismissed. I'm wondering if there's a way to keep both of them in focus at once, so I can switch between the two without causing either to disappear.
