• Can I find out the number of searches on a given keyword, per state?

  I know that Google tells you how many times a certain keyword is used in a search. You can use the Google Keyword Tool for that. This tool also allows you to find out the number of "local" searches: this is the number of times a person from a given country searches for this keyword. My questions: can you also find out how many searches originate from a given American state ? In the Keyword Tool, I can only select countries, not states. Any other systems I can use to determine where people are searching for a given keyword?

• IIS cache control header settings

  I'm currently working on a website that is accessed over https. We have recently come across a problem where we are unable to view .pdf files or any other type of file that is sent as an attachment (Content-Disposition:attachment). According to Microsoft Knowledge Base this is due to the fact that Cache-Control is set to no-cache. However, we have a requirement that all pages be fully reloaded every time they are visited, so we have disabled caching on all pages (through our ASP code, not through IIS settings). However, I have made a special case of this one page that shows the attachment, and it now returns a header with Cache-Control:private and the expiry set to 1 minute in the future. This works fine when I test it on my local machine, using https. However, when I deploy it to our test server and try it, the response headers still return Cache-Control:no-cache. There is no firewall or anything between me and the server, so IIS itself must be adding these headers and replacing mine. I have no idea why it would do this, and it doesn't really make any sense, but it seems to be the only option at the moment (I haven't yet found any other place in the code that will change the cache headers). Can anyone point me to a possible place where IIS might be setting these header values?

Well guys, I just want to know how encryption works with websites if we are using PHP+MYSQL? Is it ok to use user login ---- (PHP) encrypt inputted value then (PHP) will decrypt and validate it going to (MySQL) user login ---- (PHP) encrypt inputted value and decrypt the (MySQL) data if they are similar... Is it similar if we use $_SESSION without encryption inside PHP going to MySQL?or PHP encryption also helps the manipulation of binaries?..I'm so confused T_T... In regards to what I stated above, can a hacker hook the data if the server uses $_SESSION? Is $_SESSION safe?... IF THE HACKER CAN HOOK it? is it necessary to use SSL on our website? and why do some Merchandise websites use SSL and likewise facebook also uses SSL? what is the best suit for you if there is no SSL? encrypting the DATA using PHP going to MySQL or even without encryption while the PHP server uses $_SESSION?...

  I'm managing a video blog. The blog contains a main youtube video on the homepage and several thumbnail images of other videos elsewhere. I have a share button for the main page and the single posts pages and have added opengraph to specify the used image. • Make my website dynamically loaded data available to Facebook Open Graph Object Scrapper

  Here is the design of my web site: The user enter myWebsite.com/a/1 .htaccess rules redirect to myWebsite.com/b Now the JavaScript ExtJS library is loading. Extracting the value from the URL (in this case it is “1”) Loading ./xml/1.xml From 1.xml setting the Open Graph data (Title, type, image, etc) Loading data that will be shown to the user from 1.xml into the website. My question is: How can I make the Open Graph data available to Facebook? Facebook do not to load my ExtJS JavaScript Library before extracting the Open Graph Object values from the HTML. Is there an easy solution to this problem? The only solutions I found is to make statics web pages or dynamically pages rendered on the server side but I would like to avoid these since my web page implementation is already finished and I would like to avoid re working on it.

I want a user to be able to type the URL mysite.com/about instead of mysite.com/about.html On .htaccess file I have: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ /$1.html [NC,L] But this simply does not work? I will add though that if i try this further inside the site e.g. mysite.com/pages/contact Works perfectly whether I have the above code in the .htaccess or not What am I doing wrong?

• Proper way to create and work with a subdomain?

  My site got effected by Panda, and I am trying to see if making a subdomain would work. The site is comehike.com, and I created a subdomain which is currently empty at hiking.comehike.com I have a directory /outdoors that has some high quality hand-written articles. I want to put those into the new subdomain to see what would happen. My questions are: Should I just copy and paste the files for those pages into the new subdomain's folder, and just change all the links in all my pages from the original domain to the new subdomain? Should I just do a 301 redirect to the new subdomain? Since test.site.com and www.site.com are different domains, will the new page have to start from scratch in terms of Pagerank, and its rankings in the SERPs?

  Ok this is somenthing unbelievable, we have a website, users sign up and receives links to confirm they signed up BUT: 1 - microsoft blocked our IP (no one with microsoft email account can receive our emails) 2 - we tryed contacting microsoft submitting the detailed form about our problem 3 - we posted 3 times in their community about our problem 4 - we tweeted they about our problem 5 - we tryed finding out some telephone support number (the few there are arent' helping at all) Do you think we solved? the answer is NO :/ We still unable to send emails from our IP to microsoft email accounts, since 3 months back. Our emails are perfect we checked all the email headers following microsoft guidelines but it seems not enought, checking our IP reputation it seems everythings ok, indeed we can send email easly to any other provider , gmail, yahoo, etc Do you know any other way to try to get help ? • Is SimplePHPBlog a secure blogging engine?

  Has anyone used the blog engine SimplePHPBlog? It is a simple blog engine that uses only text files (no database). My problem with it is that the content directory where the texts files are stored appears to require being world writeable/readable (i.e. permission 777) for it to work. This means anyone can access the text files with a browser! These text files include the blog/comment poster's IP and email address! This is not secure or good practice, right?

• Prevent mail flagged as spam when switching mail servers (new SPF records)?

  For our business, we send out a significant amount of newsletter alerts to customers that sign up for it on our website. We used to send this mail directly from our web server via PHP. But because the web server limited us to the number of emails we could send per day, we purchased a VM server at a different host (that doesn't throttle email) and we are going to use that account solely for sending out the emails. Anyways, now that the SPF records are going to be different from what they used to be and the source mail server is different, what steps need to be taken to prevent these emails being flagged as spam? I know in Gmail, it's pretty smart about determining if the person actually sending the email is sending it from the server it expects (for flagging Phishing emails, etc). We don't want that to happen to our emails. Just sending a couple test emails out, Gmail's shows the SPF record saying: Authentication-Results: mx.google.com; spf=neutral (google.com: XXX.XXX.23.176 is neither permitted nor denied by best guess record for domain of [email protected]) [email protected] So is there anything we need to do with regards to SPF records as we move forward?

• Broken Links in different browsers

  Hi I'm having problems with our website, http://www.accessiblehomehealthcare.com, which is a wordpress 2.7 (version). All of a sudden our RSS links broke on the right side, which has happened before and I fixed it within 5 mins. Now, when I fix it, it doesn't look right in different version of I.E. or Firefox, I have I.E. 8 and Firefox 3.6.15 and it looks good for the most part, but there are a few parts where the links are broken. One browser the links would look ok but go to another page and the links or logos would be broken. Certain parts of the website should be static(identical) to the other pages of the site, but if a link is broken on one page, its perfect on another page. I was wondering was there a secret code for wordpress to keep the sites compatible with all browser versions or is there a bigger issue???? Any help or suggestions will help???

  I just installed kloxo on my vps and I want to link my domain to that server...which it sort of already is...I made it connect to it via an A record. That works, like the IP is pointing to my server but how do I make a website using it. I tried adding the domain but this doesn't work ...I feel i'm not explaining this well um, on my server it asked me to create DNS template so I did I created the nameservers ns1.mydomain.com, ns2.mydomain.com Then I added the domain to the panel mydomain.com I go to the folder it creates to it, but no matter the file there it wont work...any ideas? Is there a way to possibly just not even add a domain to kloxo and just kind of treat the ip of the server as the domain? Since the A record points there anyway? I don't intend to host another website on the server anyway...

• Is it possible to know impressions of other websites?

  Google Webmasters's dashboard gives you a big number which is called impressions, and by definition that I've seen in Google Analytics, it means the total number of times your site has been become eligible for SERPs. I just don't have an idea how to invest on this number, and how much its increase or decrease mean to me, because I can't compare it with other websites. I mean, if the impressions of say site a.com is 150,000, and mine is 50,000, then maybe I can confer that I need to triple my efforts to reach to a.com. But by seeing 50,000 alone I have no clue at all of how to interpret it. Is there any service or other way to know about the impressions Google gives to other sites?

• Best S.E.O. practice for backlinking etc

  I'm currently working on a website that I am really looking to optimise in terms of search engines, i've been submitting between 5-20 directory submissions daily, i've validated and optimised my code and i've joined a lot of forums etc to speak of the website in question, however, I don't seem to be making much of an impact in terms of Google. I know that S.E.O. takes a while to start making an impact, and that Google prefers sites that a regularly updated and aged, but are there any more practices that can really help with organic results in Search engines. I have looked on Google itself, and a few other SE's but nobody is willing to talk about extensive S.E.O. practices as they normally don't want people knowing their formula's for S.E.O., also does anyone know of a decent piece of software that really looks into the in's and out's of your page and provides feedback, I usually use http://www.woorank.com, but only using one program doesn't show if it's exactly correct in what it's saying. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated, thank you very much.

• What will be the impact on SEO if we remove our SSL certificate (url become http instead of https)?

  For some weird reason, our domain's content is returned for any https request set to any of our server's hosted domain names. https://domain.com leads to our website, with a proper SSL certificate (so, no warning). https://domain2.com, also hosted on our server but without SSL certificate, leads to a warning, and if accepted, to our website's content! The problem is that any search for our keywords in Google shows "fake websites" on top of ours, with the warning et al. It seems unsolvable so we are thinking about switching back ton nonsecure http . I'm just afraid of losing whatever indexing we have. How can i avoid that? Thanks, a.

• How to Export Email "Sent" Folder?

  A client had her web site and email hosted at "company A". She was switching to "company B" but didn't want to lose her email. I set up a Gmail account, POPed into her webmail account, and pulled the entire inbox into Gmail (for later transfer to her new host). But I forgot about the "sent" folder. Although the hosting plan is still up and running, she changed her domain record to point to the new host. So I can't access the old webmail account via POP or IMAP because the email address needed for authentication now resolves to the new host. Is there any way I can get the contents of the sent folder without having to do a "forward" one message at a time (there are hundreds)?

• Paypal PDT and IPN , how does it work?

  PDT Payment Data Transfer is getting the transaction data of the purchase that was made on paypal site and you want to fetch that on your own site and display to the user. Also you may want to store it in your database for archive and tracking purposes. But I cannot exactly follow the documentation here What I am not getting is Once you have activated PDT, every time a buyer makes a website payment and is redirected to your return URL, a transaction token will be passed along as a "GET" variable to this return URL. In order to properly use PDT and display transaction details to your customer, you should fetch the transaction token, variable name "tx", and retreive transaction details from PayPal by constructing an HTTP POST to PayPal. Your POST should be sent to https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr. You must post the transaction token using the variable "tx" and the value of the transaction token previously received (e.g. "tx=transaction_token"), and the special identity token using the variable at and the value of your PDT identity token (e.g. "at=identity_token"). You will also need to append a variable named "cmd" with the value "_notify-synch", for example "cmd=_notify-synch", to the POST string. IPN I have setup Instant Payment Notification through setting according to this documentation. This is basically logging into your paypal account and enable IPN while specifying a url where the notification will be sent. This is used to complete an order so that the product can be shipped. What I did is setup a PHP page. I have created a table and whenever that page is called (or hit), it registers an entry in the table so I know a notification came from Paypal. But it does not work either. What am I really doing wrong? The first thing I want to trouble shoot though is when the buyer pays the amount, he is automatically redirected to my site. I have enabled this but automatic redirection just does not work. Instead he is shown the url as an option after payment confirmation is shown. Can someone guide my how the PDT process goes? Where do I make the request for PDT, is it along the very first request (Buy Now button) or it is sent later? • How to verify real people?

  For a music community, I want bands to be able to verify themselves. What is the best way to do this? For example I could let the record label mail me, but some bands are indepedent. I could also ask them to put a 'code' on their website or Facebook page and then check manually. I'm not per se looking for a waterproof solution, so no scanning of real life documents and I'm okay with doing the checks manually. In other words, how can you verify real people with their virtual presence?

• Filtering content from response body HTML (mod_security or other WAFs)

  We have Apache on Linux with mod_security as the Web App Firewall (WAF) layer. To prevent content injections, we have some rules that basically disable a page containing some text patterns from showing up at all. For example, if an HTML page on webserver has slur words (because some webmaster may have copied/pasted text without proofreading) the Apache server throws a 406 error. Our requirement now is a little different: we would like to show the page as regular 200, but if such a pattern is matched, we want to strip out the offending content. Not block the entire page. If we had a server side technology we could easily code for this, but sadly this is for a website with 1000s of static html pages. Another solution might have been to do a cronjob of find/replace strings and run them on folders en-masse, maybe, but we don't have access to the file system in this case (different department). We do have control over WAF or Apache rules if any. Any pointers or creative ideas?

• Reset / Remove - Google Keywords

  Summary: My site is ranking for filthy keywords and i would like to remove them from google ranking/keywords. Background: My server was hacked using the timthumb exploit/security vulnerability, apparently i was the last person on earth to read the news about the exploit, several months after it appeared. Anyway, the "hacker" was so friendly to modify the index.php file in such a fashion, that it generated random sexual oriented keywords if the website is fetched as google-bot. So if you would fetch it as google bot/it gets indexed, you would get randomly generated keywords like: sex videos teenager teen sex adult sex preteen A LINK TO A RANDOM CONTENT OF MY WEBPAGE anime sex videos a rough list something similar to that, about 180-200 per page. I've discovered it far too late, so that google had me indexed for the words "sex" and certain adult oriented keywords, about roughly 2000. I've removed all the content, toke the site down, replaced the index.php with a static HTML and added a "ERROR 410" title to the website so that the content is no longer here and removed permanently. I've also applied for a manual review of my website, about 1.5 months ago but still, the keywords are there, and very strange, some of the keyword rankings actually "improve" over time. Here are some screenshots from webmasters tools: Question: How can i remove this filthy keywords and re-rank my website as a "normal" website on the fastest way? I want to "REMOVE" the keywords if possible. Please help me or point me into a direction. Thank you

• CloudFlare DNS: Downtime failover host

  My company uses CloudFlare for its DNS, but as our site is HTTPS-secured and we're on the free plan, we can't utilize CloudFlare's CDN services. Our host has fairly rare but not insignificant downtime. We can't migrate servers just yet, and I'd like to be able to either have the main domain redirect to the status domain, or simply resolve to the alternative status host in the event of downtime so users will stop bugging me asking if the site is down. Is this possible to do automatically using the free CloudFlare plan, or will I have to manually edit my DNS every time the site goes down?

  Hello, I'm working on WampServer for development, I've set up the domain tuniguide.local and it works fine with this configuration: DocumentRoot "D:\www\tuniguide" ServerName tuniguide.local But when I wanted to add a subdomain fr.tuniguide.local I get a 404 Not Found with this configuration: DocumentRoot "D:\www\tuniguide\fr" ServerName fr.tuniguide.local It gives me this message: The requested URL /www/tuniguide/index.php was not found on this server.
