• What's the best way to create a Windows Mobile application with multiple screens in C#

  I am creating a Windows Mobile Application in C# and Visual Studio 2008. The application will have 5-6 main 'screens'. There will also be bar (/area) with information (e.g. a title, whether the app is busy, etc) above the screens, and a toolbar (or similar control) below the screens with 5-6 buttons (with images) to change the active screen (i.e. the screens will share the top bar and toolbar) What is the best way to implement this? Use multiple forms, and just include the toolbar and top-bar in each Use a single form and something like the Tab control (but customised) to contain the screens Something else? Keeping in mind a) memory usage and b) time to switch screens. Thanks in advance. Any links, pointers etc are much appreciated.

  I have a custom control which extends from TextBox. In the KeyDown event of the control I have access to the KeyCode property of keyEventArgs If the text in the textbox is selected and some other text is typed on top of it, the keyCodes that I am getting in the KeyDown event are different each time and in the KeyPress event I get the actual value. For ex: If the textbox has value 1234 and now I select 1234 and type 5 on top of it, I want to to be able to know in any of the events by some key combination that the old value 1234 is gone and the new value of the textbox is 5.

• How to stop a ICMP attack?

  We are under a heavy icmp flood attack. Tcpdump shows the result below. Altough we have blocked ICMP with iptables tcpdump still prints icmp packets. I've also attached iptables configuration and "top" result. Is there any thing I can do to completely stop icmp packets? • Navigate between screens in WPF

  This should be a very basic design question, but for some reason it doesn't seem to be well documented (maybe due to its simplicity?). If I'm building a dashboard application in WPF that brig up different CRM tasks and I want to navigate between screens, is this the best way to do this, or is there a better way? • jquery question - addclass to element depending on active image in rotating banner

  I have a banner that rotates a series of three images. The active one has a display:block, while the inactive have display:none. I'm trying to match the class for the active image with an tag so that I can add an "active" class to the a tag. Having some trouble writing that function. It's adding all of the classes for each of the img elements, regardless of whether they're being displayed or not... • location.hash in an iframe scrolls the parent window

  Hi all. I have a page with an iframe. Inside the iframe is code (that I can't change) that sets location.hash to the id of an element in the iframe window. This has the unwanted effect of scrolling my outermost browser window so that the top of the window touches the top of the iframe. This is quite annoying as I have a toolbar above the iframe that is vital to my app. Is there any way of preventing the setting of location.hash affecting the scroll position of the main window? Will preventDefault help me out here? Thanks!

  I have been developing a toy editor, and I want my editor to look like the VS2010 text editor which can be dragged out of the main window to become a independent window and the dragged-out window can be maximized when it's dragged to the top of the screen, and can be docked by being dragged to the left or right side of the screen(which is a new feature in Win7). So I tried to use AvalonDock(a codeplex project) to do that.But I found the dragged-out DocumentContent(a class in AvalonDock,it inherits from ContentControl) is not treated like a real window in Win7. So I wanna know that What kind of window can be docked by being dragged to the left/right side or the top of the screen in Win7? Thanks!!

  This is a simple question How do you remove the space between the content of a combobox and the border of it. E.g. If the selection of a combobox is "Selection 1" then the "S" is drawn at the very top left of the ComboBox control with no whitespace spacing between it and top left portion of the control. I did this <ComboBox Padding="0"/> Even this: <ComboBox.ItemContainerStyle> <Style TargetType="ComboBoxItem"> <Setter Property="Padding" Value="0"/> </Style> </ComboBox.ItemContainerStyle> The specified ComboBox above is within a ListView GridViewColumn. Maybe that's messing with something. This doesn't remove the padding. Any ideas?

• DIV Overlaying DIV, links in backmost DIV non-accessible

  I have a photoshop image that is 500x600 that I am using as a background image for the first div. The second div sits over top of the first div and is populated with images. The z-index of the first div is set to 100. The effect is the photoshop image sits over top of all of the smaller images. The photoshop image is a letter with the inner-content of it set to be transparent and the small images create the filling. Each of the small images however is a link, but none of the links are accessible. How can I remedy that? I would post the code here, but I have absolutely no clue how to format it. I quite simply do not understand typing a backtick followed by the tab key and then a dollar sign. All that ends up is I type a backtick here followed by a dollar sign in the Tags section below.

  I'm trying to create a ggplot2 plot with the legend beneath the plot. The ggplot2 book says on p 112 "The position and justification of legends are controlled by the theme setting legend.position, and the value can be right, left, top, bottom, none (no legend), or a numeric position". The following code works (since "right" it is the default), and it also works with "none" as the legend position, but "left", "top", "bottom", all fail with "Error in grid.Call.graphics("L_setviewport", pvp, TRUE) : Non-finite location and/or size for viewport" library(ggplot2) (myDat <- data.frame(cbind(VarX=10:1, VarY=runif(10)), Descrip=sample(LETTERS[1:3], 10, replace=TRUE))) qplot(VarX,VarY, data=myDat, shape=Descrip) + opts(legend.position="right") What am I doing wrong? • Using IVMRWindowlessControl to display video in a Winforms Control and allow for full screen toggle

  I've recently switched from using the IVideoWindow interface to IVMRWindowlessControl in my custom Winforms control to display video. The reason for this was to allow zoom capabilities on the video within the control. However in switching over, I've found that the FullScreen mode from IVideoWindow is not available and I am currently trying to replicate this using the SetVideoWindow() method. I'm finding that I size the video in my control to be at the same resolution as the screen however I can't get the control to position itself to the top/left of the screen and become the top most window. Any ideas on how to achieve this since the IVideoWindow::put_FullScreenMode just did it all for you?

• Get the UIWindow which is under the UIActionSheet

  I am trying to present a new UIViewController on top of the current current UIViewController. Here is the line of code that creates the desired effect: LoginViewController *loginViewController = [[LoginViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"LoginViewController" bundle:nil]; UIViewController *rootController = [[[UIApplication sharedApplication] keyWindow] rootViewController]; [rootController presentViewController:loginViewController animated:YES completion:nil]; The problem is that I added an UIActionSheet which asks the user to confirm the desired action (which is to log out). When the user confirms the action I run the above mentioned peace of code, but the UIActionSheet is still the keyWindow. Therefore the LoginViewController is not presented on top (the rootController is null when I try to debug). My question is: Can I somehow find the UIWindow which is under the UIActionSheet and from there get the root controller,or maybe I can dismiss programmatically the UIActionSheet when the users selects the log out action and only then execute the above code?   I have a table full of Dealers along with their latitude and longitude. I am trying to determine the top n closest dealers to any given lat and lon. I already have the function to calculate distance between locations, but I want to do as few calculations as possible (my table can contain many thousands of entries). Currently I have to calculate the distance for each entry then sort them. Is there any way to sort before I do the calculation to improve performance? This question is good, but I will not always know my range. Should I just pick an arbitrarily high range then refine my results? • iPhone Orientation Relayout From Single Column to Double Column

  I am trying to create a UIView in Interface Builder that shows to the user two boxes containing some text. This UIView should support both landscape and portrait modes. When in portrait orientation, the two boxes should be centered horizontally and be under each other. Like in the picture below: But when in landscape orientation, it should show the two boxes centered vertically and by side by side. Like in the picture below: Is this possible using only the autosizing options (or any other IB options), or do I have to relayout the view in code on orientation change events? I would prefer using only IB. I tried locking the top and left margins of the top box and locking the bottom and right margins of the bottom box. But the problem is that for it to work I also need to shrink the two boxes as one changes from portrait to landscape, because otherwise they would overlap.

• Fast block placement algorithm, advice needed?

  I need to emulate the window placement strategy of the Fluxbox window manager. As a rough guide, visualize randomly sized windows filling up the screen one at a time, where the rough size of each results in an average of 80 windows on screen without any window overlapping another. It is important to note that windows will close and the space that closed windows previously occupied becomes available once more for the placement of new windows. The window placement strategy has three binary options: Windows build horizontal rows or vertical columns (potentially) Windows are placed from left to right or right to left Windows are placed from top to bottom or bottom to top Why is the algorithm a problem? It needs to operate to the deadlines of a real time thread in an audio application. At this moment I am only concerned with getting a fast algorithm, don't concern yourself over the implications of real time threads and all the hurdles in programming that that brings. So far I have two choices which I have built loose prototypes for: 1) A port of the Fluxbox placement algorithm into my code. The problem with this is, the client (my program) gets kicked out of the audio server (JACK) when I try placing the worst case scenario of 256 blocks using the algorithm. This algorithm performs over 14000 full (linear) scans of the list of blocks already placed when placing the 256th window. 2) My alternative approach. Only partially implemented, this approach uses a data structure for each area of rectangular free unused space (the list of windows can be entirely separate, and is not required for testing of this algorithm). The data structure acts as a node in a doubly linked list (with sorted insertion), as well as containing the coordinates of the top-left corner, and the width and height. Furthermore, each block data structure also contains four links which connect to each immediately adjacent (touching) block on each of the four sides. IMPORTANT RULE: Each block may only touch with one block per side. The problem with this approach is, it's very complex. I have implemented the straightforward cases where 1) space is removed from one corner of a block, 2) splitting neighbouring blocks so that the IMPORTANT RULE is adhered to. The less straightforward case, where the space to be removed can only be found within a column or row of boxes, is only partially implemented - if one of the blocks to be removed is an exact fit for width (ie column) or height (ie row) then problems occur. And don't even mention the fact this only checks columns one box wide, and rows one box tall. I've implemented this algorithm in C - the language I am using for this project (I've not used C++ for a few years and am uncomfortable using it after having focused all my attention to C development, it's a hobby). The implementation is 700+ lines of code (including plenty of blank lines, brace lines, comments etc). The implementation only works for the horizontal-rows + left-right + top-bottom placement strategy. So I've either got to add some way of making this +700 lines of code work for the other 7 placement strategy options, or I'm going to have to duplicate those +700 lines of code for the other seven options. Neither of these is attractive, the first, because the existing code is complex enough, the second, because of bloat. The algorithm is not even at a stage where I can use it in the real time worst case scenario, because of missing functionality, so I still don't know if it actually performs better or worse than the first approach. What else is there? I've skimmed over and discounted: Bin Packing algorithms: their emphasis on optimal fit does not match the requirements of this algorithm. Recursive Bisection Placement algorithms: sounds promising, but these are for circuit design. Their emphasis is optimal wire length. Both of these, especially the latter, all elements to be placed/packs are known before the algorithm begins. I need an algorithm which works accumulatively with what it is given to do when it is told to do it. What are your thoughts on this? How would you approach it? What other algorithms should I look at? Or even what concepts should I research seeing as I've not studied computer science/software engineering? Please ask questions in comments if further information is needed. [edit] If it makes any difference, the units for the coordinates will not be pixels. The units are unimportant, but the grid where windows/blocks/whatever can be placed will be 127 x 127 units.

• Scale background image to wrap content of layout

I'd like the background image to scale to wrap the content (don't care about aspect ratio). However, the image is larger than content, so the layout instead wraps the background image. Scale a Drawable or background image? Based on this, I created a FrameLayout w/ an ImageView showing the background. Unfortunately, I still can't get it to work. I want the height of the background image to shrink/expand w/ the size of the text views, but with the FrameLayout, the ImageView fits to the size of it's parent, and I can't find a way to make the parent fit to the size the text view layout. I have an object that needs to make a REST call to an external app (google maps) as a pre-save condition, and this can fail, which means I need my users to correct the data in the form. Why didn't this work? How am I supposed to add errors to the top of a form after it's been cleaned?

• remove notification bar shadow in android app

  In android, the notification bar at the top has a shadow most of the time. However, sometimes, such as when an app has it's title-bar showing, or in some other cases (such as in the twitter app or the market) that shadow effect is gone. My guess is that the shadow is supposed to be there when the content underneath can scroll. In my app, however, the content underneath can't scroll, and I think the shadow looks bad on the top part of my logo. Does anyone know how to disable it?
