• Release another user's lock obtained with sp_getapplock on SQL Server

  We have a system that uses sp_getapplock to create an exclusive mutex any time someone opens an order in the GUI. This is used to prevent multiple people from making changes to an order simultaneously. Sometimes people will open an order and go home, leaving it open. This effectively blocks anyone from being able to make changes to the order. I then get emails, calls and end up doing a kill <spid> in enterprise manager. Obviously I've gotten sick of this and want to make a quick self-service webform. The main problem I've run into is that kill requires sysadmin privileges, which I do not want to give to the user that the our website runs as. I have tried sp_releaseapplock but this doesn't let you release another user's lock (even when calling it as a sysadmin). So, finally my question; does anyone know of an alternative method to release a lock that was obtained by another user using sp_getapplock?

What is the standard way of handling user authentication in .NET in the following situation? 1.In Process A, User inputs ID/Password 2.Process A sends the ID/Password to Process B over a nonsecure public channel. 3.Process B authenticates the user with the recieved ID/Password what are some of the standard cryptographic algorithms I can use in above model? The users(customers that bought my company's software) will be running the software(Process A) locally in their computer(connected to internet). I'm completely new to SP development, so I haven't quite found the various API docs, so I'm hoping someone can help get me started. • Get user-inputed file name from JFileChooser Save dialog box

  This answer to this question may seem obvious, but I'm actually struggling with it quite a bit. I've searched through JFileChooser methods in the API, and I've looked at some of the questions already asked and answered here on stackoverflow. My question is this. In my program, I am to allow the user to type in a file name which I will then use to create a brand new file that I will write on. How do you get the text the user has entered in the textfield next to the label "Save As:" on the Save dialog box provided by JFileChooser? Is there a JFileChooser method that would allow me to get that user-inputed text? Or would I have to go through another class, or do something else to get that text? Thank you so much, to anyone who answers. It's very late for me now, and this program is due in a few hours (meaning I'll be having another sleepless night). Desperate may be too strong a word, but I'm something close enough.

  I have created one user named "tuser" with create database rights in SQL server 2005. and given the 'db_owner' database role of master and msdb database to "tuser". From this user login when I run the script for create database then it will create new database. But "tuser" don't have access that newly created database generated from script. Any one have any idea?, I want to write the script so "tuser" have access that new created database after creation and can have add user permission of newly created database. I want to give 'db_owner' database roles to "tuser" on that newly created database in the same script which create new database. The script run under 'tuser'.

• How to crawl retweets of a certain user?

  I studied the Twitter API Documentation today. Only find that we could use "Twitter REST API Method: statuses user_timeline" to acquire statuses of a certain user. Retweets are stripped out of the user_timeline for backwards compatibility reasons. If I want retweets included, API Documentation recommend "statuses retweeted_by_me", but retweeted_by_me cannot return the retweets by other users. I think maybe we can analyse the twitter webpage of a certain user to get his retweets. However is there any elegant way to crawl retweets of a certain user? Thanks in advance!

  Hi All, I am newbie in Drupal 6. I am looking for customizing User registration form. Apparently found that while adding user using Admin login allows registration form to have fields like email address, username, password,confirm password, etc with validations. But when anonymous use wants to register, then only fields like email address and username are displayed. I tried with Profile module available. But now how could I add some fields (password, confirm password, terms & condition check and receive news letter check box)and behavior (password, confirm password validation etc.)? If I am adding such fields they are also get visible in AdminAdd user form resulting duplicate fields like Password,Confirm password. Could you please suggest me how can I do this? I was wondering how I could check multiple groups to see if the user belongs to either, if they belong to either. I don't know if user_ingroup($username,$group,$recursive=NULL); can handle search two different groups for the user, need help coding it to search for the user in two different groups, and as soon as it finds it in one of those, break the operation and set a variable to true. • ASP.NET: How to initialize when *user control* is initially loaded

  I have an ASP.NET user control that I'm embedding in another user control. This works fine. I need to know the best logic/method for detecting when the control is loaded. In other words, I have some display initialization logic that needs to run when the control is initially displayed. Surely there is a pattern for this. The typical method is to put (!IsPostBack) logic in the Page_Load method of the control. This works great until you end up with a state when the Parent page has already posted back many times. My user control gets added to the page but its display does not intialize properly. I'm hoping to find a way that keeps this logic inside the control, versus various hacking around in the codebehind of the parent page.

  Hi, I would like to know if it is functionally wrong to page-fault a user-space address when kernel is running fault-handler to bring in a user-page. OS is Linux 2.6.30 Assume that both user-addresses are valid ( falling within vma , rw permission ) for the task. When I check the kernel code, i find that the kernel does not mind the nested fault if the faulted-addresses are valid and the fault did not occur in atomic-context or in irq handler. (I dont think the answer is cpu-specific, but I would add that i am interested in arm and mips ). eg : The scenario can happen if I print stack-data from page-fault handler. thanks shankar

  So I know that there is a very similar question to this all over the web as well as stack overflow: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2539961/error-access-denied-for-user-mysql-server but my question I think is different. So I have set up a linked server and it works...I have the correct permissions set up for my IP's that I am using. However the problem arises when our user "webuser@correctIP" tries to access it. Therefore, any user using window authentication is allowed to access it and works great...but any that are not using windows authentication are blocked. However, I have tried all the common solutions such as setting up a strict password, changing security settings in Microsoft SQL Server etc. Nothing is working. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. FYI: I am using this from Microsoft SQL Server 2008 - mysql (through myphpadmin)

  I am trying to upgrade my iPhone app to use the new facebook graph api. One thing I cannot find is how to find out if the current user connected from my app to facebook is a fan of my facebook page - (i.e. in the new paradigm - whether the user likes my page) In the Rest Api there was a function isFan, but not in the Graph. I can get all items the user likes and search whether one of them is my page, but certainly there must be an easier way instead of going trough thousands of records each time I must check whether he is a fan, right? If someone already figured it out how to do that from their new docs, I'll really appreciate if you share it with me.

  Greetings all, Is there a built in way to know when a user is done typing into a textbox? (Before hitting tab, Or moving the mouse) I have a database query that occurs on the textchanged event and everything works perfectly. However, I noticed that there is a bit of lag of course because if a user is quickly typing into the textbox the program is busy doing a query for each character. So what I was hoping for was a way to see if the user has finished typing. So if they type "a" and stop then an event fires. However, if they type "all the way" the event fires after the y keyup. I have some ideas floating around my head but I'm sure they aren't the most efficient. Like measuring the time since the last textchange event and if it was than a certain value then it would proceed to run the rest of my procedures. let me know what you think.   I've switched in teamcity from using basic authentication to using NTLM, on an existing installation. This works fine, except that the admin user didn't have a corresponding NT account, and so doesn't work on the NTLM configuration. (It is easy to roll back, so it is not a stress). My question is - what is the command to set a user to admin manually - ie modifying the database? (like this: TeamCity forgotten admin password - where to look?) but changing the role of a user to global system administrator.

  I have a table "users" and I want to enable my visitors to login with their openID Account. For this I use the OpenId Component for Cakephp and it works fine (When I login with the Google URL I receive the "successfully authenticated!" notification). But now I'm kind of stuck because I don't know how to go on from there. Do I have to create a User-Entry for every user which has a new entry in the "oid_associations" table (I save all OpenId interaction in the mysql database)? Do I have to authenticate the User after the login (or is the OpenID-component doing that automatically?). Am I completely misunderstanding the concept?

• How to inject a "runtime" dependency like a logged in user which is not available at application boot time?

  I'm just not getting this: I use Gin in my java GWT app to do DI. The login screen is integrated into the full application window. After the user has logged in I want to inject the user object into other classes like GUI Presenters which I create, so I have some sort of runtime dependency I believe. How do i do that? One solution I can think of is sth like: class Presenter { @Inject Presenter(LoggedInUserFactory userFactory) { User user = userFactory.getLoggedInUser(); } } class LoggedInUserFactoryImpl { public static User user; User getLoggedInUser() { return user; } } So, when the user is successfully logged in and I have the object i set the static property in LoggedInUserFactory, but this will only work if the Presenter is created after the user has logged in which is not the case. Or should I use a global static registry? I just don't like the idea of having static dependencies in my classes. Any input is greatly appreciated.

  I have to build a pretty complex application using Backbone Marionette. The user interface has to handle multiple users with different roles. For example the 'admin' user will see the complete menu whereas the 'guest' user will access a subset of the same menu. Moreover some views will be accessible to all the users but the functions inside them (add, edit, delete) need to be profiled on the different roles. I am not sure about the right approach to use in order to solve this issue. I could have different templates for the different roles but in this case plenty of code will be duplicated inside them.
