  • Could I get secure proxy server service free? [closed]

    It comes to my mind that when I use any proxy server, the information will be submit to the proxy server including the username/password of any website I login. This way I risk my identity. I've heard that there are some secure proxy server but can I found any with reasonable price, probably free? ( By the way, VPN is also considered but they are expensive for personal usage ). Even if I can find such service, how can I know that they won't exploit my information?

  • On Linux, why does directory tab completion add a \ to a path starting with ~

    On my work scientific linux 6.2 machine, I often start typing in a directory like below and use tab completion to finish it: ~/mydir But when I hit tab, it becomes e.g. \~/mydirectory/ With an extra forward slash at the start. Why is this, and can I prevent it? It's a pain because using cd etc. doesn't work with the extra slash, I have to start from the actual home directory which is something like /home/username/ On these PCs.

    I've never observed this problem neither did any of my colleagues trying to SSH into the same system. If I try logging into my server using a wrong username and then press ^C to terminate or exhaust my password attempts, I am locked out for at least an hour. Is there something I can do on my end to fix this problem?

  • 404 Error on a file that exists?

    Hello all, A script makes a GET request to my URL like so: http://mydomain.com/cgi-bin/uu_ini_status_audios.pl?tmp_sid=b742be1d131c4d32237a9f1fcdca659e&rnd_id=0.2363453360320319 However, I get a 404 returned straight away: The requested URL /cgi-bin/uu_ini_status_audios.pl was not found on this server. But that script exists on my server, I can see the file! It has the correct permissions (I gave it a 777 to be sure). It is also owned by my apache user and its in the group apache. What am I missing?? Thanks for any help on this! Update I thought it would have been a htaccess (rewrite) but I don't think it is anymore. I tried putting a index.php file in there and try to access it via my URL but I can't even do that! I tried this: http://mydoamin.com/cgi-bin/index.php - same 404 error!     I have a webserver running a number of websites. When I ssh in, it gives me a tab name of [email protected], which is counterintuitive, making it seem like those tabs are on my localhost. I would like to change the hostname, but I want to be sure that it won't break anything else. So for what purposes does that hostname string get used, and how can I be sure that it won't affect any functioning systems?

    I have a friend on the same network as me hosting a virtual machine using vmware server.The guest OS is Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003.He granted me administrative priveleges for the machine but when i try to add a user to that VM it says access denied. Moreover when i try to start the VM remotely using the command vmrun -T server -h https://computer-name.domain.com:8333/sdk -u domain/user -p passwd start "[standard] Win2k3Client1/Win2k3Client1.vmx" This shows unsufficient priveleges on host operating system but i am able to login with same username password on VMWare Web Access

    In order to install gentoo, I need to connect to a university wireless internet network. It requires a username and password login/authentication. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice in terms of how to configure the internet connection. The Gentoo installation documentation recommends the use of net-setup, pppoe, pptp, dhcp and iwconfig. I can't figure out how to configure this connection, as the only way I understand is to select the network from a list and enter in authentication data from within a browser.

    I'm mounting a windows share as follows: sudo mount -t cifs //192.168.178.49/public -o users,username=name,dom=domain,password=pword /mnt/nas Then I'm trying to create a simple file with some basic text: touch /mnt/nas/me.txt And get an error, however, the file is created (contains 0B of data though): touch: cannot touch ‘me.txt’: Permission denied With sudo it works flawless. How can I allow my current user to write data to the share? Is there a mount option?

    Is there a way to set windows 2008 file and folder sharing permission so you only get prompted for a password on certain shares? That is, right now, when I got to \theserver\ I get prompted for a password despite having some shared folders that permit anonymous access. Is there a way, asides from setting the policy sharing model to guest rather than Classic to allow a user from a non-domain pc to go to \theserver\ and see the shares and permit him or her to enter a folder with anonymous access without having to enter a username or password?

If I go to server:81/ nothing is being asked regardless whether connecting from local or another machine on the network. Why is that? Am I doing something wrong?

  • Computer name not appearing on network

    I can connect to other computers on my home network (ubuntu + OSX machines) using the IP address, but I can't connect using the netbios name. On the mac the name appears in Finder but if I try to connect (goconnect to server smb://[email protected]) it doesn't work, while smb://[email protected] does. Same with ssh, ping and afp between the macs. This is a intermittent problem. It has worked in the past.
