  Hi all! I hava a simple question. I have a server running which take actions according to parameters in the url. Example: if I type in browser: http://localhost:8081/Edit?action=renameModule&newName=Module2 This works correctly. I would like to know the equivalent jquery ajax method to perform the same thing I have tried $.ajax({ url: 'http://localhost:8081/Edit', type: 'GET', data:'action=renameModule&newName=Module2 }); It is not working.   So, I'd like to implement my own custom authorization system in MVC2. If I'd have to create a global class, where do I instantiate it? Can HttpContext be extended with my own additions and where do I do that? Should I use Authorization filters for rights validation or ActionFilters or do it within an action? Can ActionFilter pass any data to the action itself? Previously (in WebForms) I was using a Session object where I would put a serialized object containing essential user data (account id and a list of roles and rights) and I'd extend my own Page class.

• ASP.Net MVC 404 errors when route contains an .svc extension

  I have an ASP.Net MVC 2 site set up under IIS7 using the integrated pipeline with the following route: routes.MapRoute( "MyRoute", "mycontroller/{name}/{*path}", new { controller = "MyController", action = "Index", path = UrlParameter.Optional } ); There are no other routes above this route, but whenever I try and access the above route with a path value that has an .svc extension, for example: http://localhost/MyVirtualDirectory/mycontroller/test/somepath.svc ASP.Net returns a 404 error without executing my controller (I have a log message call at the start of the action method). If I change the extension to something benign (like .txt) it works perfectly, so seems that somewhere along the line ASP.Net is interpreting the request as a standard ASP.Net call to a web service that doesn't exist - this is definitely an ASP.Net 404 response (not an IIS response). What could be causing this, and how do I stop it from happening?

• Model Binding an IList of selected items only

  I have an action method setup: public ActionResult Delete(IList<Product> products) And a table of products in my view. I have got Model Binding working so that on submit I can populate the products list. But I would like to populate it with only the products that are selected via a checkbox. I think I could do it by changing the action method to this: public ActionResult Delete(IList<Product> products, IList<int> toDelete) And passing the list of check boxes to the toDelete but I would really like to avoid changing the method signature if possible. Is there a way to pass only the selected items? Or am I going to have to write a custom ModelBinder?

• How return 304 status with FileResult in ASP.NET MVC RC1

  As you may know we have got a new ActionResult called FileResult in RC1 version of ASP.NET MVC. Using that, your action methods can return image to browser dynamically. Something like this: public ActionResult DisplayPhoto(int id) { Photo photo = GetPhotoFromDatabase(id); return File(photo.Content, photo.ContentType); } In the HTML code, we can use something like this: <img src="http://mysite.com/controller/DisplayPhoto/657"> Since the image is returned dynamically, we need a way to cache the returned stream so that we don't need to read the image again from database. I guess we can do it with something like this, I'm not sure: Response.StatusCode = 304; This tells the browser that you already have the image in your cache. I just don't know what to return in my action method after setting StatusCode to 304. Should I return null or something?

  this one in my routes works perfectly: map.connect ':permalink', :controller = 'pages', :action = 'show' for this class: class PagesController < BackendController and on /xxx/pages it is shown like this: <%= link_to "#{item.link_name}", {:controller = :pages, :action = :show, :permalink = item.permalink} % which will generate a link like "how-to-create-permalinks". but i decided to move the PagesController into a subdirectory so the class is now written like so: class Backend::PagesController < BackendController But how does the route look like now? And how do i display it on the template so it links using the permalink? Thanks!

I have created this function to handle all my form submissions. What am really looking at is the best approach to cache the the indexpublic script does get quite some hits and I would live to avoid the Zend MVC overhead if possible.

  I'm using asserts_redirected_to in my unit tests, and I'm receiving this warning: DEPRECATION WARNING: Using assert_redirected_to with partial hash arguments is deprecated. Specify the full set arguments instead. What is a partial hash argument, and what is a full set argument? These aren't terms that I've seen used in the Rails community before, and the only relevant results I can find on Google for these are in reference to this deprecation warning. • Do not compile t4 file

  Suddenly, after doing a TFS 2010 get, Visual Studio 2010 is attempting to compile my .tt file as if it was c#. Moreover, anytime I set it to "Build Action=None", Build Action gets mysteriously reset to Compile. This is breaking our builds on the desktop. I can get builds to work on the desktop by closing then reopening VS. Our builds on TFS are totally broken because of this. What to do? The template generates a (totally ok) c# file, so I need the project to build. I tried changing the file extension from .tt to .donotbuilddammit but that had no effect.

  I have built my own little custom XML-RPC server, and since I'd like to keep things simple, on both server and client side, what I would like to accomplish is to create a simplest possible client (in C# preferably) using WCF. Let's say that Contract for service exposed via XML-RPC is as follows: [ServiceContract] public interface IContract { [OperationContract(Action="Ping")] string Ping(); // server returns back string "Pong" [OperationContract(Action="Echo")] string Echo(string message); // server echoes back whatever message is } So, there are two example methods, one without any arguments, and another with simple string argument, both returning strings (just for sake of example). Service is exposed via http. Aaand, what's next? :) P.S. I have tried googling around for samples and similar, but all that I could come up with are some blog-related samples that use existing (and very big/numerous) classes, which implement appropriate IContract (or IBlogger) interfaces, so that most of what I am interested is hidden below several layers of abstraction...

  Hi, I would like to create little higer-level framework on top of Stuts2 which can take form element description from Action and render a complete form, in order to avoid having a separate JSP files with hardcoded form elements for every form in a large web application (so if I manage to do this I will have just a few generic JSPs for data form and few for layout). Application is extremely data-driven. My idea is to create form description using custom objects in the Action (i.e. Button, TextInput etc.) and then to create a single JSP page that will render eveything out. What is the best way of doing this? Can you propose some concrete way to do this? I don't want to write something if I can reuse the existing code with some effort. Any ideas are appreciated.   I wrote a base class to help build my controllers more quickly and to remove duplication. It provides some helper methods, default actions and some meta programming to make these things easier to build. One of those methods in the base class is like this: def dynamicList(Class clazz) { def model = new LinkedHashMap() model[getMapString(clazz) + "s"] = list(clazz) model[getMapString(clazz) + "sTotal"] = count(clazz) model } The action that calls it, also in the base class, is this: def list = { dynamicList(clazz) } Unfortunately, when I go to list action in the controller subclass that inherits the base class when my application is deployed, I get this exception: groovy.lang.MissingMethodException: No signature of method: groovy.lang.MissingMethodException.dynamicList() is applicable for argument types: (java.lang.Class) values: [class project .user.User] at project.user.UserController$_closure1.doCall(UserController.groovy:18) at project.user.UserController$_closure1.doCall(UserController.groovy) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) How can I hit grails over the head and just tell it do what I want it to do? • How can I fix this NavigationController and UIToolbar offset issue in Objective-C?

  I'm adding a couple of buttons to an already-existing NavigationController. The two buttons are added to a UIView, which is pushed onto the NavigationItem. The buttons stop and reload a UIWebView. Problem is that there's a slight offset issue that is making it all look pretty ugly. I wish I could set the UIToolbar to transparent or clear background but that doesn't seem to be an option. Can't seem to use negative offsets either. I've got color matching, but if you look closely there's 1px or 2px of highlighting up top that's causing a visual mismatch and then a slight offset at the bottom. Some relevant code below (based on this, inbound Googlers).
