• tail -f and then exit on matching string

  I am trying to configure a startup script which will startup tomcat, monitor the catalina.out for the string "Server startup", and then run another process. I have been trying various combinations of tail -f with grep and awk, but haven't got anything working yet. The main issue I am having seems to be with forcing the tail to die after grep or awk have matched the string. I have simplified to the following test case. test.sh is listed below: #!/bin/sh rm -f child.out ./child.sh > child.out & tail -f child.out | grep -q B child.sh is listed below: #!/bin/sh echo A sleep 20 echo B echo C sleep 40 echo D The behavior I am seeing is that grep exits after 20 seconds , however the tail will take a further 40 seconds to die. I understand why this is happening - tail will only notice that the pipe is gone when it writes to it which only happens when data gets appended to the file. This is compounded by the fact that tail is to be buffering the data and outputting the B and C characters as a single write (I confirmed this by strace). I have attempted to fix that with solutions I found elsewhere, such as using unbuffer command, but that didn't help. Anybody got any ideas for how to get this working how I expect it? Or ideas for waiting for successful Tomcat start (thinking about waiting for a TCP port to know it has started, but suspect that will become more complex that what I am trying to do now). I have managed to get it working with awk doing a "killall tail" on match, but I am not happy with that solution. Note I am trying to get this to work on RHEL4.

  Hey there, I'm running into an apache mod_rewrite configuration issue on one of our machines. Has anyone encountered / overcome anyone of these issues. URL1 ( http://www.uppereast.com ) is not being redirected to URL2 ( http://www.nyclocalliving.com ). This definitely worked in my test environment where a localhost address was rewritten to URL2 ( RewriteRule ^http://upe.localhost$ http://www.nyclocalliving.com ). I'm trying to get the all of the redirect rules working ( 2200 + ), but the 'http://www.nyclocalliving.com' site encounters a server error if I use more that 1000 or more rules. • How to create minidump of a .NET process when a certain first chance exception occurs.

  Dear ladies and sirs. My application throws InvalidCastException in the QA environment, something I cannot reproduce in development. I wish to obtain the minidump at the exception moment. I know about adplus, but I am not sure how to use it so that it creates the minidump when InvalidCastException is thrown. Apparently, it does not distinguish one .NET exception from another. May be I am wrong and there is a way. Or, there is another tool to do it. Preferably free one. Anyway, can anyone advice how to handle this issue? Thanks. UPDATE The build is a Debug build in both QA and dev. However, QA runs complex scenarios made possible in the lab, which devs cannot reproduce. Hence I need an ability to make dump when running in QA. I can modify the code and create minidump from code. However, I wish for a more flexible solution, the one not requiring to modify the code every time an issue like this occurs.

• Start a short video when an incoming call is detected, first case using the emulator.

  I want to be able to start a short video on an incoming phone call. The video will loop until the call is answered. I've loaded the video onto the emulator sdcard then created the appropriate level avd with a path to the sdcard.iso file on disk. Since I'm running on a Mac OS x snow leopard I am able to confirm the contents of the sdcard. All testing has be done on the Android emulator. In a separate project TestVideo I created an activity that just launches the video from the sdcard. That works as expected. Then I created another project TestIncoming that creates an activity that creates a PhoneStateListener that overrides the onCallStateChanged(int state, String incomingNumber) method. In the onCallStateChanged() method I check if state == TelephonyManager.CALL_STATE_RINGING. If true I create an Intent that starts the video. I'm actually using the code from the TestVideo project above. Here is the code snippet. PhoneStateListener callStateListener = new PhoneStateListener() { @Override public void onCallStateChanged(int state, String incomingNumber) { if(state == TelelphonyManager.CALL_STATE_RINGING) { Intent launchVideo = new Intent(MyActivity.this, LaunchVideo.class); startActivity(launchVideo); } } }; The PhoneStateListener is added to the TelephonyManager.listen() method like so, telephonyManager.listen(callStateListener, PhoneStateListener.LISTEN_CALL_STATE); Here is the part I'm unclear on, the manifest. • How do I set YUI2 paginator to select a page other than the first page?

  I have a YUI DataTable (YUI 2.8.0r4) with AJAX pagination. Each row in the table links to a details/editing page and I want to link from that details page back to the list page that includes the record from the details page. So I have to a) offset the AJAX data correctly and b) tell YAHOO.widget.Paginator which page to select. According to my reading of the YUI API docs, I have to pass in the initialPage configuration option. I've attempted this, but it doesn't take (the data from AJAX is correctly offset, but the paginator thinks I'm on page 1, so clicking "next" takes me from e.g. page 6 to page 2. What am I not doing (or doing wrong)?   Hi, I'm done some WinForms work in C# but now moving to have to develop a web application front end in .NET (C#). I have experience developing web apps in Ruby on Rails (& a little with Java with JSP pages & struts mvc). Should I jump straight to MVC framework? (as opposed to going ASP.net) That is from the point of view of future direction for Microsoft & as well ease in ramping up from myself. Or if you like, given my experience to date, what would the pros/cons for me re MVC versus ASP.net? thanks

• Cygwin won't start Gitk

  Hey I have followed this answer to solve problem with running GUI applications under Cygwin. So far it seems okay, but when I try to open gitk it will complain on that it cannot find any git repository here. I am standing in the correct folder though, and running git from console it works (I can push, pull, and so on) But gitk won't start as it say it is not any git repository here. Anyone know how to fix it? • Apache2 Segmentation fault with wsgi_module

  Apache 2.2.3 is running as an existing web server under RHEL 5. Attempting to set up Trac using wsgi_module. RHEL 5 ships with python 2.4, so in order to use the current version of Trac (1.0) I needed to install it with easy_install-2.6. Trac works with the default mod_python, however users strongly encourage not using this module as it is officially dead. Using RHEL's package manager, I downloaded/installed python26-mod_wsgi.so. I backed up the httpd.conf, then made the following additions: LoadModule wsgi_module modules/python26-mod_wsgi.so #...# WSGIScriptAlias /trac /www/virtualhosts/trac/deploy/cgi-bin/trac.wsgi <Directory /www/virtualhosts/trac/deploy/cgi-bin> WSGIApplicationGroup %{GLOBAL} Order deny,allow Allow from all </Directory> Next I moved trac.conf to trac.conf.bak (contains mod_python calls). I tested the configuration using: apachectl configtest Syntax is OK. So I reloaded the server config using: service httpd reload At this time, all virtualhosted sites stopped responding. I restored my backup copy of httpd.conf, reloaded the server config, and the virtualhosted sites are being served again. • Can you force PayPal Payments Standard API to show credit card fields first?

  I'm using PayPal Website Payments Standard. Whenever the user lands on PayPal with the variables I sent, it shows a PayPal Login form and at the bottom it shows "Don't have a PayPal account? Use your credit card or bank account (where available)." I want it to default to always ask for credit card and maybe say "Have PayPal? Use that!". Any ideas?

• Why do socket.makefile objects fail after the first read for UDP sockets?

  I'm using the socket.makefile method to create a file-like object on a UDP socket for the purposes of reading. When I receive a UDP packet, I can read the entire contents of the packet all at once by using the read method, but if I try to split it up into multiple reads, my program hangs. Here's a program which demonstrates this problem: import socket from sys import argv SERVER_ADDR = ("localhost", 12345) sock = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_DGRAM) sock.setsockopt(socket.SOL_SOCKET, socket.SO_REUSEADDR, 1) sock.bind(SERVER_ADDR) f = sock.makefile("rb") sock.sendto("HelloWorld", SERVER_ADDR) if "--all" in argv: print f.read(10) else: print f.read(5) print f.read(5) If I run the above program with the --all option, then it works perfectly and prints HelloWorld. If I run it without that option, it prints Hello and then hangs on the second read. I do not have this problem with socket.makefile objects when using TCP sockets. Why is this happening and what can I do to stop it?

• Why doesn't Maven's mvn clean ever work the first time?

  Nine times out of ten when I run mvn clean on my projects I experience a build error. I have to execute mvn clean multiple times until the build error goes away. Does anyone else experience this? Is there any way to fix this within Maven? If not, how do you get around it? I wrote a bat file that deletes the target folders and that works well, but it's not practical when you are working on multiple projects. I am using Maven 2.2.1. • Delphi Compiler Directive to Evaluate Arguments in Reverse

  I was really impressed with this delphi two liner using the IFThen function from Math.pas. However, it evaluates the DB.ReturnFieldI first, which is unfortunate because I need to call DB.first to get the first record. DB.RunQuery('select awesomedata1 from awesometable where awesometableid = "great"'); result := IfThen(DB.First = 0, DB.ReturnFieldI('awesomedata1')); Obviously this isn't such a big deal, as I could make it work with five robust liners. But all I need for this to work is for Delphi to evaluate DB.first first and DB.ReturnFieldI second. I don't want to change math.pas and I don't think this warrants me making a overloaded ifthen because there's like 16 ifthen functions. Just let me know what the compiler directive is, if there is an even better way to do this, or if there is no way to do this and anyone whose procedure is to call db.first and blindly retrieve the first thing he finds is not a real programmer.

  This is our scenario: Our DNS is hosted by a company. They don't manage the DNS. We use Zoneedit (www.zoneedit.com) to manage the DNS such as nameservers, CNAMEs, etc... Then we have our web host where we just have our files hosted. We have a subdomain created on zoneedit. We would like to do a URL rewrite so that subdomain.ourdomain.com is displayed as www.ourdomain.com/subdomain. Do I use Zoneedit to do the URL rewrite or the web host or the DNS host? I checked the Zoneedit docs but I could not find a way to do a URL rewrite. Need some advice. Thanks

  I am trying to get the OAuth gem to work with Rails 3 and I'm running into this weird problem... (independent of the gem, I think I've run into this once before) I have a controller called "OauthTestController", and a model called "ConsumerToken". The model looks like this. require 'oauth/models/consumers/token' class ConsumerToken < ActiveRecord::Base include Oauth::Models::Consumers::Token end When I go to "/oauth_test/twitter", it loads the Oauth::Models::Consumers::Token module and I'm able to connect to twitter no problem. But the second time I try it (just refresh the /oauth_test/twitter url), it gives me this error: NameError (uninitialized constant Oauth): app/models/consumer_token.rb:4 app/models/twitter_token.rb:2 app/controllers/oauth_test_controller.rb:66:in `load_consumer' Why is that? It has something to do with load paths or being in development mode maybe?

I have simplified to the following test case. test.sh is listed below: #!/bin/sh rm -f child.out ./child.sh > child.out & tail -f child.out | grep -q B child.sh is listed below: #!/bin/sh echo A sleep 20 echo B echo C sleep 40 echo D The behavior I am seeing is that grep exits after 20 seconds , however the tail will take a further 40 seconds to die. I understand why this is happening - tail will only notice that the pipe is gone when it writes to it which only happens when data gets appended to the file. This is compounded by the fact that tail is to be buffering the data and outputting the B and C characters as a single write (I confirmed this by strace). I have attempted to fix that with solutions I found elsewhere, such as using unbuffer command, but that didn't help. Anybody got any ideas for how to get this working how I expect it? Or ideas for waiting for successful Tomcat start (thinking about waiting for a TCP port to know it has started, but suspect that will become more complex that what I am trying to do now). I have managed to get it working with awk doing a "killall tail" on match, but I am not happy with that solution. Note I am trying to get this to work on RHEL4.

  I'm using Text.ParserCombinators.Parsec and Text.XHtml to parse an input and get a HTML output. If my input is: * First item, First level ** First item, Second level ** Second item, Second level * Second item, First level My output should be: <ul><li>First item, First level <ul><li>First item, Second level </li><li>Second item, Second level </li></ul></li><li>Second item, First level</li></ul> I wrote this, but obviously does not work recursively list= do{ s <- many1 item;return (olist << s) } item= do{ (count 1 (char '*')) ;s <- manyTill anyChar newline ;return ( li << s) } Any ideas? the recursion can be more than two levels Thanks!

  The problem is, that if a property is changed during an f:ajax request and a binded panelGroup should be newly created depending on that changed value, the old value is used. This code will explain the problem. This is due to the problem, that the "binded method" dynamicPanel is executed before the update of the first and last properties. how can workaround this behaviour or what is wrong with my code?
