• Any significance to Google's "expires" date being Fri, 01 Jan 1990 00:00:00 GMT?

  I was looking at the response headers for my GMail account and noticed that the date Fri, 01 Jan 1990 00:00:00 GMT shows up as the value for "Expires" over and over again. I suppose this is just an easy constant to make sure the browser understands this is past its freshness date. But is there any significance to that particular date? One might as easily have used the same date in 2000, or 1970, or whatever. It's not quirky enough to be someone's birthday or date of college graduation or anything personal like that. Maybe it's just arbitrary, but I was wondering if someone has a good explanation why that particular date was chosen.

I have read of someone running, production-wise, Google app engine development version on their own server. My questions are: Are there any security issues running GAE development on your own server in production mode and exposing it to the www? If so how to mitigate them? Can GAE dev be run on Amazon? Is it possible to port my GAE apps running on Google servers to a GAE running on Amazon, without code changes, but without changing any reference in using other gdata services such as google docs, youtube, gmail, etc. How to configure GAE dev server to use my own hadoop? Or to use Amazon's hadoop?

• What is the easiest way to get an embedded upload progress bar using Ruby/Sinatra/Haml/Passenger/ngi

  I have a website where people can upload 30+mb of data in a single block, and I want to be able to show them the progress of their upload without causing the web page to become unresponsive, similar to how flash uploads work in gmail. There's this question here, but I don't know if that progress bar is embedded in the page or if it's using the browser's progress bar. I'm also a bit of a web newb, so I'm not sure if it's the 'easiest'. I asked the swfupload guys how to do this here, and the answer I got is 'this tool requires some knowledge to use it' without giving me much help in figuring out where to get started. I also asked this question on ServerFault, and got no response, so maybe that was the wrong place to ask. I'm all for learning new things and so forth, but there are a lot of potential pathways to take here. Where should I start, and what do I need to know to make everything work with sinatra, haml, ruby, passenger, and nginx? Thanks!

• How to disable Center Key (CK) and let only Left Soft Key (LSK) be used in j2me

  Hello everyone, I created a custom item in which I need to use the Center Key for the purpose of selecting and I am successfully able to use it with the keyPressed event using the keyCode as -5. The problem is, as soon as I press the CK, it also clicks on the command above the LSK and that causes the menu to pop up. Is there any way that I can disable the CK for a particular command or something like that (because I dont need CK, since I can click on the command through LSK as well, I want to use the CK specifically for the custom item)? • TortoiseSVN 1.6.8 missing repository browser in Branch/Tag "To URL" dialog?

  It seems that in TortoiseSVN 1.6.8 (on Windows), when you click the "To URL..." button in the Branch/Tag dialog, it now pops up a generic "browse for folders" dialog. It used to pop up a Repository Browser. Displaying a regular folder browser isn't much use, since you can't navigate to any of the tags/branches via the file system. Does anyone know if this is a regression or a deliberate change? Any possible workarounds (other than reverting to 1.6.7, which works fine)? Notes: I am running a repository on the local file system, which may yield different results to one going across a network. I'm definitely using an FSFS repository, so changes to BDB access via file:/// shouldn't apply.   Hi, When an UITextField is firstResponder, I would like to bring to front an UIDatePicker (bottom part of the screen) without the "going down keyboard" (no call to UITextField resignFirstResponder). The aim is to process like UIKeyboard of UITextField which pop-up on nearly everything when it becomeFirstResponder. modalViewController seems to be fullscreen only. - showDatePicker:(id)sender { if([taskName isFirstResponder]) [taskName resignFirstResponder]; [self.view.window addSubview: self.pickerView]; // size up the picker view and compute the start/end frame origin (...) • Delphi overwrite existing file on save dialog

  Hello everyone, I am using the TSaveDialog component to save a file from a button click. However, I am having trouble with saving on an existing file name. Generally, when you want to save over an existing file in Windows, a message box pops up asking you if you really want to overwrite the file. This is not the case with the TSaveDialog component and it will go ahead and write over the file without asking. I was hoping there was a TSaveDialog function or event that I could use but I have not seen anything that looks like it handles this. So it could be that I simplely haven't found the correct method to use. If there is an event, I could use if FileExists(saveDialog.FileName) then //and so forth but the events TSaveDialog has are OnCanClose, OnClose, OnFolderChange, OnIncludeItem, OnSelectionChange, OnShow, OnTypeChange... My question is, how do I pop up a message box to ask the user if they want to overwrite the existing file using the TSaveDialog component. Thanks.

• UIAlertController handle dismiss upon click outside (IPad)

  Previous to iOS8 we used the UIActionSheet for showing alert and now we need to use the UIAlertController. When we used the UIActionSheet we could easily handle situations where the user clicked outside the pop up (which means he want to cancel the operation) by comparing the clickedButtonAtIndex to the cancelButtonIndex - if the user indeed pressed outside the popup we got the cancel button index in this function. How can we handle these situations with the new UIAlertController? I tried to use the "completion" block but it doesn't have any context. Is there an easy way to handle this? (other than "saving" the actions states in some general variable).

• How can i bundle other files when using cx_freeze?

  I'm using Python 2.6 and cx_Freeze 4.1.2 on a Windows system. I've created the setup.py to build my executable and everything works fine. When cx_Freeze runs it movies everything to the build directory. I have some other files that i would like included in my build directory. How can i do this? • How to start a process from within a windows service

  I want to pop a browser with a given url from within a windows service. Like so: System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("http://www.venganza.org/"); Works fine when running in a console but not from within the service. No error messages, no exceptions, the Process.Start() command just seem to do nothing. It smells of some security issue, maybe something with the service properties and/or logon options? Annoying stuff this... Anybody? (Oh, and on windows 7/.NET framework 3.5.)

• Comet implementation for ASP.NET?

  I've been looking at ways to implement gmail-like messaging inside a browser, and arrived at the Comet concept. However, I haven't been able to find a good .NET implementation that allows me to do this within IIS (our application is written in ASP.NET 2.0). The solutions I found (or could think of, for that matter) require leaving a running thread per user - so that it could return a response to him once he gets a message. This doesn't scale at all, of course. So my question is - do you know of an ASP.NET implementation for Comet that works in a different way? Is that even possible with IIS?

Is there a way to get the list delegates to 'pop out' of their cells? • Problem in getting Contact Info

  Hi, I m working on application in which i have to send all contacts from Android mobile to other mobile through SMS. I don't have any problem in getting contact information but when I send those Contacts after few messages there is Alert Window pop up saying "A large number of message have being send" and ask if you want to send or not. I am testing this application on HTC Hero. Is this problem is for specific mobiles or for all? I don't know what should i do to avoid this window because I cant get SMS Sent event. • Freezing a dual-mode (GUI and console) application using cx_Freeze

  Hi, I've developed a Python application that runs both in the GUI mode and the console mode. If any arguments are specified, it runs in a console mode else it runs in the GUI mode. I've managed to freeze this using cx_Freeze. I had some problems hiding the black console window that would pop up with wxPython and so I modified my setup.py script like this: import sys from cx_Freeze import setup, Executable base = None if sys.platform == "win32": base = "Win32GUI" setup( name = "simple_PyQt4", version = "0.1", description = "Sample cx_Freeze PyQt4 script", executables = [Executable("PyQt4app.py", base = base)]) This works fine but now when I try to open up my console and run the executable from there, it doesn't output anything. I don't get any errors or messages so it seems that cx_Feeze is redirecting the stdout somewhere else. Is is possible to get it to work with both mode? • iPhone UITableView trigger a parent method?

  Okay, so I'm working on an iPhone app with a preferences-esque section where there's a base TableView, which has one section, and several rows of customized cells to hold a name and a value label. Clicking on a row brings up another View, which allows the user to pick from a list (another TableView), and select an item. All of these TableViews are done programatically. The base TableView has a property that holds a Controller instance for each of the "pick from the list" Views. Each of the "pick from the list" views has a property called chosenValue that has the currently-selected option. I've gotten the UI to handle the didSelectRowAtIndexPath to update the chosenValue property and then "pop" the view (going back to the main TableView). But, even though the main TableView's cellForRowAtIndexPath method references the chosenValue property of the subview that's held in a property, the view doesn't update when an item is selected. In short, how can the sub-view trigger a reloadData on the parent object, after it "pops" and unloads?

  hi all, I am working on an iPhone application based on UITabBarController and UIViewControllers for each page. The app needs to run in portrait mode only, so every view controller + app delegate goes with this line of code: (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation: (UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { return (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait); } There is one view controller where I would like to pop up a UIImageView when the iPhone is rotaed to landscapeleft. The design of the image looks landscape, although the width and height are 320x460 ( so its portrait ). How can/should I detect this type of rotation manually, just in this specific view controller, withouth having an auto rotation on the entire view? Thomas UPDATE: Thanks! • Troubles configuring SSL for an Apache host

  I configured it on Friday night and all worked well. Today for some reason it stopped working and I can't figure out why. When you goto the secure page it's acting like I have a self-signed certificate and I don't. • "Unable to start program" on Debug Immediately After Successful Build

  When I try to run my first application with the debugger, I get a pop up which says: Visual C__ 2008 Express Edition This project is out of date: ProgName - Debug Win32 Would you like to build it? [Yes[ [No] [Cancel] [ ] Do not show this dialog again? I find this somewhat bothersome, because the very last thing that I did just before that was build the application. And the build did complete successfully (immediately before I clicked on Start Debugging -- F5.) The second time I pressed with wrong cilck on the Answer [No] on the same msg Now, I can't compile my apps What exactly does "do not show this dialog again" mean? It sounds to me like its going to remember my answer and use the same answer every time this situation occurs in the future. I did some stuffs like "Clean Solution" then "Build Solution" then "Start Debugging" ,but the same problem what's the solution ,how can I reset this message to make it work again .

• error with Security Exception

  I am getting the following error on my page: Security Exception Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file. The problem is with the following code SmtpClient mailClient = new SmtpClient("smtp.gmail.com", 587); What's weird is that when testing it at my localhost, everything works fine, but when I put it on my 1and1 web host it generates the error above. I contacted their support and here's their answer. We do check the error logs and the operation require a FullTrust environment which currently fall under restriction on .NET Framewor k What should I do?
