  • Creating a new record using AJAX in ASP.NET-MVC

    I am having the hardest time wrapping my head around this. I recently asked this question Create/Edit/Save data in a jQuery pop-up for ASP.NET-MVC and Linq2Sql I'm sure that the response is the right way to go, but I just can't figure out how to write the back-end code to make it work. I originally made my site by following the nerddinner tutorial. I have a subcontracts model and a subcontracts controller. On my subcontract entry page, I'd like for there to be a pop-up/dialog box where the user can enter a new company if the company isn't already in the drop-down list. Do I need to create a new company controller? I wouldn't have a company model b/c the company table is linked to my subcontracts table within the subcontracts dbml. Can anyone point me to an example somewhere? Or offer any help.

    I intended for this function to call my MVC action method that returns a CSV report. $(function() { $('#exportButton').click(function() { $.get('/curReport/GetCSVReport'); }); }); If I make a button like the code below then, when it is clicked, I'm given the "Open with/Save File" window. <input type="button" value="Export" onClick="location.href='CurReport/GetCSVReport'"> However, when I change my button to use my jQuery function then, although GetCSVReport() is called I'm not given the "Open with/Save File" window.     I've a jQuery.each(data, foo), where data is either a string or a list of strings. I'd like to know if there's an existing utility function to convert the string to a list, or otherwise perform foo on just the string. So instead of the easy route: if (!$.isArray(data)) { foo(0, data); // can't rely on `this` variable } else { $.each(data,foo); } I was just wondering if there was already a builtin function of jQuery or Javascript that would convert data to a list automatically, like this: function convert_to_list(data) { return $.isArray(data) ? data : [data]; } $.each(convert_to_list(data), foo); Just curious!   • how to preload more than one but not all images of a slideshow with jquery

    I'd like to create a web based stop motion video player. Basically a slideshow that shows 2-4 images per second. Each image might be a maximum of 20KB. I don't want to preload all images in the slideshow as there might be thousands, however I need to preload more than just the next image in the show as this will not playback fast enough (because of the playback speed the browser needs to be loading more than one image at a time). I've been looking at using the jQuery Cycle Plugin (http://malsup.com/jquery/cycle/) with a addSlide type function but don't know how to make it work. Would something like this might work? -Slideshow starts -image is played back -preloader will attempt to load up to the next 60 images -playback will wait for the next image in line to completely load, but will not wait for all 59 others. The playback / preloading order is important for this application.

    I am checking for XSS vulnerabilities in a web application I am developing. This Rails app uses the h method to sanitize HTML it generates. It does, however, make use of the jQueryUI autocomplete widget (new in latest release), where I don't have control over the generated HTML, and I see tags are not getting escaped there. The data fed to autocomplete is retrieved through a JSON request immediately before display. I Possibilities: 1) Autocomplete has an option to sanitize I don't know about 2) There is an easy way to do this in jQuery I don't know about 3) There is an easy way to do this in a Rails controller I don't know about (where I can't use the h method) 4) Disallow < symbol in the model Sugestions?

    Hello, I am trying to find the best option to create a simple progress bar that I need to be triggered periodically from within another JavaScript script. Every few minutes, a timer would cause the progress bar to start going from 0 to 100%. Once it reaches 100%, the bar would reset to 0. I am trying to implement a smooth animated version of the bar, like this one: http://www.webappers.com/progressBar/. (I tried adapting this particular one but I could not get it to work the way I described) I am looking into the jQuery UI ProgressBar: Is it possible to use it in the manner I have described?     I'm using the jQuery validate() plugin for some forms and it goes great. The only thing is that I have an input field that requires a special validation process. Here is how it goes: The jQuery validate plugin is called in the domready for all the required fields. Here is an example for an input: <li> <label for="nome">Nome completo*</label> <input name="nome" type="text" id="nome" class="required"/> </li> And here is how I call my special function: <li> <span id="sprytextfield1"> <label for="cpf">CPF* (xxxxxxxxxxx)</label> <input name="cpf" type="text" id="cpf" maxlength="15" class="required" /> <span class="textfieldInvalidFormatMsg">CPF Inv&aacute;lido.</span> </span> </li> And at the bottom of the file I call the Spry function: <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- var sprytextfield1 = new Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("sprytextfield1","cpf"); //--> </script> Of course I call the Spry CSS and JavaScript files in the head section as well as my special-validate.js. When I just use the jQuery validate() plugin and click on the send button, the page goes automatically back to the first mistaken input field and shows the error type (not a number, not a valid email etc.). But with this new function, this "going-back-to-the-first-mistake" feature doesn't work, of course, because the validate() function sees it all good. I already added a rule for another form (about pictures upload) and it goes like this: $("#commentForm").validate({ rules: { foto34: { required: true, accept: "jpg|png|gif" } } }); Now my question is, how can I add the special validation function as a rule of the whole validation process? Here is the page to understand it better: link text and the special field is the first one: CPF. I hope I was clear explaining my problem.

One of the input parameters is an array, this array data is hard coded and thus I want to pass the data like this: (this is how I would do it using PHP) myFunction(Array("1"=>"a","2"=>"b","3"=>"c")); Instead of $arr=Array("1"=>"a","2"=>"b","3"=>"c"); myFunction($arr); So how do I achieve this with my jQuery function, I want this to be a one liner if possible.

    Hi I have an ASP.NET MVC Page with a button called "Start Live Meeting". When the User clicks on this button, it calls a controller method called "StartLiveMeeting" that returns a string. If the controller returns empty string, then i want the Timer to call the Controller method until it returns the string. I am using jquery.timer.js plugin ( http://plugins.jquery.com/files/jquery.timers-1.2.js.txt ) On the button click, the controller method is being called. But Timer is not initiating. I have specified 5sec to call the controller method. I appreciate your responses.     I have a View that renders something like this: "Item 1" and "Item 2" are <tr> elements from a table. After the user change "Value 1" or "Value 2" I would like to call a Controller and put the result (some HTML snippet) in the div marked as "Result of...". I have some vague notions of JQuery. I know how to bind to the onchange event of the Select element, and call the $.ajax() function, for example. But I wonder if this can be achieved in a more efficient way in ASP.NET MVC2.

  • An event for when xVal validation fails?

    I have a registration form leveraging xVal to handle all validation on the form. It works really well, with one exception: the user doesn't get feedback because another element on the page (a tip telling the user that their username will be their email address) draws on top of the span element xVal spits out when it notices a problem. If I had a way to detect when xVal has a problem with the email field, I could just toggle the visibility of that tooltip and be on my way, but I'm not sure how to do so. I know that xVal uses jquery.validate.js under the hood; is there an event or something I could tie into to do this?

  • What's a good bit of JS or JQuery for horizontally scrolling news ticker

    Hi, I am looking for a little bit of JQuery or JS that allows me to produce a horizontally scrolling "news ticker" list. The produced HTML needs to be standards compliant as well. I have tried liScroll but this has a habit of breaking (some content ends up on a second line at the start of the scroll), especially with longer lists. I have also tried this News Ticker but when a DOCTYPE is included the scrolling will jolt rather than cycle smoothly at the end of each cycle. Any suggestions are appreciated. Edit So thanks to Matt Hinze's suggestion I realised I could do what I wanted to do with JQuery animate (I require continuous scrolling not discrete scrolling like the example). However, I quickly ran into similar problems to those I was having with liScroll and after all that realised a CSS issue (as always) was responsible. Solution: liScroll - change the default 'var stripWidth = 0' to something like 100, to give a little space and avoid new line wrapping.

  • accessing embedded object with jquery not working in firefox 3.6

    Hi, this code in my plugin used to work just fine: jQuery('#embedded_obj', context).get(0).getVersion(); and in html... <object id="embedded_obj" type="application/x-versionchecker-1.0.0.1"</object Basically trying to get the properties from an embedded object. But it looks like get(0) is returning an html object instead of the actual embedded object. For example, if I do: var launcher = jQuery('#embedded_obj', context).get(0); for(prop in launcher){ alert(prop + ': ' + launcher[prop]); } ... it alerts things like "getElementByNode," "scrollWidth," "clientLeft," "clientTop" etc. Again this worked before Firefox 3.6. Has anyone else seen this or have any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

    Hi all! Title says it all. I have an XML file containing different testimonial quotes, including the name of the person they're quoted from. I have a DIV on my page, and I want it to rotate randomly between these XML testimonials - LIVE (without refreshing). If this can be done easily in JQuery, that would be even better.
