• Can't boot Ubuntu 12.10 graphics problem

  I can't boot since installing Ubuntu 12.10 When I try to run Ubuntu My computer never gets to the Ubuntu screen with the loading dots. I tried to run in recovery mode with safe graphics (failsafex) When I do this a message pops up saying "the system is running in low graphics mode", If I click okay I am asked what would I like to do and am given four options. I tried running low graphics for one session and then a message appears with a progress bar and says standby one minute while the display restarts. The progress bar never moves and if I click okay the whole process just restarts. I Don't know what to do from here I can't get into the OS. I'm not sure whether the problem is related to compatibility with my laptop monitor or my graphic card nvidia360m I had to install using a safe graphics mode. Can't install Ubuntu since 10.10 ----UPDATE--- I was able to get into a desktop environment By installing Nvidia-current however it is messy. I have a screen and I am able to see my desktop however there is no unity bar and none of the keyboard controls work. I can right click and create a folder on the desktop and then I can see inside that folder in a traditional browser window. There is still no top menu or unity bar. When I boot normally I don't get into the desktop environment and I get this message in tty 'GPU lockup switching to software FBCON' Okay, I've played around with tips the pages from comments. I've been able to consistantly get into a safemode desktop environment using the xorg & nouveau drivers. I've tried switching between the 5 different options in the Additional Drivers tab in Software Sources. The nVidia (proprietary, tested) driver gets beyond the GPU lockup on a normal boot and actually gets into a Desktop. The issue is then that there is no Unity bar, or top screen menu bar and the resolution is very low. I've tried switching to the (prop, tested) driver and then reinstalling Unity and Ubuntu-Desktop but that didn't work either.

  My laptop works perfectly fast with Windows 7 but is very slow in Ubuntu 12.04.When I try to open the dash it takes 1-2 sec.even the normal right click on the desktop for the dropdown options is taking time.I installed preload but it made a very slight change. Everything is up to date. My laptop is : Lenovo ideapad Z560 500 GB hard drive (dual booting win7 and Ubuntu 12.04) 3 GB RAM Intel® Core™ i3 CPU M 370 @ 2.40GHz × 4 processor Nvidia GeForce 310M/PCIe/SSE2 Ubuntu 32 bit any help?

• resizing arrays when close to memory capacity

  So I am implementing my own hashtable in java, since the built in hashtable has ridiculous memory overhead per entry. I'm making an open-addressed table with a variant of quadratic hashing, which is backed internally by two arrays, one for keys and one for values. I don't have the ability to resize though. The obvious way to do it is to create larger arrays and then hash all of the (key, value) pairs into the new arrays from the old ones. This falls apart though when my old arrays take up over 50% of my current memory, since I can't fit both the old and new arrays in memory at the same time. Is there any way to resize my hashtable in this situation Edit: the info I got for current hashtable memory overheads is from here How much memory does a Hashtable use? Also, for my current application, my values are ints, so rather than store references to Integers, I have an array of ints as my values.

  I am trying to serve a csv file from a wcf service, as a string response. It looks like this: HttpContext.Current.Response.AddHeader("Content-disposition", "attachment; filename=ImportErrors.csv"); HttpContext.Current.Response.ContentType = "text/csv"; HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(myCsvContent); The response StatusCode is set to (int)HttpStatusCode.OK (200) It works, but I am only getting 88 bytes of my csv and the rest is cut off (not shown). Any suggestions on where to look? I don't see any custom entries in my web.config that are setting a limit.

  I'm writing my first location based android app, but got confused about some of the GPS service api. Here are some questions I have: 1) To get my current location, I called requestLocationUpdates() with a listener in the onCreate() method of one activity. But what happens when another activity starts and the current activity goes invisible? Is the GPS location update going to stop? If so, how do I keep it on after the activity is switched? 2) how accurate is the Location.getSpeed()? How is it computed? Can it tell the difference between on bicycle and on foot? 3) not really a question about android. How to calculate the coordinates of a location, say, 100m away from my current location? 4) To stop the GPS, I only need to remove all the listeners that have been registered to locationmanager? The output of "lspci | grep VGA" is : 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 03) Hardware drivers says there is no propriority hardware driver. I installed nVidia driver but I think my is an Intel graphics device. Please help.

  Just install 12.04-64bit and while I can login using the guest login, I cannot with my user login: it just cycles back to the login screen. I have performed the sequence of apt-get update/upgrade and install of the nvidia-current driver, but got back that it was already in use. The password appears to be recognized, as wrong one results in an error. Have also tried switching to the 2D Unity, without other results.

  I am getting some display artifacts under a fresh install of 12.10. (Open image in an another tab to get the full effect) Anyone have any idea what might be going on here or a possible solution? My first assumption was display driver, but I've been have some difficulties getting the Nvidia binary driver to work. So I wanted to check for other possible solutions before I spend a lot of time messing with getting that to work.

  Hello All, Could someone please advise in the context of a ASP.Net application is a shared/static function common to all users? If for example you have a function Public shared function GetStockByID(StockID as Guid) as Stock Is that function common to all current users of your application? Or is the shared function only specific to the current user and shared in the context of ONLY that current user? So more specifically my question is this, besides database concurrency issues such as table locking do I need to concern myself with threading issues in shared functions in an ASP.Net application? In my head; let’s say my application namespace is MyTestApplicationNamespace. Everytime a new user connects to my site a new instance of the MyTestApplicationNamespace is created and therefore all shared functions are common to that instance and user but NOT common across multiple users. Is this correct?

  I'm new to linux and recently installed Ubuntu 12.10 alongside Windows on my laptop. Initially 3D screen effects (i.e., Docky) were not working and I tried different things like installing and reinstalling nvidia-current, compiz etc... Now I think I messed up the display drivers completely... Although all the effects are now working, I can't get any screen resolution other than 640x480. Can anyone please tell me how to find out exactly what's wrong and ways of fixing it?

(We have modified the source code) I followed all the steps to create the vendor branch:: created the vendor branch for old version (3rd party library) created the vendor branch for latest version (3rd party library) copied the latest version to current folder using (usign svn_load_dirs.pl script) structure of vendor repository in svn URL/vendor/library/3.5.0 URL/vendor/library/3.7.0 URL/vendor/library/current I have the library-3.5.0 used/modified at URL/trunk/library/customized-library I have a problem when I try to merge the difference between URL/vendor/library/3.7.0 and URL/vendor/library/3.5.0 to URL/trunk/library/customized-library I am at the folder where URL/trunk/library/customized-library is checked out and I use following command to do the merge svn merge URL/vendor/library/3.5.0 URL/vendor/library/current . --accept PARAMETERS when I use theirs-conflict for accept parameter, It ignores all of my changes to the old version and copies files from 3.7.0 when I user mine-conflict, it ignores the files in 3.7.0 when I use postpone, it throws exception "tree conflict" Thanks Gyan

  Whenever a new window is opened and the drop value by default is 'yyyy'(For eg: yyyy for years), onclick of the drop down the value should automatically change to current year, which will be one of the values in the dropdown list (any place in the drop down). So now the value will be set to the current year. Again if the user clicks on the dropdown, the user can change the value to any(For eg: select 'yyyy'). So now the value set in drop down is 'yyyy'. condition 3, if the user clicks on the drop down since the value is 'yyyy' , focus should be the current year and also the value automatically.   for those of you who can help me..I recently installed ubuntu 12.04 lts and i got this screen flickering at the log on screen...i googled this problem and i found out that laptops with nvidia graphics have it...but i have intel hd graphics in mine...i tried "nomodeset" and it was solved but my screen resolution changed to 1024x768 and i couldn't change it to 1366x768...so im using ubuntu 11.10 for now...what should i do?? For those who can help me..i'm a newbie at ubuntu and i know nothing..so please detail your answer.... Anyone??

  In Ubuntu, there is a modified non-proprietary Nvidia driver preinstalled. This driver helps me get the full native resolution (1920x1020) of my flatscreen displayed without errors, while my Graphics Card (Geforce FX 5200) only supports DVI-resolutions up to 1440x900. This is a very cool thing. My question is: Is there such a kind of driver also for Windows XP? I've already tried the omega drivers, but 1920x1020 looks awful on Windows.
