• Title of the page in search results and title of google's cached version are different. Why?

  Check this: http://www.google.com/search?q=site:gunlawsbystate.com+kansas+gun+laws The title of the first result is "Kansas Gun Laws - Gun Laws By State". Although, on the page google has cached the title is different: <title>Kansas Gun Laws - Kansas Gun Law - Reciprocity Guide</title> Google shows the title that has been on the site 2-3 months ago. Google bot has visited the website a lot of times since that, and as you see it even cached it (the latest version is of 15th Sept), however for some reason it doesn't change the title to the new one in the search results. We use hash-bang URL structure on this website. It completely meets google's requirements for AJAX websites (_escaped_fragment_ stuff). The issue I explained is happening with almost all hash-bang pages that got indexed. Questions: Why does it keep old page title in the search results? Can it be connected to the fact that I'm using hash-bang URLs? There are lots of pages on the site that have the same issue, all of them have hash-bang URLs. Another thing I noticed is that Google's "Preview" feature doesn't work for any hash-bang URLs on the site. Did I do anything wrong? It has got cached versions of the pages, why wouldn't it generate a preview? Thanks (and sorry for my English) PS. Here's a weird thing I also noticed: this search query https://www.google.com/search?q=Kansas+Gun+Laws+-+Reciprocity+Guide shows the correct title for the same page as in the example above. Why does google show different titles for the same page when you run different queries?

• How to overcome politics of the net (Google translate code refuses to work from a specific region)

  According to the FAQ's I am not sure if my question is a ok to ask or will be closed or should I post it in the meta or even I would blame some one for downvoting it. However it is one that has been bugging me since the trouble strated. Let me explain. I have this Web Site. On the site you can see that I had to actually remove the above from here, here, and here while left it here, here, here and here. This is so because the the web site "refuses" to load at all with the pages that have the code (i.e., from this region.) If I use Firefox Stealthy Plugin and open the site in Firefox, It works like a charm without any problems. But with Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Opera Web browser, the site does not load/open at all because of the Google translate. (I know this because If I remove the Google Translate Code, the site works/loads fine) It was one thing to program for "cross browser compatability" and alltogether another to program for "cross region compatability". What can I do to make sure that the site works from anywhere? Do I completely remove the Google Translate code and just have to do without the additional functionality or Do I look for alternatives like this or according to this?

• The entire content of my Wordpress page has disappeared

  I have a blog installed on my site using Wordpress. Last week I upgraded Wordpress from 2.6 to 3.0.4 (I had to do this manually). All went well, or so I thought, but I have just noticed that the content of an existing page has vanished. The page URL still works, but all content has disappeared - doctype, html tags, body tags, everything. Please note, this is specific to pages - posts are still displaying fine. I have since created a brand new page which does not display the content either. Things I have tried include Switching to a freshly installed theme Deactivating all plugins Setting the problem page to draft, and back again Deleting the .htaccess file I suspect it's a database problem and have contacted my hosting company who have said the only thing they can do is restore the DB from a backup, but that I should consider it a last resort. Does anyone have any further ideas what to try?

• Avoiding Duplicate Content Penalties on a Corporate/Franchise website

  My question is really an extension of a previous question that was ported from stackoverflow and closed so I cannot edit it. The basic gist is a regional franchise company has decided to force all independent stores into one website look; they currently all have their own domains and completely different websites. After reading the helpful answers and looking over some links provided, I think my solution is to put a 301 on each franchise store site (acme-store1.com, acme-store2.com, etc) back to the main corporate site (acme.com). All of the company history, product info, etc (about 90% of the entire site) applies to all stores. However, each store should have some exclusive content such as staff, location pictures, exclusive events and promotions, etc. I originally thought that I would simply do something like acme.com/store1/staff, acme.com/store2/staff, etc for the store exclusive content and then acme.com/our-company, for example, would cover all stores. However, I now see two issues that I don't know how to solve. They want to see site stats based on what store site they came from. If a user comes from acme-store1.com, is redirected to acme.com and hits several pages, don't I need to somehow keep that original site in the new url to track each page in that user's session and show they originally came from acme-store1.com? Each store is still independently owned and is essentially still in competition with the other stores, albeit, in less competition than they are with other brands. This is important because each store would like THEIR contact info, links to their social media pages, their mailing list sign-up and customer requests on EVERY page. So if a user originally goes to acme-store1.com and is redirected to acme.com, it still should look to the user that it's all about store 1, even though 90% of the content will be exactly the same as it is in the store 2, store 3 and corporate site. For example, acme.com/our-company would have the same company history, same header/footer/navigation, BUT depending on the original site the user came from, it would display contact and links to THAT store. If someone came directly to the corporate site, it would display their contact and links (they have their own as well). I was considering that all redirects would be to store1.acme.com, store2.acme.com, etc (or acme.com/store1) and then I can dynamically add the contact info and appropriate links based on the subdomain or subfolder. But, then I have to worry about duplicate content penalties because, again, about 90% of the text in these "subdomains" are all the same. For reference, this is a PHP5 site. I've already written a compact framework utilizing templates and mod-rewrite that I've used for other sites. Is this an easy fix that I'm just not grasping? Any suggestions?

  I've got Drupal 6 setup within a XAMPP test area. I have LDAP authentication, groups and data working against Active Directory. What I want... is since I'm on an intranet where users are logged in via user-names... is for automatic authentication, without the need to login via the website. If it's more difficult than its worth, it's no major hassle, but I'd like to know if it's possible that when my users visit our intranet they auto-magically authenticate with their already logged in Windows session. Ultimately, I may switch to IIS, but I do like having a portable, easy to backup/copy/test setup so for now I'm going to see if I can get this working in XAMPP.

• Spam bot constantly hitting our site 800-1,000 times a day. Causing loss in sales

  For the past 5 months our site has been receiving hits from these 4 sites below; sheratonbd.com newsheraton.com newsheration.com newsheratonltd.com Typically the exact url they come from looks something like this; http://www.newsheraton.com/ClickEarnArea.aspx?loginsession_expiredlogin=85 The spam bot goes to our homepage and stays there for about 1 min and then exist. Luckily we have some pretty beefy servers so it hasn't even come close to overloading our servers yet. Last month I started blocking the IP address's of the spam bots but they seem to keep getting new ones everyday. So far I have blocked over 200 IP address's, below are a few of the ones I have blocked. They all come from Bangladesh. 58.97.238.214 58.97.149.132 180.234.109.108 180.149.31.221 117.18.231.5 117.18.231.12 Since this has been going on for the past 5 months our real site traffic has started to drop, and everyday our orders get lower and lower. Also since these spam bots simply go to our homepage and then leave our bounce rate in analytics has sky rocketed. My questions are; Is it possible that these spam bots are affecting our SEO? 60% of our orders come from natural search, and since this whole thing has started orders have slowly been dropping. What would be the reason someone would want to waste resources in doing this to our site? IP's aren't free and either are domain names, what would be the goal in doing this to us? We have google adwords but don't advertise on extended networks nor advertise in Bangladesh since we don't ship there so they are not making money on adsense. Has anyone experienced anything similar to this? What did you do and what was the final out come?

I am doing a review of inbound links on a website and found that most of them are sourced from meaningless blogs and spam websites.   Hello. I am running an Apache2 server on a Fedora 13. I'd like to make it publicly accessible(visible).For example I'd like when somebody types http://my.ip.numbes/ that they would see what I have in my document root folder. Just for a presentation of a course work at university. Permissions are set to 755. User owning the document root is apache. SELinux is temporarily disabled. But port 80 is closed. I tried to open it by adding an entry to iptables and restarting them, no change. I guess I am missing something big here. Help would be greatly appreciated.

If you where to say get an in bound link from site-a.com to mysite.com and then linked back from blog.yoursite.com would that be reciprical. Im aware google sees subdomains as different domains all together but in this instance is that the same ?

• Can I host a website on a different address from the webmail?

  I have what is to me an unusual situation. I have a client for whom I have built a website which I will be hosting, they have been using their domain name for their email addresses for a long period before I came along so moving their email account to my host would be problematic and building the website with their current host would also be problematic because their host is very restrictive. So to fix this I altered the A record in their existing control panel to point the domain name to my server. As a result I can see the pages that I have created at their domain and they can still access their existing webmail. However, it appears that they are now experiencing problems receiving email so I can only assume my solution was incorrect. What is the correct way to point their domain at my website but keep their webmail with the existing host? EDIT: 25/5/2012 - My client has finally responded to me after changing the MX record on their existing C-Panel. Email to their email address were being bounced back with the error 'no such recipient', so I set up the same email address in the new C-Panel and changed the MX record there to 'Remote mail exchanger' which has stopped the emails bouncing but has apparently lost them in cyperspace! Unfortunately I can't add a new record because this would require a fully qualified domain name and their domain name is of course pointed at our server!

  Trying to figure out how to update the Zone record and configure webserver so that one application on the webserver is accessible by public. I'm completely not good at NS/DNS/NAT/firewall/routing/port forwarding/networking etc. "faraday" is the intranet name. Everyone within local network can access all applications hosted on "faraday". Hostname for webserver is "www", FTP server is "ftpserver". Both servers running RHEL4 OS. The goal is to allow anyone outside the company network (public) to access only one of the many applications on "faraday". Hope somebody can help me with some of the questions below, if not all. From zoneedit record, the static IP is used by FTP now. Can I use the same existing static IP - 219.95.10.100, for web service? Currently anyone who enter "http://www.abc.com.my" will be directed to "http://www.abc.com". I don't want this to change. Currently, no one else, except employee on local network, can access "faraday" web pages. How to configure so that when anyone type "http://thisapp.abc.com.my" on their web browser, the url will lead them to "http://faraday/thisapp" (application folder is /var/www/html/thisapp on RHEL4 web server). If possible, how to set the URL will continue to show "http://thisapp.abc.com.my" instead of "http://faraday/thisapp" How to limit/restrict user (those who are not from local network) so they only have access to "http://thisapp.abc.com.my", but not "http://faraday" or "http://faraday/anotherapp", etc. What's the configuration changes needed in /etc/httpd.conf on web server? Company domain name is "abc.com.my". Following is the zone records on www.zoneedit.com.   I'm interested in a domain name that expired August 9, 2012 and backordered it a few months ago. When I check the status of the domain name, it is listed as "autoRenewPeriod". It has a new expiration date of August 9, 2013, but a Google search indicates that "autoRenewPeriod" means the registrar automatically renewed the domain but has not received payment yet. Does anyone have experience with this? How long will it stay in "autoRenewPeriod" before being released by the registrar? Do I have a good chance of grabbing the domain name?

• No databases showing in phpMyAdmin

To manage the database of website, I install phpMyAdmin in a sub-folder with the same username and password used in website. When I login to phpMyAdmin, I don't see my database. phpMyAdmin is showing "No databases" in left pane. Is there any thing I need to configure in phpMyAdmin? • Programmatically adding metatags to Masterpages in Web Forms and MVC [migrated]

  Has anyone got any ideas on where we should be adding our SEO metadata in a Web Forms project? Why I ask is that currently I have two main Masterpages, one is the home page and the other one is every other page, they both have the same metadata that’s just a generic description and set of key words about my site. The problem with that is search engines are only picking up my home page and my own search engine displays the same title and description for all results. • Google search question, front page not showing...

  I know this is probably a dumb question but I hope someone can give me some insight; I was ranked on Google first page of search results for "funny st patricks day shirts" but I was third from the bottom and not familiar enough with SEO, so I signed up for "Attracta" to rank higher. Big mistake. Since using Attracta, I've lost the first page and I'm now on the fourth page in that search. What I noticed is that Google is now just showing a sub-page or side page, (a link from my front page, to a page which has only a few designs in it) this is not where I would want customers to land first... but my front page is not showing in that search anymore. Obviously, the title of this side page is not geared toward that search result, so I know that's why I have the pr drop. Why is my front page not ranking over that page, though? Why is it apparently gone from that search, or so far back no one will ever find it? I need to know how to fix this quick if anyone has any advice at all for me. It's the busiest season for my website and the people who were stealing design ideas from me are all ranked higher than my site now. (I can prove this, lol) So, I'm very frustrated by that.
