  • enable vnc on xen without having to shut down all the domains

    The last guy forgot to enable vnc connections on our Xen blade and I need to install a windows domain, is there any way I can enable vnc without shutting down half our company? From what I can tell I need to edit xend-config.sxp which would likely require a restart of xend, which means shutting down all the running domains. Is there any way around this? thanks :)

    using it on 3 different machines, and only my work machine experiences these crashes.. it is running: win 7 Enterprise xeon X5355 2.66Ghz, 2660 Mhz, 4Core, 4Logical 8 gig ram (available phys memory: 3.52 gb) nvidia quardo nvs 285, nvdidia quadro nvs 290 4 monitors visual studio 2010 premium 4.0.30319 RTMRel the crashes usually just make me restart vs, however, on some occasions they freeze the machine completely and require hard boot. not seeing much in event viewer looking for some troubleshooting ideas to narrow this down..

    Recently I have been scanning some of my hand written notes. Each page ends up as a .bmp file (300 DPI A4). I wish to combine/compress these too a DJVU file for easy reading. Hence, Does anyone know of any programs/utilities for OS X/Linux that can do this. If so, what settings can be considered optimal (lined paper, some coloured ink used). Are there any practical means of tagging pages/regions (to create an outline).

There is some way to install .Net 3.5 on Windows 8 without having to download the entire Framework from Microsoft?

So I don't screw it up, I'd like to pre-record typing the more complicated bits of the source code and play it back. Most programs I've found that do similar things (like AutoHotKey) dump the text instantaneously as a giant block. Is there any program that will do this and allow me to adjust the play-back speed?

    I am using mobile dial up on ubuntu. However, SOMETIMES even though I am connected to the ISP, I do not have any entries in /etc/resolv.conf. I often restart network-manager or networking hoping it will change but normally it doesn't do any good. and by connected I mean I can see that the network notification icon has switched to a few bars indicating connectivity). Anyone know a good solution around this?

  • Explorer is missing half tray icons in XP

    Hi, lately and with no explanation half of the tray icons disappear every time I start up XP SP3. I use Process Explorer (procexp.exe) to look for the missing processes and they still there. When i kill and restart explorer.exe, the tray is complete again. I don't know how to diagnostic or repair the problem. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    Just to note I am not having a problem at the moment, but have had previously so it sparked my curiosity... When a computer locks up suddenly to so caps lock flashes incessantly and the only possibility to restart....how do you troubleshoot what is causing it? On Windows there would be some errors in the event log...on Linux it seems there is no opportunity for anything to be written to the log, making it hard to troubleshoot... In this case, how would you troubleshoot the problem through linux?

In Windows 8.1, the desktop display DPI scale can be set via the control panel (pictured below), taking effect immediately. Alternatively, the scale can be set manually in the registry, but doing so requires that the user sign in and out or restart the machine in order to take effect (and only works to imitate the "one scaling level for all my displays" option). How can I set the DPI scale via the command line, or otherwise programmatically?

    While installing the fedora desktop I had unchecked the Games and Entertainment section but I can still see the same Games options available in the menu. I tried checking the same in the Add/Remove Programs but I was not able to get the option for uninstalling the same. Games which are present are: AisleRiot Solitaire, lagno, Mines and Sudoku I would like to delete the games options available. Can someone help me doing the same?

    I've been running Ubuntu 10.10 in a physical x86-64 machine. Today Update Manager reminded me that there are some updates to install and I confirmed the action. I should had read the update list but I didn't. I can only remember there is an update about cups. After the upgrading, Update Manager requires a restart and I confirmed too.     I think I accidentally remapped my git command to automatically include the subcommand credential-osxkeychain on the command line while trying to install a git credential-helper. When I enter $git it now displays Usage: git credential-osxkeychain <get|store|erase> How can I fix it? Entering $alias returns alias rvm-restart='rvm_reload_flag=1 source '\''/Users/teh/.rvm/scripts/rvm'\''' Entering $which git returns /usr/bin/git I think the problem may have began when I entered a command to move git-credential-osxkeychain into /usr/bin/git instead of /usr/bin/

  • Are EC2 security group changes effective immediately for running instances?

    I have an EC2 instance running, and it belongs to a security group. If I add a new allowed connection to that security group through AWS Management Console, should that change be effective immediately? Or perhaps only after restart of the instance? In my case, I'm trying to allow access to PostgreSQL's default port (tcp 5432 5432 0.0.0.0/0), and I'm not sure if it's the EC2 firewall or PostgreSQL's settings that are refusing the connection.

If I run service php-fcgi start & and then ps aux, I see the php-cgi process running bound to the socket. I see the start command stop only when I execute service php-fcgi stop. How do I solve this blocking issue? I have tried adding an & at the end of the line spawning the daemon. But other scripts do not seem to be doing this. This is the most complicated script I am attempting to modify yet :-( How do I get the script to display the green [ OK ]? I checked scripts like httpd and saw that all they were doing was something as shown below. But I never see a green [ OK ] when I execute php-fcgi. I also discovered that putting echo_success with functions sourced displays the green [ OK ] but I do not see any other scripts in the /etc/rc.d/init.d/ executing echo_success or echo_failure. What have I got wrong? Also, How do i specify PHP_FCGI_CHILDREN with daemon? echo [ $RETVAL -eq 0 ] && touch /var/lock/subsys/

I have already installed cygwin and openssh on this computer. i'm open to non-cygwin sshd as long as there won't be any compatibility issues with cygwin related programs.     I am writing an application that contains a web server running on port 50000. On Windows 7, short of turning the firewall off completely, I am having trouble configuring the firewall to allow other computers on the same private LAN to connect to the server. Simply adding the program to the allowed programs list doesn't seem to work. The network connection is set to be a "Home" network (but I am not using Home Networking). Can anyone suggest where I should be looking to troubleshoot this? Bruce
