• RegCreateKeyEx - does it update the returned handle on failure?

  MSDN documentation seems silent on whether RegCreateKeyEx ever updates the value of the handle referred to by its second-last parameter when it fails. My tests have only shown it not to update this - i.e., I set h = 0 before the call, pass &h to a call to RegCreateKeyEx to open a non-existent key, and see h = 0 after the call. Does anyone know of any situation in which the handle would be changed?

  I am using dataTables plugin for a table on a page I am working on. Its basically fetching rows through an ajax call and in this ajax call, I send the search params that the user selects and the page number required. I need the Next, Previous, First and Last buttons to also fire the same ajax call, but with different page numbers, as the back-end interceptor depends on the page number. This api call would return total no. of rows(say 1000) belonging for these search params and the rows with the page size( say 50). Is there any way, I can use data table to do this?

• linq .net with dynamically generated controls

  This is a very strange problem and i really dont have a clue whats causing it. What is supposed to happen is that a call to the BLL then DAL returns some data via a linq SPROC call. The retunred IMultipleResults object is processed and all results stored in a hashtable. The hashtable is stored in session and then the UI layer uses these results to dynamically generate some gridviews. Easy you would think. But if i run the code i dont get any gridviews. If i take out the call to the BLL and DAL the gridviews appear but with nothing in them? Why is it the page renders correctly when i take out the call to get the data? Thanks.

• Circular reference while setting up bidirectional communication line between two remote objects

  I'm using .Net remoting to set up a bidirectional communication line between two objects. The basic structure is as follows: Instances of RemoteObjectA call methods on StaticObjectA. Instances of RemoteObjectB call methods on StaticObjectB. StaticObjectA needs to be able to call methods provided by RemoteObjectB. StaticObjectB needs to be able to call methods provided by RemoteObjectA. The problem with this setup is the circular reference in RemoteObjectA gets StaticObjectA gets RemoteObjectB gets StaticObjectB gets RemoteObjectA... I implemented an interface IRemoteObjectA and IRemoteObjectB and had the remote objects inheret from their respective interfaces, but then setting up the remoting fails. If the solution to this problem is: "don't use remoting", I can deal with that. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a simple solution.

• saving mySql row checkpoint in table ?

  hello, I am having a wee problem, and I am sure there is a more convenient/simpler way to achieve the solution, but all searches are throw in up a blanks at the moment ! I have a mysql db that is regularly updated by php page [ via a cron job ] this adds or deletes entries as appropriate. My issue is that I also need to check if any details [ie the phone number or similar] for the entry have changed, but doing this at every call is not possible [ not only does is seem to me to be overkill, but I am restricted by a 3rd party api call limit] Plus this is not critical info. So I was thinking it might be best to just check one entry per page call, and iterate through the rows/entires with each successive page call. What would be the best way of doing this, ie keeping track of which entry/row in the table that the should be checked next? I have 2 ideas of how to implement this: 1 ) The id of current row could be save to a file on the server [ surely not the best way] 2) an extra boolean field [check] is add to the table, set to True on the first entry and false to all other. Then on each page call it; finds 'where check = TRUE' runs the update check on this row, 'set check = FALSE' 'set [the next row] check = TRUE' Si this the best way to do this, or does anyone have any better sugestion ? thanks in advance ! .k PS sorry about the title

  I'm trying to insert/add a line 'COMMENT DUMMY' at the beginnig of a file as a first row if /PATTERN/ not found. I know how to do this with OPEN CLOSE function. • Firefox all but freezes during large file upload; Ajax progress bar infeasible; IE6 works fine

  I want to provide a progress bar for my users who upload very large files. I did some reading and implemented what should be a pretty straightforward solution: I have a <form> element that contains an file input element; its target is set to the ID of a hidden iframe. On the server side, there's some Spring magic that attaches an object to the user's session; the progress of the upload can be queried from this object. After submitting the form, I start a repeating Ajax call using setInterval that queries the server for the percent-complete using the aforementioned session object. The call repeats every half-second, skipping the Ajax call if the previous call has not yet completed. I use the data from the call to update the width of an onscreen element. When the server call reports that the upload is complete, I clear the interval timer. I created a 100-megabyte file and uploaded it using my interface. This is using Firefox 3.6.3. What I found is that although the upload takes 20-25 seconds, the progress bar doesn't get updated until the very end. Moreover, the entire browser is basically frozen until the upload completes. I assumed that my method must be flawed, but I tried the same page using IE6, and was utterly amazed when it behaved as I had designed it to--the progress bar got updated every half second, and the whole upload only took about 15 seconds, much faster than Firefox. I don't have many add-ons installed, but I tried disabling Firebug and restarting my browser. This marginally improved the performance--I got perhaps a single additional progress bar update mid-upload--but still far from acceptable. Can anyone tell me what I can do to bring Firefox's performance up to the level of IE6? Ugh, I can't believe I actually typed that. EDIT: I just tried uploading a large file from a Firefox 3.6.3 browser on a different machine than the one that's running my web server, and it worked fine. Huh.

I spent several hours figuring out why it happens and asked help from other people, but no one could really find out what is going on. One thing to note is, if I comment out this line: params = JSON.parse(request.env["rack.input"].read) then params has the correct value for "web-form" posting. Actually, the goal is to get the params value if this code is being called by CURL call, so I used: params = JSON.parse(request.env["rack.input"].read) but it messed up the web-form posting. Can anyone solve this mystery?

• AudioOutputUnitStart takes time

  Hello, I'm making an iPhone game application using Core Audio, Extended Audio File Services. It works OK, but when I first call AudioOutputUnitStart, it takes about 1-2 seconds. After the second call, no problem. For a game application, 1-2 seconds is very noticeable. (I tested this on iPhone simulator, and iPhone 3GS) Also, if I leave the game for about 10 seconds, first call of AudioOutputUnitStart also takes time. Maybe I have to call AudioOutputUnitStart beginning of the application to prevent the start-up time?

  Hello. I am a student programmer who has taken up Objective-C on my free time as my college doesn't teach it. We have only used Java and basic C so far. I am in the middle of making a program for the iPod and was wondering if there was any type of way to call a method in a class similar to the way a Focus Listener does in Java? I have a view that I would like to call a refresh method (to update the newly inputted titles of buttons from another view) when the view is put at the top and visible again. Is this too easy or is there a more methodical way of doing that? I have tried to just call the method from the other view class but it does not seem to work (says the other class is either undefined or may not accept the method call and crashes on execution). Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

  I'm trying to pass in both the field and the value in a find call: @employee = Employee.find(:all, :conditions => [ '? = ?', params[:key], params[:value].to_i) The output is SELECT * FROM `employees` WHERE ('is_manager' = 1) Which returns no results, however when I try this directly in mysqsl using the same call without the '' around is_manager, it works fine.   Ok I feel really dumb asking this but I seem to be missing something really simple here. I have the following code in a class in my service layer - public Items getItems(String category, float amount, String color, String type) The code reads from a database and returns the results - I plan on placing it in a jframe. Nice and simple. But no matter how I call it from the jframe I get errors in eclipse that the code is wrong - either that their are illegal modifiers or such. So obviously I am calling it completely wrong, so my stupid question is how do you call that method into a jframe? For example - if I try to call it this way: public Items getItems(); I get told that getItems is an illegal parameter. If I call this.. Items getItems(); I am told its undefined

  I am somewhat confused by what happens when you call strtok on a char pointer in C. I know that it modifies the contents of the string, so if I call strtok on a variable named 'line', its content will change. Assume I follow the bellow approach: void function myFunc(char* line) { // get a pointer to the original memory block char* garbageLine = line; // Do some work // Call strtok on 'line' multiple times until it returns NULL // Do more work free(garbageLine); } Further assume that 'line' is malloced before it is passed to myFunc. Am I supposed to free the original string after using strtok or does it do the job for us? Also, what happens if 'line' is not malloced and I attempt to use the function above? Is it safer to do the following instead?   I am writing a client program that uses Sockets. I would like the client to receive asyncronously UNLESS it is expecting a response, in which case I would like to receive syncronously. My current problem is that because I have to make a call to socket.BeginReceive which waits until there's data on the buffer, the async call always happens prior to the sync call.. How could I temporarily stop BeginReceive from executing? Is there a way to call EndReceive and then once I am done receiving syncronously, I can continue to receive asnycronously?
