  How can I filter my results in a Query? example I have 5 Records John,Smith,apple Jane,Doe,apple Fred,James,apple Bill,evans,orange Willma,Jones,grape Now I want a query that would bring me back 3 records with the DISTINCT FRUIT, BUT... and here is the tricky part, I still want the columns for First Name , Last Name. PS I do not care which of the 3 it returns mind you, but I need it to only return 3 (or what ever how many DISTINCT fruit there are. ex return would be John,Smith,apple Bill,evans,orange Willma,Jones,grape Thanks in advance I've been banging my head on this all day.

• How to reinforce pseudo css rules

  Is there anyway to reinforce pseudo css rules? ie: I have a listing of divs (playlist) which I color with the following rules: #playlist .playlist_item { background: #d6d6d6; } #playlist .playlist_item:nth-child(odd) { background: #b3b3b3; } Now, when a song is playing, I use setInterval and JQuery's .animate function to pulse the background color. When the song is finished I clear the interval, but of course the song's background remains the last color set in the interval. Is there a way to re-set the song's color based on the CSS rule? Otherwise I'll have to keep track of the previous song (which may have changed position, and thus color) or setup distinct background color classes and reset the classes of all the songs in the playlist anytime someone adds, removes, or moves a song in the playlist or a song ends. I'd much rather use a CSS only approach. Thanks in advance, Dan

• Creating multiple log files of different content with log4j

  Is there a way to configure log4j so that it outputs different levels of logging to different appenders? I'm trying to set up multiple log files. The main log file would catch all INFO and above messages for all classes. (In development, it would catch all DEBUG and above messages, and TRACE for specific classes.) Then, I would like to have a separate log file. That log file would catch all DEBUG messages for a specific subset of classes, and ignore all messages for any other class. Is there a way to get what I'm after? Thanks, Dan

• Aborting jQuery().load()

  The .load() function of the jQuery library allows you to selectively load elements from another page (subject to certain rules). I would like to know whether it is possible to abort the load process. In our application, a user can browse a list of items. They may choose to click a button which loads and displays additional information about an item from another document (which can take some time). If they choose a different item in the list whilst a .load() is still happening, I would like the loading to be aborted. Is this possible? Is it even worth it? Any ideas? Dan

• rsync creating thousands of ..ds_store files from mounted volume

  hello there - been using rsync on os x to sync all our website admins. it was working fine until the os x 10.6.3 update! Now it creates thousands of ZeroK folders. • Why am I getting unexpected output trying to write a hash structure to a file?

  I have a hash in which I store the products a customer buys (%orders). It uses the product code as key and has a reference to an array with the other info as value. At the end of the program, I have to rewrite the inventory to the updated version (i.e. subtract the quantity of the bought items) This is how I do rewrite the inventory: sub rewriteInventory{ open(FILE,'>inv.txt'); foreach $key(%inventory){ print FILE "$key\|$inventory{$key}[0]\|$inventory{$key}[1]\|$inventory{$key}[2]\n" } close(FILE); } where $inventory{$key}[x] is 0 → Title, 1 → price, 2 → quantity. The problem here is that when I look at inv.txt afterwards, I see things like this: CD-911|Lady Gaga - The Fame|15.99|21 ARRAY(0x145030c)||| BOOK-1453|The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown|14.75|12 ARRAY(0x145bee4)||| Where do these ARRAY(0x145030c)||| entries come from? Or more important, how do I get rid of them?

• Working with a Java Mail Server for Testing

  I'm in the process of testing an application that takes mail out of a mailbox, performs some action based on the content of that mail, and then sends a response mail depending on the result of the action. I'm looking for a way to write tests for this application. Ideally, I'd like for these tests to bring up their own mail server, push my test emails to a folder on this mail server, and have my application scrape the mail out of the mail server that my test started. Configuring the application to use the mailserver is not difficult, but I do not know where to look for a programatic way of starting a mail server in Java. I've looked at JAMES, but I am unable to figure out how to start the server from within my test. So the question is this: What can I use for a mail server in Java that I can configure and start entirely within Java?

• Can someone explain the ivy.xml dependency's conf attribute?

  I can't find any thorough explanation of the ivy dependency tag's conf attribute: <dependency org="hibernate" name="hibernate" rev="3.1.3" conf="runtime, standalone -> runtime(*)"/> See that conf attribute? I can't find any explanation (that I can understand) about the right hand side of the - symbol. PLEASE keep in mind I don't know the first thing about maven so please explain this attribute with that consideration. • Modifying JSF Component Tree in PhaseListener

  Hi all, I'm having an issue. I've implemented a PhaseListener, which is meant to add a style class to any UIInput components in the tree that have messages attached to them, and removes the style class if it doesn't have any messages attached to them. The PhaseListener runs in the RENDER_RESPONSE phase, and does it's work in both the beforePhase and afterPhase methods while debugging. While debugging, I found that beforePhase doesn't have access to the full component tree, but afterPhase does. Any changes done in afterPhase aren't rendered though. How do I go about this? I want this to be completely server side. Thanks, James

  I have a list that I need sorted by two fields. I've tried using OrderBy in LINQ but that only allows me to specify one field. I'm looking for the list to be sorted by the first field and then if there are any duplicates in the first field to sort by the second field. For example I want the results to look like this (sorted by last name then first name). Adams, John Smith, James Smith, Peter Thompson, Fred I've seen that you can use the SQL like syntax to accomplish this but I am looking for a way to do it with the OrderBy method.   My problem is as follows. I have a multidimensional array. I declare my array. Then, I run some code that populates my array partially. Then i run a function, which among others is supposed to modify some item in my array from within the function. This is unfortunately not working. So my question is simple. Is it normal? • Multiple TinyMCE editors, but only one toolbar?

  Hello there. I've looked around the forum, but cannot seem to find a definite answer to this problem... I'm using jQuery and TinyMCE on our website. I've gone through the docs of TinyMCE, but am still getting lost I'm afraid. We're doing an interface that requires edit-in-place in multiple places in the page. The only thing is, each of these will have all the editing choices from TinyMCE in one toolbar at the top. So, to recap it, it's multiple editors (that each have no toolbars of their own, just a place to edit or select the text) and only one toolbar at the top of the page to control whichever textbox is active at the time. How could this be achieved? Is it even possible? Any help, any push in the right direction, any hints/tips/knowledge at all on this problem would be a great, great help. Thanks, James

  So, I have some code which looks like this: byte* ar; foo(ar) // Allocates a new[] byte array for ar ... delete[] ar; To make this safer, I used a scoped_array: byte* arRaw; scoped_array ar; foo(arRaw); ar.reset(arRaw); ... // No delete[] The question is, Is there any existing way to do this using just the scoped_array, without using a temporary raw array? • Using GLOrtho to view Side, Front, Top perspectives of a 3D scene

  Dear all, I'm building a game level editing app as part of a university project. In my application I have multiple viewports, a Perspective viewport and three orthographic views all setup to view the same scene. I've successfuly setup the orthographic views and can translate and scale them to mimic scrolling and zooming. Unfortunately, I'm having one problem - my scene still contains 3 dimensions, so objects viewed in orthographic mode of certain depths are clipped when they fall outside of my clipping volume. Most 3D authoring tools or level editors allow you to view all objects in orthographic mode regardless of depth. I guess what I need to do is scale my scene in the appropriate dimension so that all values lie between 1 and -1, is there a straightforward way of going about this?   ASP.NET 3.5 SP1 adds a great new ScriptCombining feature to the ScriptManager object as demonstrated on this video. However he only demonstrates how to use the feature with the ScriptManager on the same page. I'd like to use this feature on a site where the scriptmanager is on the master page but can't figure out how to add the scripts I need for each page programmatically to the manager.   I've seen -1 used in various APIs, most commonly when searching into a "collection" with zero-based indices, usually to indicate the "not found" index. This "works" because -1 is never a legal index to begin with. It seems that any negative number should work, but I think -1 is almost always used, as some sort of (unwritten?) convention. I would like to limit the scope to Java at least for now. My questions are: What are the official words from Sun regarding using -1 as a "special" return value like this? What quotes are there regarding this issue, from e.g. James Gosling, Josh Bloch, or even other authoritative figures outside of Java? What were some of the notable discussions regarding this issue in the past?

These are my tables. student table: SID (primary) student_name advisor (foreign key to faculty.facultyID) requested_advisor (foreign key to faculty.facultyID) faculty table: facultyID (primary key) advisor_name I want to query a table that shows everything in the student table, but I want advisor and requested_advisor to show up as names, not the ID numbers. so like it displays like this on the webpage: Student Name: Jane Smith SID: 860123456 Current Advisor: John Smith Requested advisor: James Smith not like this Student Name: Jane Smith SID: 860123456 Current Advisor: 1 Requested advisor: 2 SELECT student.student_name, SID, student_email, faculty.advisor_name FROM student INNER JOIN faculty ON student.advisor = faculty.facultyID; this comes out close, but I don't know how to get the requested_advisor to show up as a name.

There it should only show the name once and then just display projects under the name. I've looked tihs up and the split function seems interesting any help would be good.
