  • Printing Stdout In Command Line App Without Overwriting Pending User Input

    - by Chris S
In a basic Unix-shell app, how would you print to stdout without disturbing any pending user input. e.g. Below is a simple Python app that echos user input. A thread running in the background prints a counter every 1 second. import threading, time class MyThread( threading.Thread ): running = False def run(self): self.running = True i = 0 while self.running: i += 1 time.sleep(1) print i t = MyThread() t.daemon = True t.start() try: while 1: inp = raw_input('command> ') print inp finally: t.running = False Note how the thread mangles the displayed user input as they type it (e.g. hell1o wo2rld3). How would you work around that, so that the shell writes a new line while preserving the line the user's currently typing on?

  • Maintaining both sides of self-referential many-to-many relationship in Grails domain object

    - by Ali G
I'm having some problems getting a many-to-many relationship working in grails. Is there anything obviously wrong with the following: class Person { static hasMany = [friends: Person] static mappedBy = [friends: 'friends'] String name List friends = [] String toString() { return this.name } } class BootStrap { def init = { servletContext -> Person bob = new Person(name: 'bob').save() Person jaq = new Person(name: 'jaq').save() jaq.friends << bob println "Bob's friends: ${bob.friends}" println "Jaq's friends: ${jaq.friends}" } } I'd expect Bob to be friends with Jaq and vice-versa, but I get the following output at startup: Running Grails application.. Bob's friends: [] Jaq's friends: [Bob] (I'm using Grails 1.2.0)

  • Show choosen option in a notification Feed, Django

    - by apoo
    Hey I have a model where : LIST_OPTIONS = ( ('cheap','cheap'), ('expensive','expensive'), ('normal', 'normal'), ) then I have assigned the LIST_OPTIONS to nature variable. nature = models.CharField(max_length=15, choices=LIST_OPTIONS, null=False, blank=False). then I save it: if self.pk: new=False else: new=True super(Listing, self).save(force_insert, force_update) if new and notification: notification.send(User.objects.all().exclude(id=self.owner.id), "listing_new", {'listing':self, }, ) then in my management.py: def create_notice_types(app, created_models,verbosity, **kwargs): notification.create_notice_type("listing_new", _("New Listing"), _("someone has posted a new listing"), default=2) and now in my notice.html I want to show to users different sentences based on the options that they have choose so something like this: LINK href="{{ listing.owner.get_absolute_url }} {{listing.owner}} {% ifequal listing.nature "For Sale" %} created a {{ listing.nature }} listing, <a href="{{ listing.get_absolute_url }}">{{listing.title}}</a>. {% ifequals listing.equal "Give Away"%} is {{ listing.nature }} , LINK href="{{ listing.get_absolute_url }}" {{listing.title}}. {% ifequal listing.equal "Looking For"%} is {{ listing.nature }} , LINK href="{{ listing.get_absolute_url }}" {{listing.title}} {% endifequal %} {% endifequal %} {% endifequal %} Could you please help me out with this.   • What is an efficient way to write password cracking algorithm (python)

    - by Luminance
This problem might be relatively simple, but I'm given two text files. One text file contains all encrypted passwords encrypted via crypt.crypt in python. The other list contains over 400k+ normal dictionary words. The assignment is that given 3 different functions which transform strings from their normal case to all different permutations of capitalizations, transforms a letter to a number (if it looks alike, e.g. G - 6, B - 8), and reverses a string. The thing is that given the 10 - 20 encrypted passwords in the password file, what is the most efficient way to get the fastest running solution in python to run those functions on dictionary word in the words file? It is given that all those words, when transformed in whatever way, will encrypt to a password in the password file. Here is the function which checks if a given string, when encrypted, is the same as the encrypted password passed in: def check_pass(plaintext,encrypted): crypted_pass = crypt.crypt(plaintext, encrypted) if crypted_pass == encrypted: return True else: return False Thanks in advance.

  • Prevent wsgi from modifying 401 responses.

    - by Gary van der Merwe
If I have the following pylons controller: def challange(self): response.status = '401 Unauthorized' return 'You are not logged in.' I would expect to see 'You are not logged in.' But I see : Unauthorized This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document you requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser does not understand how to supply the credentials required. WSGI Server I have disabled the pylons error middleware. But the wsig server seems to be modifying the response. How do I stop this?

  • Django Formset validation with an optional ForeignKey field

    - by Camilo Díaz
Having a ModelFormSet built with modelformset_factory and using a model with an optional ForeignKey, how can I make empty (null) associations to validate on that form? Here is a sample code: ### model class Prueba(models.Model): cliente = models.ForeignKey(Cliente, null = True) valor = models.CharField(max_length = 20) ### view def test(request): PruebaFormSet = modelformset_factory(model = Prueba, extra = 1) if request.method == 'GET': formset = PruebaFormSet() return render_to_response('tpls/test.html', {'formset' : formset}, context_instance = RequestContext(request)) else: formset = PruebaFormSet(request.POST) # dumb tests, just to know if validating if formset.is_valid(): return HttpResponse('0') else: return HttpResponse('1') In my template, i'm just calling the {{ form.cliente }} method which renders the combo field, however, I want to be able to choose an empty (labeled "------") value, as the FK is optional... but when the form gets submitted it doesn't validate. Is this normal behaviour? How can i make this field to skip required validation?

  • Python Instance Variable as Default Parameter

    - by DuneBug
Hello, I have am writing a Python function that takes a timeout value as a parameter. Normally, the user will always use the same timeout value, but on occasion he may want to wait slightly longer. The timeout value is stored as a class instance variable. I want to use the class' timeout instance variable as the default parameter. Currently, I am implementing this as follows: def _writeAndWait (self, string, timeout = -1): if (timeout == -1): timeout = self._timeout I was just wondering, is the proper way to use an instance variable as a default parameter? Or is there a better way that would avoid the "if" check? Thanks, Ryan

  • Django - model.save(commit=False - Is there a way to replicate this?

    - by orokusaki
I'm wanting to do this: from django.contrib.auth.models import User class PetFrog(models.Model): user = models.OnetoOneField(User) color = models.CharField(max_length=20) def clean(self): if self.color == 'Green': user = User(username='prince') user.save(commit=False) # No commit argument in models.Model.save() like there is in ModelForm.save() user.set_password(self.password) user.save() self.user = user Is there a way to do this creation of a model instance without filling in all the required fields, and then setting them manually before trying to save() for real (which would obviously raise a "Must choose a Password" error)? I need to do this in my model, vs using a ModelForm. If there is another way to do it (while still in clean()), I'm completely open to any suggestions.

Why I get error message in the first case? Why Ruby decide to convert scene.number from String to Integer? And one additional question about the 'inject' method. When Ruby initialize the 'new_hash' variable and how can Ruby know the type of this variable?

  • Properly using subprocess.PIPE in python?

    - by Gordon Fontenot

  • Integrate Jasper in Rails 3

    - by AndreDurao
I'm trying to integrate a rails 3 app with jasper following this wiki: http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/HowtoIntegrateJasperReports But it seems that a lot of information isn't updated so it's been very hard to make it work by myself. I've also read a topic at ruby-forum: http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/139453 with some details explained but still couldn't make it work. My first problem is related with the render_to_string method: When the controller method runs I receive a "Template is missing" error: this is the method: def report @customers = Customer.all send_doc(render_to_string(:template => report_customers_path, :layout => false), '/pdfs', 'report.jasper', "customers", 'pdf') end Although this seems simple I'm not understanding why is this happening. Doesn't render_to_string with layout = false suposed to get me the string result of that action? I also tried :action instead of :template, but it does the same. If anybody with some expertise with this integration could help... Thanks in advance, André

  • Get signal names from numbers in Python

Is there a way to map a signal number (e.g. signal.SIGINT) to its respective name (i.e. "SIGINT")? I'd like to be able to print the name of a signal in the log when I receive it, however I cannot find a map from signal numbers to names in Python, i.e. import signal def signal_handler(signum, frame): logging.debug("Received signal (%s)" % sig_names[signum]) signal.signal(signal.SIGINT, signal_handler) For some dictionary sig_names, so when the process receives SIGINT it prints: Received signal (SIGINT) Thank you.

  • Python decoding issue with hashlib.digest() method

Despite reading several guides on ASCII, Unicode, utf-8 and the like, I think I'm still far from mastering the secrets of string encoding/decoding. After browsing StackOverflow and searching for insights via Google, I figured out I should ask the question here. Any idea ? Thanks !

  • Testing across multiple sessions in merb using webrat

    - by m7d
I want to test across multiple sessions using webrat in merb. Apparently, this is fairly easy to accomodate in Rails via: http://erikonrails.snowedin.net/?p=159. Following the same logic, I am trying to do something that follows that pattern for merb and webrat. Here is an attempt (which does not work because MerbAdapter does not respond to visit and other webrat session methods; I don't want to take too much more time with this so I have stopped here for now): # defined in test.rb environment file module Merb #:nodoc: module Test #:nodoc: module RequestHelper #:nodoc: def in_a_separate_session old = @_webrat_session.response.clone @_webrat_session = Webrat::MerbAdapter.new yield @_webrat_session.response = old end end end end I tried a few other ideas, but obviously I am missing something. Anyone else know how this would be done in merb? I think I could specify a cookie jar using the request mock, but I prefer to do this with webrat.

I have a usermailer.rb def makeakase(email, name, jobno, casesubject) recipients email from "no-reply@your_rails_app.com" subject "FW: Kase creation from Survey Manager" sent_on Time.now body :name => name end and I have the kases_controller.rb: if @kase.save UserMailer.deliver_makeakase("[email protected]", "Highrise") In the body I would like to use the tags that I use in the kase show view such as: <%=h @kase.jobno %> - <%=h @kase.casesubject %> but they don't work, I get the following error: wrong number of arguments (2 for 4) Any ideas? Thanks, Danny

  • In Django, can you add a method to querysets?

    - by Paul D. Waite
In Django, if I have a model class, e.g. from django.db import models class Transaction(models.Model): ... then if I want to add methods to the model, to store reasonably complex filters, I can add a custom model manager, e.g. class TransactionManager(models.Manager): def reasonable_complex_filter(self): return self.get_query_set().filter(...) class Transaction(models.Model): objects = TransactionManager() And then I can do: >>> Transaction.objects.reasonably_complex_filter() Is there any way I can add a custom method that can be chained to the end of a query set from the model? I.e. add the custom method in such a way that I can do this: >>> Transaction.objects.filter(...).reasonably_complex_filter()
