  • Abstract Methods in "Product" - Factory Method C#

    I have a simple class library (COM+ service) written in C# to consume 5 web services: Add, Minus, Divide, Multiply and Compare. I've created the abstract product and abstract factory classes. The abstract product named WS's code: public abstract class WS { public abstract double Calculate(double a, double b); public abstract string Compare(double a, double b); } As you see, when one of the subclasses inherits WS, both methods must be overridden which might not be useful in some subclasses. E.g. Compare doesn't need Calculate() method. To instantiate a new CompareWS object, the client class will call the CreateWS() method which returns a WS object type. public class CompareWSFactory : WSFactory { public override WS CreateWS() { return new CompareWS(); } } But if Compare() is not defined as abstract in WS, the Compare() method cannot be invoked. This is only an example with two methods, but what if there are more methods? Is it stupid to define all the methods as abstract in the WS class? My question is: I want to define abstract methods that are common to all subclasses of WS whereas when the factory creates a WS object type, all the methods of the subclasses can be invoked (overridden methods of WS and also the methods in subclasses). How should I do this?

    hi there is there a way to translate an expression to sql to use with linq to sql? for example I have a method that compares two values example: MyComparer.Compare(value1, value2, ">") return value1 > value2 MyComparer.Compare(value1, value2, "=") return value1 == value2 MyComparer.Compare(value1, value2, "<=") return value1 <= value2 and i would like a query like var list = from i in dataContext.items where MyComparer.Compare(i.value, someValue, "some operator") select ... this won't work because, obviously, MyComparer doesn't translate to sql maybe this is a twisted question, but how can i translate this method to sql or is this possible? tks

It’s as big as 8MB I built it using sqlite3 in Mac OS X, inserted UTF-8 encoded strings (for I am using Korean), added android_meta table with ko_KR as locale, as instructed above. However, When I debug, it keeps showing IOException at length=myInput.read(buffer) I suspect it’s caused by trying to read a big file. If not, I have no clue why. I tested the same code using much smaller text file, and it worked fine. Can anyone help me out on this? I’ve searched many places, but no place gave me the clear answer, or good solution. Good meaning efficient or easy. I will try use BufferedInput(Output)Stream, but if the simpler one cannot work, I don’t think this will work either. Can anyone explain the fundamental limits in file input/output in Android, and the right way around it, possibly? I will really appreciate anyone’s considerate answer. Thank you.   • Can I make a folder writeable in Medium trust?

    My web app writes to several folders (logs, uploads, etc), and I've always set these permissions manually through my hosting provider. I'd like to create a setup script that performs this on new installations. Is this possible under Medium trust? I can't even call File.GetAccessControl, let alone File.SetAccessControl, but I don't need such a "big hammer", anyway. I just want to do what the ISP (in this case GoDaddy) is letting me do through a management console. I believe PHP is able to do this, and I'd be willing to consider a PHP page for this purpose if that's possible.

  • Adding negative and positive numbers in java without BigInt.

    Hi, i'm trying to write a small java class. I have an object called BigNumber. I wrote method that add two positive numbers, and other method that subract two also positive numbers. Now i want them to handle negative numbers. So the i wrote couple of 'if' statements eg. if (this.sign == 1 /* means '+' */) { if (sn1.sign == 1) { if (this.compare(sn1) == -1 /* means this < sn1 */ ) return sn1.add(this); else return this.add(sn1); } etc. Unfortunately the code looks just ugly. Like a bush of if's and elses. Is there a better way to write that kind of code? Edit i can't just do this.add(sn1) beacuse sometimes i want to add positive number to negative one or negitve to negative. But add can handle only positive numbers. So i have to use basic math and for example: instead of add negative number to negative number i add this.abs() (absolute value of number) to sn1.abs() and return the result with opposite sign. Drew: this lines are from method _add. I use this method to decide what to do with numbers it receive. Send them to add method? Or send them to subract method but with different order (sn1.subtract(this))?   • Clarification needed: How does .NET runtime resolve assembly references from parent folder?

    I have the following output structure of executables in my solution: %ProgramFiles% | +-[MyAppName] | +-[Client] | | | +-(EXE & several DLL assemblies) | +-[Common] | | | +-[Schema Assemblies] | | | | | +-(several DLL assemblies) | | | +-(several DLL assemblies) | +-[Server] | +-(EXE & several DLL assemblies) Each project in solution references different DLL assemblies, some of which are outputs from other projects in solution, and others are plain 3rd-party assemblies. For example, [Client] EXE might reference an assembly in [Common], which is in a different directory branch. All references have "Copy Local" set to false, to mirror the layout of the files in the final installed application. Now, if I take a look at reference properties in the Visual Studio IDE, I see that "Path" of every reference is absolute and that it corresponds to the actual output location of the assembly. That's understandable and correct. As expected, solution compiles and runs just fine. What I don't understand is, why everything seems to work even when I close the IDE, rename the [MyAppName] directory and run the [Client] EXE manually? How does the runtime find the assemblies if the reference paths aren't the same as they were at the time of linking? To be clear - this is actually exactly what I'm after: a semi-dispersed set of application files that run fine regardless of where the [MyAppName] directory is located or even what it's named. I'd just like to know, how and why this works without any specific path resolution on my part. I've read the answers to this similar question, but I still don't get it. Help much appreciated!

  • My ASP.NET Web Application cannot 'find' any of my classes in the App_Code folder .. ??

    Hi folks, I'm trying to make a new asp.net web application .. so I'm copying my files from one site to the new one, in the same solution. Now, any of my classes in the App_Code directory ... they are not getting 'picked up' by the rest of my project. For example... \_ \_App_Code |_ BaseMasterPage.cs (please don't ask why this is in here..) |_ Utility.cs |_ FooBar.cs \_MasterPages |_ Default.master.cs // This file errors ;( namespace Foo.WebSite.MasterPages { public partial class Default_master : App_Code.BaseMasterPage { ... } } namespace Foo.WebSite.App_Code { public class BaseMasterPage : MasterPage { .. } } It cannot find the App_Code.BaseMasterPage (compilation and intellisence error) in the Default.master.cs page. Can someone please help? this is killing me :(

  • Moving a large number of files in one directory to multiple directories

    I am looking to create a Windows batch script to move about 2,000 files and splitting them up so that there are 10 files per folder. I have attempted creating a batch script but the syntax really boggles my mind. Here is what I have so far @echo off :: Config parameters set /a groupsize = 10 :: initial counter, everytime counter is 1, we create new folder set /a n = 1 :: folder counter set /a nf = 1 for %%f in (*.txt) do ( :: if counter is 1, create new folder if %n% == 1 ( md folder%nf% set /a n += 1 ) :: move file into folder mv -Y %%f folder%nf%\%%f :: reset counter if larger than group size if %n% == %groupsize% ( set /a n = 1 ) else ( set /a n += 1 ) ) pause Basically what this script does is loop through each .txt file in the directory. It creates a new directory in the beginning and moves 10 files into that directory, then creates a new folder again and moves another 10 files into that directory, and so on. However, I'm having problems where the n variable is not being incremented in the loop? I'm sure there's other errors too since the CMD window closes on me even with pause. Any help or guidance is appreciated, thanks for your time!

Does anyone know what causes this/how to fix this? The clients are certainly not running the app in debugger so it is surely reproducible out of debugger.

  • TFS Folders - Getting them to work like Subversion "Trunk/Tags/Branches"

    I recently started using Team Foundation Server, and am having some trouble getting it to work the way I want it to. I've used Subversion for a couple years now, and love the way it works. I always set up three folders under each project, Trunk, Tags, and Branches. When I'm working on a project, all my code lives under a folder called "C:\dev\projectname". This "projectname" folder can be made to point to either trunk, or any of the branches or tags using Subversion (with the switch command). Now that I'm using TFS (my client's system), I'd like things to work the same way. I created a "Trunk" folder with my project in it, and mapped "Project/Trunk/Website" to "c:\dev\Website". Now, I want to make a release under the "tags" folder (located in "Project/Tags/Version 1.0/Website", and TFS is giving me the following error when I execute the branch command: "No appropriate mapping exists for $Project/tags/Version 1.0/Website" From what I can find on the internet, TFS expects you to have a mapping to your hard drive at the root of the project (the "Project" folder in my case), and then have all the source code that lives in trunk, tags and branches all pulled down to your hard drive. This sucks because it requires way too much stuff on your hard drive, and even worse, when you are working in a solution in Visual Studio, you won't be able to pull down "Version 2.0" and have all your project references to other projects work, because they'll all be pointing to "trunk" folders under the main folder, not just the main folder itself. What I want to do is have the root "Project/Website" folder on my hard drive, and be able to have it point to (mapped to) either tags, branches, or trunk, depending on what i'm doing, without having to screw around with fixing Visual Studio project references. Ideas?

  • Windows EFS file sharing anomaly

    Fyi, I can confirm this happening in Windows Vista (Business) and Windows 7 Professional in WORKGROUP mode (as both a client and a server). I am not totally sure if this is a Superuser question or a ServerFault question. So there are two PCs, let's call them C (client) and S (server). Both servers have a user called U with the same password. Both C and S has the same private/public key pair for EFS. S shares a folder F with U given full permission. Also locally, the user U has the full permission on F. Now, U, from C, connects to F at the server S, everything works totally fine. I can read,write, delete files and create/delete folders in S. Things go weird from here. I encrypt the folder F in S. I can delete/modify files fine (so the files in F decrypted OK). However, U from C, cannot create a folder, or create a file getting Access Denied. But this Access Denied is very special. It takes over 10 seconds at C to receive the error and the explorer freezes while trying to create a folder, eventually returning error. In S, I can watch the folder created at the same time, and what I see is "New Folder" blinking like crazy and eventually disappearing when the client receives the error. i.e. it's created and deleted in a really rapid manner. What I do not understand is that permissions look fine, I can modify/delete files, and it looks like there is no problem with EFS because I can read/write files fine. Yet it fails to create a file or a folder. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, wbkang

  • How can I find "People's Contacts" folders via Outlook's object model?

    I have some code that locates all the contact folders that a user has access to by iterating through the Application.Session.Stores collection. This works for the user's contacts and also all the public contacts folders. It also finds all the contacts folders in additional mailbox accounts that the user has added via the Tools - Account Settings... menu command. However, this requires the user to have full access to the other person's account. When a user only has access to another person's contacts, then that person's contacts show up under the "People's Contacts" group in the Contacts view. How do I find those contact folders that don't show up under Session.Stores? In order to see the other user's contacts folder without adding access to their full mailbox, click File - Open - Other User's Folder... from the Outlook menu. In the dialog box, enter the other user's name and select Contacts from the Folder type drop down list. Here's the code (minus the error checking and logging) I'm using to find a list of all the user's Outlook contact folders. I know this can (and maybe should) be done using early binding to the Outlook.Application type, but that doesn't affect the results. EnumerateFolders is recursive so that it searches all sub folders.     I have a variable which is <type 'datetime.timedelta'> and I would like to compare it against certain values. Lets say d produces this datetime.timedelta value 0:00:01.782000 I would like to compare it like this: #if d is greater than 1 minute if d>1:00: print "elapsed time is greater than 1 minute" I have tried converting datetime.timedelta.strptime() but that does seem to work. Is there an easier way to compare this value?

    Hey, I'm trying to redirect something like foo/bar to ?foo=bar, so I can do www.mydomain.com/hey/foo/bar to www.mydomain.com/hey/?foo=bar, but I can't seem to get the syntax right. I tried the following: RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^foo/(.*)$ ?foo=bar [NC] But this doesn't work. How would I accomplish this? I tried adding a forward slash behind the question mark, but that makes it link to the root directory. Thanks, Jengerer

  • how to embed flash that is trying to access xml in it's original folder.

    I've got various flash files stored on my server. For this exmaple - here is the directory structure: Files Example - example.swf - example.xml So then on a separate webpage stored in the root of my server.. i'm embeding the flash. ... <param name="movie" value="http://www.example.com/Files/Example/example.swf"> ... Now the issue comes. Because the .swf is trying to access example.xml ... which is NOT stored in the root directory. How can I fix this problem? (I'd rather not use an iframe)
