  • Which jsPerf-test should I consider as standard for checking the performance of javascript template-engines

    I am on a search for a javascript template engine that has good performance when used in large js applications and is also very suitable for mobile applications. So I have gone through the various jsPerf-tests for these. There seems to be a lot which show different results and it is confusing to find out which is the standard test. Can some one guide me a standard jsPerf that I can refer to and that should also include following templates dust, underscore, hogan, mustache, handlebars. From what I have observed dot.js is a constant performer with good rendering speed, but is it mature enough for larger applications ? What is this "with" and "no with" that is shown in the jspref tests? Can some one explain. In all the tests I have seen popular templates like mustache, handlebars, dust, hogan,etc seems to be behind performance than other templates, so why people are using them leaving out the top performers,is it because of maturity of these template engines?   • JQuery Autocomplete CSS not working?

    I am trying to implement JQuery Autocomplete pluggi using Django. I've been able to wire the thing together and I can actually see the result back in the HTML template. My problem is that the JQuery Autocomplete CSS doesn't seem to work. The results I get are not well formatted/styled, and they have no background and you cannot even select them. What is it that am missing? I have these three files in my media folder same folder: autocomplete.js dimensions.js autocomplete.css In my html template I have the following function: $(function(){ setAutoComplete("tags", "tagResults", "/taglookup/?query="); }); My textfield looks like this; <input type="text" name="tags" value=""> Where do I put the tagResults in my HTML template document? Every time I try to introduce a DIV with id="tagResults", JQuery throws an error. Any ideas?

  • Where can I find a proper JavaScript beautifier

    I have used http://jsbeautifier.org/ successfully using Rhino and ant, but the problem is that it is not deterministic. If you run the beautifier twice on a file the result is different from each time, e.g. each pass inserts additional array intendation on some lines. I have spent a lot of time debugging the code in beautify.js and have made some workarounds for comment handling, but the array indentation bug is annoying. Is there a correct and properly working JS code formatter anywhere that can be used as part of a source code indentation verification system? EDIT I have now tested with preserve-array-formating disabled, and it seems that it solves the problem. Too bad, since preserve-array-formating is quite useful with large array constructs.

    Hello, I'm very new to the JavaScript library world. I have used JS by itself before to create a mini social network but this is the first time I use a JS library and I really don't know how to go about this. I'm planning to use Google Closure and I'm really not sure how I should go about organizing the code. Should I put everything in one file since it's a web app and should have one screen? Should I separate the code to many chunks and put them in different files? Or should I put different dialogs (like settings) in a separate page and thus a separate file? Like all programmers I'm a perfectionist so please help me out with this one, thanks.

This only happens in firefox (and maybe other browsers) but the code works fine in IE8. I have codes like this in jquery: $("#Logout").live("click", function (e) { e.preventDefault(e); $.post("/logout.php", {}, function () { //--a bunch of animations--// window.location = "/login.php"; } }); I have no idea whats wrong as even the error message is not helpful at all.. inside logout.php: <?php session_start(); session_destroy(); ?> Also dont work if I used GET or inserted phantom data. Or is there a more elegant way to do this?

  • Navigation bar(s) disappear when the window gets too small

    The title maybe is a little misleading but I'm not 100% sure how this effect is called. I'm pretty sure what I meant is that my navigation bar is disappearing instead of collapsing. However my set up is this - I am working on the Layout view of ASP.NET MVC 4 project. I'm using bootstrap 3x but also have included jQuery libs so my <head> part is like this: @Scripts.Render("~/Scripts/bootstrap.min.js") @Styles.Render("~/Content/bootstrap.css") @Styles.Render("~/Content/themes/base/jquery.ui.smoothness.css") @Scripts.Render("~/Scripts/jquery-2.0.3.min.js") @Scripts.Render("~/Scripts/jquery-ui-1.10.3.min.js") //just skipped the standard stuff In the body I want to have two navbars and one side menu which will be the same for all my pages but I've noticed that when I start to narrow the window at some point instead of getting an effect similar to this example (noticed how the elements get repositioned) I just got both my navbars gone, I can't see them. The markup for my first navbar is this : <div class="navbar navbar-static-top navbar-inverse navbar-collapse collapse" role="navigation"> <ul class="nav navbar-nav "> <li><a href="#">Info</a></li> <li><a href="#">Info</a></li> </ul> </div> and the second one is : <div class="navbar navbar-collapse collapse" role="navigation" id="main-navigation-bar"> <ul class="nav nav-pills nav-justified"> <li style="border: 1px solid grey"><a href="#">Link</a></li> <li><a href="#">Link</a></li> <li><a href="#">Link</a></li> </ul> In fact the only thing left in my _Layout body is this: <div class="container-fluid"> @RenderBody() </div> which is just for compiling purposes and renders this view : <p>1</p> <p>2</p> <p>3</p> <p>4</p> <p>5</p> So when I make the window small enough so that my navbars disappear the only thing left is 1..5 numbers from the rendered view. I tested with only one navbar (commented the other) - no matter which one is commented, when I narrow the window I loose the navbar. How can I keep them using bootstrap 3x?

    The generally accepted answer is that you can't. However there is mounting evidence that this is not true based on the existence of projects that read in types of data that are not basic HTML types. Some projects that do this are the JavaScript version of ProtoBuf and Smokescreen. Smokescreen is a flash interpreter written in JS so if it is not possible to get at the bytes directly how are these projects working around this? The source to Smokescreen can be found here. I have looked it over but with JS not being my primary language right now the solution eludes me.

  • Site images don't refresh after setting expired headers on .htaccess

    I have a site that uses a CSS sprite for all the images. I set the .htaccess file to set the expired headers to a future time as they recommend to improve site performance. However, when I updated the sprite image none of my browsers on two different computers seem to fetch the new image. I deleted the .htaccess serveral times but no luck. I am sure this must be easy as pie to fix but right now I am out of options.   • changing src reference based upon https

    I'm adding a facebook comment widget to a website. I'm placing this widget in a file that is included on everypage. The navigation is relatively linked so it switches back and forth from http and https. But for some reason the comment widget only shows up if both the src linked file and webpage is secure or both the src linked file and webpage is NOT secure. The widget does not display of the src file is secure and the webpage is not secure. So...   • Decrease the load time for Mobile Version Rails Site

    I have been working on the mobile version of my rails application.I am using the approach of using the same controller and rendering a mobile view when the request is from a mobile device. I am using jquery mobile in mobile views. For mobile views I did not use any layout for the views because it is the same as loading the required files in each view. In this approach, Every request essentially loads all of the required js,css files which i feel is making the mobile site to load slowly. How could i make my views to load the js and css files just once? Thanks, Ramoji.

  • PHP - Concatenating objects and casting to string - bad idea?

    Is it bad practice to concatenate objects when used in this context: $this->template->head .= new View('custom_javascript') This is the way i normally add extra css/js stuff to specific pages. I use an MVC structure where my basic html template has a $head variable which I set in my main Website_controller. I have used this approach for a while as it means I can just add bits and pieces of css/js stuff from whichever page/controller needs it. But having come across a problem in PHP 5.1.6 where the above code results in "Object ID #24", the result of toString() not being called i think, I am rethinking whether i should just fix this to work in PHP 5.1.6 or if i should rethink this approach in general. Any pointers appreciated!

  • Scroll event of jquery is not working in IE 7 with IE 7 standard but works in IE8,9

    I have an example below which has a terms div which has some terms and conditions as content. When the user scroll the div to bottom, then the checkbox is enabled. This is only not working only in IE 7 with IE 7/8/9 standards (I am changing the standard options from Developer window).   • How to Properly Reference a JavaScript File in an ASP.NET Project?

    Hi Guys I have some pages that reference javascript files. The application exists locally in a Virtual Directory, i.e. http://localhost/MyVirtualDirectory/MyPage.aspx so locally I reference the files as follows: <script src="/MyVirtualDirectory/Scripts/MyScript.js" type="text/javascript"></script> The production setup is different though. The application exists as its own web site in production, so I don't need to include the reference to the virtual directory. The problem with this is that I need to modify every file that contains a javascript reference so it looks like the following: <script src="../Scripts/MyScript.js" type="text/javascript"></script> I've tried referencing the files this way in my local setup but it doesn't work. Am I going about this completely wrong? Can somebody tell me what I need to do? Thanks

  • Javascript Grid that can handle sections in a table

    I am making an ASP.NET MVC application that lets a user design a questionnaire that other users can fill out. Now, questionnaires, rather than just having a list of questions, often have sections or subsections that could have headings and not the other columns that an ordinary row (a question) would have. I want a JS Grid that can handle sections and subsections elegantly. I tried using JQGrid, but there the options I have are limited to a "Grid as Subgrid" structure. The appearance becomes quite complex and unlike a questionnaire. Is there a Javascript Grid or a JQuery plugin that can handle this? I can write my own HTML table as long as the JS app will format the table and will add some user-friendliness to the table.

  • Fixing javascript Array functions in Internet Explorer (indexOf, forEach, etc)

    As detailed elsewhere, and otherwise apparently well-known, Internet Explorer (definitely 7, and in some instances, 8) do not implement key functions, in particular on Array (such as forEach, indexOf, etc). There are a number of workarounds here and there, but I'd like to fold a proper, canonical set of implementations into our site rather than copy and paste or hack away at our own implementations. I've found js-methods, which looks promising, but thought I'd post here to see whether another library comes more highly-recommended. A couple of misc. criteria: the lib should just be a no-op for those functions that a browser already has implementations for (js-methods appears to do quite well here) non-GPL, please, though LGPL is acceptable

  • How to preload local javascript everytime a new tab or page is opened?

    I would like to autoload a local javascript file, everytime a new page/tab is opened in a browser. I tried the bookmarklet approach, but it gets tiresome as the button needs to be pressed everytime a new page/tab is opened. Chrome extensions also seem to work along the same lines (where you have to press an icon to run the js). Googling for javascript and preload seems to return everything except what I am looking for. Is there a browser indepent way of autoloading (no user action required) a local js file? If not, any browser specific info to do this would be appreciated (even if they mean reducing security by turning off required options). Thanks!

    Friends, I am willing to follow the rules of the W3C where it is recommended that javascript and CSS files should be in individual files and not within the page. Good, following this rule, and not wanting to overload the master page, I would like to embed the dependencies dynamically. So how could I insert the libraries dynamically? I think the bigger problem is the Ajax requests. Example: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://sstatic.net/so/js/master.js?v=6523"></script> I tried using the JavascriptResult, but he writes the content on the page, and do not run as "Stream."     You can use the URL helper in Code Igniter to load CSS and Javascript with the base_url() method, but what if you have images dynamically being placed into your HTML via javascript? for example in my javascript file I've got var arrowimages={down:['downarrowclass', 'images/down.png', 23], right:['rightarrowclass', 'images/right.png']} and those images will be placed into whatever menu item I've specified has a drop down menu. but that file is a .js file so obviously the server won't load php inside of it. so, how can I set the base url for the JS?   • Where do I put the links to my Javascript/jQuery files in my html file?

    I recently noticed that some (not all) of my javascript and jQuery scripts wouldn't work unless I put the link for the .js files nearer towards the bottom of the page instead of the head area where I put my links for my .css files. From what I understand, javascript can go in either places and it is recommended to not be put in the header as it slows down the page loading process as well. At the same time, if I put it in the body tag of the html file, it looks somewhat messy and was wondering what the best practice is for putting .js files in a cleanly place. Should I always put it at the very bottom right before the ending body tag? How do professional web developers handle this?
