  • Binning a numeric variable in R

    I have a vector X that contains positive numbers that I want to bin/discretize. For this vector, I want the numbers [0, 10) to show up just as they exist in the vector, but numbers [10,∞) to be 10+. I'm using: x <- c(0,1,3,4,2,4,2,5,43,432,34,2,34,2,342,3,4,2) binned.x <- as.factor(ifelse(x > 10,"10+",x)) but this feels klugey to me. Does anyone know a better solution or a different approach? mcpeterson

I must be missing something any help really appreciated.

  • Image through Script, How to add variable to URL

    I'm sure it's pretty straightforward since someone just solved a similar problem I had. I have a folder full of city images and need users to see the image corresponding to their city. Right now I'm getting the users location without problem using "geoip_city()" but I don't quite know how to integrate it into the URL of the image. All images have the following format: New York.jpg, Boston.jpg so I just need to make the script put the location before .jpg This is what I'm trying now: <img src="blank.png" id="image" > <script type="text/javascript"> document.getElementById('image').src = "Imagenes/grupos/' + geoip_city() + '.jpg"; </script> I believe I'm just messing with the quotes or something similar.   • Using diff and patch to force one local code base to look like another

    I've noticed this strange behavior of diff and patch when I've used them to force one code base to be identical to another. Let's say I want to update update_me to look identical to leave_unchanged. I go to update_me. I run a diff from leave_unchanged to update_me. Then I patch the diff into update_me. If there are new files in leave_unchanged, patch asks me if my patch was reversed! If I answer yes, it deletes the new files in leave_unchanged. Then, if I simply re-run the patch, it correctly patches update_me. Why does patch try to modify both leave_unchanged and update_me? What's the proper way to do this? I found a hacky way which is to replace all +++ lines with nonsense paths so patch can't find leave_unchanged. Then it works fine.   • savedInstanceState cannot be resolved to a variable

    I'm currently working through "The Android Developers Cookbook" and one of the tutorials involves multiple activities in an app. To give a bit of background right now I have to .java files, a "menu screen" and a "game screen". The menu screen simply has a button that leads to the game screen which is currently empty except for a button that takes you back to the menu screen. Currently the game.java file is giving me a "savedInstanceState error" this is the code I am working on. public void onCreate(Bundle savedInsanceState) { // below is where the error comes up super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.game); Button startButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.end_game); startButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View view) { finish(); } }); } I'm not sure why the error is coming up because on the first java file that same "public void...setContentView..." bit of code compiled perfectly fine... Please help!

    Is it possible to allocate locally-scoped memory in assembly? For example, consider the following (completely contrived) situation: I have two macros, one of which is dependent on the other. The first is: minimum MACRO dest, num1, num2 ; Finds the minimum of two unsigned numbers, stores the result in dest And the second is: tripMin MACRO dest, num1, num2, num3 ; Finds the minimum of three unsigned numbers, stores the result in dest minimum firstMin, num1, num2 minimum secondMin, num2, num3 minimum dest, firstMin, secondMin (I know that this isn't a realistic example for a variety of reasons, but bear with me.) Assuming that all the registers are otherwise occupied, is there any way to declare firstMin and secondMin locally within the macro? Or am I just better off freeing a register by pushing its value onto the stack and popping it back when I'm done?

    Hi, I don't know much about delphi win 32 programming, but I hope someone can answer my question. I get duplicate l_sGetUniqueIdBuffer saved into the database which I want to avoid. The l_sGetUniqueIdBuffer is actually different ( the value of l_sAuthorisationContent is xml, and I can see a different value generated by the call to getUniqueId) between rows. This problem is intermittant ( duplicates are rare...) There is only milliseconds difference between the update date between the rows. However, I don't know how to do it. With call_user_func, you can call functions with an array of arguments, but how would you call a constructor from it? I can't just pass the array of arguments to it; it must believe I've called it "normally". Thank you!

    in the form action i have the following line\ <form action="{URL}" method="post" target="_self" id="xxx" name="xxx"> when rendered in the browser it becomes action="/abc/17224_pb/HTTP/index.php" this is just HTML. I cannot see anywhere the {URL} has been defined and anyway you cannot have variables in HTML (can you?) i thought it might be jquery but it would need to be in a script ?? Where does it come from? How is it defined? This code is not really in a framework but we do have some Zend framework code around.

    Hello, I am new to writing SQL and would greatly appreciate help on this problem. :) I am trying to select an entire row into a string, preferably separated by a space or a comma. I would like to accomplish this in a generic way, without having to know specifics about the columns in the tables. What I would love to do is this: DECLARE @MyStringVar NVARCHAR(MAX) = '' @MyStringVar = SELECT * FROM MyTable WHERE ID = @ID AS STRING But what I ended up doing was this: DECLARE @MyStringVar = '' DECLARE @SecificField1 INT DECLARE @SpecificField2 NVARCHAR(255) DECLARE @SpecificField3 NVARCHAR(1000) ... SELECT @SpecificField1 = Field1, @SpecificField2 = Field2, @SpecificField3 = Field3 FROM MyTable WHERE ID = @ID SELECT @StringBuilder = @StringBuilder + CONVERT(nvarchar(10), @Field1) + ' ' + @Field2 + ' ' + @Field3 Yuck. :( I have seen some people post stuff about the COALESCE function, but again, I haven't seen anyone use it without specific column names. Also, I was thinking, perhaps there is a way to use the column names dynamically getting them by: SELECT [COLUMN_NAME] FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'MyTable' It really doesn't seem like this should be so complicated. :( What I did works for now, but thanks ahead of time to anyone who can point me to a better solution. :) EDIT: Got it fixed, thanks to everyone who answered. :)

  • GIT clone repo across local file system

    Hi all, I am a complete Noob when it comes to GIT. I have been just taking my first steps over the last few days. I setup a repo on my laptop, pulled down the Trunk from an SVN project (had some issues with branches, not got them working), but all seems ok there. I now want to be able to pull or push from the laptop to my main desktop. The reason being the laptop is handy on the train as I spend 2 hours a day travelling and can get some good work done. But my main machine at home is great for development. So I want to be able to push / pull from the laptop to the main computer when I get home. I thought the most simple way of doing this would be to just have the code folder shared out across the LAN and do: git clone file://192.168.10.51/code unfortunately this doesn't seem to be working for me: so I open a git bash cmd and type the above command, I am in C:\code (the shared folder for both machines) this is what I get back: Initialized empty Git repository in C:/code/code/.git/ fatal: 'C:/Program Files (x86)/Git/code' does not appear to be a git repository fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly How can I share the repository between the two machines in the most simple of ways. There will be other locations that will be official storage points and places where the other devs and CI server etc will pull from, this is just so that I can work on the same repo across two machines. Verification has to happen for max N times with each T intervals for all orders. if verification successful for all the order before N retry then fine.. otherwise we need to indicate as verification unsuccessfull. i hv done a basic coding done in very urgent like below for( N times ) { for_each ( sent_request_order ) // SENT { 1) get all the refreshed order from DB or shared mem i.e REFRESHED 2) find current sent order in REFRESHED if( not_found ) not refreshed from exchange, continue to next order if( found ) case NEW : //check for new status, mark verification done case MODIFY : //check for modified status.. //if not mark pending, go to next order, //revisit the same after T time case CANCEL : //check for cancelled status.. //if not mark pending, go to next order, //revisit the same after T time } if( all_verified ) exit from verification. wait ( T sec ) } order_verification_pending, order_verification_done, order_visited, order_not_visited, all_verified, all_not_verified ... lot of boolean flags used for indication.. is there any better approach for doing this.... splitting responsibilities across the classes......???? i know this is not a general question.... but still flags are making me tidious to handle...

I want to be able to create my instance of TPrinter and print using that one. I tried with: MyPrinter := TPrinter.Create; MyPrinter.BeginDoc; but this generates AV.
