    I'm running a cron job (every 15 minutes) which takes about a minute to execute. It makes lots of API calls and stores data to the database. Right now I create a mysql connection at the beginning and use the same connection through out the code. Most of the time is spent making the API calls. Will it be more efficient to create a new database connection only when it's time to store the data (below)?   • Modulation of adding new Strings -> Method calls.

    If I have a program that does the following: if(input=='abc'){do x} if(input=='def'){do y} In the future, I may want to add another piece of code like so: if(input=='ghy'){do x} As you can see, I am adding a new 'if' statement for a different conditional BUT using the SAME function X. The code in future has potential to have lots of different IF statements (or switches) all of which are comparing a string vs a string and then performing a function. Considering the future expansion, I was wondering if there is a possible 'neater', 'modular' way of achieving the same results. It's a shame I can't combine the String with a Method call in a hashtable (String, method) in Java. That way I could just store any new procedures inside a hashtable and grab the relevant method for that String. Any ideas? Thank you

    I don't know how to search about this so I'm kinda lost (the two topics I saw here were closed). I have a news website and I want to warn the user when a new data is inserted on the database. I want to do that like here on StackOverflow where we are warned without reloading the page or like in facebook where you are warned about new messages/notifications without reloading. Which is the best way to do that? Is it some kind of listener with a timeout that is constantly checking the database? It doesn't sounds efficient... Thanks in advance.

    Hi, so I know there are tons of ways to simulate inheritance and other OO features. I have chosen one to use for my project and am wondering if I can create an instance and add stuff to it and keep it contained (within braces). Consider the following: function BaseClass(){ <this.stuff here> } function SubClass(){ this.superClass = BaseClass(); this.superClass(); <this.other stuff here> } myObj = new SubClass(); so myObj is an instance of SubClass. I can add things to myObj like: myObj.blah = "funtimes"; What I would like is to be able to add stuff to the "instance" and keep it organized in braces much like the constructor. psuedo code like: myObj = new SubClass() { var blah = "funtimes" <more instance specific stuff here> } Is something like this possible? I tried to copy only the new records from the remote_table by this query: SELECT * FROM [remote_DB].[LudanProjectManager].[dbo].Remote_table EXCEPT SELECT * FROM My_table It works OK but I get a duplicate primary key exception when changes have been made on the remote_table on the hours column. Can anyone think of a way to copy only the new records from remote_table and if changes has been made on old records, to identify them and update the my_table to correspond?

  • C++ new line not translating

    First off, I'm a complete beginner at C++. I'm coding something using an API, and would like to pass text containing new lines to it, and have it print out the new lines at the other end. If I hardcode whatever I want it to print out, like so printInApp("Hello\nWorld"); it does come out as separate lines in the other end, but if I retrieve the text from the app using a method that returns a const char then pass it straight to printInApp (which takes const char as argument), it comes out as a single line. Why's this and how would I go about to fix it?

    I am having a find a replace in a bunch of RTF documents, The basic pattern I need is \{(?:\\\*)?\\field\\fldlock\{\\\*\\fldinst ?MERGEFIELD ?((?:\\.*?)?[\w\[\]]+?)(?:\\.*?)?\}(?:\{\\fldrslt\})?\} However I then found out there could potentialy be a newline before each slash, so it turned in to this. \{(?:\s*\\\*)?\s*\\field\s*\\fldlock\s*\{\s*\\\*\s*\\fldinst\s*MERGEFIELD\s*((?:\\.*?)?[\w\[\]]+?(?:\s*\\.*?)?)?\s*\}(?:\s*\{\s*\\fldrslt\s*\})?\s*\} But then I hit this it fails fees totaling $\protect {\field\fldlock{\*\fldinst MERGEFIELD ENTEROUTSTANDINGVETERINARYF EES}}\plain\f0\fs24\prot Is there way have to have it match a new line anywhere in the search too without adding (?:\r?\n)? everywhere? EDIT To clear up confusion on the new lines. I need to keep the newlines in the document, I only want to remove the newlines if they are inside my match, so in the final example I posted it should replace fees totaling $\protect {\field\fldlock{\*\fldinst MERGEFIELD ENTEROUTSTANDINGVETERINARYF EES}}\plain\f0\fs24\prot with fees totaling $\protect ENTEROUTSTANDINGVETERINARYFEES\plain\f0\fs24\prot

    In some JavaScript code snippets (e.g. http://mckoss.com/jscript/object.htm) I have seen objects being created in this way: var obj = new Foo; However, at least at MDC, it seems that the parentheses are not optional when creating an object: var obj = new Foo(); Is the former way of creating objects valid and defined in the ECMA standard? Are there any differences between the former way of creating objects and the later? Is one preferred over the other? Thanks in advance.

In my application, I am binding some objects to sessions like the following code -- HttpSession session = p_req.getSession(); session.setAttribute(DOWNLOAD_With_WARNINGS, downloadMap); Later I am retrieving them using session.getAttribute. I would like to know if every time I open a new browser does it open a new HTTP session. Because , if I do a setAttribute with some value in one browser instance, that change is visible when I do a getAttribute using the other browser instance.

    I am a little confused about the auto-increment id field in rails. I have a rails project with a simple schema. When i check the development.sqlite3 I can see that all of my tables have an id field with auto increment. CREATE TABLE "messages" ("id" INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT NOT NULL, "text" text, "created_at" datetime, "updated_at" datetime); but when i call Message.new on the console, the resulting object has an id of nil >> a = Message.new => #<Message id: nil, text: nil, created_at: nil, updated_at: nil> shouldn't the id come back populated?

However, if I bind a button to the array controller's add: input and click it during runtime (this adds a new object to the array and table) then the table will show the new object first, with the objects added during applicationDidFinishLaunching following it. Why does this happen? And is there a way to make my table populate without having to add an element first?

  • On saving a new record an associated id changes to 9 figure number

    Hi, I have a table of venues, with each venue belonging to an area and a type. I recently dropped the table and added to it some addressline fields. I have re-migrated it but now the area_id field saves as a random? 9 figure number. Both the area_id and venuetype_id integers are created in the same way from the create new form and the venuetype_id saves as normal but not the area_id. Can anyone offer any help? whats shown in the console => [#<Venue id: 4, name: "sdf", addressline1: "", addressline2: "", addressline3 : "", addressline4: "", icontoppx: 234, iconleftpx: 234, area_id: 946717224, ven uetype_id: 8, created_at: "2011-03-17", updated_at: "2011-03-17 23:33:53">] irb(main):030:0> the area_id should be 8 in the above example. Let's suppose we have : A: public class MyDict { public Dictionary<int,string> dict; // do custom-serialization of "dict" public void SaveToFile(...); // customized deserialization of "dict" public void LoadFromFile(...); } B: public class MyDict : Dictionary<int,string> { } Which option would be better in the matter of programming style ? class B: is to be de/serialized externally. Main problem is : is it better to create new class (which would have only one property - like opt A:) or to create a new class derived - like opt B: ? I don't want any other data processing than adding/removing and de/serializing to stream. Thanks in advance!

Every time I create an object I should give it from the already allocated memory say, 1]20 2]12 3]15 4]6 5]23 respectively. which ever minimum amount fits to the objects size(eg.21) I wanted to do it for different object types, so I need to write the overloaded operator new to be common functionality for all the class objects. Can I do it through friend functions, or is there any possible way to do it.

  • index was outside the bounds of the array because of \n (new line) in richTextBox

    If i go into the next line with richTextBox1.Text + "\n" you can't use richTextBox with anything anymore normally. Why not ? because index will be outside the bounds of the array and you won't be able to transport the data into database or work with it normally...it will be all messed up. It is like the story with cin and getline in C++, but much worse. Here you won't see errors, not until you'll try to transport it into database. If you use "\n" to write new lines into txt, your txt will be also unusable. It will look like up to the byte the same as if you would write it by hand same sentences but "\n" will fuck it up. So how do i go into the next line and not have this "\n" screwing up my program ??! How do i go into the new line ?

  • New replicaset resident memory is larger than the existing sets

    From the mongodb tutorial of how to resync a set, I wipe all the files in /data/db and restart the mongod process to resync the data. Everything looks ok, I get the same number of documents as the existing two sets(primary and one secondary). However, when I check the memory on MMS. it shows me my new resynced set/mongod process has a different memory status value than the other two. For existing twos using db.serverStatus.mem shows like the following: "mem" : { "bits" : 64, "resident" : 239, "virtual" : 66348, "supported" : true, "mapped" : 32865, "mappedWithJournal" : 65730 } however, the new resynced set shows like: "mem" : { "bits" : 64, "resident" : 1239, "virtual" : 52447, "supported" : true, "mapped" : 25700, "mappedWithJournal" : 51400 } the resynced resident memory is 6-10 times more than the existing ones. I wouder if it is normal because all data comes in suddenly during the resyncing?? and even virtual and mapped value are different too. Can anyone explain?? thanks
