  • Print each bookmark of a PDF separately

    I have a very large (1000 page) PDF which contains about 100, ten page each documents one after the other. I would like to have them sent to my office printer as individual files so my office printer will print them double sided and staple each one individually. I'm using Adobe Acrobat X and think the first step is to bookmark the start of each of those 100 documents. I don't know the next step though. I also have a batch printing program so if i can extract each of those 100 bookmarks to individual files that would work too. Thanks for all the help.

    I need a way to automate the following process in Windows 7: Open an .html file in Internet Explorer Print to PDF Save the PDF with a patterned file name (i.e., original_name_YYYY-MM-DD.pdf) Ideally, I could drag and drop several files or open a whole folder of files at once and a PDF would be created for each one. A command line solution is also acceptable. The files have to be opened in the browser because parts of the page are rendered with JavaScript on page load. In other words, if you simply right-click on the file in Explorer and choose "print", the resulting file is not the same because the JS didn't run. If it helps, Internet Explorer can be set as the default browser, and a PDF printer can be set as the default printer.

  • Fastest Method to Learn Web Design for a Developer

    I am a Web developer and in my projects I have noticed that my weakest point is not being good at the front-end design. Relying on other designers can be annoying if they are not able to produce as quickly as I want. My perspective on HTML/CSS is that it is basically a big hack that amazingly works. There are too many CSS and browser specific bugs/quirks to learn and remember them all without spending extreme amounts of time trying to untangle everything. Is there a fast track route to getting CSS into my brain? I have looked at some CSS books, but to me they really read as long lists of how to render things correctly in IE6 and how to make corners rounded. (Seriously why does it require so many tricks to make a sharp corner round? On any platform but the Web this would be called a major oversight.) Does there exist something that does the analogous to CSS that jQuery does for JavaScript? Using jQuery you don't need to know JavaScript well to make things that work. I am not interested in learning why IE6 does things in weird ways because I don't care about supporting it at all. I am more interested in a method of learning how to use CSS to do what I want without spending hours and hours reading obscure blogs.

    It seems to be the general opinion that tables should not be used for layout in HTML. Why? I have never (or rarely to be honest) seen good arguments for this. The usual answers are: It's good to separate content from layoutBut this is a fallacious argument; Cliche Thinking. I guess it's true that using the table element for layout has little to do with tabular data. So what? Does my boss care? Do my users care?Perhaps me or my fellow developers who have to maintain a web page care... Is a table less maintainable? I think using a table is easier than using divs and CSS.By the way... why is using a div or a span good separation of content from layout and a table not? Getting a good layout with only divs often requires a lot of nested divs. Readability of the codeI think it's the other way around. Most people understand html, few understand CSS. It's better for SEO not to use tablesWhy? Can anybody show some evidence that it is? Or a statement from Google that tables are discouraged from an SEO perspective? Tables are slower.An extra tbody element has to be inserted. This is peanuts for modern web browsers. Show me some benchmarks where the use of a table significantly slows down a page. A layout overhaul is easier without tables, see css Zen Garden.Most web sites that need an upgrade need new content (html) as well. Scenarios where a new version of a web site only needs a new CSS file are not very likely. Zen Garden is a nice web site, but a bit theoretical. Not to mention its misuse of CSS. I am really interested in good arguments to use divs + CSS instead of tables.

Now i would like to change these old tabs to Microsoft tab structures just by using CSS if possible as we have done above for YUI. Is that possible to do that using CSS/file? How it can be done for Microsofts tab?

  • JSF h:outputStylesheet doesn't work everywhere

    I'm currently learning Icefaces, now I'm trying to integrate a css file via h:OutputStylesheet into my code. I have a main page and a second page. Using outputStylesheet in my main page works well (and then I can also access the css in the second page, which I guess is intended). But when I try to integrate it in my second page it doesn't work at all. The code for both pages is basically identical. main page: <h:head></h:head> <h:body> <!-- this line works --> <h:outputStylesheet library="css" name="style.css" /> <!-- this line is only shown in red if the outputStylesheet from above is there --> <div class="red">This is red color in main page</div> </h:body> second page: <h:head></h:head> <h:body> <!-- this line doesn't work --> <h:outputStylesheet library="css" name="style.css" /> <!-- this line is only shown in red if the outputStylesheet in main page is there --> <div class="red">This is red color in second page</div> </h:body> I've made sure that I have h:body and h:head tags in both files. There's nothing more in the html pages except the standard doctype and xml version declarations. I've tried packing everything into h:forms, but that doesn't change anything. Can anyone explain to me what's going on?

I would also like to see how it then works into your master pages.   • Properly registering JavaScript and CSS in MVC 2 Editor Templates

    How do I properly register javascript blocks in an ASP.NET MVC 2 (RTM) Editor template? The specific scenario I'm in is that I want to use Dynarch JSCal2 DateTimePicker for my standard datetime picker, but this question is in general to any reusable javascript package. I have my template working properly now but it has my JS and CSS includes in my master page and I would rather only include these things if I actually need them: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="../../Content/JSCal2-1.7/jscal2.css" /> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="../../Content/JSCal2-1.7/border-radius.css" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="../../Scripts/JSCal2-1.7/jscal2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="../../Scripts/JSCal2-1.7/lang/en.js"></script> So obviously I could just put these lines into my template, but then if I have a screen that has 5 DateTimePickers, then this content would be duplicated 5 times which wouldn't be ideal. Anyways, I still want my View's Template to trigger this code being put into the <head> of my page.     I am using WPF and the DocumentViewer to display a document. However, when I use DocumentViewerBase.Print, it gives the "standard" Windows dialog box asking me to choose a printer with the default already selected. How can I get rid of this? I just want to use a Print method that will automatically start printing with no other prompt in between.

So, why does this work $('#con div').css( { top : function(i) { console.log(i); return (i * 500) + 'px'; } } ); and this doesn't? $('#con div').animate( { top : function(i) { console.log(i); return (i * 500) + 'px'; } } ); The console shows that the function is being evaluated for css, but not for animate. Am I missing something? By the way, I'm using 1.4.2.

    Hello, Got nothing better to do this Christmas holiday, so I decided to try out making a binary search tree. I'm stuck with the print function. How should the logic behind it work? Since the tree is already inserting it in a somewhat sorted order, and I want to print the tree from smallest values to the biggest. So I need to travel to the furthest left branch of the tree to print the first value. Right, so after that how do I remember the way back up, do I need to save the previous node? A search in wikipedia gave me an solution which they used stack. And other solutions I couldn't quite understand how they've made it, so I'm asking here instead hoping someone can enlight me. I also wonder my insert function is OK.
