• AS3 Components in Flash Designer

  In an ActionScript 2 project I can create a new MovieClip, right-click on it on the library and select "Component Definition" to add parameters that can be referenced inside the MovieClip. This parameters can be easily changed in the MovieClips's properties. Now, I'm working on an ActionScript 3 project but haven't been able to figure out a way to obtain the values passed in those parameters. I defined a parameter named "textToDisplay" but when I write the following in the Actions for the first frame I get an error: trace(textToDisplay); This is the error: 1120: Access of undefined property textToDisplay. Do you know how to capture the value of that parameter? Thanks PS: I'm using Adobe Flash CS3 Professional on Windows XP

• C: Recursive function for inverting an int

  I had this problem on an exam yesterday. I couldn't resolve it so you can imagine the result... Make a recursive function: int invertint( int num) that will receive an integer and return it but inverted, example: 321 would return as 123 I wrote this: int invertint( int num ) { int rest = num % 10; int div = num / 10; if( div == 0 ) { return( rest ); } return( rest * 10 + invert( div ) ) } Worked for 2 digits numbers but not for 3 digits or more. Since 321 would return 1 * 10 + 23 in the last stage. Thanks a lot! PS: Is there a way to understand these kind of recursion problems in a faster manner or it's up to imagination of one self?

• django - change content inside an iframe

  Hello guys, I have a site running in django and want to make it available on third party sites. In these sites they make my content available through an tag. When my site is requested from within that iframe I would like to modify the content (remove header, filter data, etc.). What would be the best way to do this? Is there any way of knowing that the request is being made from an iframe? Multiples sites will request the same url, can I change the content, based on the requesting site? Thanks! • Is it possible to remove all event handlers of a given element in javascript?

  Hi, I would like to remove ALL handlers for a given event type. Let's say I've added twice "onclick event" to a button and now I would like to return back to the original state where no event handler was set to the button. How can I do that? P.S.: I've found removeEventListener (non-IE)/detachEvent (IE) methods but the functions want me to pass as a parameter the function that handles the event which seems to me quite clumsy because I would have to store the functions somewhere. • FTP - way to programatically determine time remaining or bytes transfered?

  Hi all I want to make an FTP connection (ideally using Coldfusion 8, but Java is fine too) that will copy a file to a remote server. Crucially however, I want to know how many bytes have been transferred so I can give some feedback to the user. Is this possible, and if so what FTP API would you recommend as I understand the Sun implementation may be a bit lacking. Thanks in advance! PS: I could have another process/thread poll the file size on the destination machine via a web service call while the file is being transferred but it's not ideal. Getting it through FTP API would be the neatest solution.

• Get the size of a Silverlight window

  Hey! I'm creating a Silverlight 4 Out Of Browser application. I have my MainPage that will be the "central" application. I want to be able to display another Control next to the MainPage, by using a Popup and I want it to be displayed right next to the MainPage. How can I get the coordinates of the upper right corner of the MainPage at each moment? (Beware that this MainPage can be moved all over the screen and hence I will need to dynamically get the corner coordinates, in order to display my popup right next to the main window).   I am working on unix. I want to knwo the current cpu usage of a process. I understood that ps give the average of cpu used till the process is up - it is not the current usage. Is there a way to print only the cpu from the top command without 10 more parameters and headers? I know how to do it with awk - this is not the way i want to do it. top -p 20705 -bc -n 1 | tail -n 2 | awk '{ print $9}' | head -n 1 If there is another simple way to do it, not reading /proc/stat... If there is a simple way doing it from c++, it is also ok.

• Is this the way I should deploy a asp.net application

  I have a solution containing asp.net project class library WCF service class library WCF service application I've added a project refference from the asp.net project to the class library project and to the service class library project. I've published the asp.net application, loaded it to the webserver root. all ok. Now for the service, I've created a new folder on the root called WCF, and placed the aplication in there. Is this The way I should deploy the sollution? Are this the steps when you have more than a simple asp.net application? • Freelancer - client agreement. What things are worth to write explicitely?

  Hi guys, This is not technical question, though I think it is quite important for software developers who work as a freelancers. There is some general good advice to make paper contracts before starting new jobs. When I started my work as a freelancer I hadn't got any clue how such contract should looks like. Now I have some ideas but I believe many of freelancers gathered on SO can add some interesting advices for less-experienced colleagues (like me). So the question is: what clauses freelancers should put on agreements with their clients to make their projects less stressful and better secured. What are your experiences here? PS: Please write your country on the bottom of your post - I guess some stuff might be country specific. Probably there are differences in form of agreements depending on country where business is made.

  I have 2 mysql tables 1. questions: with the following columns: id, title, answer1, answer2, answer3, answer4, answer5, nranswers. and 2. answers with the following columns: id, questionid, userid, answer Every question has maximum 5 answers( it can have between 2 and 5 answers). My problem is that I want to select from my database, for a given question, how many times was every option selected. For example, let's suppose I have the question with the id 46, with 4 answers, and 48 users voted for the option #2, 37 users for the option #1 and 39 for the option #4. I want a query that selects that and write these things: 1 37 2 48 3 0 4 39 P.S. VERY IMPORTANT! IT MUST COUNT ONLY NRANSWERS ANSWERS, AND IT MUST ECHO THE ONES THAT WEREN'T VOTED BEFORE.

• How to avoid recursion in Java SecurityManager checkConnect?

  I'm trying to take control of a Java code base that does lots of un-documented things. I'm using a custom SecurityManager to check permission requests. Specifically, my code is checking SocketPermission checks -- checkConnect. checkConnect is called when the application tries to resolve a host name to IP address and to connect to a specific IP address. The problem is that I don't know how to properly call host name resolution (InetAddress.getAddressByName) without falling into infinite recursion, because normally checkConnect is called even when I resolve the name from inside the SecurityManager.checkConnect. I have read on the web that I have to call the address resolution from a doPrivileged block, but no idea how. P.S. Is this possible without writing any policy files?

• Reporting Services URL parameter problems

  I have an URL to a location on the server where it can find teh report. The report works just fine if i manually refresh it. I tried using rc:ClearSession=TRUE and i also tried sending a random parameter, but the report is still not being refreshed. Any ideas? The main scenario: User eneters the page(with a grid view) User clicks on Export User sees the Report User deletes an entry from the page - grid view User clicks on Export again User sees the exact same report P.S. : The report query returns the data that should be displayed but the report returns the previous data.

  I have a table with many fields and additionally several boolean fields (ex: BField1, BField2, BField3 etc.). I need to make a Select Query, which will select all fields except for boolean ones, and a new virtual field (ex: FirstTrueBool) whose value will equal to the name of the first TRUE Boolean Field. For ex: Say I have BField1 = False, BField2 = True, BField3 = true, BField4=false, in that case SQL Query should set [FirstTrueBool] to "BField2". Is that possible? Thank you in advance. P.S. • Re-use aliased field in SQL SELECT STATEMENT

  Hi, the question is hard to define without giving an example, e.g. I'd like to achieve something like this : SELECT (CASE WHEN ...) AS FieldA, 20 + FieldA AS FieldB FROM Tbl Assuming that by "..." I've replaced a long and complex CASE statement, hence I don't want to repeat it when selecting FieldB and use the aliased FieldA instead. IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE? What could be a workaround? Note, that this will return multiple rows , hence the DECLARE/SET outside the SELECT statement is no good in my case. PLEASE HELP. P.S. I am using SQL 2008

• Word VBA: How to know if the actual save operation is completed?

  Hi, I am having a problem with the Document.SaveAs method in Word VBA with large Word documents, it seems that the save operation is asynchronous, ie. after calling SaveAs it returns immediately, but with large Word documents the actual save operation may not has been completed and it's in progress in another thread. So what I want to ask is that if there is a way to detect if the actual save operation is in progress or finished? PS. I use Delphi to call the automation interface of Word, if it means something in discussing this problem, but I don't' think so? Thank you in advance.

  Hi, how to convert a string (wstring) from lowercase to uppercase characters and vice versa? I searched the net and found there is a STL-function std::transform. But until now I hav'nt figured out how to give the right locale-object for example "Germany_german" to the function. Who can help please? my code looks like: wstring strin = L"ABCÄÖÜabcäöü"; wstring str = strin; locale loc( "Germany_german" ); // ??? how to apply this ??? std::transform( str.begin(), str.end(), str.begin(), (int(*)(int)tolower ); //result: "abcäöüabcäöü" The characters ÄÖÜ and äöü (it's like Ae, Oe, Ue) will not be converted correctly.   hey guys, i'm trying to set up a server for integration tests (specs actually) via ruby and can't figure out how to control the process. so, what i'm trying to do is: run a rake task for my gem that executes the integration specs the task needs to first start a server (i use webrick) and then run the specs after executing the specs it should kill the webrick so i'm not left with some unused background process webrick is not a requirement, but it's included in the ruby standard library so being able to use it would be great. hope anyone is able to help! ps. i'm running on linux, so having this work for windows is not my main priority (right now).

• Display indented XML code within a HTML page

  I have a programmatically created HTML document on which I would like to show some XML-code, fully formatted with line breaks and tabulators. That is, it should look like if you drag an xml file without a xml-stylesheet directly onto your browser (most browsers do some kind of xml-rendering with some default style sheet). Now, I can of course escape all the characters (like <>, tab and newline) and do the indenting myself (using css styles, for example), but I was wondering whether I couldn't re-use some 'default' xml-stylesheet from somewhere. Preferrably also one that has some javascript node-folding, too. Do you know such a stylesheet/xslt? Or would you suggest another way to achieve this? I'm using C#. PS: I tried to use the XmlNotepad.DefaultSS.xslt from Microsoft's XmlNotepad, but I couldn't really get that working. :T

• Project hosting on Google Code. Files are cached?

  I do not really understand how Google Code handles file versioning. I am building a jQuery plugin that anyone can access. Like so: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://jquery-old-browser-warning.googlecode.com/files/jquery.browser-warning.js"></script> This script accesses other files on the same project (via ajax). The problem is, that when I upload a new file, it just seems like there aren't any changed to it. Google recommends that new files should have new names. But then I would have to change the filenames that the script loads. But then I would have to change the script file as well, and that would break everybodys implementation (with the script-tag above) Is there a way to force a file to change when uploading with the same filename? PS: If I go directly to the project page's file list. Then I do get the file with the updated content. But as I said, not when getting it through ajax.

• div block going to next line in Firefox

  I have a div with display:block in my css. This div block uses the align = "absmiddle" . It displays all the elements in 1 line in Chrome. However, in firefox, the elements are displyed on to the next line as well. How do I get them to display in 1 single line in firefox.
