• Invalid or expired security context token in WCF web service

  All, I have a WCF web service (let's called service "B") hosted under IIS using a service account (VM, Windows 2003 SP2). The service exposes an endpoint that use WSHttpBinding with the default values except for maxReceivedMessageSize, maxBufferPoolSize, maxBufferSize and some of the time outs that have been increased. The web service has been load tested using Visual Studio Load Test framework with around 800 concurrent users and successfully passed all tests with no exceptions being thrown. The proxy in the unit test has been created from configuration. There is a sharepoint application that use the Office Sharepoint Server Search service to call web services "A" and "B". The application will get data from service "A" to create a request that will be sent to service "B". The response coming from service "B" is indexed for search. The proxy is created programmatically using the ChannelFactory. When service "A" takes less than 10 minutes, the calls to service "B" are successfull. But when service "A" takes more time (~20 minutes) the calls to service "B" throw the following exception: Exception Message: An unsecured or incorrectly secured fault was received from the other party. See the inner FaultException for the fault code and detail Inner Exception Message: The message could not be processed. This is most likely because the action 'namespace/OperationName' is incorrect or because the message contains an invalid or expired security context token or because there is a mismatch between bindings. The security context token would be invalid if the service aborted the channel due to inactivity. To prevent the service from aborting idle sessions prematurely increase the Receive timeout on the service endpoint's binding. The binding settings are the same, the time in both client server and web service server are synchronize with the Windows Time service, same time zone. When i look at the server where web service "B" is hosted i can see the following security errors being logged: Source: Security Category: Logon/Logoff Event ID: 537 User NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Logon Failure: Reason: An error occurred during logon Logon Type: 3 Logon Process: Kerberos Authentication Package: Kerberos Status code: 0xC000006D Substatus code: 0xC0000133 After reading some of the blogs online, the Status code means STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE and the substatus code means STATUS_TIME_DIFFERENCE_AT_DC. but i already checked both server and client clocks and they are syncronized. I also noticed that the security token seems to be cached somewhere in the client server because they have another process that calls the web service "B" using the same service account and successfully gets data the first time is called. Then they start the proccess to update the office sharepoint server search service indexes and it fails. Then if they called the first proccess again it will fail too.   i am planning a simple, dual-language website and i'd like to use a .net based cms but i can't find anything suitable. i have experience with dotnetnuke and sharepoint but neither fit the bill - dotnetnuke does not do dynamic site elements multi-lingually & sharepoint is a monster PITA no matter what angle you look at it :). i am on the verge of choosing Joomla! & Joom!Fish. they fit the bill nicely, with one exception: i would like to create some cms plug-ins and i would much prefer to write them in .net. any suggestions?

• MOSS 2007 BDC Profile Import fails for a few users

  We have set up a BDC Profile Import for Sharepoint 2007 and it works well for 99% of the users. A handful fails with the "Exception occured when calling into BIL connector for import from non master data source" message in the crawl log, though The ULS logs reveal the following information: Exception Profile Import: Exception occured when importing user: '[redacted]\[redacted]'. Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.PropertyInvalidValueException: Invalid Property Value: Could not find SID corresponding to input account name I have confirmed that the user has a sharepoint profile matching the username is a valid domain user exists in AD Can anyone help med troubleshoot this?

  I am using JAX-WS. I am connecting to .NET webservice that requires authentication. I first call the Authentication.asmx so that I can be authenticated. The call returns me a LoginResult that contains a cookie name. Then I call another webservice and I need to somehow pass this cookie or a cookie name. and I don't know how.   I am unable to access Sharepoint Central Administration. I installed MOSS 2007 successfully on Windows Server 2008 (IIS7 and SQL Server 2005), I launched the admin and got "Cannot connect to the configuration database" error. Application pool is using NetworkService account which has access to SQL Server. I can access the configuration databases through SQL Management Studio. SQL server is on the same machine. Any help, suggestions on how to solve the problem? I am very new to SharePoint.

  Hi, On my MOSS site I am trying to save a publishing site as a site template. Then create subsites from this template. I am able to sucessfully create the site template and it is populated in the site template gallery.   I was trying to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 on my Windows 7 pc. When I tried to install it, it tells me that I have a newer version installed on my pc. So, I checked that Microsoft Sharepoint 2010 installed some sql server 2008 tools for me. I decided to uninstall SharePoint 2010(which I wasn't using) and then tried to install MS SQL Server 2005 again. This threw me the following exception: Error 1603 installing microsoft sql server setup support files Searching on Google I found this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916760 but it's not my case actually. Any help will be appreciated. I really need this to continue working.

  I saw a post on Oslo about making us obsolete. I just happened to listen to the latest Deep Fried Episode with Brian Noyes. They were talking about SharePoint and Windows Workflow and how the "dream" of Windows Workflow is to let mere Business Analyst Drag and Drop their way to a functioning service. I am a newbie dotnet developer, and afraid that by the time I get to Consulting "Level" my skills would be obsolete. Should I abandon learning basic skills and just learn how to work with Frameworks and Packaged applications such as SAP, SharePoint, BizTalk. Am I wasting time trying to learn Expression Trees and Func of T's?

• How to clear cache for previously installed InfoPath forms on a client computer?

  Hi folks, We recently had a strange issue with an InfoPath 2007 form being opened from SharePoint 2007 and receiving the error message "the system cannot find the file specified". To be clear, this was not a form services enabled form. Anyway, after spending way too much time trying to figure out what was going on (nothing in the MOSS 2007 server log files), we determined that the user had previously installed an older version of the form (but with the same name) on their workstation using a no longer available msi file (meaning we could not uninstall it from the workstation). So I wanted to pass on a very simple solution for anyone who is unfortunate to run into this problem in the future (since I lost a great deal of hair over it): Fire up regedit, go to HKEY_LOCALMACHINE-Software-Microsoft-Office-InfoPath-SolutionsCatalog. Locate the key that has the previously installed form name, and delete it. This will cause InfoPath to stop trying to open the form locally (which is either old or doesn't exist) and force it to open your form from SharePoint. Hope this helps someone!

• Exception wrapping and HTML pages

  Hi, We have a sharepoint 2007 project at work. The exception handling policy is to log to the Sharepoint logs. In this case, would the best approach be to call that method and then rethrow the exception higher up? Except if I rethrow it to be caught higher up, there is no other exception handling code so what would happen in this case? Also, if you are going to display a more friendly error to the user (which uses information in the exception object), then this would be a good use of exception wrapping. Would it be a good idea to make a custom aspx page and add these to customerrors, so that on init (not sure of the exact event), I can display exception info in the passed parameter on the page. However, a static html page can't do this so I don't see the point in wrapping exceptions (unless there is a page or alert which uses the exception object). So if a project uses html pages for errors, is there a point in wrapping exceptions? Thanks

Checking for null : if (termStore.Groups[groupName] == null) seems like a logical (clean) approach, but if the Groups collection is empty then an exception is produced. using the termStore.Groups.Contains is not an option either because this expects a strong type i.e: .Contains(Group)... not .Contains(GroupName as string) Can someone recommend a clean / generic way I can check for if an item exists in collection .   I've been writing Windows Services for a while and they always seem to work fine for things that need to run every day, few times a week, once a month, etc. but I've been lately thinking about going with Windows Workflow Foundation. However, I am unsure how would they run on a server without some container application (for instance SharePoint)? I worked with Sharepoint workflows before and I always had huge problems, at first with the bugs in the workflow architecture implementation (the problems with sleep and delay) and later when they eventually started to work, they were difficult to manage and change. On the other hand Windows Services were always quite easy to implement, easy to create a setup for them and install them and they were always quite resilient (they were often working for months without crashing or something else going wrong). What do you recommend? Please bear in mind we are working in .NET (version is of no problem, if 4.0 brings something new on this subject, we can use it).

  What would be the best way to monitor a service's memory/load on the OpenSolaris platform so that one can send alerts and automate service management (restarts, etc) based on "rules"? On the linux platform I use Monit, but since OpenSolaris has SMF I thought there may be a complimentary service "built-in" if SMF doesn't have those features and I'd prefer to use a standard OpenSolaris app if there is one.

• Stream internal sound from mac to pc?

  I'm using a headphone connected to a PC, however, I also use a mac. I want to make it so that the internal sound, coming from the mac will also be heard over at the pc. So I want to convert the headphone to a somewhat central sound output where I hear both pc and mac's internal sounds. That includes error alerts, mp3s played on iTunes, etc. Is there an app that will let me do this? Just to clarify, the PC is running Windows XP.

  I have a .NET application that receives messages from a web server and alerts the user. I have one Windows XP SP3 computer that when my application receives the message, it crashes the Windows Explorer shell. (I can see the message received in the listview just before Explorer crashes.) I don't see any errors in the Windows event logs. Is there somewhere that I should be looking at to troubleshoot this problem?

  I've installed a trial of Adobe Flash CS4 (i didn't use this trial till the end) and wrongly entered the expired license number. I ran uninstall and tried to install a trial version again. Seems, that it keeps somewhere the wrong serial number and each time i run the Flash application it alerts me, that the license has expired. How do i properly install the trial? Do i have a chance at all? Thanks a lot!
