• Setting Focus with ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit

  I'm using the AutoComplete control from the ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit and I'm experiencing an issue where the AutoComplete does not populate when I set the focus to the assigned textbox. I've tried setting the focus in the Page_Load, Page_PreRender, and Page_Init events and the focus is set properly but the AutoComplete does not work. If I don't set the focus, everything works fine but I'd like to set it so the users don't have that extra click. Is there a special place I need to set the focus or something else I need to do to make this work? Thanks.

• RSS feed without items

  I have webpage where I have a search page. I provide a "dynamic" RSS feed for search so that a user can subscribe to search results for any search term he likes. So I was wondering what is the standard (or best practise) way to do if that search term returns 0 results which means I have no "items" to put in the feed. Do I just return an empty feed (only including the meta data and no item elements). Or should I put some special item element in the feed with some "no results" text? edit: YouTube returns a feed without any item elements. If no-one can answer me I'll take it that this is the right way of doing it since I can't find any info elsewhere :)

• How to remove duplicate records in a table?

  I've got a table in a testing DB that someone apparently got a little too trigger-happy on when running INSERT scripts to set it up. The schema looks like this: ID UNIQUEIDENTIFIER TYPE_INT SMALLINT SYSTEM_VALUE SMALLINT NAME VARCHAR MAPPED_VALUE VARCHAR It's supposed to have a few dozen rows. It has about 200,000, most of which are duplicates in which TYPE_INT, SYSTEM_VALUE, NAME and MAPPED_VALUE are all identical and ID is not. Now, I could probably make a script to clean this up that creates a temporary table in memory, uses INSERT .. SELECT DISTINCT to grab all the unique values, TRUNCATE the original table and then copy everything back. But is there a simpler way to do it, like a DELETE query with something special in the WHERE clause?

• In Java how instance of and type cast(i.e (ClassName)) works on proxy object ?

  Java generates a proxy class for a given interface and provides the instance of the proxy class. But when we type cast the proxy object to our specific Object, how java handles this internally? Is this treated as special scenario? For example I have class 'OriginalClass' and it implements 'OriginalInterface', when I create proxy object by passing 'OriginalInterface' interface java created proxy class 'ProxyClass' using methods in the provided interface and provides object of this class(i.e ProxyClass). If my understanding is correct then can you please answer following queries 1) When I type cast object of ProxyClass to my class OriginalClass this works, but how java is allowing this? Same in case of instace of? 2) As my knowledge java creates a proxy class only with the methods, but what happen when I try to access attributes on this object? 3) Only interface methods are getting implemented in Proxy, but what happens when I try to access a method which not in interface and only mentioned in the class?   Sorry if the question title is confusing. Let me explain further. I am building a Java project with Eclipse. In my Java product I have conditionals that determine what code is included in the product and relies on static final constants for dead stripping. class BuildFlags { public static final boolean SOME_FLAG = true; // Need to set this programmatically } class SomeOtherClass { public void someMethod() { if (BuildFlags.SOME_FLAG) { // flag specific code } } } My question is how can I change BuildFlags.SOME_FLAG (above) so that I can run a special build without changing the source? Is there some way I can pass flags to the jvm (from eclipse) which I can then access to set this flag programatically?

• Displaying form validation errors in a template (Symfony)

  Hi, let's say I have a blog with a module "post". now I display a post like this: post/index?id=1 in the index-action i generate a new CommentForm and pass it as $this-form to the template and it is being displayed at the bottom of a post (it's just a textfield, nothing special). form action is set to "post/addcomment". How can I display the validation errors in this form? using setTemplate('index') doesn't work because I would have to pass the id=1 to it... thanks

  I am currently trying to convert a VB6 program into C#. There was extensive use of string splitting into structure. For example, Dim Sample AS String Sample = "John Doe New York Test Comment" Public Type Struct1 Name As String * 15 Address As String * 10 Comment As String * 20 End Type Dim dataStruct As Struct1 Set dataStruct = Sample When the dataStruct is set, it will automatically split value into the 3 structure member. Is there a special function to do this in C#. The only way I know how to do this is thru Attributes/Annotation describing the length and start position of string. Any other suggestion?

• Objective-C++ visibility question

  I have linked a library with my program. It works fine. The only problem is that there visibility errors/warnings (thousands of them). They are all of the form: newlib::method() has different visibility (default) in newlib.a and (hidden) in AppDelegate.o It is always with AppDelegate.o. I have tried to set the visibility for both the library and the main app in several ways: the visibility checkmark in XCode, and -fvisibility. Non seem to have worked. Is there somethin special about AppDelegate.mm?

• Basic Hibernate question using and sql query

  Hello Sorry if this is basic but I cannot find the solution anywhere. I have an java Object ‘Person’ with 3 properties firstname,lastname and username. I have an Oracle Store procedure returning a Resultset with the 3 column. All works fine for that. Now I have another StoreProcedure that will only return firstname and lastname but not username. I get the following error : « could not read column value from result set username. » Hibernate tries to fetch the username property from the resultset. If I remove the property username, then it works. Do I have to Create a Special Pojo for Each type of resultset or can I tell Hibernate what to map for each result set? Please help.

• Has anyone ever bought an "Internet Connection" license for WSS 3.0?

  I would like to run a WSS 3.0 that is exposed to the internet and provides access to an arbitrary number of users through forms-based authentication. If the WSS licensing is analogous to that of MOSS, then there should be some special licensing required to make this legitimate. I have seen several vague statements on the internet about an "Internet Connection" license for WSS 3.0, and some more general statements from Mike Walsh to the effect that it costs "around $2000." But I have never seen anything official about this, and I'm not sure if I am even using the correct terminology. Has anyone actually purchased something resembling this license?

• How do I get a UIView which displays text to behave like a UILabel when bounds change?

  I have a UIView in which I need to draw text in drawRect: - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { ... [@"some text" drawAtPoint:somePoint withFont:someFont]; ... } Because the text requires special formatting, I cannot just use a UILabel. It looks fine until I rotate the device. Then the size of my custom UIView changes (in the parent view's layoutSubviews method), and the text becomes stretched in one direction and squished in the other. When I replace my view with a UILabel, the text always looks great, even when the bounds of the view changes. How can I get my view to exhibit the same behavior as UILabel? Some things I have looked into, but have yet to have success with: Set the view's layer's needsDisplayOnBoundsChange to YES. Set the view's contentStretch to CGRectZero. Call setNeedsDisplay in my view's layoutSubviews. Maybe I'm not doing one of these things right. Has anyone else run into this?

• How to run AWS sample JAVA code on an EC2

  I just started with Amazon web services, and I have an EC2 instance. I downloaded the JAVA SDK and the Eclipse toolbox. I am able to run a sample program locally on my PC and connect to the Amazon databases, etc. My question is, what do I need to do to get this working on my EC2 instance? This may not even be specific to AWS. On Eclipse, I can just "Run as Application" and run any code. On the server side, what do I need to do? Should I ftp over my .java files? Should I export it to a jar and upload that? Do I need to install anything special to actually run it? I'm just trying to run the basic DynamoDB example that connects to the database and adds a new table and row

  This is what I have in my schema section of my WSDL to specify the field has to be comparison operators <xsd:simpleType> <xsd:restriction base="xsd:string"> <xsd:pattern value="&lt;|&gt;|&lt;=|&gt;=|="/> </xsd:restriction> </xsd:simpleType> SoapUI complains about this part of the WSDL, I tried to set the value to something with non special characters and the WSDL is valid. So I tried to replace that whole long string to be value=">gt;" and it valid but value="<lt;" is not valid, and value=">" is also not valid. My question is, why does the WSDL validation need > to be double escaped? The main question is, how to provide a valid less than side within the pattern value.

  Is there some way to change Rails environments mid-way through a test? Or, alternately, what would be the right way to set up a test suite that can start up Rails in one environment, run the first half of my test in it, then restart Rails in another environment to finish the test? The two environments have separate databases. Some necessary context: I'm writing a Rails plugin that allows multiple installations of a Rails app to communicate with each other with user assistance, so that a user without Internet access can still use the app. They'll run a local version of an app, and upload their work to the online app by saving a file to a thumbdrive and taking it to an Internet cafe. The plugin adds two special environments to Rails: "offline-production" and "offline-test". I want to write functional tests that involve both the "test" and "offline-test" environments, to represent the main online version of the app and the local offline version of the app respectively.

• How can I print N array elements with delimiters per line?

  I have an array in Perl I want to print with space delimiters between each element, except every 10th element which should be newline delimited. There aren't any spaces in the elements if that matters. I've written a function to do it with for and a counter, but I wondered if there's a better/shorter/canonical Perl way, perhaps a special join syntax or similar. • make a default password for password textboxes that can't be reproduced by the client

  Is it possible to set a password textbox text to text that the user could not reproduce on their end? Like are there special characters that can only be set from the server? For instance, one way to do this would be to use javascript to prevent typing of *'s, and to set the textbox text to be all *'s. But that's hacky. The motivation is to be able to tell on the server if the user changed the password at all, but not to restrict them from having a password of all *'s, for instance.

  In Java, array is a class and extends Object. I am curious to know about this special array class. I don't find the class definition anywhere. Doing a getClass().getName() gives strange result. String[] array = new String[]{"one","two"}; System.out.println(array.getClass().getName()); // prints [Ljava.lang.String; I want to understand how array works under the hood. • Adding more OR searches with CONTAINS Brings Query to Crawl

  I have a simple query that relies on two full-text indexed tables, but it runs extremely slow when I have the CONTAINS combined with any additional OR search. As seen in the execution plan, the two full text searches crush the performance. If I query with just 1 of the CONTAINS, or neither, the query is sub-second, but the moment you add OR into the mix the query becomes ill-fated. The two tables are nothing special, they're not overly wide (42 cols in one, 21 in the other; maybe 10 cols are FT indexed in each) or even contain very many records (36k recs in the biggest of the two). I was able to solve the performance by splitting the two CONTAINS searches into their own SELECT queries and then UNION the three together. Is this UNION workaround my only hope? Thanks. • Wordpress > Exclude specific categories from categories listing

  I have created some functional categories that I use to show/hide markup elements. However, when I go to list the legit categories, these show up too, which I would expect. I want to list the legitimate categories and omit others. I need to know how you would do it under two circumstances.... 1) Each category that I want to exclude is preceded by an underscore character in its name. 2) Each category that I want to exclude is NOT preceeded by a special character and I will just provide an ID to the script that handles the exclusion listing.

Of course I can feed the values to the final method ( "LIMIT %d ", page*RECORDS_PER_PAGE ) but it's neither pretty nor efficient. It's times like this when I wish the preprocessor didn't treat strings in a special way and would process their content just like normal code. For now, I cludged it with #define RECORDS_PER_PAGE_TXT "10" but understandably, I'm not happy about it. How to get it right?

• Where is Python support for PEM + RSA + DES3?

  I need a Python library that supports PEM files and both RSA signing and DES3 encryption. pycrypto doesn't seem to support PEM, and its mechanism for loading existing keys is undocumented and cryptic. m2crypto doesn't seem to support DES/DES3, oddly. I've been running an openssl subprocess, but I'd rather have something built in and preferably fast. Does this exist? (Failing that, I hesitate to ask, but are there high-level enough C apis available for this that I could write a special-purpose extension without killing myself/introducing vulns?)

• Why is 1942/4/3 00:00:00 an illegal date in java.util.Calendar?

  Is there something special in the date 3rd of April 1942? For some reason the the hour of day 0 (12:00 am) is illegal for this specific date. The date is accepted when a lenient calendar is used but the hour of day is incremented to 1 (1:00 am). Relevant code java.util.Calendar calendar = java.util.Calendar.getInstance(); calendar.clear(); calendar.setLenient(false); calendar.set(1942, 3, 3, 0, 0, 0); calendar.getTimeInMillis(); Exception java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: HOUR_OF_DAY at java.util.GregorianCalendar.computeTime(Unknown Source) at java.util.Calendar.updateTime(Unknown Source) at java.util.Calendar.getTimeInMillis(Unknown Source) I'd really prefer is the dates were not lenient as I don't want to accept impossible dates.

• Why is '\x' invalid in Python?

  I was experimenting with '\' characters, using '\a\b\c...' just to enumerate for myself which characters Python interprets as control characters, and to what. Here's what I found: \a - BELL \b - BACKSPACE \f - FORMFEED \n - LINEFEED \r - RETURN \t - TAB \v - VERTICAL TAB Most of the other characters I tried, '\g', '\s', etc. just evaluate to the 2-character string of a backslash and the given character. I understand this is intentional, and makes sense to me. But '\x' is a problem. When my script reaches this source line: val = "\x" I get: ValueError: invalid \x escape What is so special about '\x'? Why is it treated differently from the other non-escaped characters?
