  • NHibernate, Databinding to DataGridView, Lazy Loading, and Session managment - need advice

    My main application form (WinForms) has a DataGridView, that uses DataBinding and Fluent NHibernate to display data from a SQLite database. This form is open for the entire time the application is running. For performance reasons, I set the convention DefaultLazy.Always() for all DB access. So far, the only way I've found to make this work is to keep a Session (let's call it MainSession) open all the time for the main form, so NHibernate can lazy load new data as the user navigates with the grid. Another part of the application can run in the background, and Save to the DB. Currently, (after considerable struggle), my approach is to call MainSession.Disconnect(), create a disposable Session for each Save, and MainSession.Reconnect() after finishing the Save. Otherwise SQLite will throw "The database file is locked" exceptions. This seems to be working well so far, but past experience has made me nervous about keeping a session open for a long time (I ran into performance problems when I tried to use a single session for both Saves and Loads - the cache filled up, and bogged down everything - see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2526675/commit-is-very-slow-in-my-nhibernate-sqlite-project). So, my question - is this a good approach, or am I looking at problems down the road? If it's a bad approach, what are the alternatives? I've considered opening and closing my main session whenever the user navigates with the grid, but it's not obvious to me how I would do that - hook every event from the grid that could possibly cause a lazy load? I have the nagging feeling that trying to manage my own sessions this way is fundamentally the wrong approach, but it's not obvious what the right one is.

If I disable the reliableSession on the client I get this message: The action is not supported by this endpoint. Only WS-ReliableMessaging February 2005 messages are processed by this endpoint. So it seems that the server is configured correctly for RM. I cannot find anything valuable about the error I get so I don't know how to fix this. Any ideas what can be wrong? Thank in advance, Rob

  • How to share session cookies between Internet Explorer and an ActiveX components hosted in a webpage

    I am currently working on a .Net application which makes HTTP requests to some web applications hosted on a IIS server. The application is deployed through ClickOnce and is working fine on simple networks architectures. One of our customers has a very complex network involving a custom authentication server on which the user has first to log himself in order to be authenticated and get access to other applications on this network. Once authenticated on this server, a session cookie is created and sent to the user. Every time the user then makes a request on a secured server of the network, this cookie is checked to grant access to the user. If this cookie is not sent with the request, the user is redirected to the login page. The only browser used is Internet Explorer. This cookie cannot be accessed from our .net application since it is executed in another process than the Internet Explorer process which was used to log the user in, and thus is not sent with our requests, which cannot be completed since the server redirects every of our requests to the login page. I had a look at embedding my application into Internet Explorer by making the main control COM visible and creating it on an HTML page with an tag. It is working properly, however the sessions cookies set earlier in the browser are not sent when the ActiveX control makes web requests. I was hoping this sharing of the session information would be automatic (although I didn't really believe it). So my questions are : Is it possible to have access to this cookie in the embedded ActiveX? How? Does it make a difference to use a .Net COM-interop component instead of a "true" ActiveX control? Also, are there specific security words to describe this kind of behaviors (given that I am not an expert at all on security topics, this lack of proper terminology makes it a lot harder to find the needed resources)? My goal is to have my application's requests look the same from the requests made by the host browser's requests, and I thought that embedding the application as an ActiveX control into the browser was the only way to achieve this, however any suggestion on another to do this is welcome.

    I am using an Ajax.ActionLink to display a partial view that shows a settings dialog (the modality of which is arranged using jQuery UI dialog). The issue I am running into is around browser caching. It is important that the user is never shown a cached settings dialog.   • What is the scope of CONTEXT_INFO in SQL Server?

    I am using CONTEXT_INFO to pass a username to a delete trigger for the purposes of an audit/history table. I'm trying to understand the scope of CONTEXT_INFO and if I am creating a potential race condition. Each of my database tables has a stored proc to handle deletes. The delete stored proc takes userId as an parameter, and sets CONTEXT_INFO to the userId. My delete trigger then grabs the CONTEXT_INFO and uses that to update an audit table that indicates who deleted the row(s). The question is, if two deletes sprocs from different users are executing at the same time, can CONTEXT_INFO set in one of the sprocs be consumed by the trigger fired by the other sproc? I've seen this article http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189252.aspx but I'm not clear on the scope of sessions and batches in SQL Server which is key to the article being helpful! I'd post code, but short on time at the moment. I'll edit later if this isn't clear enough. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi , I am trying to use a COMET solution using ASP.NET . Trouble is i want to implement sending and notification part in the same page. On IE7, whenever i try to send a request ,it just gets queued up. After reading on internet and stackoverflow pages i found that i can only do 2 simultaneous asyn ajax requests per page. So until i close my comet Ajax request,my 2nd request doesnt get completed ,doesnt even go out from the browser. And when i checked with Firefox i just one Ajax comet request running all time..so doesnt that leave me one more ajax request? Also the solution uses IRequiressessionstate for Asynchronous HTTP Handler which i had removed.but still it creates problems on multiple instances of IE7. I had one work around which is stated here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/282402 it means we can increase the request limit from registry by default is 2. By changing "MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server" key in hive "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" we can increase the number of requests. Basically i want to broadcast information to multiple clients connected to a server using Comet and the clients can also send messages to the Server. Broadcasting works but the send request back to server doesnt work. Im using IIS 6 and ASP.NET . Are there any more workarounds or ways to send more requests? I have used the excellent Import Type-Library guide in Delphi 2009 to get a TSpVoice component in the component palette. This works great. With var SpVoice: TSpVoice; I can write SpVoice.Speak('This is an example.', 1); to get asynchronous audio output. First question According to the documentation, I would be able to write SpVoice.Speak('This is an example.', 0); to get synchronous audio output, but instead I get an EZeroDivide exception. Why's that? Second question But more importantly, I would like to be able to create the SpVoice object dynamically (I think this is called to "late-bound" the SpVoice object), partly because only a very small fraction of all sessions of my app will use it, and partly because I do not want to assume the existance of the SAPI server on the end-user's system. To this end, I tried procedure TForm1.FormClick(Sender: TObject); var SpVoice: Variant; begin SpVoice := CreateOleObject('SAPI.SpVoice'); SpVoice.Speak('this is a test', 0); end; which apparently does nothing at all!   • Clear UIWebView content upon dismissal of modal view (iPhone OS 3.0)

    I currently have a UIWebView that is displayed within a modal view. It is basically a detail view that provides a view of a page when the user clicks a link. When the view is dismissed and then brought up again (when the user clicks another link), the previously-loaded content is still visible and the new content loads "on top" of the last content. This makes sense because the instance of the UIWebView persists between sessions and is only released when the memory is needed. However, I would like to completely clear the UIWebView when the modal view is dismissed so that 1) content is cleared and 2) memory is freed. Thus far my research and attempts have not found an answer.     I have an Send.aspx page that has an uploadify control on it. Upload.ashx handles the file upload. I am adding a file record to a sql database in the Upload.ashx file and I need to get the ID of that record back from Upload.aspx when it is done. Can't get it working with Sessions. =( Something to do with an Adobe bug? What would the best way to handle this be?   • Custom HTTPHandler causing caching or session issues?

    So i have a custom CMS running under .Net 3.5 written entirely in c#. The engine is optimized to render for mobile devices, but also server to normal web browsers. It also supports cookieless sessions. Great... I've chosen not to cache anything (including browser data) in order to control the rendering completely from data. This has been all good until lately. The engine implements a basic login function that simply logs the user state within a session object. The behavior is rather strange. User will click through the site no problem. Then login. The login will either go through successfully or just redisplay the login screen, suggesting a cached page being returned or redisplayed... If the login is successful the concurrent page hits will switch arbitrarily between logged in and logged out state... Also suggesting either the session state is not accessible or a cached page being returned. I have debugged the hell out of the thing.... including using fiddler and the like. When debugging the behavior disappears. Huh? One of the sites running on the engine is http://www.wiseguy.mobi (sorry customized for South Africa, so you'll probably not be able to get the password Text Message)!

  • Implementation review for a MVC.NET app with custom membership

    I'd like to hear if anyone sees any problems with how I implemented the security in this Oracle based MVC.NET app, either security issues, concurrency issues or scalability issues. First, I implemented a CustomOracleMembershipProvider to handle the database interface to the membership store. I implemented a custom Principal named User which implements IPrincipal, and it has a hashtable of Roles. I also created a separate class named AuthCache which has a simple cache for User objects. Its purpose is simple to avoid return trips to the database, while decoupling the caching from either the web layer or the data layer. (So I can share the cache between MVC.NET, WCF, etc.) The MVC.NET stock MembershipService uses the CustomOracleMembershipProvider (configured in web.config), and both MembershipService and FormsService share access to the singleton AuthCache. My AccountController.LogOn() method: 1) Validates the user via the MembershipService.Validate() method, also loads the roles into the User.Roles container and then caches the User in AuthCache. 2) Signs the user into the Web context via FormsService.SignIn() which accesses the AuthCache (not the database) to get the User, sets HttpContext.Current.User to the cached User Principal. In global.asax.cs, Application_AuthenticateRequest() is implemented. It decrypts the FormsAuthenticationTicket, accesses the AuthCache by the ticket.Name (Username) and sets the Principal by setting Context.User = user from the AuthCache. So in short, all these classes share the AuthCache, and I have, for thread synchronization, a lock() in the cache store method. No lock in the read method. The custom membership provider doesn't know about the cache, the MembershipService doesn't know about any HttpContext (so could be used outside of a web app), and the FormsService doesn't use any custom methods besides accessing the AuthCache to set the Context.User for the initial login, so it isn't dependent on a specific membership provider. The main thing I see now is that the AuthCache will be sharing a User object if a user logs in from multiple sessions. So I may have to change the key from just UserId to something else (maybe using something in the FormsAuthenticationTicket for the key?).

  • Bypass all cacheing on jQuery.autocomplete(1.02)

    I am using jQuery.autocomplete(1.02) on my search box and I want exact string and substring matching. I don't care (yet!) about the database load, I'm happy for it to fire off a query every keystroke and bypass the caching entirely - I just don't want anything missed. To this end I have tried setting cacheLength=1, the minimum permitted, but the autocomplete function refuses to fire off a GET request for each key up. searchbox GET_request 'a' -> http://localhost/service_search_request?q=a 'ar' -> http://localhost/service_search_request?q=ar 'ars' -> http://localhost/service_search_request?q=ars Instead, it sends the first and the third and misses the second, giving me the wrong results for 'ar' :-/ I've cleared my cache and sessions but it looks like some sort of caching is still going on. AFAIK I have no proxying going on and I'm shift-refreshing each time. It looks likely then that this behavior is from jQuery.autocomplete itself. So my questions are... A) Does this seem likely? i.e. is it a feature, or maybe a bug? B) If so is there a clean way around it?... C) If not, what autocomplete would you use instead? Naturally D) No you're just using it incorrectly you douche! is always a possibility, and indeed the one I'd prefer having spent time going down this road - assuming it comes with a link to the docs I've failed to find / read!   • Sharing session state between 2 ASP.NET applications using SQL Server

    Hi I'm working on a site that has a requirement to share session between a cms application and an online store application on the same domain eg. mydomain.com and store.mydomain.com I've made some progress with it and it works on my local build between localhost/cms and localhost/store Basically I have done what is suggested in this article http://blogs.msdn.com/toddca/archive/2007/01/25/sharing-asp-net-session-state-across-applications.aspx and hacked the TempGetAppID Stored Procedure to return the same application id (1). This appears to work as it creates sessions with ids like 'abv5d2urx1asscfwuzw3wp4500000001', which is what I'd expect. My issue is that when I deploy it to our testing environment, it creates a new session when I navigate between the 2 sites. So when I start a session on the cms site, if I navigate to the store, it creates a new session. These are set up as 2 different websites in IIS7. In the web.config files for both sites, the and elements are both the same and are as follows (minus sensitive information) Has anyone got an ideas why this might not be working? I am sharing Forms Authentication across the 2 sites and that works fine. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks Dave

    I'm using the code from the example titled "A Slightly Bigger Example" from this tutorial http://rubylearning.com/blog/2009/09/30/cookie-based-sessions-in-sinatra/ to figure out how to send a cookie to a Sinatra application but I can't figure out how to set the values correctly When I set the name to be "brandon" in the application it creates a cookie with a value of BAh7BiIJdXNlciIMYnJhbmRvbg%3D%3D%0A which is a url encoding (http://ostermiller.org/calc/encode.html) of the value BAh7BiIJdXNlciIMYnJhbmRvbg== Using that value I can send a cookie to the app correctly curl -b "rack.session=BAh7BiIJdXNlciIMYnJhbmRvbg==" localhost:9393 I'm pretty sure that value is a base64 encoding of the ruby hash for the session since the docs (http://rack.rubyforge.org/doc/classes/Rack/Session/Cookie.html) say The session is a Ruby Hash stored as base64 encoded marshalled data set to :key (default: rack.session). I thought that meant all I had to do was base64 encode {"user"=>"brandon"} and use it in the curl command. Unfortunately that creates a different value than BAh7BiIJdXNlciIMYnJhbmRvbg==. Next I tried taking the base64 encoded value and decoding it at various base64 decoders online but that results in strange characters (a box symbol and others) so I don't know how to recreate the value to even encode it. So my question is do you know what characters/format I need to get the proper base64 encoding and/or do you know of another way to pass a value using curl such that it will register as a proper cookie for a Sinatra app?

  • ASP.NET Ajax - Asynch request has separate session???

    We are writing a search application that saves the search criteria to session state and executes the search inside of an asp.net updatepanel. Sometimes when we execute multiple searches successively the 2nd or 3rd search will sometimes return results from the first set of search criteria. Example: our first search we do a look up on "John Smith" - John Smith results are displayed. The second search we do a look up on "Bob Jones" - John Smith results are displayed. We save all of the search criteria in session state as I said, and read it from session state inside of the ajax request to format the DB query. When we put break points in VS everything behaves as normal, but without them we get the original search criteria and results. My guess is because they are saved in session, that the ajax request somehow gets its own session and saves the criteria to that, and then retrieves the criteria from that session every time, but the non-async stuff is able to see when the criteria is modified and saves the changes to state accordingly, but because they are from two different sessions there is a disparity in what is saved and read. EDIT::: To elaborate more, there was a suggestion of appending the search criteria to the query string which normally is good practice and I agree thats how it should be but following our requirements I don't see it as being viable. They want it so the user fills out the input controls hits search and there is no page reload, the only thing they see is a progress indicator on the page, and they still have the ability to navigate and use other features on the current page. If I were to add criteria to the query string I would have to do another request causing the whole page to load, which depending on the search criteria can take a really long time. This is why we are using an ajax call to perform the search and why we aren't causing another full page request..... I hope this clarifies the situation.

    For testing I have 1 isolated page - no masters, controls, …. My sessions are lost after about 30 seconds. I’ve tried setting timeout on the page itself, in web.config, both, and neither. Tried forms authentication with timeout and windows authentication. Recycle the AppPool after changes. I can response.write from the Session_Start , but I never get any response.writes from the Session_End. Some things I’ve tried: <sessionState mode="InProc" stateConnectionString="tcpip=127.0.0.1:42424" sqlConnectionString="data source=127.0.0.1;" cookieless="false" timeout="20" /> <sessionState mode="InProc" cookieless="false" timeout="20"/> <sessionState mode="InProc" timeout="20"/> <sessionState timeout="20"/> No luck. My runtime is set to: <httpRuntime useFullyQualifiedRedirectUrl="true" maxRequestLength="204800" requestLengthDiskThreshold="204800" executionTimeout="600" /> I don’t know what this would be relevant, but I can’t think of anything else to post!   • Losing Session between Classic ASP and ASP.NET

    The company that I work for is making a transition between classic ASP programs and ASP.NET programs for our intranet software. Eventually, everything will be written in ASP.NET, but because of time constraints, there are still a number of programs that use classic ASP. To compensate we've written features that allow for redirects and autologins between classic ASP programs and ASP.NET programs. I've been starting to see a problem, though, with holding the session state for our ASP.NET software. If a user uses an ASP.NET program, then does work in a classic ASP program, then goes back to that ASP.NET program, often times, the user's authentication for the ASP.NET program is still in place, yet the user's session is lost, resulting in an error whenever a function is performed within the program. I'm trying to capture the loss of the session state in global.asax's Session_End event, which would redirect the user to the login page, but that hasn't worked. Has anyone else faced a similar issue with users moving back and forth between classic ASP and ASP.NET and losing sessions? Is that even my real issue here? It's the only thing that I can see as being a problem. Thanks for any help.

  • Need to kill a session?

    Really quick here... I think I have the answer, but just looking for some validation. I have a site with two "points of entry." One is for a standard user and one is for an admin account. In the real world, an admin could have a standard user account and try to login as an admin while already being under the standard user session. I have two separate front ends to facilitate login. The normal user one is frilly and has ads and the like, the admin one is strictly business, so any suggestion to have the two user types login through the same "door" is not on the table. Would you advise on the admin login page to destroy any active sessions? Once the admin is in, they'll only be tooling around in their admin area and not on the main site. Has anyone run into probs using this method and having an admin-type user try to log back in in a new window as a "user" to view changes from a logged in user's prespective? Thanks in advance. So many cans of worms :)

  • How to avoid an HttpException due to timeout

    I'm working on a website powered by .NET asp/C# code. The clients require that sessions have a 25 minute timeout. However, sometimes the site is used, and a user stays connected for long periods of time (longer than 25 mins). Session_End is triggered: protected void Session_End(Object sender, EventArgs e) { Hashtable trackingInformaiton = (Hashtable)Application["trackingInformation"]; trackingInformaiton.Remove(Session["trackingID"]); } The user returns some time later, but when they interact with the website, they get an error, and we get this email notification: User: Unauthenticated User Error: System.Web.HttpException Description: Failed to load viewstate. The control tree into which viewstate is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save viewstate during the previous request... The telling part of the stack trace is System.Web.UI.Control.AddedControl. Apparently, the server has thrown away the session data, and is sending new data, but the client is trying to deal with old data. Hence the error that "the control tree into which viewstate is being loaded [doesn't] match the control tree that was used to save the viewstate during the prevoius request." So here's the question. How can I force instruct the user's browser to redirect to a "you're logged out" screen when the connection times out? (Is it something I should add to the Session_End method?)
