• How do you force Outlook 2007 to re-index it's seach on Windows XP SP 3?

  So I have a Windows XP SP 3 machine which is running Outlook 2007. When I search in Outlook for an email that exists using a basic keyword, like say "MySQL", I get no results. However, Outlook gives me the following message: Search results may be incomplete because items are still being indexed. Click here for more details. When I click, I get the following: Outlook is currently indexing your items. Search results may be incomplete because items are still being indexed. 8783 items remaining in "Mailbox - USER" 8812 items remaining across all open mailboxes. The thing is, these are the numbers it has been reporting for several days, and Outlook is open for 8 hours a day. It does not seem like the index is working. As best I can tell, the index seemed to stop about 3 weeks ago. How can I force Outlook 2007 to re-index everything and start working properly again?

  Hello, I am using sphinx as a search engine on my website its working perfect and I have no complain with it. The only thing it lacks is, it does not allow me to search articles whose query length is more than 15 words. I know in reality people don't use more than 3-4 words i want to use it for finding duplicate contents. I was wondering if there is any alternative solution to sphinx. I want to cope with duplicate contents. My main articles table is in innodb but I am also caching articles into MyISAM table as well for full text searching but when I search an article it takes ages to perform one search. Its not the query problem, i think mysql lacks the fulltext searching facility. Thanks Jason

• IP Address Lookup in VB.net (XP vs Windows 7)

  Currently I use the following code to retrieve the IP address of the local workstation... strIPAddress = System.Net.Dns.GetHostEntry(strComputerName).AddressList(0).ToString() This is fine for the Windows XP workstations. However, in Vista and Windows 7, this returns the IPv6 address which is not used at all. Is there a method of setting this to work so it always returns the IPv4 address regardless of platform? I know I can increment the AddressList value to 1 and get the correct IP in Windows 7. The bad part is that this requires going through the motions of identifying the OS and choosing one or the other. The must be some way of specifying IPv4 only. Perhaps getting a result from DNS on the network rather than the workstation itself?

• Search SharePoint ULS Logs with Windows

  Hi, I have a standard/new Windows 2008 R2 install with SharePoint 2010 and am looking for a SharePoint expectation that occurred sometime during the last week. So I open windows explorer, then go to the logs directory (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS). In the toolbar I can enter some search text (exception) or i can Ctrl-F which puts my cursor in the same search box. First it searches the filenames, comes back with no results, and then i click File Contents. And it comes back with still no results. Now I think, maybe there are no errors, so i search for something that I know is in the log (w3wp), still no results. In previous versions of windows, i could usually fix this by making *.log files read as text. But apparently (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725753(WS.10).aspx) *.log files should already be read as text. Any idea how to make the search, really search log files. I would prefer a solution that did not involve installing any 3rd party software (eg like ULSViewer), but registry/powershell settings are okay.

• PostgreSQL: Full Text Search - How to search partial words ?

  Hello, Following a question posted here about how I can increase the speed on one of my SQL Search methods, I was advised to update my table to make use of Full Text Search. This is what I have now done, using Gist indexes to make searching faster. On some of the "plain" queries I have noticed a marked increase which I am very happy about. However, I am having difficulty in searching for partial words. For example I have several records that contain the word Squire (454) and I have several records that contain Squirrel (173). Now if I search for Squire it only returns the 454 records but I also want it to return the Squirrel records as well. My query looks like this SELECT title FROM movies WHERE vectors @@ to_tsoquery('squire'); I thought I could do to_tsquery('squire%') but that does not work. How do I get it to search for partial matches ? Also, in my database I have records that are movies and others that are just TV Shows. These are differentiated by the "" over the name, so like "Munsters" is a TV Show, whereas The Munsters is the film of the show. What I want to be able to do is search for just the TV Show AND just the movies. Any idea on how I can achieve this ? Regards Anthoni

  In a small project of mine I've came across the need of a collapsible group box. Searching the Net, I've found one here. In one of the comments there's an improvement on the original code that uses the VisualStyleRenderer class in order to acquire the TreeView open and closed glyph. Running the code it draws properly the Plus and Minus sing as Windows XP would draw it, however in Windows Vista and Windows 7 the glyph for open and closed nodes are small triangles. What kind of interface, class or PInvoke, I need to use in order to acquire the right glyph?

  After processing form from POST I should redirect, to prevent user from hitting back. However, I am using form to determine search query on a database, so I need to either pass params to the redirected site or the result of a search. Or maybe there is some other good practice, how to solve this problem? Maybe in this situation I am allowed not to redirect (nothing happens, if user performs search again).

• Problem using Hibernate-Search

  Hi, I am using hibernate search for my application. It is well configured and running perfectly till some time back, when it stopped working suddenly. The reason according to me being the number of my model (bean) classes. I have some 90 classes, which I add to my configuration, while building my Hibernate Configuration. When, I disable hibernate search (remove the search annotations and use Configuration instead of AnnotationsConfiguration), I try to start my application, it Works fine. But,the same app when I enable search, it just hangs up. I tried debugging and found the exact place where it hangs. After adding all the class to my AnnotationsConfiguration object, when I say cfg.buildSessionfactory(), It never comes out of that statement. (I have waited for hours!!!) Also when I decrease the number of my model classes (like say to half i.e. 50) it comes out of that statement and the application works fine.. Can Someone tell why is this happening?? My versions of hibernate are: hibernate-core-3.3.1.GA.jar hibernate-annotations-3.4.0.GA.jar hibernate-commons-annotations-3.1.0.GA.jar hibernate-search-3.1.0.GA.jar Also if need to avoid using AnnotationsConfiguration, I read that I need to configure the search event listeners explicitly.. can anyone list all the neccessary listeners and their respective classes? • Named ports in windows!

  I wonder how stuff like this works in windows (xp and other that have telnet): Start-> Run -> cmd -> telnet <xyz.com> http Start-> Run -> cmd -> telnet <xyz.com> pop3 Start-> Run -> cmd -> telnet <xyz.com> smtp Are these "named" ports? Only windows knows that it has to substitute port numbers coz these are standard ports? Is there way I could create such a named port on windows? • Do I need to use http redirect code 302 or 307?

  I am working on a CMS that uses a search facility to output a list of content items. You can use this facility as a search engine, but in this instance I am using it to output the current month's Media Releases from an archive of all Media Releases. The default parameters for these "Data Lists" as they are called, don't allow you to specify "current month" or "current year" for publication date - only "last x days" or "from dateA to dateB". The search facility will accept querystring parameters though, so I intend to code around it like this: Page loads How many days into the current month are we? Do we have a query string that asks for a list including this many days? If no, redirect the client back to this page with the appropriate query-string included. If yes, allow the CMS to process the query Now here's the rub. Suppose the spider from your favourite search engine comes along and tries to index your main Media Releases page. If you were to use a 301 redirect to the default query page, the spider would assume the main page was defunct and choose to add the query page to its index instead of the main page. Now I see that 302 and 307 indicate that a page has been moved temporarily; if I do this, are spiders likely to pop the main page into their index like I want them to?   I've run into a snag though which has to do with authentication between the Google Search Appliance and ASP. Normally, when asking for secure pages from the search appliance, the search appliance asks for credentials, then uses these credentials to try and access the secure results. If this attempt is successful, the page shows up in the results list. Since ASP is contacting the search appliance on the client's behalf, it will need to collect credentials and pass them along to the search appliance. I have tried a couple of different documented ways of accomplishing this, but they don't seem to work. • Running mongod as a windows service

  Hello, i have installed mongodb on win32 and i am trying to run it as a service. I have followed the instructions posted here: http://www.deltasdevelopers.com/post/Running-MongoDB-as-a-Windows-Service.aspx but when when windows tries to 'load'/'run' the service there is a problem. I see the service under the services control banner constantly in the 'starting' state. The result: the service is not started and windows is constantly trying to start it without success. The instructions i have followed are: At the command line C:\mongodb\mongod -install then C:\mongodb\mongod -service Then i modified the Win Registry Entry for the MongoDB Service by setting the ImagePath key to the value of C:\mongodb\mongodb.exe -service Any advice? What am i doing wrong?

  lets say I have a table with product details. one of the fields is category (integer). I want to do fulltext search on product name in specific category. Unfortunately Mysql does not allow me to specify index that includes category and product name as fulltext. It looks like I can use fulltext only on product_name and theefore any fulltext search will search product names in all categories. Is there any way to solve this (allow fulltext search/index only on products in category)?

• AJAX - querying a search engine and returning the number of results

  Right, so basically I need to query a selection of search engines in an AJAX app. As there is a number of different search engines - there's no search engine specific API I can use either. My main problem is getting the number of results returned by the search. So far, I have decided it is probably best to use a regexp from the returned search query HTML, and then convert the string of characters to an integer. However, this method just doesn't feel.. clean to me. It seems a bit rough around the edges and I think it could do with improving! I guess not being 100% confident with regular expressions doesn't help; but it just feels like it could be improved. Any ideas on how to implement this would be great cheers! It doesn't seem like that an exotic thing to do, so I was wondering if perhaps any of you guys have done this before and would have a few tips? Note: This is an AJAX app at the moment, but I may be re-writing this functionality in a different app soon - which won't be AJAX. I'm confident I can transfer any AJAX implementation to the other language though.

They array is not large (below 200 elements) and will be prepared once for a large number of searches. Array elements after the n-th can if necessary be initialized to something appropriate, if that speeds up the search. No, binary search is not allowed, only linear search.

• Deployment Setup (.Net) - Search target machine -> Registry search (64 bit)

  I have a windows installer project which installs some software (winform, service, mce addin). During the installation I need to search the machine for a registry key. This is done with with the "Launch Condition" - "Add Registry Search" (Deployment Project). I have filled out all the properties right, and checked against the regestry that the value actually can be found. The problem is that the "Registry Search" searches in the x86 part of the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\...) although my system is a x64 and the deployment setup is also set to x64. Does anyone know how to force the "Registry Search" to search the x64 registry? Or know about a workaround? The weird thing about this, is that Registry setting in the deployment setup is writing to the right registry (x64). My idea is that the "Registry Search" program is only developed to the x86 architecture, and therefore can't read the right registry.   Has anyone experience with custom Lucene sharding / paritioning using Hibernate Search? The documentation of Hibernate Search says the following about Lucene Sharding : In some cases, it is necessary to split (shard) the indexing data of a given entity type into several Lucene indexes. This solution is not recommended unless there is a pressing need because by default, searches will be slower as all shards have to be opened for a single search. In other words don't do it until you have problems :) Has anyone implemented sharding in such a way for Hibernate Search that also queries can be target to one of the shards? In our case we have Lucene queries that should target only one shard per query.
