• getting Internet connection sharing working in a slightly more complicated configuration

  I have the following configuration: Computer A - Mac OSX 10.8.4, wireless & wired adapters Computer B - Windows 7 (64 bit), wireless & wired adapters, has internet connection via the wired adapter (ethernet) d-link wired/wireless router. Problem to solve: Connect from computer A to the internet through the wired connection of computer B. I tried the following: I set up a local network between A and B using the d-link router. The configuration is this: D-link router - 192.168.0.1 A - wired connection to the d-link router, static 192.168.0.101 (I could have used the wireless but I preferred the wired connection) B - wireless connection to the d-link router DHCP 192.168.0.102 (but I made sure it always gets the same address) B - wired connection to the internet using some address that begins with 10.x.y.z. In this configuration A can see B. I enabled ICS on the wired adapter of B. I set up the Gateway of A to point to B and DNS servers to point to the DNS servers specified for the 10.x.y.z address. It doesn't work, A goes only as far as B. It can ping the 10.x.y.z address of B though. I then found this article: http://terrybritton.com/windows-internet-connection-sharing-ics-not-working-with-linux-bridging-is-the-solution-916/. Terry is suggesting that a bridge should be defined on B between the two connections. I tried that but basically computer B is screwed as soon as I create the bridge. It can't connect to the internet anymore. It is as if the network bridge seems to think the traffic to the internet should go from the wired connection to the wireless and not the other way around. The other thing that puzzles me is the router itself. In general the router needs an internet address. In a normal configuration it is the router that gets the ip address and the internet traffic goes through the router. In my case I am not interested in that. So, any suggestions to get this working? I wouldn't shy away from using a commercial software but I would think windows 7 should allow me to do it. Thanks

For this I have enabled following policies in User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Network connections Enable Windows 2000 network connection settings for administrators Prohibit access to properties of a LAN connection Prohibit access to properties of components a LAN connection Users (that exist in administrators) still can change the LAN properties. Are there any other solutions?

• ZeroDowntime deployment of configuration in Tomcat 7

  looking at the things which can be done with the Parallel deployments in Tomcat 7, I wonder how new or changed configuration could be provided to these various versions of the application. In a nutshell - what parallel deployment offers is that pushing a new version of a war file to the webapps dir (with filenames like "App##01.war, "App##02.war") and ever user with a new session will get the newer version, all others stay with the old version. So how could one provide different or additional configuration (properties) to the various versions? Cheers.

• Dell "Remote Access Configuration Utility" keeps prompting

  One of our servers can never reboot without pausing at the BIOS prompt asking to "F1 to continue, F2 to enter setup utility". I have gone into Setup and there is nothing there to stop it prompting for this; I have gone into the Remote Access Configuration Utility (CTRL+E) and have setup some values hoping that because it was setup it would not keep asking, but nope, nothing obvious like "Disable Remote Access Configuration". This is the screen we see: Does anyone know what we can do to let our machine boot cleanly??

• Search for and print only matched pattern

  I have some huge xml text files. I need to write a script to find and print a specific tag only. I tried sed and grep but they both return the whole line. Using SunOS 5.x, so not all linux commands may work. grep -o is not available. The 'xml' file is not actually one huge xml document, but each line is a separate xml document, with just a few tags, not even nested. And the structure is fairly easy, so full xml parsers is not needed, and probably would not work. I was looking for sed, awk, or some other one liners, but could not get them to work, and they are both relatively new to me.

  I usually design GUI with Glade, thus producing a series of Builder XML files (one such file for each application window). Now my idea is to define a class, e.g. MainWindow, that inherits from gtk.Window and that implements all the signal handlers for the application main window. The problem is that when I retrieve the main window from the containing XML file, it is returned as a gtk.Window instance. The solution I have adopted so far is the following: I have defined a class "Window" in the following way class Window(): def __init__(self, win_name): builder = gtk.Builder() self.builder = builder builder.add_from_file("%s.glade" % win_name) self.window = builder.get_object(win_name) builder.connect_signals(self) def run(self): return self.window.run() def show_all(self): return self.window.show_all() def destroy(self): return self.window.destroy() def child(self, name): return self.builder.get_object(name) In the actual application code I have then defined a new class, say MainWindow, that inherits frow Window, and that looks like class Main(Window): def __init__(self): Window.__init__(self, "main") ### Signal handlers ##################################################### def on_mnu_file_quit_activated(self, widget, data = None): ... The string "main" refers to the main window, called "main", which resides into the XML Builder file "main.glade" (this is a sort of convention I decided to adopt). So the question is: how can I inherit from gtk.Window directly, by defining, say, the class Foo(gtk.Window), and recast the return value of builder.get_object(win_name) to Foo?

Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. - Chinese Proverb I could ask what kind of data storage I should use for my actual project, but I want to learn to fish, so I don't need to ask for a fish each time I begin a new project. So, until I used two methods to store data on my non-game project: XML files, and relational databases. I know that there is also other kind of database, of the NoSQL kind. However I wouldn't know if there is more choice available to me, or how to choose in the first place, aside arbitrary picking one. So the question is the following: How should I choose the kind of data storage for a game project? And I would be interested on the following criterion when choosing: The size of the project. The platform targeted by the game. The complexity of the data structure. Added Portability of data amongst many project. Added How often should the data be accessed Added Multiple type of data for a same application Any other point you think is of interest when deciding what to use. EDIT I know about Would it be better to use XML/JSON/Text or a database to store game content?, but thought it didn't address exactly my point. Now if I am wrong, I would gladely be shown the error in my ways.

• Is there a way to save MS Word document as HTML w/o the ms proprietary stuff?

  So normally I wouldn't use this feature ("Save as Web Page") but I have large documents from clients they just want put on their site as HTML, and formatting it all by hand seems like a waste of time. I have tried "save as webpage" in Word 2007, but it produces all sorts of bad stuff. To wit: <b style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'> <span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> as well as a large block of XML formatting info: <!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:DocumentProperties> <o:Subject> </o:Subject> <o:Author> </o:Author> <o:Keywords> </o:Keywords> ... As I said, formatting it all by hand seems like a waste of time, but the way MS exports currently just has too much cruft. Is there a way to export MS Word doc as html without all this?

  I have a collection of strings that are XML content. I want to iterate thru my collection and build a CSV file to stream to the user for download (sometimes it can be hundreds in the collection).   i have some problems with configuring Spring MVC. I made a maven multi module project with the following modules: /api /domain /repositories /webapp I like to share the domain and the repositories between the api and the webapp (both web projects).   If I create an app.config file in a console apps like this <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <appSettings> <add key ="key1" value ="val1"/> </appSettings> </configuration> and access the same from the console application like object sourcePath = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["key1"]; or by object sourcePath = System.Configuration.ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings["key1"]; I am able to get the value. But if I do the same thing in a class library project, I am getting a null value. Why? Where I am making mistake? I have added the proper reference System.Configuration. I am using C# 3.0

• trouble resolving location in <xs:import > element in C#

  I'm using an XML schema document to validate incoming data documents, however the schema appears be failing during compilation at run time because it refers to a complex type which part of an external schema. The external schema is specified in a element at the top of the document. I had thought it might be an access problem, so I moved a copy of the external document to a localhost folder. I get the same error, so now I'm wondering if there might be some sort of issue with the use of the element. Then it fails with a type not declared error. The type that it's trying to find, KeyInfoType, is defined in one of the the documents in the import element. I've made sure the namespaces line up. I wondered if the # signs in the namespace definitions were causing a problem, but removing them had no effect, it just changed what the error looked like (i.e. "Type 'http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig:KeyInfoType' is not declared." versus "Type 'http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#:KeyInfoType' is not declared.") My suspicion is that there's something about the processing of the element that I'm missing. Any suggestions are very welcome. Thanks!

• Difference in DocumentBuilder.parse when using JRE 1.5 and JDK 1.6

  Recently at last we have switched our projects to Java 1.6. When executing the tests I found out that using 1.6 a SAXParseException is not thrown which has been thrown using 1.5. The Javadoc of the DocumentBuilderFactory.setSchema(Schema) Method says: When errors are found by the validator, the parser is responsible to report them to the user-specified ErrorHandler (or if the error handler is not set, ignore them or throw them), just like any other errors found by the parser itself. In other words, if the user-specified ErrorHandler is set, it must receive those errors, and if not, they must be treated according to the implementation specific default error handling rules. The Javadoc of the DocumentBuilder.parse(InputSource) method says: BTW: I tried setting an error handler via setErrorHandler, but there still is no exception. Now my question: What has changed to 1.6 that prevents the schema validation to throw a SAXParseException? Is it related to the schema or to the xml that I tried to parse?

• Nginx dynamic upstream configuration / routing

  I was experimenting with dynamic upstream configuration for nginx and cant find any good solution to implement upstream configuration from third-party source like redis or mysql. The idea behind it is to have a single file configuration in primary server and proxy requests to various app servers based on environment conditions. Think of dynamic deployments where you have X servers that are running Y workers on different ports. For instance, i create a new app and deploy. App manager selects a server and then rolls out a worker (Ruby/PHP/Python) and then reports the ip:port to the central database with status "up". At this time when i go to the given url nginx should proxy all requests to the specified ip:port upstream. The whole thing is pretty similar to what heroku does, except this proof-of-concept is not supposed to be production ready, mostly for internal needs. The easiest solution i found was using resolver with ruby-based DNS server. It works, nginx gets the IP address correctly, but the only problem is that you cant define port number for that IP. Second solution (which i havent tried yet) is to roll something else as a proxy server, maybe written in Erlang. In this case we need to use something to serve static content. • MultiPath configuration on RHEL5 and Clariion CX-300

  I have problem with discovering my FC-connected CX-300 storage. Frankly speaking I'm complete novice in FibreChannel, so step by step explanation would be appreciated. My configuration consist of two IBM HS20 blades with RHEL5.4 on board and 2x Qlogic ISP2422-based 4Gb Fibre Channel HBAs on each blade. As a FC switch there are two Brocades built in BladeCenter Chassis, and finally there is EMC Clariion CX-300. CX300, and Brocade switches should be configured properly, because they were working fine with previous configuration, which main defference was RHEL3 instead RHEL5.4 Below there is my output from several usefull commands: #lspci | grep Fibre 06:01.0 FibreChannle: Qlogic Corp. • DCOM configuration: accounts with same name but different passwords problem

  Hello, everybody! I'm experiencing troubles with DCOM configuration. Here is the case: I'm using some product which supports client-server interaction through DCOM, but the client won't get any access to the server if the attempt is being done from an account with a name which exists at the server as well, but has different password. Basically, if we try to access the server from the Administrator account which obviously present on the server machine, we will fail if client's Administrator password doesn't match server's one. After actively collaborating with the product's developer in attempts to localize the issue, he come across with resolution "can't be fixed" or, if you prefer to call a pikestaff a pikestaff than it's more likely a "don't know how to fix" resolution :). I believe there is a solution for this problem and I'm asking you, IT professionals, to help me out with this one. I do realize that the problem may be caused by the way the developer interact with DCOM and if so it can't be fixed be means of pure system configuration and the question should be asked at SO, but since I've bumped into the same behavior while working with file/printer sharing - Windows tried to simplify everything and used currently impersonated credentials to access the share, I hope the solution lies at system configuration layer. P.S. I believe that the actual software product I'm talking about is entirely irrelevant however my experience tell me that there always would be somebody who will think that it on the contrary is very relevant. • Reloading NAT configuration on a running VMWare Server 2.0.2

  I have a server running VMWare Server 2.0.2. The host is Debian Lenny. I have 15-20 virtual machines running, all attached to a single NAT network (named vmnet8). I have configured VMWare's NAT (the vmnet-natd daemon) to forward some incoming to ports to one of the VMs, since it hosts some publicly accessible services. I did this via the file /etc/vmware/vmnet8/nat/nat.conf by adding lines like the following: 80 = 192.168.100.100:80 This works great, I can reach the web server on the VM at 192.168.100.100 by connecting to the host's IP address. Sometimes, I need to add port redirections to this NAT configuration. So, I add a line to the configuration file. Now for the question. How do I make the natd process take this new configuration into account? Clearly, restarting the host machine does take it into account, and the newly added port is forwarded. However, this is not an option on this server, so how should one do this without restarting the whole host? Thanks for any ideas!
