    I'm using GitHub for code and Heroku for the deployment platform for my rails app. I don't want to have sensitive data under Git. Such data include database file settings (database.yml) and some other files that have secret API keys. When I deploy to heroku, how can I deal with files that are not under revision control. When I use Capistrano, I can write some hook methods, but I don't know what to do with Heroku.

  • Add a foreign key to existing tables in Rails (MySQL)

    What's the best way to add foreign keys to my existing tables in Rails with an underlying MySQL database? clearly the solution should be done in a migration, as I want this versioned. Otherwise I'd create the constraints myself. I can't seem to find one, conducive response to they above. Again, the tables have already been created with previous migrations. I'm just going back now and adding referential integrity wherever it's applicable.

    I want to write a map/reduce job to select a number of random samples from a large dataset based on a row level condition. I want to minimize the number of intermediate keys. Pseudocode: for each row if row matches condition put the row.id in the bucket if the bucket is not already large enough Have you done something like this? Is there any well known algorithm?   • Mysql / Django - Begin auto increment to 1

    Hi, I have a django script which loads data, the beginning of the script deletes all datas in database. So when I execute 1st time this script, the auto increment primary keys begin to 1 to 15 (if 15 objects) and if I want to reload data, I reexecute the script. My issue is when I execute it again, pks numbers begin to 16 (for 2nd launch), I would like each time auto_increment begins to 1, is it possible whitout regenerating tables structure each time ?   • I wrote a new X11 keyboard layout file, how do I get my system to recognize it?

    I like to configure my keys my way, so I wrote a keyboard symbols file and I put it in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/cat I use it by running setxkbmap cat -variant dvorak (and it works), but it doesn't show up in the console configuration (dpkg-reconfigure console-setup) nor in the Gnome keyboard settings... nor anywhere else, so I have to run setxkbmap every time. I suppose that I have to register it somewhere, but where? Any hints? Thanks!

    In PHP you can create form elements with names like: category[1] category[2] or even category[junk] category[test] When the form is posted, category is automatically turned into a nice dictionary like: category[1] => "the input value", category[2] => "the other input value" Is there a way to do that in Django? request.POST.getlist isn't quite right, because it simply returns a list, not a dictionary. I need the keys too.

So my question is how to find out type for my values in the dict. I mean if i say`int(val_dict['val1']) will give me error.
