  • How to Deal with SET ANSI_NULLS ON or OFF ?

    - by Shantanu Gupta
    I want to call this procedure that sends one value that can be NULL or any int value. SELECT DomainName, DomainCode FROM Tags.tblDomain WHERE SubDomainId =@SubDomainId I simply want to use this single query rather than what i m doing right now in below given code. I searched for this how could i do this then i got this Link. According to this I have to set ANSI_NULLS OFF I am not able to set this inside this procedure before executing my sql query and then reset it again after doing this. ALTER PROCEDURE [Tags].[spOnlineTest_SubDomainSelect] @SubDomainId INT AS BEGIN -- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from -- interfering with SELECT statements. SET NOCOUNT ON; -- Insert statements for procedure here IF @SubDomainId IS NULL SELECT DomainName, DomainCode FROM Tags.tblDomain WHERE SubDomainId IS NULL ELSE SELECT DomainName, DomainCode FROM Tags.tblDomain WHERE SubDomainId =@SubDomainId END What will be the better practice to do deal with ANSI_NULLS or Using If Else

  • How to change size of STL container in C++

    - by Jaime Pardos
    I have a piece of performance critical code written with pointers and dynamic memory. I would like to rewrite it with STL containers, but I'm a bit concerned with performance. Is there a way to increase the size of a container without initializing the data? For example, instead of doing ptr = new BYTE[x]; I want to do something like vec.insert(vec.begin(), x, 0); However this initializes every byte to 0. Isn't there a way to just make the vector grow? I know about reserve() but it just allocates memory, it doesn't change the size of the vector, and doesn't allows me to access it until I have inserted valid data. Thank you everyone.

  • Windows program written using MFC is a C++ program?

    - by kwc
    Hi, Every C++ books that I've read says something like this:- All C++ programs have a main() function. main() function is the starting point for all C++ programs. All C++ programs begin its execution from the main() function. However, I found that Windows programs written using MFC do not have any main() function. It use WinMain() function as the program starting point. So can I say that Windows program written using MFC is not a C++ program? Then, what kind of program it is? Thanks.

  • How Do Sockets Work in C?

    - by kaybenleroll
    I am a bit confused about socket programming in C. You create a socket, bind it to an interface and an IP address and get it to listen. I found a couple of web resources on that, and understood it fine. In particular, I found an article Network programming under Unix systems to be very informative. What confuses me is the timing of data arriving on the socket. How can you tell when packets arrive, and how big the packet is, do you have to do all the heavy lifting yourself? My basic assumption here is that packets can be of variable length, so once binary data starts appearing down the socket, how do you begin to construct packets from that?

  • Ruby: having callbacks on 'attr' objects

    - by JP
    Essentially I'm wondering how to place callbacks on objects in ruby, so that when an object is changed in anyway I can automatically trigger other changes: class MyClass attr_reader :proxy def proxy=(string_proxy = "") begin @proxy = URI.parse("http://"+((string_proxy.empty?) ? ENV['HTTP_PROXY'] : string_proxy)) @http = Net::HTTP::Proxy.new(@proxy.host,@proxy.port) rescue @http = Net::HTTP end end end m = MyClass.new m.proxy = "myproxy.com:8080" p m.proxy # => <URI: @host="myproxy.com" @port=8080> # However changing m.proxy will not change the @http variable, as proxy= is not being called. # Desired functionality: m.proxy = nil # Now @http.class is Net::HTTP, not Net::HTTP::Proxy

  • MySQL function return more than 1 row

    - by bobobobo
    I'd like to write a MySQL stored function that returns multiple rows of data. Is this possible? It seems to be locked at 1 row -- can't even return 0 rows. For example DELIMITER // create function go() RETURNS int deterministic NO SQL BEGIN return null ; -- this doesn't return 0 rows! it returns 1 row -- return 0 ; END // DELIMITER ; Returning null from a MySQL stored proc though, doesn't return 0 rows.. it returns 1 row with the value null in it. Can I return 0, or more than 1 row from a MySQL function, how?

  • difference between 2 pieces Python code

    - by draw
    Hello, I'm doing an exercise as following: # B. front_x # Given a list of strings, return a list with the strings # in sorted order, except group all the strings that begin with 'x' first. # e.g. ['mix', 'xyz', 'apple', 'xanadu', 'aardvark'] yields # ['xanadu', 'xyz', 'aardvark', 'apple', 'mix'] # Hint: this can be done by making 2 lists and sorting each of them # before combining them. sample solution: def front_x(words): listX = [] listO = [] for w in words: if w.startswith('x'): listX.append(w) else: listO.append(w) listX.sort() listO.sort() return listX + listO my solution: def front_x(words): listX = [] for w in words: if w.startswith('x'): listX.append(w) words.remove(w) listX.sort() words.sort() return listX + words as I tested my solution, the result is a little weird. Here is the source code with my solution: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/559353/list1.py. You might want to try it out.

  • C++ Boost bind value type

    - by aaa
    hello. I look in documentation and source code but cannot figure out how to get return value type of boost bind functor. I am trying to accomplish following: 35 template<typename T,size_t N, class F> 36 boost::array<typename F::value_type, N> make_array(T (&input)[N], F unary) { 37 boost::array<typename F::value_type, N> array; 38 std::transform(input, input + N, array.begin(), unary); 39 return array; 40 } where F can be bind functor. the above does not work because functor does not have value_type. for that matter, is there standard interface for unary/binary functor as far as return value. Thanks

  • Would like help with LOGON Trigger

    - by Risho
    I've created a logon trigger in MS SQL that needs to check dm_exec_sessions for a login. This login is the user listed in the connection string and has owner right to the database. If the login is verified, I need it to update a specific table and send an email. So far I've done just the following piece and it disabled my web site. The error I get is: "Logon failed for login 'dev' due to trigger execution. Changed database context to 'mydatabase'. Changed language setting to us_english." Any idea what I did wrong? Thanks, Risho CREATE TRIGGER TDY_Assets_Notification ON ALL SERVER WITH EXECUTE AS 'dev' FOR LOGON AS BEGIN IF ORIGINAL_LOGIN()='dev' AND (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM sys.dm_exec_sessions WHERE is_user_process = 1 AND original_login_name = 'dev') > 1 UPDATE Assets_TDY SET Suspense = 1, Warning = 1 WHERE (Date_Returned IS NULL) AND (GETDATE() >= DATEADD(day, 3, Date_Return)) END

  • How to link Delphi with C++?

    - by CyberShadow
    cpp.cpp extern "C" char* GetText() { return "Hello, world!"; } delphi.dpr {$APPTYPE CONSOLE} {$LINK 'cpp.obj'} function _GetText: PChar; cdecl; external; begin WriteLn(_GetText); end. I can't get this to work, no matter what I try. I tried various calling conventions, playing with underscores. even creating a .c wrapper for the .cpp code (but then the .c wrapper doesn't "see" any .cpp symbols). I'm about to give up and use DLLs. Any suggestions?

  • Why doesn't C++ allow you to request a pointer to the most derived class?

    - by Matthew Lowe
    (This question should probably be answered with a reference to Stroustrup.) It seems extremely useful to be able to request a pointer to the most derived class, as in the following: class Base { ... }; class DerivedA { ... }; class DerivedB { ... }; class Processor { public: void Do(Base* b) {...} void Do(DerivedA* d) {...} void Do(DerivedB* d) {...} }; list<Base*> things; Processor p; for(list<Base*>::iterator i=things.begin(), e=things.end(); i!=e; ++i) { p.Do(CAST_TO_MOST_DERIVED_CLASS(*i)); } But this mechanism isn't provided in c++. Why?

  • Get a return value from a screen'd command

    - by AndyMac
    I'm running a process in a screen (on Ubuntu 13.10, if it matters). I can execute a command within that screen with: screen -p 0 -X eval 'stuff \"$command\"\015' I'm not 100% sure what this command is doing to begin with, though it's functioning correctly. The reason behind it is I'm running a Minecraft server (still) and this screens in to the correct screen, and throws the command on the running command line. So that's good, so far. But what I'd like is to be able to run this command with a return value. So for example, if I were to run a "list" command, it'd tell me how many people and who is online, but I need to capture that output and put it somewhere. Anyone know of a way to accomplish this? I can't tell the minecraft server command line to redirect the output somewhere else since it doesn't have direct command line access, so the only way I could do this would be to grab all output of the screen while I'm connected ... but I'm not sure if that's possible.

  • SQL use comma-separated values with IN clause

    - by user342944

  • How does Facebook codes their Cropping tool?

    - by Trip
    I ask this because I am currently trying to work out my own technique, and there are huge strategic hangups for the entire site when your begin this. Of them are: Using jCrop and rMagick, it takes up a huge amount of processing ( to which I have backgrounded ). Because I have it backgrounded, I must by ajax develop a feature that auto-updates every five seconds to check when the backgrounding is done. Has anyone accomplished this with their sites? If so, what are some creative techniques you came across to keep the processing streamline, and the users happy?

  • Oracle - pl sql selecting from SYS_REFCURSOR

    - by Einstein
    I have a function that returns a SYS_REFCURSOR that has a single row but multiple columns. What I'm looking to do is to be able to have a SQL query that has nested sub-queries using the column values returned in the SYS_REFCURSOR. Alternative ideas such as types, etc would be appreciated. Code below is me writing on-the-fly and hasn't been validated for syntax. --Oracle function CREATE DummyFunction(dummyValue AS NUMBER) RETURN SYS_REFCURSOR IS RETURN_DATA SYS_REFCURSOR; BEGIN OPEN RETURN_DATA SELECT TO_CHAR(dummyValue) || 'A' AS ColumnA ,TO_CHAR(dummyValue) || 'B' AS ColumnB FROM DUAL; RETURN RETURN_DATA; END; --sample query with sub-queries; does not work SELECT SELECT ColumnA FROM DummyFunction(1) FROM DUAL AS ColumnA ,SELECT ColumnB FROM DummyFunction(1) FROM DUAL AS ColumnB FROM DUAL;

  • OpToSoapDomComv.TRefCache.FNodes contains references to non-existing XMLNodes

    - by Bascy
    In our D2007 application we are using a Webservice, accessed with a THTTPRIO object. When the TDatamodule containing the THTTPRIO object is Destroyed an access violation occurs. This AV is raised when the TSoapDOMConvert is freed, which in turn executes: TRefCache(RefMap[0].Instance).Free calling destructor TRefCache.Destroy; begin FHREFs.Free; FMHREFs.Free; FNodes := nil; //Causes AV end; FNodes is a TInterfaceList containing one reference to IXMLNodes, but the object seems to have been freed before all this. Does anyone know this problem? How to solve it?

  • How to get the number of loop when using an iterator, in C++?

    - by pollux
    Dear reader, I'm working on a aplication where I draw a couple of images, like this: void TimeSlice::draw(float fX, float fY) { list<TimeSliceLevel*>::iterator it = levels.begin(); float level_x = x; float level_y = y; while(it != levels.end()) { (*it)->draw(level_x,level_y); level_y += (*it)->height; ++it; } } Though this is a bit incorrect. I need to position the TimeSliceLevel* on a X.. When I've got a for(int i = 0; i < slices.size(); ++i) loop, I can use x = i * width. Though I'm using an iterator as I've been told many times that's good programming : and I'm wondering if the iterator has a "index" number of something which I can use to calculate the new X position? (So it's more a question about using iterators) Kind regards, Pollux

  • Ruby Methods: return an usage string when insufficient arguments are given

    - by Shyam
    Hi, After creating a serious bunch of classes, with initialize methods, loading them in IRb requires to look back at the code. However, I think it should be easy enough to return a usage message, instead of: ArgumentError: wrong number of arguments (0 for 9) So I prefer to return a string with the human readable arguments, by example using "puts" or just a return of a string. Now I have seen the rescue keyword inside begin-end code, but I wonder how I could catch the ArgumentError when the initialize method is called. Thank you for your answers, feedback and comments!
