  • How to Implement Dynamic Timestamp in Web Page?

    In Facebook and twitter, we can see that there is a timestamp like "23 seconds ago" or "1 hour ago" for each event & tweet. If we leave the page for some time, the timestamp changes accordingly. Since it is possible that user machine doesn't have same system time as server machine, how to make the dynamic timestamp accurate? My idea is: It is always based on server time. When request is sent to server for the web page, timestamp T1 (seconds to 1970/1/1) is rendered into inline javascript variable. The displayed timestamp ("23 seconds ago") is calculated by T1 instead of local time. I'm not sure whether this is how Facebook/Twitter do it. Is there any better idea?

  • In order to bypass a website's login screen, can you load a link with a username and password?

    I am relatively new to web development, and I was hoping I could get some pointers about the feasibility of a feature I would like to implement. Is it possible to have a url link that you can click on, that can contain login credentials for the website it is linking to, so as to bypass that websites login screen? In other words, can I make a link from my website to facebook, that would allow me to login right in to my facebook, from any computer? Meaning, if I don't have cookies to store my login info in, is it possible to login still? This is just a conceptual question, so any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

  • Are self-described / auto-descriptive services loosely or tightly coupled in a SOA architecture ?

    I consider a self-described / auto-descriptive service as a good thing in a SOA architecture, since (almost) everything you know to call the service is present in the service contract (such a WSDL). Sample of a non self-described service for me is Facebook Query Language (FQL http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/FQL), or any web service exchanging XML flow in a one String parameter for then parsing XML and performing treatments. Last ones seem further more technically decoupled, since technically you can switch implementations without technical impact on the caller, handling compatibility between implementations/versions at a business level. On the other side, having no strong interface (diluted into the service and its version), make the service tightly coupled to the existing implementation (more difficulty to interchange the service and to ensure perfect compatibility).     I have looked for some explanation on the exact usages for the set of standards known as OpenSocial. I need some clarification if I can use OpenSocial like the following. I would like to create one library used to community with an OpenSocial api for use in my website that will not 'behave' like an application described by common sites like facebook and myspace. I'm not making a myspace of facebook application, I'm creating my own website and I want users to be able to find friends. I would like to allow users to store usernames and passwords for various OpenSocial-supported social networks. I would also like to use the api to sync events from my web site to their specified social network. I would also like to allow my users to view a list of friends and invite them. Is it possible to create one library that supports OpenSocial and simple "point" to and social network that supports it to get a list of friends and etc?

  • Breaking change October: Status waiting when create custom audience with add user data file?

    In my system, I create a custom audience - data file - mobile advertiser ids with 10k user. After I created it, I refreshed API link to get information about the audience which I've just created: https://graph.facebook.com/act_xxx/customaudiences?fields=id,account_id,name,lookalike_spec,retention_days,subtype,approximate_count,rule,delivery_status,operation_status,data_source,permission_for_actions&limit=500&access_token=xxx. (After breaking change in October 2014, status field not return. So I see operation_status) I see that: "operation_status": { "code": 410, "description": "No file has been uploaded for this audience, or the previous upload has failed due to system error. Please try uploading the file again." } But after about 10s, I refresh again, and operation_status change to: "operation_status": { "code": 200, "description": "Normal" } My quetions is: how to check this audience's status is waiting ( uploading file) , like when I create on facebook not my our system. I am going to use it on my website and thinking it to share as iframe like facebook but I cannot think its securty because someone can develop a script that can click on it automatically. I thought a solution using sessions but I couldn't make an algorithm completely. How can I disallow autoclicks and which solution is the best? It can be any language I just want algorithm.   • Chrome back button issue for cross browser login

    I am logging in to the site using Janrain facebook login. On successful authentication from facebook i ll taken to the home page. From the home page i m navigating to other page. From that page when i click chrome browser back button, i am not taken to the home page. Instead i m taken to janrain page. Its working fine in chrome version 20. Problem in other version of chrome.     I want to get data using CURL but I have a problem. When I set the url like this $url = "https://graph.facebook.com/fql?q=SELECT name FROM page"; // continues I do not have anything returned. When I copy the browser url, this is $url = "https://graph.facebook.com/fql?q=SELECT%20name%20FROM%20page"; I get the results through CURL. I tried htmlentities and htmlspecialchars without luck.   • Spring server start-up event

    i am facing a problem. I am using tomcat server for my spring maven project and i want to subscribe my application to facebook once when server starts up. I have tried ApplicationListener ContextRefreshedEvent. It gets invoked on application context initialization, but the issue is at that time my server has not completely started and hence my application is not publically accessible which is required in my case as facebook subscription requires verification using application public URL. So i want to do subscription when my server gets started completey and not on application context initialization. Any idea how can i do it? Do i have nay application level event listener that can tell me that server has started completely? Regards jia

    Recently search engines have been able to page dynamic content on social networking sites. I would like to understand how this is done. Are there static pages created by a site like Facebook that update semi frequently. Does Google attempt to store every possible user name? As I understand it, a page like www.facebook.com/username, is not an actual file stored on disk but is shorthand for a query like: select username from users and display the information on the page. How does Google know about every user, this gets even more complicated when things like tweets are involved.

    I have an admin where users from multiple properties can enter in monthly statistics for twitter/facebook followers. We do not have access to the real data/db so this is why a manual entry. The form looks like this: Type ( radio, select **one** only ): - Twitter - Facebook Followers/Fans ( textfield ): Property (dropdown): Hotel A, Hotel B Date Start: mm/dd/yyyy (textfield) Date End: mm/dd/yyyy (textfield) Question 1.1: Since I am only keeping track of month per month, the date start/end fields which I have already created might be too specific. Would it be a better idea just to have a start month/year and and month/year if that's the only thing I care about? Question 1.2: What schema could I use for month to month statistics if I were to change the date start and end textfields to start month/year and end month/year dropdowns?

    The context: i have a project, that contains configs/ directory, which contains (surprise-surprise!) a set of config files: database.php, facebook.php, twitter.php, cache.php, etc What I did in svn: I have created branches per specific file and made changes there (changed database connections, facebook API keys, etc). So they were stored in my private branch. Now I'm trying to migrate to "modern" nowadays DSCM - Mercurial. And I cannot get any possibility of doing the same. Any ideas?

The server is set up with a single vhost on port 80, with Proxy & Proxypass directives to the Plone zinstance: ProxyPass / http://localhost:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/server:80/Plone/VirtualHostRoot/ ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/server:80/Plone/VirtualHostRoot/ However, I have some static HTML and PHP content that I want to display in an iframe via the plone site. I'm thinking I'll need to set up another vhost on a different port, then just specify the port # inline?

  • What's the best way I can import/display lyrics for iTunes on a mac?

    I'm currently using iClip Lyrics, but apparently it's being discontinued. It can't import lyrics from certain lyrics sites (such as wikia) because they've used some javascript/iframe mix to make copy/pasting difficult. I was wondering if there were other options that are better at importing lyrics automatically as well as displaying lyrics. Bonus points for solutions that handle unicode encoded characters too, since a good portion of my music library is asian.

    Someone was trying to get cute with me, by "iframeing" my search result page via an IMG tag with 0 width and 0 height, in hopes of killing my server resources. My searches are cached, so it doesn't do much damage, since its just a static file being served, but I was wondering if there was anything I can do to "fight back"? I know you can use a frame breaker, had it been an iframe. Is there anything to do in the case of an image?
