• How can you prevent a window being captured by Print-Screen?

  I noticed a few times than when I print-screen while Media Player is running, the content is replaced with a grey rectangle. I've no idea if it's deliberate due to DRM, or some technical issue, but it struck me that being able to deliberately block screen-capture might be a useful feature in some scenarios. Is there some specific message each HWND gets for print-screen - does Windows do a special repaint or simply dump buffers to the clipboard? I guess I'd prefer to focus this on Win32 specifically, but as long as it's Windows-related then fine.

• Load Empty Database table

  I am using SQLexpress and VS2008. I have a DB with a table named "A", which has an IdentitySpecification column named ID. The ID is auto-incremented. Even if the row is deleted, the ID still increases. After several data manipulation, the current ID has reached 15, for example. When I run the application if there's at least 1 row: if I add a new row, the new ID is 16. Everything is fine. If the table is empty (no row): if I add a new row, the new ID is 0, which is an error (I think). And further data manipulation (eg. delete or update) will result in an unhandled exception. Has anyone encountered this? PS. In my table definition, the ID has been selected as follow: Identity Increment = 1; Identity Seed =1; The DB load code is: dataSet = gcnew DataSet(); dataAdapter->Fill(dataSet,"A"); dataTable=dataSet->Tables["A"]; dbConnection->Open(); The Update button method dataAdapter->Update(dataSet,"tblInFlow"); dataSet->AcceptChanges(); dataTable=dataSet->Tables["tblInFlow"]; dataGrid->DataSource=dataTable; If I press Update: if there's at least a row: the datagrid view updates and shows the table correctly. if there's nothing in the table (no data row), the Add method will add a new row, but from ID 0. • visual studio qt5 plugins not working on release

  I'm got this project where i'm showing images with a qt5 interface, i'm simply setting the Pixmap of a label with the qimage pixmap The thing is, it's working on a debug build, but not on a release build and i dont understand why. I already got a folder in my .Exe folder named "plugins" and a subfolder in it named "imageformats", and in this folder the file named "qjpeg.dll" So i coming here to see if someone has an idea on why it doesn't work ? • MySQL - Counting rows in preparation for greatest-n-per-group not working?

  Referring to SO and other sites have given me examples of how to use MySQL to create a 'greatest-n-per-group' query. My variant on this would be to have a query that returns the first 3 rows of each category. As the basis for this I need to sort my data into a usable sequence and that is where my problems start. Running just the sequence query with row numbering shows that changes in category are mostly ignored. I should have 35 categories returning rows but only 5 do so. My query: set @c:=0; set @a:=0; SELECT IF(@c = tdg, @a:=@a+1, @a:=1) AS rownum, (@c:=tdg) , julian_day, sequence, complete, year, tdg FROM tsd WHERE complete = 0 order by tdg, year, julian_day, sequence Do I have a syntax mistake with this query?

  if I have 4 variables startTime; endTime; startMerid; endMerid; startMarid and endMarid are either going to be 'AM' or 'PM'. but startTime and endTime are going to be strings like 'dd:dd' so it may be start:12:30 PM and end:5:30 PM How can I validate that the end time is not before the start time?   I have some pages that are sent via HTTPS. Internet Explorer sometimes complains about "This webpage contains content that will not be delivered using a secure HTTPS". I looked in the html source to confirm all content calls (href, src, etc...) are sent via https. My CSS files use relative paths. But I'm still getting these warnings. Is there an easy way to track down which items are not sent via HTTPS?

• How big can a SQL Server row be before it's a problem?

  Occasionally I run into this limitation using SQL Server 2000 that a row size can not exceed 8K bytes. SQL Server 2000 isn't really state of the art, but it's still in production code and because some tables are denormalized that's a problem. However, this seems to be a non issue with SQL Server 2005. At least, it won't complain that row sizes are bigger than 8K, but what happens instead and why was this a problem in SQL Server 2000? Do I need to care about my rows growing? Should I try and avoid large rows? Are varchar(max) and varbinary(max) a solution or expensive, in terms of size in database and/or CPU time? Why do I care at all about specifying the length of a particular column, when it seems like it's just a matter of time before someones going to hit that upper limit?

  Hi, I've been messing with Haskell few days and stumbled into a problem. I need a method that returns a random list of integers ( Rand [[Int]] ). So, I defined a type: type Rand a = StdGen -> (a, StdGen). I was able to produce Rand IO Integer and Rand [IO Integer] ( (returnR lst) :: StdGen -> ([IO Integer], StdGen) ) somehow. • I can't find a DirectX installer to run from my installer.

  I tried this one. But it's the annoying one which asks you where to extract temp files, my users won't know what this means. I also tried the web installer, but you're not strictly allowed to use this. I don't really follow the windows setup stuff, but is there a single .EXE I am allowed to distribute and run, which just works (for DX 9.0C) with some command-line args? Or some other way, which can can described in idiot-proof steps and and called in one command-line argument from an installer script like Inno?

  We are using Maven for a large build process ( 100 modules). We have been storing our external dependencies in source control, and using that to update a local repo. However, we are ready to graduate to a local repo that can cache central so that we don't have to proactively download all 3rd parties (but we can still have a local repo to pull from). In addition we want to publish our internal build artifacts from a nightly build so that developers don't have to build the world. We are considering Nexus and Artifactory. What are the reasons for preferring one over the other? Are there others we should be considering?

  A guy came to me there recently with a half done web app that has been created using VB.NET, nothing major, just a normal site. His original programmer couldn't continue so he wants me to finish it. Problem is I don't program using VB.NET nor have I any intention of learning it for a project this small. • Confusion over manual/automatic sizing of Flash Sprite Objects

  If I have a custom class subclassing Sprite and it draws some simple objects, how does this work with respect to the Sprite.width & Sprite.height properties? It seems I can draw (for example) a rectangle of any size, bigger than the Sprite size. Similarly if I set the width/height properties, what happens to the content already drawn? As a use-case, I might have a stick-man which is drawn as a set of lines, I want to set the man's height and the rendering is scaled to this. Are there any issues with width/height being auto-calculated or am I misunderstanding what these properties actually mean?

  The latest changesets to Ruby 1.9.2 no longer make the current directory . part of your LOAD_PATH. I have a non-trivial number of Rakefiles that assume that . is part of the LOAD_PATH, so this broke them. Was there a particular justification for doing this? As for a fix, adding $: << "." everywhere works, but seems incredibly hacky and I don't want to do that. What's the preferred way to make my Rakefiles 1.9.2+ compatible?

• Converting OpenGL coordinates to lower UIView (and UIImagePickerController)

  I am new to OpenGL on the iPhone. I am developing an iPhone app similar to a barcode reader but with an extra OpenGL layer. The bottommost layer is UIImagePickerController, then I use UIView on top and draw a rectangle at certain coordinates on the iPhone screen. So far everything is OK. Then I am trying to draw an OpenGL 3-D model in that rectangle. I am able to load a 3-D model in the iPhone based on this code here - http://iphonedevelopment.blogspot.com/2008/12/start-of-wavefront-obj-file-loader.html I am not able to transform the coordinates of the rectangle into OpenGL coordinates. Appreciate any help. Do I need to use a matrix to translate the currentPosition of the 3-D model so it is drawn within myRect? • Does a servlet-based stack have significant overheads?

  I don't know if it's simply because page-loads take a little time, or the way servlets have an abstraction framework above the 'bare metal' of HTTP, or just because of the "Enterprise" in Jave-EE, but in my head I have the notion that a servlet-based app is inherently adding overhead compared to a Java app which simply deals with sockets directly. Forget web-pages, imagine instead a Java server app where you send it a question over an HTTP request and it looks up an answer from memory and returns the answer in the response. You can easily write a Java socket-based app which does this, you can also do a servlet approach and get away from the "bare metal" of sockets. Is there any measurable performance impact to be expected implementing the same approach using Servlets rather than a custom socket-based HTTP listening app? And yes, I am hazy on the exact data sent in HTTP requests and I know it's a vague question. It's really about whether servlet implementations have lots of layers of indirection or anything else that would add up to a significant overhead per call, where by significant I mean maybe an additional 0.1s or more.

• Why does my git push hang after successfully pushing?

  On a newly set up ssh git repo, whenever I push, I get normal output like this: ? git push Counting objects: 15, done. Delta compression using up to 4 threads. Compressing objects: 100% (9/9), done. Writing objects: 100% (9/9), 989 bytes, done. Total 9 (delta 7), reused 0 (delta 0) It happens very quickly, and the changes are immediately available on the server repo. But the output hangs there for about a minute, and then finishes with: To [email protected]:baz.git c8c391c..1de5e80 branch_name -> branch_name If I control-c before it finishes, everything seems to continue to be normal and healthy, locally and remotely. What is it doing while hanging? Is something configured incorrectly on the server side?

  My question is similar to this one. Background I'm creating a large number of objects in a core data store using NSOperations to speed things up. I've followed all the Core Data multithreading rules - I've got a single persistent store coordinator and a managed object context per thread that on save is merging back to the main managed object context. The Problem When the number of threads running at once is more than 1, I get the exception logged on save of my core data store: NSExceptionHandler has recorded the following exception: NSInternalInconsistencyException -- optimistic locking failure What I've Tried My code that creates new entities is quite complex - it makes entities that have relationships with other entities that could be being created in a separate thread. If I replace my object creation routine with some very simple code just making non-related entries, everything works perfectly. Initially, as well as the exceptions, I was getting a save error saying core data couldn't save due to the merge failing. I read the docs and realised I needed a merge policy on the Managed Object Context I was saving to. I set this up and as this question states, the save error goes away, but the exception remains. My Question Do I need to worry about these exceptions? If I do need to get rid of the exceptions, any ideas on how I do it?

Can I access the variables from that page in the page that loads it. e.g. Page A uses JQuery load function to load B Page B loads and sets a variable in context called pageB_var which holds a django object Page A can then access this variable by doing {{pageB_var}} since it was added to the context If not what is the best way of doing this?
