• Hudson's FindBugs plugin reports line number "-1" for bugs. Ideas?

  Greetings, I have a simple test project set up in Hudson and the project's build process (a batch file) generates a findbugs.xml file. This is processed by Hudson's FindBugs plugin but it shows the line number of the bugs as "-1" instead of their actual line number. A coworker suggested I enable debug info for the compiler. I used the -g "Generate all debugging info" option for javac but nothing seemed to change. My build command is: javac -g -classpath C:\testWebApp1\src -d C:\testWebApp1\build C:\testWebApp1\src\*.java The only other thing in the build.bat file is a call to the FindBug tool (text UI). Here is what the FindBugs Plugin says about the first bug: File: GenerateHellos.java, Line: -1, Type: UUF_UNUSED_FIELD, Priority: Normal, Category: PERFORMANCE Any ideas? Thanks a ton!

• What are you supposed to do with old SVN branches?

  We had a SVN branch recently that had been merged back to trunk, and some more work on that feature/functional area was needed. I suggested using the same branch but was told you shouldn't re-use a branch once it has been integrated into trunk (a reference in SVN docs was given, I can't find it now). That suggests a branch is fairly useless once you merge back to trunk, so my question is once a branch is no longer needed, should it simply be deleted or kept?

• Changing style sheets depending on useragent

Above is the start of my code. I am trying to change the CSS file depending on what platform the user is using. I currently use media="screen ... " but it doesn't work with the amount of platforms I'm trying to use. I need something a lot more detailed/complex that is why I'm turning to useragents. Any ideas why the css file doesn't change on my iPhone using the above code? Better yet, any ideas on another way to change style sheets depending on the users platform/screen resolution?

• How big can a SQL Server row be before it's a problem?

  Occasionally I run into this limitation using SQL Server 2000 that a row size can not exceed 8K bytes. SQL Server 2000 isn't really state of the art, but it's still in production code and because some tables are denormalized that's a problem. However, this seems to be a non issue with SQL Server 2005. At least, it won't complain that row sizes are bigger than 8K, but what happens instead and why was this a problem in SQL Server 2000? Do I need to care about my rows growing? Should I try and avoid large rows? Are varchar(max) and varbinary(max) a solution or expensive, in terms of size in database and/or CPU time? Why do I care at all about specifying the length of a particular column, when it seems like it's just a matter of time before someones going to hit that upper limit?

• Haskell and random numbers

  Hi, I've been messing with Haskell few days and stumbled into a problem. I need a method that returns a random list of integers ( Rand [[Int]] ). So, I defined a type: type Rand a = StdGen -> (a, StdGen). I was able to produce Rand IO Integer and Rand [IO Integer] ( (returnR lst) :: StdGen -> ([IO Integer], StdGen) ) somehow. Any tips how to produce Rand [[Int]]?

• Shared Git repo syncing to svn causing git svn rebase to pollute repo with a log of no-op merge prob

  This wasn't so bad at the beginning, but now I have hundreds of no-op merge problems (solved by git rebase --skip). I have setup a shared git repo for my group because it is easier to deal with. But the company uses SVN so I have to keep SVN in sync with GIT. Worked like a dream at first, but after weeks of doing this GIT is giving me a lot of the following errors. Applying: * making all config actions work Using index info to reconstruct a base tree... Falling back to patching base and 3-way merge... Auto-merging app/controllers/vulnerabilities_controller.rb CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in app/controllers/vulnerabilities_controller.rb Auto-merging public/javascripts/network_analysis_vulnerability_config.js CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in public/javascripts/network_analysis_vulnerability_config.js Failed to merge in the changes. Patch failed at 0046 * making all config actions work My workflow: git co master git pull origin git svn rebase ... deal with no-op merge problems ... git svn dcommit git pull origin git push origin The problem is that what is in SVN is the correct so I use git rebase --skip, but I have to do that hundreds of times before I can dcommit. How do I clear these merge problems permanently?

• How can you prevent a window being captured by Print-Screen?

  I noticed a few times than when I print-screen while Media Player is running, the content is replaced with a grey rectangle. I've no idea if it's deliberate due to DRM, or some technical issue, but it struck me that being able to deliberately block screen-capture might be a useful feature in some scenarios. Is there some specific message each HWND gets for print-screen - does Windows do a special repaint or simply dump buffers to the clipboard? I guess I'd prefer to focus this on Win32 specifically, but as long as it's Windows-related then fine.

• What's a very easy C++ profiler (VC++)?

  I've used a few profilers in the past and never found them particularly easy. Maybe I picked bad ones, maybe I didn't really know what I was expecting! But I'd like to know if there are any 'standard' profilers which simply drop in and work? I don't believe I need massively fine-detailed reports, just to pick up major black-spots. Ease of use is more important to me at this point. It's VC++ 2008 we're using (I run standard edition personally). I don't suppose there are any tools in the IDE for this, I can't see any from looking at the main menus?

  I'm got this project where i'm showing images with a qt5 interface, i'm simply setting the Pixmap of a label with the qimage pixmap The thing is, it's working on a debug build, but not on a release build and i dont understand why. I already got a folder in my .Exe folder named "plugins" and a subfolder in it named "imageformats", and in this folder the file named "qjpeg.dll" So i coming here to see if someone has an idea on why it doesn't work ? • Core Data Errors vs Exceptions Part 3

  My question is similar to this one. Background I'm creating a large number of objects in a core data store using NSOperations to speed things up. I've followed all the Core Data multithreading rules - I've got a single persistent store coordinator and a managed object context per thread that on save is merging back to the main managed object context. The Problem When the number of threads running at once is more than 1, I get the exception logged on save of my core data store: NSExceptionHandler has recorded the following exception: NSInternalInconsistencyException -- optimistic locking failure What I've Tried My code that creates new entities is quite complex - it makes entities that have relationships with other entities that could be being created in a separate thread. If I replace my object creation routine with some very simple code just making non-related entries, everything works perfectly. Initially, as well as the exceptions, I was getting a save error saying core data couldn't save due to the merge failing. I read the docs and realised I needed a merge policy on the Managed Object Context I was saving to. I set this up and as this question states, the save error goes away, but the exception remains. My Question Do I need to worry about these exceptions? If I do need to get rid of the exceptions, any ideas on how I do it?

  A guy came to me there recently with a half done web app that has been created using VB.NET, nothing major, just a normal site. His original programmer couldn't continue so he wants me to finish it. Problem is I don't program using VB.NET nor have I any intention of learning it for a project this small. Usually I would run from something like this but I need the cash. Should I take the project and continue it using C# or just leave it. Has anyone had a similar experience and how did it turn out.

• Easy way to determine what content is not delivered using a secure HTTPS connection?

  I have some pages that are sent via HTTPS. Internet Explorer sometimes complains about "This webpage contains content that will not be delivered using a secure HTTPS". I looked in the html source to confirm all content calls (href, src, etc...) are sent via https. My CSS files use relative paths. But I'm still getting these warnings. Is there an easy way to track down which items are not sent via HTTPS?

• PHP fails silently when function not defined?

  I am migrating from PHP4 to PHP5 I have this in my .htaccess: php_flag display_errors on php_value error_reporting 2039 Which used to show all errors. I am still getting some errors but I used to get an error when I called a function that was not defined, but now it stops where it is at and send the client everything up to the error and nothing after. With no error message. Here is what phpinfo is telling me: Directive Local Value Master Value display_errors On Off error_reporting 2039 6143 I would like to be able to see my error messages for trouble shooting purposes. Can someone tell me what I need to do? Thanks!!

I have a function void foo(istream& input) { input = cin; } This fails (I'm assuming because cin isn't supposed to be "copyable". however, this works void foo(istream& input) { istream& baz = cin; } Is there a reason that I can get a reference to cin in baz but I cannot assign it to input? • How to run a command on a remote Windows system as a non-admin user with WMI?

  I have a script written in Visual Basic that starts a process (given to the script as an argument) on a remote system (again, given as an argument) using WMI. This script works fine when using an Administrator account on the remote system, but when using a non-administrator account, I get the following error: ConnectServer Failed w/ (-2147024891) Access is denied. I'd like to be able to run processes on remote systems as a non-administrator user with this script, and I'm pretty sure the problem is due to security settings on the remote system, but I've not been able to reset the right ones.

• SVN: change a past revision and have the change in current

  ok say I am on revision 4. I check it out, make some change and commit it. I am not on revision 5. I check it out again, am making some changes, but I am informed that there was a typo from revision 5 that needs to be changed right away. I don't want to fix it in my current working copy because I am in the middle of something and it wont be ready to commit yet. But I don't want to revert back to revision 5 and loose all my work. what I want to do is go back to revision 5, make the small change, commit it. And ALSO have that change made to my current working copy as well. I hope that makes sense. Is there a way to do that?

• Confusion over manual/automatic sizing of Flash Sprite Objects

  If I have a custom class subclassing Sprite and it draws some simple objects, how does this work with respect to the Sprite.width & Sprite.height properties? It seems I can draw (for example) a rectangle of any size, bigger than the Sprite size. Similarly if I set the width/height properties, what happens to the content already drawn? As a use-case, I might have a stick-man which is drawn as a set of lines, I want to set the man's height and the rendering is scaled to this. Are there any issues with width/height being auto-calculated or am I misunderstanding what these properties actually mean?

I am trying to read with ifstream and convert it. string things = "10 11 12 -10"; int i1; int i2; int i3; int i4; stringstream into; into << things; into >> i1; into >> i2; into >> i3; into >> i4; I expect it to be : i1 = 10 i2 = 11 i3 = 12 i4 = -10 is that correct? Can the same stringstream variable be used multiple times? When I tried, the first time was ok but everything else later on is just 0.

  I am first time to write a camera app. At program, I am using setRequestedOrientation(ActivityInfo.SCREEN_ORIENTATION_LANDSCAPE) and android:screenOrientation="landscape" in Manifest to set the landscape screen. My problem is when use System.exit() or Intent. The screen will change to portrait automatically. But in my program, it haven't set any screen orientation again. How can I prevent this problem?   This is a fairly common problem, it probably has a name, I just don't know what it is. A.) User sees obscure piece of information in Row B of L_OBSCURE_INFO displayed on some screen at a certain point. It is in table L_Obscure_info. B.) Under certain circumstances we want to correctly delete data in L_OBSCURE_INFO. Unfortunately, nobody accounted for the fact that the user might want to backtrack and see some random piece of information that was most recently in L_OBSCURE_INFO. C.) The system is enormous and L_OBSCURE_INFO is used all the time. You have no idea what the ramifications are of implementing some kind of hack and whatever you do, you don't want to introduce more bugs. I think the best approach would be to create an L_OBSCURE_INFO_HISTORY table and record a record in there every time you change data. But god help your ensuring it's accurate in this system where L_OBSCURE_INFO is being touched everywhere and you don't have time to implement L_OBSCURE_INFO_HISTORY. Is there a particularly easy, clever design solution for this kind of problem -- basically an elegant database hack? If not, is this kind of design problem under a particular class of problems or have a name?

• Bitmap manipulation as a referenced object

  I am working with a Bitmap object that I add annotations or copyright material to the image and then return the modified bitmap. My problem is that the Bitmap won't hold the changes made to it as it moves along the chain. I am treating it as a reference type and would assume that as it gets passed to each class it would carry the changes made to it. I have verified that the code inside of the MarkImage() classes does function, but which ever one gets called last is the one that has changes. • MySQL - Counting rows in preparation for greatest-n-per-group not working?

  Referring to SO and other sites have given me examples of how to use MySQL to create a 'greatest-n-per-group' query. My variant on this would be to have a query that returns the first 3 rows of each category. As the basis for this I need to sort my data into a usable sequence and that is where my problems start. Running just the sequence query with row numbering shows that changes in category are mostly ignored. I should have 35 categories returning rows but only 5 do so. My query: set @c:=0; set @a:=0; SELECT IF(@c = tdg, @a:=@a+1, @a:=1) AS rownum, (@c:=tdg) , julian_day, sequence, complete, year, tdg FROM tsd WHERE complete = 0 order by tdg, year, julian_day, sequence Do I have a syntax mistake with this query?
