• Call to a member function ... on a non-object

  Okay so I've been typing some HTML code for a technology class that I need to satisfy for my Education major. This is what i have for my background: body { background-image:url('islandbeach.jpg'); background-repeat:repeat; background-position:center; background-attachment:fixed; background-size:cover; } Now, I want to make my background transparent or faded so I can see the text and the other image that I have. The background is too colorful to be able to see the words without having to squint. Are there any HTML codes that can do this for me? I am not a pro at this stuff, I've just been following everything my professor has told me to do so please explain stuff in baby steps if you do have an answer. Thank you so so much!

For Fusion Applications, the use of OER has been extended to include other integration asset types such as interface tables and other technical information such as data models, tables, views, lookups, profile options, et cetera. E-Business Suite users familiar with iRepository or eTRM will recognize the functionality in Fusion Applications OER. Oracle Enterprise Repository for Fusion Applications provides a common catalog of technical information, searchable using many different mechanisms. Customers can locate technical information by the name, description or keyword of the information they are looking for. They can also search by the type of asset they are trying to locate and/or where the asset sits in the product taxonomy. They can also see the how the asset dances in the choreography of some illustrative co-existence scenarios. • A Panorama of JavaOne Latin America

  As you know, JavaOne Latin America 2012 was held at the Transamerica Expo Center in Sao Paulo, Brazil on December 4-6. It was a resounding success with a great vibe, excellent technical content and numerous world class speakers, both local and international. Various folks like Tori Wieldt, Steve Chin, Arun Gupta, Bruno Borges and myself looked at the conference from slightly different colored lenses. It's interesting to put them all together in a panoramatic collage: Tori wrote about the Sao Paulo Geek Bike Ride held the Saturday before the conference here (enjoy the photos and video). She also discusses the keynotes in great detail here. Steve looked at it from the viewpoint of someome instrumental to putting the event together. Read his thoughts here (he has more geek bike ride photos as well as material for his JavaFX/HTML 5 talk). Arun had a more holistic view of the conference. He covers the geek bike ride, the GlassFish party (organized by Bruno Borges), his Java EE talks, and more. Check out the cool photos as well as the technical material.   I have a person model that is animated and a suitcase model that is not. The person can pick up the suitcase and it should move to the location of the hand bone of the person model. Unfortunately the suitcase doesn't follow the animation correctly. it moves with the hand's animation but its position is under the ground and way too far to the right. I haven't scaled any of the models myself. Thank you. • What would you do if you were asked to recommend on someone you are not professionally satisfied with?

  Where I live, everyone in the IT business knows just about everyone else. This is why it is quite common here to get a phone call from a recruiter asking for your professional opinion regarding people you've been working with in the past, or to be asked by a friend for a recommendation. This is all nice and well until you are asked to recommend on someone you weren't quite satisfied with professionally. There are several problems I can think about: Recommending on unskilled people is generally inadvisable. It is unprofessional and hurts your reputation. Giving this person a bad recommendation will probably hurt his chances of getting the job, and refusing to recommend on someone is just as bad as giving a bad recommendation. It may be that the new employer will be happy with this person's skills, is it fair to deny this guy of the chance to start a new page and prove himself in a new place? Many times you really like this person and are very uncomfortable with the idea of giving him a bad recommendation or refusing his request to recommend on him. What would you do in each of this cases: If this person asked you to recommend on him personally If you got a phone call from a recruiter asking for your opinion on him Thanks!

• Is it wise for a programmer to move into management?

  Many times, a developer has suggested that I become a team leader because I'm motivated, but during my career in the IT industry, I've seen so many people who are great at programming, move into management and they are miserable. I've also seen many managers return to programming stating "I'm a technical person, I like technical problems". If this is such a common thing, why do developers feel compelled to leave the technical domain and move into management? Sure you'll have more money and more control, but if you don't enjoy your work and take your problems out on your tream. Secondly, I've been asked in developer interviews, "Would you consider leading a team?" and I'm always tempted to cite the Peter Principle based on what I've seen. I am interested in furthering myself, but not in the way the company may want i.e "Vice President of department blah". To be honest, I've seen this more often in the corporate world than in small development houses and it's always put me off ever going back to a corporate environment. I just feel that this is becoming more and more the norm and it's impacting team morale and degrading the quality of the work. Question: Based on what I've said, Is it a smart move for a technical person to move into management?

• Facebook contest policy no-no?

  I would like to post a link on a Facebook page where it will exit Facebook entirely and go to a client's website, where people will be on a page (client's) where they can enter their e-mail address to be entered in a temporary database file with rules and disclosures etc., for a draw once the number of entries reaches 100 for instance. Once the number of entries reaches 100, a random winner is picked and notified via E-mail. The functionality is as follows: A link is place on a Facebook page leading to an external page The page is a form to merely enter their email address for a contest The email is placed in a temporary file An automatic E-mail is sent to the address used for confirmation using SHAH-256 hash The person receives the Email saying something to the affect "Please confirm your Email address etc. - If you did not authorize this, simply ignore this message and no further action will be taken". If the person clicks on the confirmation link, the Email is then stored in the database and the person is again notified saying "Thank you for signing up etc." Once others do the same process and the database reaches a certain number, the form is no longer accessible and automatically picks a random Email. Once picked, an Email is automatically sent to the winner stating the instructions, and notifying me also. Once that person clicks yet another confirmation link, the database is then automatically deleted. I have built this myself and have no intentions of breaking any rules, nor jeopardize the work/time/energy I have put into this project. Is this allowed?

  Typically we follow an Agile development process that tends not to put an emphasis on writing requirements and technical documents that nobody will read. We tend to focus our limited manpower to development and testing activities with collaborative design and whiteboarding as a key focus. There is a mostly standalone web component that will take quite a few weeks to develop, but this work can be mostly parallel with other project work going on. To try and catch up time I was given a budget for hiring a developer on oDesk to complete this work. While my team isn't accustomed to working off of a firm SRS document, I realize that with outsourced development that it is a good idea to be as firm and specific as possible so I realize that I need to provide a detailed Requirements and Technical Specification document for this work to be done correctly. When I do write a Requirements document I typically utilize the standard IEEE SRS document template but I think this is too verbose and probably overkill for what I need to communicate to a developer. Is there another requirements document that is more lightweight and also accepted by a major standards organization like the IEEE? Further, as what will be developed as a software module that will interact with other software modules, my requirements really need to delve into technical specifications for things to work correctly. In this scenario does it make sense to merge technical and requirements specifications into a single document, and if not, what is a viable alternative?

The kind of system you see in a camera shop / store, e.g. in the UK, Jessops and Boots stores. This is for my Dad who is adept at general PC usage as a notebook owner, but would prefer something fairly simple. The task of burning photos to CD/DVD, in their original photo file .jpg form, i.e. NOT as CD or DVD video or slideshow, is what I'm looking for. I'm guessing this might be possible in Picasa, but all the options available might be superfluous and confusing. He could probably learn to use that but thought I would try simpler options first. And, if I am not locking non-static fields, then how do I lock an instance method without locking the method on all other instances of the same or derived class?
