  • How do you assign resources and keep begin, end and duration of a task intact?

    I have problems with assigning more than one resource to a group of tasks. The idea is simple, my tasks are in one group and are manually scheduled to particular begin and end dates. I want to assign more than one resource to keep task duration and dates (fixed duration) and increase work. For top level tasks it works fine but as long tasks are grouped, the duration of each is extended to reach group end date and work remains. For the problematic tasks, the Gantt chart looks like this: One resource attached (good) ( Task 1.1 ) ( Task 1.2 ) (Task 1.3) More than one resource attached (wrong) ( Task 1.1 )....................... ( Task 1.2 ).......... (Task 1.3) So for tasks like that, I want to have a fixed schedule and just increase work by adding resources that work in the same time, but sometimes MS Project does leveling to do resources work sequentialy.

  • Align text with bottom as it comes in during a chat?

    I'm building a custom web chat application, and while I have the basics worked out, I've been wondering if this was possible... right now, the chat comes in at the top of the div, and when it reaches the bottom, the div starts scrolling. This works. This is great. But I was wondering if it was possible to create it more like an IRC client, where the chat comes in initially at the bottom of the div, then each new line comes in below the old ones, etc, and again, when the div is full, it starts scrolling. I've managed to get part of this working: I can get it displaying this way. But I can't find a way to scroll it; either the scroll doesn't appear (when there's no overflow on the inner, text div, despite there being an overflow on the outer, container div), or it's confined to the width of the text rather than the width of the container div. Some options I've tried: <div id="chatbox" style="overflow: auto; position: relative; width: 100%; height: 400px;"> <div id="chatmessages" style="overflow: auto; position: absolute; bottom: 0;"></div></div> This has the text appear properly at the bottom, but no scrollbar ever appears. <div id="chatbox" style="overflow: auto; position: relative; width: 100%; height: 400px;"> <div id="chatmessages" style="overflow: scroll; position: absolute; bottom: 0;"></div></div> This has the text appear properly at the bottom, and a scrollbar appears, but it's only ever as wide as the text, even if width=100%... and when the text reaches the top, the scrollbar remains gray. Basically, do I want the scrollbar on the inner or the container div, is this even possible, how do I force it to work, and am I going about this entirely wrong?

  • Z-index bug with IE6.. can't seem to figure this one out

    I am working on this gorgeous header here at : http://kayaskitchenbelmar.com/test/header.html Unfortunately, in IE6, the drop downs that come off of the Print and View buttons collapse on to a new line. This is because of the common z-index bug. I tried resolving this by making the parent div have a higher z-index and position relative with its child a lower z-index and position absolute, but that didn't seem to work. Possibly I'm missing something obvious? Thanks so much

  • css displaying divs inside a Tr fine in FireFox, but IE increases the width of the row...

    I'm having some difficulty figuring out what is going on and how to fix it. I have some divs that contain some icons that are causing a width problem when displaying tabular data. If I remove the div's that contain the icons, the row width ends up the way I want it (See the firefox example below).   • How can I scale movement physics functions to frames per second (in a game engine)?

    I am working on a game in Javascript (HTML5 Canvas). I implemented a simple algorithm that allows an object to follow another object with basic physics mixed in (a force vector to drive the object in the right direction, and the velocity stacks momentum, but is slowed by a constant drag force). At the moment, I set it up as a rectangle following the mouse (x, y) coordinates. Now, the tricky part: my question is, if I change this to a different framerate (say, 30 FPS), how can I modify the force and drag values to keep the movement constant? That is, right now my rectangle (whose position is dictated by the x and y variables) moves at a maximum speed of about 4 pixels per second, and accelerates to its max speed in about 1 second. BUT, if I change the framerate, it moves slower (e.g. 30 FPS accelerates to only 2 pixels per frame). So, how can I create an equation that takes FPS (frames per second) as input, and spits out correct "drag" and "force" values that will behave the same way in real time?   • Update on ASP.NET MVC 3 RC2 (and a workaround for a bug in it)

    Last week we published the RC2 build of ASP.NET MVC 3.  I blogged a bunch of details about it here. One of the reasons we publish release candidates is to help find those last “hard to find” bugs. So far we haven’t seen many issues reported with the RC2 release (which is good) - although we have seen a few reports of a metadata caching bug that manifests itself in at least two scenarios: Nullable parameters in action methods have problems: When you have a controller action method with a nullable parameter (like int? – or a complex type that has a nullable sub-property), the nullable parameter might always end up being null - even when the request contains a valid value for the parameter. [AllowHtml] doesn’t allow HTML in model binding: When you decorate a model property with an [AllowHtml] attribute (to turn off HTML injection protection), the model binding still fails when HTML content is posted to it. Both of these issues are caused by an over-eager caching optimization we introduced very late in the RC2 milestone.  This issue will be fixed for the final ASP.NET MVC 3 release.  Below is a workaround step you can implement to fix it today. Workaround You Can Use Today You can fix the above issues with the current ASP.NT MVC 3 RC2 release by adding one line of code to the Application_Start() event handler within the Global.asax class of your application: The above code sets the ModelMetaDataProviders.Current property to use the DataAnnotationsModelMetadataProvider.  This causes ASP.NET MVC 3 to use a meta-data provider implementation that doesn’t have the more aggressive caching logic we introduced late in the RC2 release, and prevents the caching issues that cause the above issues to occur.  You don’t need to change any other code within your application.  Once you make this change the above issues are fixed.  You won’t need to have this line of code within your applications once the final ASP.NET MVC 3 release ships (although keeping it in also won’t cause any problems).     I’m excited to announce the September 2012 release of the Ajax Control Toolkit! This is the first release of the Ajax Control Toolkit which supports the .NET 4.5 framework. We also continue to support ASP.NET 3.5 and ASP.NET 4.0. With this release, we’ve made several important bug fixes. The Superexpert team focused on fixing the highest voted issues associated with the CascadingDropDown control. I’ve created a list of these bug fixes later in this blog post. You can download the latest release of the Ajax Control Toolkit by visiting the following page at CodePlex: http://AjaxControlToolkit.CodePlex.com Alternatively, you can install the latest version of the Ajax Control Toolkit using NuGet by firing off the following command from the Package Manager Console: Install-Package AjaxControlToolkit Using the Ajax Control Toolkit with ASP.NET 4.5 Let me walk through the steps for using the Ajax Control Toolkit with ASP.NET 4.5. First, I’ll create a new ASP.NET 4.5 website with Visual Studio 2012. I’ll create the new website with the ASP.NET Web Forms Application template: When you create a new ASP.NET 4.5 site with the ASP.NET Web Forms Application template, you get a starter website. If you run the site, then you get a page with default content: Let me show you how you can add the Ajax Control Toolkit Calendar control to the homepage of this starter site. The first step is to use NuGet to install the Ajax Control Toolkit. Right-click the References folder in the Solution Explorer window and select the menu option Manage NuGet Packages. In the Manage NuGet Packages dialog, use the search box to search for the Ajax Control Toolkit (enter “AjaxControlToolkit”). After you find it, click the Install button to add the Ajax Control Toolkit to your project. That’s all you have to do to install the Ajax Control Toolkit! Now we are ready to start using the Ajax Control Toolkit controls. Open the default.aspx page so we can modify the contents of the page. Erase everything contained in the Content control with the ID of BodyContent. After erasing the content, declare the following two controls: <asp:TextBox ID="vacationDate" runat="server" /> <ajaxToolkit:CalendarExtender TargetControlID="vacationDate" runat="server" /> The first control is a standard ASP.NET TextBox control and the second control is an Ajax Control Toolkit Calendar control. You should get intellisense as you type out the Ajax Control Toolkit Calendar control. If you don’t, then close and re-open the Default.aspx page. Now, let’s run our app. Hit the F5 button or select Debug, Start Debugging from the Visual Studio menu. You will get the error message “MsAjaxBundle is not a valid script name”. Don’t despair! We need to update the Master Page so it uses the ToolkitScriptManager instead of the default ScriptManager. Open the Site.Master file and find where the ScriptManager is declared.   • index.html redirecting to cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi

    This problem has been persisting over the last couple of days. I thought I fixed it Friday only to get in on Monday morning and see that cPanel is still giving me issues. On Friday, all incoming traffic to my index.html page were being redirected to cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi. Upon further investigation, I found that my entire index.html code had been overwritten and contained only a single meta tag, which was causing the aforementioned redirect. I re-uploaded the original index page and overwrote the one that was causing the redirects and it seemed to have fixed the problem. Fast forward to Monday. The problem began happening again and I took the same steps as before to fix it, but now I'm wondering how to permanently stop this from happening. From what I've found, it's related to cPanel. I personally did not make any changes to the server, but there are a few people with access who might have. I'm on a VPS with my own dedicated IP address. I've been hosting fine for a few months without this problem. The server is runs a traditional LAMP stack.

I have always received the question regarding how to reserve leading zeroes in SQL Server while displaying them on the SSMS or another application. I have written articles on this subject over here. I am using the same sample sent by user in this example.   • Git: Fixing a bug affecting two branches

    I'm basing my Git repo on http://nvie.com/posts/a-successful-git-branching-model/ and was wondering what happens if you have this situation: Say I'm developing on two feature branches A and B, and B requires code from A. The X node introduces an error in feature A which affects branch B, but this is not detected at node Y where feature A and B were merged and testing was conducted before branching out again and working on the next iteration. As a result, the bug is found at node Z by the people working on feature B. At this stage it's decided that a bugfix is needed. This fix should be applied to both features, since the people working on feature A also need the bug fixed, since its part of their feature. Should a bugfix branch be created from the latest feature A node (the one branching from node Y) and then merged with feature A? After which both features are merged into develop again and tested before branching out? The problem with this is that it requires both branches to merge to fix the issue. Since feature B doesn't touch code in feature A, is there a way to change the history at node Y by implementing the fix and still allowing the feature B branch to remain unmerged yet have the fixed code from feature A?
