  The program evaluation and review technique (PERT) shows relationships between defined tasks in a project without taking into consideration a time line. This chart is an excellent way to identify dependencies of tasks based on other tasks. This chart allows project managers to identify the critical path of a project to minimize any time delays to the project. According to Craig Borysowich in his article “Pros & Cons of the PERT/CPM Method stated the following advantages and disadvantages: “PERT/CPM has the following advantages: A PERT/CPM chart explicitly defines and makes visible dependencies (precedence relationships) between the WBS elements, PERT/CPM facilitates identification of the critical path and makes this visible, PERT/CPM facilitates identification of early start, late start, and slack for each activity, PERT/CPM provides for potentially reduced project duration due to better understanding of dependencies leading to improved overlapping of activities and tasks where feasible.  PERT/CPM has the following disadvantages: There can be potentially hundreds or thousands of activities and individual dependency relationships, The network charts tend to be large and unwieldy requiring several pages to print and requiring special size paper, The lack of a timeframe on most PERT/CPM charts makes it harder to show status although colors can help (e.g., specific color for completed nodes), When the PERT/CPM charts become unwieldy, they are no longer used to manage the project.” (Borysowich, 2008) Traditionally PERT charts are used in the initial planning of a project like in a project that is utilizing the waterfall approach. Once the chart was created then project managers could further analyze this data to determine the earliest start time for each stage in the project. This is important because this information can be used to help forecast resource needs during a project and where in the project. However, the agile environment can approach this differently because of their constant need to be in contact with the client and the other stakeholders.  The PERT chart can also be used during project iteration to determine what is to be worked on next, such as a prioritized To-Do list a wife would give her husband at the start of a weekend. In my personal opinion, the COTS-centric environment would not really change how a company uses a PERT chart in their day to day work. The only thing I can is that there would be less tasks to include in the chart because the functionally milestones are already completed when the components are purchased. • Enabling EUS support in OUD 11gR2 using command line interface

  Enterprise User Security (EUS) allows Oracle Database to use users & roles stored in LDAP for authentication and authorization.Since the 11gR2 release, OUD natively supports EUS. EUS can be easily configured during OUD setup. ODSM (the graphical admin console) can also be used to enable EUS for a new suffix. However, enabling EUS for a new suffix using command line interface is currently not documented, so here is the procedure: Let's assume that EUS support was enabled during initial setup.Let's o=example be the new suffix I want to use to store Enterprise users. • "Error in the Site Data Web Service." when performing crawl

  Installed SharePoint Services v3 (SP2, october 2009 cumulative updates, Language Pack), attached to a content database I had previously (all works). Installed Search server 2008 Express (with language pack) on top of WSS and crawl does not work. However it works for newly created web application + database. Was playing around with accounts, permissions to try get it working. Currently I have WSS_Crawler account with such permissions: Office Search Server runs with WSS_Crawler account Config database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler Content database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler WSS_Crawler is owner of search database. Added WSS_Crawler to SQL server browser user group and administrator Yes, i'v given more permissions than needed, but it doesn't even work with that and i don't know if its permission problem or what. Crawl log says there is Error in the Site Data Web Service., nothing more. There were known issues with a similar error: Error in the Site Data Web Service. (Value does not fall within the expected range.), but this is not the case as thats an old issue and i hope it has been included in SP2... Logs are from olders to newest (descending order). They don't appear to be very helpful. • Connection speed drops from 1 Gbps to 10 Mbps (Vista 64)

  I recently got a Windows Home Server (HP MediaSmart Server EX490) setup so I could do backups and other things. However, I am having trouble on my Vista 64 PC. The backup will be making great progress, then it will just slow down. At one point, I noticed the lights on my Netgear GS105 indicated it was not using a 1000 Mbps connection, but a 10 Mbps one. I checked the Status of Local Area Connection (Intel(R) 82567V-2 Gigabit Network Connection) and that also showed the same slow speed. This has happened several times in the last couple days. When I disabled the network device, and then enabled it, it established the 1 Gpbs connection again. However, some of the times the Sent Bytes Activity on the Status windows indicate that the data flow is still slow (100 to 1000 bytes every couple seconds). Obviously, at this rate I could backup faster to floppy disk. :) My question is how to diagnose and fix this problem. When I look at the Administrative Events, I do a Errors: Bonjour Service 456: ERROR: read_msg errno 10054 (An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.) And a Warning: e1yexpress Intel(R) 82567V-2 Gigabit Network Connection Link has been disconnected. I am suspicious there is some power saving mode. I found a post suggesting System Idle Power Saver(SIPS) may be the issue. I am going to try that, but looking for other suggestions or diagnostic advice. I have several new items in this configuration: server, client software, switch and cat6 cables.

• Linksys wireless router will not hardware reset.

  Hello, all. I'm unable to make my router perform a hardware reset, and I cannot understand why. All was working well, except that my iPhone could not connect to the wireless. I found that the router was only allowing AES encryption on WPA2 Personal mode, so I upgraded the firmware. I updated the firmware to Ver.1.06.1, and everything went screwy. The router is no longer showing up in the WiFi list (as Linksys, or its previous network name). Wiring into the router gives me an IP address from my ISP (24.121.121.XXX). Attempting to do a hardware reset, but the power light never starts flashing and the router does not seem to reboot. My machine wired in is still online with no interruption in WoW. Pulling the power cord to force a reset returns it to the same state. I even went so far as to pull up my previous IP address (from DynDNS) and try to connect to that, but it wont even ping. What I'm trying to find out is: Did the new firmware fry the thing, or is there some way to fix this? Thanks in advance for any help.

• Why would my wireless cut in and out every minute or so?

  I've been having problems with my wireless. I moved to a new apartment, and the wireless seems incredibly unreliable. Sometimes it will be stable for hours until, all of a sudden, it starts cutting in and out. I'll get 30-90 seconds of normal behavior, then 5-30 seconds of nothing, then repeat. Sometimes the connection will stop working entirely, until I power-cycle the router. It is extremely, extremely annoying. Surfing the web isn't too bad, assuming you can stand the random 5-30 second waits. But some connections are sensitive enough to timeout, and it certainly makes multiplayer games unplayable. Facts: I confirmed the problem using ping google.com -t. I get normal traffic, interspersed with bursts of "Request timed out.". I've never had this problem before with this laptop. I didn't bring my own router or modem to the apartment. I'm using what the old tenant had. Hooking directly to the modem via an ethernet cable results in a stable connection. Temporarily cutting power to the router sometimes fixes the problem. Sometimes it doesn't. I reset the router, but the problem remained. Apparently the previous tenant had issues with the internet, but I don't know what they were specifically. The router is a D-Link DIR-615, and their tech support is useless.

• Slowdown upon router/modem setup change

  I’ve been using a Belkin FSD7632-4 modem router to connect to my TalkTalk provided ADSL internet connection for some time and been pretty happy with it. Recently, however, the connection has been failing and I decided to get a ASUS RT-N16 instead, which is also a much more capable router generally. The ASUS RT-N16 doesn’t come with a modem built-in so I purchased as Zoom modem as well. I’ve set them both up and am using them to post this message. But I’m a bit miffed to find that I get a significantly and consistently slower downstream rate from the new configuration than with the old Belkin. Belkin modem router: downstream: 3.45 mbps upstream: 0.73 mbps ASUS router + Zoom modem: downstream: 2.71 mbps upstream: 0.66 mbps Any ideas why this is? The really weird thing about this is that the Zoom supports ADSL2 and ADSL2+ but I don’t think the old Belkin does. At first I thought it might be due to the Zoom modem being limited to PPPoE instead of PPPoA, which my ISP supports, but then I tried using PPPoE with the Belkin and that still gave a high speed. I’m using VC-Mux encapsulation with both. VPI of 0 and VCI of 38. • Wake-on-lan only works so many times

  I have Wake-on-lan configured on my Windows XP machine so that the computer will wake up from Standby. Waking the computer from Standby via network traffic seems to work a certain number of times, say 4 or 5, then it stops working. If I restart the computer it seems to reset this behavior so that I can use WOL a few more times before it starts working. I use the command "wol" on my other, Linux machine with the appropriate IP address and MAC address of the card. I looked at the network card to see if it had different lights when WOL worked and when it didn't. When it has a solid amber light where the ethernet cable connects, WOL seems to work. When it has a flashing amber light, WOL does not. It seems that the system seems to almost "shut off" the card when it falls to sleep, but I don't know if this is a function of time or number of standby/wakeups. I have a 3Com 3c920 network card. If I look at the properties in Device Manager, I have "Allow this Device to bring the Computer out of Standby" checked. In the Advanced tab I have anything related to RWU (Remote Wake Up) enabled. I also believe I have the appropriate settings in BIOS related to Remote Wake-Up and I have tried both S1 and S3 power configurations in the BIOS. Intuitively, I would think I would uncheck "Allow the Computer to turn off this device to save power", but doing so disables the "Allow this Device to bring the Computer out of Standby" option. Does anyone know what is happening here or if there is a way to fix it? I have an integrated network card; would getting one that goes into a slot be better? I am running Windows XP on a Dell Optiplex GX240 with a 3Com 3c920 network card.

• computer fails to boot during/after POST for five or six boots, then works

  For the last few days, my computer has had issues booting. I've seen two different behaviors: The screen displays the graphics card information, then begins to list the RAM, hard drives, etc. At different points in this process (after the graphics info), the computer shuts off. After five or six attempts, it then boots normally. In roughly the same time frame, the computer freezes, and fails to boot. I think it boots successfully on the next attempt. I've also noticed that in some instances, the computer freezes on shutdown. It gets right to the point where it should shut off, but doesn't. I recently combined the best parts of two different machines into this one. I'm booting to GRUB, with Ubuntu 12.04, Linux Mint 11 and Windows Vista (unfortunately) as my OS options. It has an Enermax Modu82+ 525W power supply, and I've used an online calculator to determine that my load shouldn't exceed 400W. I even unplugged a hard drive, but that didn't help. I found the latest BIOS, patched it and checked the settings, but that didn't fix it. I'm fairly certain this issue didn't exist at first, but might have started when the power at my new apartment dropped for a second. The machine is plugged into a surge protector strip, but it's old and I've heard they lose effectiveness with age. Is a power dip as damaging as a spike? If something were damaged, why would it boot successfully after five or six attempts? It's almost like the BIOS or PSU need to be primed. The trouble with debugging is that there seems to be a "grace period" after shutdown where the issue doesn't present itself again. What should I try next?

  After installing VirtualBox unity seems to be uninstalled.. Launcher and task bar are missing. I can't access terminal from the normal ctrl alt T command. I tried logging into TTY mode but it says my login is incorrect. I am trying to login with my normal ubuntu username and password. I have searched for solutions but since I dont have terminal or TTY I cant bash out any commands, and I have tried safeboot but the root terminal always says it cant run whatever command I enter. I am really lost and I am trying to avoid a fresh install :( I greatly and genuinely appreciate any help! This is the computer I use for college!

glynis-desktop (key glynis-desktop) I intend to display the Potential vulnerability found field and the corresponding score alone. There seems to be about 9995 entries and I would like to display all of them. I have been using this command as of now awk '/CVSS Score is/ < /Potential vulnerability found/' output.txt but this seems to display only the name of the vulnerability or the score. How do I display this in file(text,excel) such that all the vulnerability and the corresponding score willbe displayed. Any help would be appreciated Thank you.

• How do I pipe terminal standard output (stdout) to the clipboard?

  For example, Say I want to list the contents of a folder and directly paste them into a chat window for a friend to see. I realize I could do ls > filename.txt to create a file (filename.txt) with those contents; I'd then have to open or print the file and manually select and copy the text block (which can be annoying/tedious.) I clearly could also select and copy the output of ls directly from within the terminal window. It would be much faster/easier to simply pipe standard output to the clipboard. What terminal command allows me to do this?

  Here is the summary. VirtualBox 4.2.18 Host OS: Windows 7 Guest OS: Ubuntu 12.04 Networking: Bridged Adaptor I can ping Host and other machines in host's network from ubuntu guest using hostnames. But, I can only ping the guest machine using IP address from host and network machines. I have avahi-daemon running on Guest OS. I want to be able to ping/ssh the guest machine from host and other machines on network using hostname of the guest machine. Please help.

• Copy or Export Byobu screen?

  One of the best things about byobu is the scrollback feature in a given session. I have been working on something, and I have tons of lines in the current scrollback session and I want to copy everything to a file, how to?? According to the screen home page, looks like you can do this? but when I'm done I do a search for all those files, can't find them. C-a h (hardcopy) Write a hardcopy of the current window to the file "hardcopy.n". C-a H (log) Begins/ends logging of the current window to the file "screenlog.n". Ctrl-a ~ - Save the current window's scrollback buffer there's also enter, copy mode, select with space key, and press enter to copy, I do that, the screen displays gibberish for 10 seconds refreshes, done. cat >> ~/log.output << COMM --paste using ctrl a ] I think-- COMM this confirms the copy paste works, but when I press enter, nothing get saved to that log file, I've checked, I do have write privileges in my home directory. lol the select all, from the xfce4-terminal doesn't go far enough, and scrolling back with the mouse, well won't work, no need to try it, I know byobu buffer doesn't work like that.

• Delete directory by referencing symbolic link

  To set up the question, imagine this scenario: mkdir ~/temp cd ~/ ln -s temp temporary rm -rf temporary, rm -f temporary, and rm temporary each will remove the symbolic link but leave the directory ~/temp/. I have a script where the name of the symbolic link is easily derived but the name of the linked directory is not. Is there a way to remove the directory by referencing the symbolic link, short of parsing the name of the directory from ls -od ~/temporary?

• Enable remote VNC from the commandline?

  I have one computer running Ubuntu 10.04, and is running Vino, the default VNC server. I have a second Windows box which is running a VNC client, but does not have any X11 capabilities. I am ssh'd into the Ubuntu host from the Windows host, but I forgot to enable VNC access on the Ubuntu host. On the Ubuntu host, is there a way for me to enable VNC connections from the Ubuntu commandline? Update: As @koanhead says below, there is no man page for vino (e.g. man -k vino and info vino return nothing), and vino --help doesn't show any help).
