    This is my first time using StackOverflow. I am trying to read a text file which consists of a single number one the first line. try { Scanner s = new Scanner(new File("HighScores.txt")); int temp =Integer.parseInt(s.nextLine()); s.close(); return temp; } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } However, I get an error: java.util.NoSuchElementException: No line found at java.util.Scanner.nextLine(Unknown Source) at GameStart.getHighScore(GameStart.java:334) at GameStart.init(GameStart.java:82) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) I know that HighScores.txt is not empty, so why is this problem occuring? I tried using BufferedReader, and BufferReader.readLine() return null.

This article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918760 says: Method 3: Set the SSIS Package ProtectionLevel property to EncryptSensitiveWithPassword Change the SSIS Package ProtectionLevel property to EncryptSensitiveWithPassword. This setting uses a password for encryption. You can then modify the SQL Server Agent job step command line to include this password. That all sounds well and good. But where and how to you specify the password?   • sed find pattern on line with another pattern

    I am trying to extract text from a file between a '<' and a '', but only on a line starting with another specific pattern. So in a file that looks like: XXX Something here XXX Something more here XXX <\Lines like this are a problem ZZZ something <\This is the text I need XXX Don't need any of this I would like to print only the "<\This is the text I need". If I do sed -n '/^ZZZ/p' FILENAME it pulls the correct lines I need to look at, but obviously prints the whole line. sed -n '/</,//p' FILENAME prints way too much. I have looked into grouping and tried sed -n '/^ZZZ/{/</,//} FILENAME but this doesn't seem to work at all. Any suggestions? They will be much appreciated. (Apologies for formatting, never posted on here before)

I don't know what's happened yesterday which cause my application halts on Application.Initialize line in source code and does not return to next line when i trace the program.   • Line breaks in XML are ignored by the SAX Parser

    I am parsing an XML with some CData that contains line breaks. The parser ignores these line breaks. I am trying to figure out a way to catch these newlines in the characters() method and replace them with a break tag for display purposes. I have tried almost everything under the sun and have been scouring stackoverflow for the past 3 hours. I tried every combination of replacing "\n", "\r\n" and so on with a break tag in the characters() method of the parser. I am absolutely helpless right about now.... and would sincerely appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!!!

I run paste -d" " t.tex tE.tex | sed 's@$@XXX@' > tM.tex where the problem is in the use of the mark $ for the end of the line. I get #paste -d" " t.tex tE.tex | sed -e s/" "/\\\&/g | sed -r "s/XXX/" > tM.tex sed: -e expression #1, char 10: unterminated `s' command make: *** [all] Error 1 I have the command just after the "all:" tag in my makefile which contains only the two lines. The parameters -n and -e do not help here. The command works as expected run when it is run directly in terminal.

  • Log4J - Speed of resolving class/method/line references

    Does log4J still gather the class, method and line numbers by generating exceptions and inspecting the stack trace? Or has Java been optimized since Sun included their own logging framework. If not, why has there not been any optimizations made since. What is the main challenges in obtaining class, method and line numbers quickly and efficiently? Although I hate annotations and try to avoid them, has log4J not made use of this, such as: @log4j-class MyClass @log4j-method currentMethodOne At least this would avoid some companies bad habit of repeatedly writing/copying the method name as the first part of their logging message (which is seriously annoying).     Today I got into a debate with my project manager about Cartesian products. He says a 'natural join' is somehow much better than using 'select from where' because the later cause the db engine to internally perform a Cartesian product but the former uses another approach that prevents this. As far as I know, the natural join syntax is not any different in anyway than 'select from where' in terms of performance or meaning, I mean you can use either based on your taste. SELECT * FROM table1,table2 WHERE table1.id=table2.id SELECT * FROM table1 NATURAL JOIN table2 please elaborate about the first query causing a Cartesian product but the second one being somehow more smart

    I have a file in the format: Port Number IP address Port Number IP address (Not sure how the output will be displayed here but let me tell you they are on separate lines) and so on.... I use the command grep -C 1 'port number' file.txt i.e. I want all IP addresses corresponding to a particular port. Making it simple, I want the next line matching a regular expression. Like if my regular expression matches line 2,4 and 6 then I want lines 3, 5 and 7 to be printed. How to do that?

  • Eclipse debug - line: not available

    I can't seem to find anything on google telling me why this might be and what the resolution is. I'm Stepping through third party code (that I have the source for) and would really like to see the current line being executed... Looking at javac compile flags, I see the -g:none flag. If this flag is set, would this be enough to explain why I'm not able to see line numbers? If so, why would someone do this, are there performance implications? Do I need to recompile the jar myself to attach the missing debug info (if possible)? Thanks!

  • Company wants to write custom project management tool, rather then use third party product.

    At the company I work, we are really wanting to get into the agile methodology for developing software. One thing that I'm not excited about is the fact that management wants us to build a custom project management feature inside the company's Intranet. I think this is a total waste of time. There are many great third party tools available (e.g. Axosoft OnTime) that can do everything we need, and more. For how much development time it would cost us to build our own project management module, we could buy numerous licences for a third party product. One concern is that, whilst we are writing code for a client, and using our custom Intranet project management module, we find bugs in the module that need fixing ASAP. That means having to stop work on the client code to fix the Intranet. That just puts shivers down my spine. Another worry I have is lack of functionality. This custom module is going to be so basic, that it will just feel really crap to use. That might sound a bit snooty, but for goodness sake, many third party tools are so feature rich, that the idea of having to write our own tool makes feel very uneasy. In fact, I can't be bothered. What do you guys think? I'm going to raise this issue with my boss, since I feel it's such an important topic to talk about. EDIT: Thanks for the great responses, much appreciated. To summarize some of them: Money Naturally my boss does want to save money, by not forking out a few hundred £'s for licences. However, for us to write a custom tool, it will take x number of days, multiplied by approx £500, which is our costs. I don't see the business value in this. Management have mentioned that they want to sell the Intranet as a product in the future, but it's so custom to our needs (and downright basic), that in order to give it to another client, I can see us having to fork a version of the code and rebuild the majority of it anyway. So it's not like we're gaining anything there in reuse. Features Having our own custom module means not feature bloat - only the functionality we require will be in the product. My issue is that there are plenty of free, open-source project management tools out there with minimal features already. So even if cost is an issue, we could look into open-source. Again it all boils down to the fact that I don't see the point in writing a project management tool in this day and age. It's a bit like writing your own web browser - why?, what's the point? Although management are asking for this tool, just because they are, it does not mean I'm going to please them and do it just because they asked for it. If something does not make sense, then I will raise it as a concern. At the end of the day, it's the developers who write the code, it's the developers who make money for a business. Thus, as far I'm concerned, the devs have a very big role in deciding how a company should manage projects and what tools are used.
