• Error "403 Forbidden" on Sharepoint Search Settings Page

  Hello I thought I had solved this nightmare by re-entering the values in my SSP properties set up, however accessing the Search Settings page error has reared it ugly head again. Please guys how do I get around this access denied issue. Thanks

• Error when starting Outlook 2007 on Windows 7

  Every time I start Outlook 2007 SP2 on my Windows 7 box Outlook will look like its loading fine, then I get this error message: cannot start microsoft office outlook. cannot open the outlook window and outlook will close. I was able to get outlook to start by using outlook.exe /resetnavpane in the Start-Search box, a nice tip which I got from this social.microsoft.com page. But it didn't fix the problem since outlook is still complaining when it starts after a reboot. What can I do to get outlook to startup normally?

• Website pages very slow to load on first access

  I have a production web server that makes sites to be very slow when load for first time. After the first time all connections are normal and fast. In the following screen you can see the first test I have run for a random site in my server: and here you can see the result of the second time request: As you can see there is a big change in the second load of the same page. Here is the page load time graph: My problem is that I don't really know anything about Red Had Linux server, and also I don't know where can I start. Can somebody to help me ? I like to find out the solution for the long time "wait" in connection. I know that my question is very minimal, but you can always ask me to give you information about the server.

• SQL Server 2008 Install fails error reading etwcls.mof

  I receive the following error when trying to install Sql Server 2008 Standard on a Windows Server 2008 box. Error reading from file D:\x64\setup\sql_engine_core_inst_msi\PFiles\SqlServr\MSSQL.X\MSSQL\Binn\etwcls.mof. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it. When searching the interwebs I only find information about compiling this file but not reading. The file exists in the location requested. I have run the WMIDiag tool and there doesn't seem to be any issues. I am not sure what else I can do to solve this issue and can't seem to find anything on the internet about it. • Speedup vmware esx guest hdd access

  Hello, we run several windows servers and windows clients on our vmware esx. One of the Windows 2003 Servers is a build-server with major HDD-reads/writes. as it is our build server. This machine was a hardware before and was virtualized to the ESX. Is there any way to increase the HDD-Performance? Perhaps there are special windows (guest) drivers? The files are stored on a Raid6 base. Performance graph of vmware infrastructure client shows reads up to 650 KBps and writes up to 4000 KBps. Thank you. Regards, Uwe

  I usually do my web dev on a production server, now i need to bring some work at home. I have installed XAMPP on my laptop and it seems to work perfectly fine. Most of my project involves CURL enabled, I need to make my xampp application to access the internet. Perhaps give it some IP address and Gateway. I've seen documentation how to enable CURL on xampp, yet I'm struggling to find how to make XAMPP to have internet access. I'm not asking how to access my XAMPP remotely, I'm simply asking how to give internet connection to xampp application for my CURL and other social network API to work.

• Memory usages in Linux drops frequently

  I run a CentOS 5.6 (64bit) machine that has Nginx (latest version) running, with php-fpm (latest version). Things run very well, but since about 2 weeks I noticed in my Munin graphs that about every 2 hours the 'cache' usages drops. Before it used be a steady fully graph, that didn't seem to reset every so often. PHP-FPM settings: pm.max_children = 300 daemonize = yes pm = static listen = /tmp/fpm.sock pm.max_requests = 1000 I have checked the php-fpm.log, and about once per 5 seconds a child process is killed, and restarted. But this is all the time, so this does not explain the sudden drops. I only run Nginx, PHP (via fpm), Munin and vsftpd on this machine. No crons run at exactly the time of the drops. My question: What could be causing these drops in cache usage?

• Registering OCX on 64-bit Windows 7

  I want to use MSCOMM control in my MS Excel 2010 VBA. The control shall appear in Tools-> Additional Controls dialog box in VBE of MS Excel 2010. I am trying to register MSCOMM32.OCX on my 64-bit Windows 7 machine. However, as I try to register it using regsvr32 as shown in the command window below, I am getting shown error popup. What am I missing here? Why is this component not getting registered? Or this is not the correct way to include MSCOMM control in MS Excel VBA? • Where are ethernet errors logged?

  Munin is showing me a graph like this: During that spike, I was unable to access my server through the eth0 port (I could access it through my IPMI port). I'm trying to figure out what happened, but I can't seem to locate any log files for eth0. I don't see anything in /var/log/(kern|syslog|messages) that is out of the ordinary. And I don't see a log file specifically for eth0. Are there logs for eth0, and if so, where can I find them? I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

• Munin "Disk usage" is too high?

  I've recently installed munin on my VMware client server and saw that the Disk usage shows about 80-90%. Everything else (cpu load, ram, etc.) seems to be running fine. I have only two virtual hosts on my server with 1000 users/day in total, so I don't think that's too much. Here is the graph for the disk usage. Server info: Debian Lenny, CPU 510Mhz, RAM 512MB Is it bad? What could possibly cause this? Thank you for any suggestions.

  for Windows 7 Home Edition: can anyone recommend a tool to monitor network traffic? either build-in or 3rd-party. I like to have a graph view (e.g. as in Task Manager) but also nice are tool that lets me see what IP/port that's incoming/outgoing. Command line is fine. Or even some tutorial. Thanks. (am old unix sys admin and web app dev. Though not much of a network admin and don't know much Windows. I need this tool just for my home PC, not in any pro capacity.)

• SSIS DSN Not Showing as ODBC Data Source

I found this which seemed promising: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2000277 I was not able to delete the key but followed but I did what was suggested: "If unable to delete the key, double-click the key and erase the Data value entered. Once done, the value should read ' (value not set) '" However, after following the instructions my System DSN still does not appear as an option. The USER DSN however does show...has shown but does not work as I get a permissions error. Any ideas?

• How to efficiently merge a lot of vCard files for the same person?

  I currently have contact information at several places: old PDA's address book mobile phone's phone book (primarily name, phone number) email client's address book (primarily name, email) web mailer's address book (primarily name, email) instant messenger's contact list (primarily name, im, email, birthday) And there are several social or business networking sites on the Internet where contacts provide information about themselves, like LinkedIn or XING. All those sources can export as vCard, but as you might imagine, I get a lot of vCards for the very same contact that way. Are there any tools where I can import them and then merge them (it may ask me which phone number is more current in case of field clashes of course)? Bonus points if it can track which information I have discarded so when I re-export all information from one of the sources I can't import to (networking sites), it won't ask me again if I want to overwrite phone number of person X with the same ancient number... I hope you understand what I try to accomplish, if not just ask :-)

• USB transfer speed "logarithmically" decreases. Why and can it be improved?

  I have an external hard drive. Just today I tried to copy a bigger file (it was film of ~230 MB) and at first it rushed up until ~70%. There is started decreasing. At first it started at around 56 MB/s Then it rapidly dropped to 23 MB/s (File transfer was 70% complete) Then it slowly started decreasing until it was around 2 MB/s (File was ~90% complete) When it finished the transfer it was slightly above 1.5 MB/s. To describe it graphically: If you drew a curve of the decrease it would probably resemble the graph of a logarithm function So, what I'm really asking is: "Why does this happen?" and "Is there a way around it?" • HP Compaq T20 Thin Clients & Windows Server 2008 R2: RDP Disconnects instantly.

  Hello, I have some HP Compaq T20 Thin Clients connecting to a Windows Server 2003. Now I want to upgrade to 2008 R2, so I tested a trial installation with remote desktop in administration mode. So I try to connect my T20 to the server and... It doesn't matter if I turn off encryption or not it disconnects with an generic error instantly. The T20s have Windows CE embedded with RDP 5.2 installed. Out of curiosity I tried Windows Server 2008 (no R2) and it worked! I tried the same with a Windows 7 machine set up with- no work. I can not update the T20s to Windows NT embedded for example because they only have a low amount of flash memory. It seems the "new" version of RDP coming from Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008 R2 is completely incompatible with the older 5.2 version. • When to increase AWS RDS MySQL Server instance to larger CPU/RAM?

  I'm wondering at what stage do I need to increase the image for the RDS MySQL server to a larger CPU/RAM instance. The CPU utilization graph is near 0. The Avg Free Memory is around 150MB. The Avg Swap Usage is 420MB. Read Latency is 0-20ms/op it spikes up randomly. Avg write latency is on average 5ms/op but spikes up to 10-20ms/op. Are there some common rules here that I should follow? Thanks!

• can't add sharepoint users from trusted domain

  I have a very strange problem with our Sharepoint 2007 implementation. I went in today to grant access to a user and was greeted with "The user does not exist or is not unique." Let me start off by saying that this user is not on our domain we have a 2 way trust connecting to one of our subsidiaries. I can see the users in the people pick but can't add them into Sharepoint. This problem flared up after we had some trust issues last two days ago. So I must ask has anyone came across this error and if so what steps did you take to resolve it? • How can I speed up my Windows Server 2008 VPN Connection?

  So I've installed VPN service that comes with Windows Server 2008. Works perfectly, etc. When a client remote desktops to one of the private servers at the office, via VPN .. it's pretty slow. Now - how long is a piece of string? So before I get all the obligatory checks, I'll list the things from Mr. Obvious: Our modem/router (fritz!box) has a data/graph that shows incoming and outbound bandwidth. Both directions are barely getting used when a client has RDP'd via VPN. Our office internet connection is running at 21,9 Mbit/s download 1,3 Mbit/s upload. I feel like it's maxing at .. modem speeds ?? Is there any tricks I can do to confirm this and possibly even fix this?

• MySQL started to consume about 40% of system CPU time and got unresponsive suddenly

  I use Debian 6.0.3 x86_64 and MySQL 5.5.20-1~dotdeb.0-log from the Dotdeb repository. MySQL process started to consume a lot of "sy" CPU time serveral hours ago according to this graph. I was not able to connect to running mysqld process and had to kill it. I found nothing useful in logs. My setup seems to be quite common (I assume Dotdeb just redistributes stock MySQL versions) and I have never seen anything like this before. What is the possible root cause of this? How can I prevent this situation in the future?

• How to get average of multiple time series

  I have few computers running. I want to get the average CPU usage of these computers and plot it as a graph. So I've collected CPU usage in regular intervals in these machines. So for each computer I have a data set of time and CPU usage. But the times at which CPU measurements are taken in different machines are not in sync. For example in 1st machine CPU may be measured in time 1, 5, 9. In the second machine CPU may be measured in time 2, 5, 8. I want to get an average data series from these different data sets.
