  I have a table named ChatSessions where I keep track of active users in the chatroom. I need to prune expired user sessions from the table every 10 minutes. Using pure php-mysql is plain simple but I'm totally clueless how to convert this into ActiveRecord in CodeIgniter. The plain SQL query is below: SELECT * FROM `ChatSessions` WHERE `SessionExpires` < DATE_SUB( NOW( ) , INTERVAL 10 MINUTE ) Can anybody tell me what is the equivalent code in CodeIgniter using ActiveRecord? • How to get the line number an xml element is on via the Java w3c dom api

  Is there a way to lookup the line number that a given element is at in an xml file via the w3c dom api? My use case for this is that we have 30,000+ maps in kml/xml format. I wrote a unit test that iterates over each file found on the hard drive (about 17GB worth) and tests that it is parseable by our application. When it fails I throw an exception that contains the element instance that was considered "invalid". In order for our mapping department (nobody here knows how to program) to easily track down the typo we would like to log the line number of the element that caused the exception. Can anybody suggest a way to do this? Please note we are using the W3C dom api included in the Android 1.6 SDK.

  hi, in my application ( kind of wiki clone ) - an article is frequently changing. and i need to track all changes that are done on that article. { text only. } one crude way i have done it, is to add a datetime property and create a new entity everytime something change. which is too much database wasting. { and also un-necessary index waste too. } and also need to re-create parent-child and entity relationships. i also have log which can show changes -- but i want some thing easier , so that jumping from one version to another version could be easier. ideas ? thanks.

• Database design efficiency with 1 to many relationships limited 1 to 3

  This is in mysql, but its a database design issue. If you have a one to many relationship, like a bank customer to bank-accounts, typically you would have the table that records the bank-account information have a foreign key that keeps track of the relationship between account and customer. Now this follows the 3rd normal form thing and is a widely accepted way of doing it. Now lets say that you are going to limit a user to only having 3 accounts. The current database implementation will support this and nothing would need to change. But another way to do this would have 3 coloms in the account table that have the id of the 3 respective accounts in them. By the way this violates 1st normal form of db design. The question is what would be the advantage and disadvantages of having the user account relationship recored in this way over the traditional?

• Why isn't my IO executed in order?

  Hi, I'm having some fun learning about the haskell IO. However in my recent exploration of it I have encountered some problems with IO not executing in order, even inside a do construct. In the following code I am just keeping track of what cards are left, where the card is a tuple of chars (one for suit and one for value) then the user is continously asked for wich cards have been played.   Hi useRs, I am looking for a solution that allows me to keep a track of a multitude of R scripts that I create for various projects and purposes. Some scripts are easily tracked to specific projects, whereas others are "convenience" functions created to serve a set of tasks. Is there a way I can create a central DB and query it to find which scripts match most appropriately? I could create a system using a DBMS manually, but are users aware of anything in general or specific to R, that comes in the form of a software tool (maybe FOSS) ?

• How to tell if a user updated my app or installed a new one

  I need a way to tell if the app being used by a user is a fresh new install (new user), or was a pre-existing user who updated. The previous app version did not track UDID's, and didn't save anything (it just ran as a simple app). Is there a way for an update to tell if the user previously installed the app? Even if that app didn't save anything into the documents folder, and the app didnt communicate with a server (UDID post)? (id like to be able to offer bonus features to my existing loyal users who had already installed the original app and updated) thanks!!

• What's the fastest way to compare two objects in PHP?

  Let's say I have an object - a User object in this case - and I'd like to be able to track changes to with a separate class. The User object should not have to change it's behavior in any way for this to happen. Therefore, my separate class creates a "clean" copy of it, stores it somewhere locally, and then later can compare the User object to the original version to see if anything changed during its lifespan. Is there a function, a pattern, or anything that can quickly compare the two versions of the User object? Option 1 Maybe I could serialize each version, and directly compare, or hash them and compare? Option 2 Maybe I should simply create a ReflectionClass, run through each of the properties of the class and see if the two versions have the same property values? Option 3 Maybe there is a simple native function like objects_are_equal($object1,$object2);? What's the fastest way to do this?

  Okay, I am going to try to make this totally not a "plz send teh codez kthxbai" I am considering an app which takes sound (eventually an audio track) and applies an audio filter to it. So I can play sounds with AudioServicesPlaySystemSound via AudioToolbox framework just fine. What I need is a very simple example of how I might take a sound and apply (for instance) midrange boost etc. Actually the kind of alteration is irrelevant -- if I can get my head around how the alteration is done I can figure out the rest. I am just finding both docs and examples of altering audio in code to be very scarce. Thanks for any help!

• Can I detect unused extra parameters passed to javascript methods?

  In Javascript I can call any method with more than the necessary amount of parameters and the extra parameters are silently ignored. e.g. letters = ['a','b','c'] //correct letters.indexOf('a') //This also works without error or warning letters.indexOf('a', "blah", "ignore me", 38) Are there ways to detect cases where this occurs? My motivation is that in my experience cases where this occurs are usually bugs. Identification of these by code analysis or at runtime would help track these errors down. These cases are especially prevalent where people are expecting alterations to base types which may not have occurred. Logging a warning where this happens e.g. Date.parse('02--12--2012', 'dd--MM--YYYY') Notes: To be clear I would like a solution that doesn't involve me sprinkling checks all over my code and other peoples' code.

  I have a page which has got several text boxes. These controls are bound to a model. I am using MVVM. Assume I have three text boxes, FirstName, LastName and Company. So in the model, I have three properties to bind. Now I need to track the changes happened to each field. If FirstName changes from original value, I need the text box to be colored with a different background color. Currently I am creating another property called FirstNameChanged and binding the background to this property. This will be updated when I change the FirstName. For 3 fields, this seems to be OK. But when I have more fields, the number of properties will be too much. Is there a better way to handle this?

I created a macro that inserts a row, automatically adds today's date and calculates a moving average based on my input. There is also a chart to visualize my progress. I have tried recording a macro that updates the time series in the graph, but to no success. How can I create a macro or VBA script that, when executed, updates the range of the graph from A(x):Cy to A(x-1):Cy to include today's measurement? Thanks!

  I am working on a homework project that should implement a board game between 2 clients over an HttpServlet. I have couple of questions: 1) I read that HttpServlets must be stateless, however, for the sake of the game, I have to keep a lot of state(whose turn it is, the state of the board, etc). Do I have to keep this in the clients? Does the HttpServlet indeed have to be stateless, i.e. have no fields that track state? 2) I know that the clients will talk to the servlet via the doGet/doPost methods, but how can the servlet talk to the clients(for example, if player 1 just made a move and sent it to the servlet, the servlet has to tell client 2 what the move was).   Hi, Im a j2ee developper & we are using hibernatne mapping with a postgres databasae. We have to keep track of any changes occurs in the databse , in others words alls previous & current value of any field should be saved & field can be various types (bytea, int, char...) With a simple table it is easy but we a graph of objets things are more difficult So we have , speaking in a UML point of view, a graph of objects to store in the database with every changes & the user. • Monitoring file upload progress in Actionscript 3

  I'm trying to track the progress of a file upload in AS3, and I'm getting strange behavior. When I select a file and upload it, the progress is instantaneously 100% even if the file is 10 or more megabytes, but it's not finished. The onComplete event is fired about 30 second to a few minutes later (depending on file size) when the file has really finished uploading. I've tested this locally and on the server, the behaviour is the same. Has anyone else experienced this? Very frustrating ... Otherwise, the file is uploading fine.   Is there a way to do the following. We need to have a few basic cck types that will allow users to track their chosen parameters over a length of time. For example, one cck type may be called "numeric tracker" It would have a field for labeling the type and a field for entering a number. User A might label one numeric tracker "miles driven". Then each day user A would use this type to enter a number. User B might label a numeric tracker "hours slept". Each day user B would enter a number. Is there a way to use cck in this way?

  I struggle with finding a good medium on communication. In our jobs, it seems like it's very easy to get lost in code and lose track of time. It also seems kind of ridiculous to send out updates for every tiny task. Even though I am working very hard on getting things done, in a company that has very active communication between other branches, it tends to look bad for me when I'm not constantly updating my status. However, if I'm working on a 3-4 hour project, I'm not going to update management for every single line of code that I output. Broad I know, depends on the people, company, etc, but what would be a good general rule of thumb for effective communication?

• Android: Prompt user to save changes when Back button is pressed

  I have an activity that contains several user editable items (an EditText field, RatingBar, etc). I'd like to prompt the user if the back/home button is pressed and changes have been made that have not yet been saved. After reading through the android documentation, it seems like this piece of code should go in the onPause method. I've tried putting an AlertDialog in the onPause however the dialog gets shown and then immediately tears down because nothing is there to block the pause from completing.   I want to create some diagrams for some papers. Diagrams will contain some text, e.g. some console output. I need images for using also in html files. There is TikZ so can create images like this: http://www.texample.net/tikz/examples/boxes-with-text-and-math/ http://www.texample.net/tikz/examples/rule-based-diagram/ http://www.texample.net/tikz/examples/scenario-tree/ but as a result I get some ps/pdf files, not images. What's more I want to generate the pictures from text files as I want to track changes in some VCS, any binary files are not suitable for that.

Through javascript, I get four variables (A, B, C, and D) that I would like to sort, and still keep track of the variable name (since it's encoded with meaning information). Sample Data: A = 2; B = 1; C = 4; D = 3; What I need to do now is sort them in value order (4,3,2,1) such that I can actually know the variable name ordering (C,D,A,B).

• Codeigniter: Check where model is loaded from?

  I'm having the strangest thing ever right now. I "disabled" a model because i don't need to access it ever again. I did so by echoing out an error string in the __construct() and right after that die(). That way i would notice if i ever loaded the model, even by mistake, which should never happen. Alright? The problem is, the model is not loaded ANYWHERE in the entire project, but it still gets loaded for some reason. It's not auto loaded, that's for sure. Is it possible to track down where a model is loaded? Like which line it happens etc?

  I have a ruby script that needs to run about 1 time a second. What I am doing is using a ruby script to keep track of modifications of files in a directory. I want the script to run once a second so that the modifications are updated in "live" time. Basically, I want my script to do the same kind of thing as running "top" on a unix shell. Where the screen is updated every second or so. Is there an equivalent to setInterval in ruby like there is in javascript? Thanks
