  • How do I read multiple lines from STDIN into a variable?

    I've been googling this question to no avail. I'm automating a build process here at work, and all I'm trying to do is get version numbers and a tiny description of the build which may be multi-line. The system this runs on is OSX 10.6.8. I've seen everything from using CAT to processing each line as necessary. I can't figure out what I should use and why. Attempts read -d '' versionNotes Results in garbled input if the user has to use the backspace key. Also there's no good way to terminate the input as ^D doesn't terminate and ^C just exits the process. read -d 'END' versionNotes Works... but still garbles the input if the backspace key is needed. while read versionNotes do echo " $versionNotes" >> "source/application.yml" done Doesn't properly end the input (because I'm too late to look up matching against an empty string).

  • How to reference individual cells in Excel to variable data from records in an external SQL table

    I have a SQL table containing date oriented financial data eg. multiple daily records with fields for Date, Account code and Value. I want to set up dynamic links (formulas) from cells in an Excel speadsheet to this data so when the spreadsheet is loaded the data is fetched from all the relevant records. The spreadsheet has the Account codes on the x axis and Dates on the y. Each day the SQL table has new data in it for the new day and I want the spreadsheet to reference this new data for the column for the new day. Any ideas? I have seen how you can generally bring in data from a SQL table (in our case using ODBC as it is not MS SQL) but the data is not simply bringing in multiple records as you would a CVS file but specific records in the SQL table referencing to specific cells and columns in the spreadsheet.

    I have the following salary data for example: Country State 2012 2013 -> 2027 ======= ===== ==== ==== China Other 1000 1100 China Shanghai 1310 1400 China Tianjin 1450 1500 India Orissa 1500 1600 So now in another Excel sheet I would want an answer to one of the following questions: What is the salary in Shanghai for 2013? (Answer would be 1400) What is the salary in Hubei province for 2012? (Since it is not listed, use "Other" - 1000) What is the average salary in China for 2013? (Answer would be 1450) What is the highest salary in China for 2012? (Answer is Tianjin) So as in the above order of priority, I would like those numbers in another Excel sheet using some form of query. I considered PivotTables but I was wondering if there is another much better more efficient way of doing this? I imagine SQL is suited for this but I am not clued up on that. Some Excel functionality is much rather preferred. Also suggestions on an appropriate format of data for such queries would be appreciated.

  • How do I set the TEMP environment variable for the "Network Service" user?

    We have a system that uses Path.GetTempFile and Path.GetTempPath calls to work with temporary files fairly frequently. This system also runs as the "Network Service" user. We're finding that we're running out of room on the C drive (for other issues, our temp files are cleaned up correctly) and would like to be able to move the temp directory to a different drive. The easiest solution to this seems to be to change the TMP or TEMP environment variables for the Network Service user, but I only seem to be able to set my own user or the "system" variables that are overwritten by the Network Service user profile. How do I set these variables for the Network Service user?

    I am trying to understand the locales used in Linux. On my Ubuntu 11.10 system locale puts out the following: LANG=en_DK.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=en_GB:en LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 LC_NUMERIC="en_DK.UTF-8" LC_TIME="en_DK.UTF-8" LC_COLLATE=en_GB.UTF-8 LC_MONETARY="en_DK.UTF-8" LC_MESSAGES=en_GB.UTF-8 LC_PAPER="en_DK.UTF-8" LC_NAME="en_DK.UTF-8" LC_ADDRESS="en_DK.UTF-8" LC_TELEPHONE="en_DK.UTF-8" LC_MEASUREMENT="en_DK.UTF-8" LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_DK.UTF-8" LC_ALL= (en_dk is for using international day format, continental European number formatting (1.234,56) etc.) I think I understand what the LC_* family does, that LANG is the fallback if one of them is not set and that LC_ALL sets all of the LC_* variables to its value. What I don't know yet, is what LANGUAGE is used for. The notation en_GB:en reminds me of the Accept-Language HTTP header. With the settings above it would mean, British English is used, if a translation for it exists. Otherwise any existing English translation (en_US, en_AU, ..., whatever) would be used. Am I right so far? Also what programs actually obey the LANGUAGE setting? In how far is it different from LC_MESSAGES? Unfortunately, man locale only documents the LC_* family. And searching the web for 'linux locale LANGUAGE' or similar is a mute point. (Of course language is a word often used when talking about locales, and it may also be shown just in the output of locale without being discussed). Does anybody of you can help me out there?

    When i ssh to server using -X, i always confuse about which display number i should export. It seems to me sometimes the display number has been used by something, so what i can do is only export DISPLAY=localhost:0 && xclock export DISPLAY=localhost:1 && xclock export DISPLAY=localhost:2 && xclock export DISPLAY=localhost:... until the clock appear. Then i will use that display number. Each time log in to the server, the display number which is able to tunnel the gui data correct would be different. I know many of such similar questions has been asked and answer. However I couldn't find answer to my question, anyone know about it? Thanks!

I am using the function "getDays()" to get the available days list and stored the data inside daysWithRecords, and final the UI datepicker's function "beforeShowDay()" called the function "checkAvailability()" to set the days. the variable "daysWithRecords" was declared inside Igtomw = function(elem , options) and was initialized inside the function getDays() I am using the function "initialWatchHistory()" to initialization and render the JQuery UI datepicker in the web. My problem is the function "checkAvailability()" cannot see the variable "daysWithRecords".The firebug prompts me that "daysWithRecords" is "undefined". this is the first time I write my first plugin.     Algorithm to generate all possible letter combinations of given string down to 2 letters Trying to create an Anagram solver in AS3, such as this one found here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/adam.bozon/anagramsolver.htm I'm having a problem wrapping my brain around generating all possible letter combinations for the various lengths of strings. If I was only generating permutations for a fixed length, it wouldn't be such a problem for me... but I'm looking to reduce the length of the string and obtain all the possible permutations from the original set of letters for a string with a max length smaller than the original string. For example, say I want a string length of 2, yet I have a 3 letter string of “abc”, the output would be: ab ac ba bc ca cb. Ideally the algorithm would produce a complete list of possible combinations starting with the original string length, down to the smallest string length of 2. I have a feeling there is probably a small recursive algorithm to do this, but can't wrap my brain around it. I'm working in AS3. Thanks!

  • Issue with WIC image resizing on ASP.NET MVC 2

    I am attempting to implement image resizing on user uploads in ASP.NET MVC 2 using a version of the method found: here on asp.net. This works great on my dev machine, but as soon as I put it on my production machine, I start getting the error 'Exception from HRESULT: 0x88982F60' which is supposed to mean that there is an issue decoding the image. However, when I use WICExplorer to open the image, it looks ok. I've also tried this with dozens of images of various sources and still get the error (though possible, I doubt all of them are corrupted).     I have a stored time value which is of the format H:mm:ss. The hours may be any value from 0 up through several days. This data is sent in an XML tag and processed by XSL to be displayed. The display that I want is of the format: D days, HH:mm:ss (hours/minutes) Where the last tag shows hours if HH is greater than 0, minutes if it is 0. Given the original HH, which may be more than 24, I know I need the floor of HH / 24 to get the days value. Then the original HH % 24 gives me the leftover hours. I have also handled the minutes and hours question using xsl:when and xsl:if. It's getting days and hours from the hours value that has me stumped.     I'm using the following regex to validate password complexity: /^.*(?=.{6,12})(?=.*[0-9]{2})(?=.*[A-Z]{2})(?=.*[a-z]{2}).*$/ In a nutshell: 2 lowercase, 2 uppercase, 2 numbers, min length is 6 and max length is 12. It works perfectly, except for the maximum length, when I'm using a minimum length as well. For example: /^.*(?=.{6,})(?=.*[0-9]{2})(?=.*[A-Z]{2})(?=.*[a-z]{2}).*$/ This correctly requires a minimum length of 6! And this: /^.*(?=.{,12})(?=.*[0-9]{2})(?=.*[A-Z]{2})(?=.*[a-z]{2}).*$/ Correctly requires a maximum length of 12. However, when I pair them together as in the first example, it just doesn't work!! It seems that the KeyDown event doesn't get access to the current value of the bound variable, as if it is always "one behind".     Hi, I have a byte array of around 10,000 bytes which is basically a blob from delphi that contains char, string, double and arrays of various types. This need to be read in and updated via C#. I've created a very basic reader that gets the byte array from the db and converts the bytes to the relevant object type when accessing the property which works fine. My problem is when I try to write to a specific char[] item, it doesn't seem to update the byte array.     For the first run, I need to use dates that are six months prior to the last MySQL date $row_recent[0]. For all of the runs after 1, I am using a previous variable to store the previous date and then decrease the date by 6 months. I have confirmed that the first if test produces the expected result. (MySQL date - 6 Months). However, the second if test outputs $startdate6m as the PHP default due to $previous_6m being uninitialized.   • regex to break a string into "key" / "value" pairs when # of pairs is variable?

    Hi, I'm using Ruby 1.9 and I'm wondering if there's a simple regex way to do this. I have many strings that look like some variation of this: str = "Allocation: Random, Control: Active Control, Endpoint Classification: Safety Study, Intervention Model: Parallel Assignment, Masking: Double Blind (Subject, Caregiver, Investigator, Outcomes Assessor), Primary Purpose: Treatment" The idea is that I'd like to break this string into its functional components Allocation: Random Control: Active Control Endpoint Classification: Safety Study Intervention Model: Parallel Assignment Masking: Double Blind (Subject, Caregiver, Investigator, Outcomes, Assessor) Primary Purpose: Treatment The "syntax" of the string is that there is a "key" which consists of one or more "words or other characters" (e.g. Intervention Model) followed by a colon (:). Each key has a corresponding "value" (e.g., Parallel Assignment) that immediately follows the colon (:)…The "value" consists of words, commas (whatever), but the end of the "value" is signaled by a comma. The # of key/value pairs is variable. I'm also assuming that colons (:) aren't allowed to be part of the "value" and that commas (,) aren't allowed to be part of the "key". One would think that there is a "regexy" way to break this into its component pieces, but my attempt at making an appropriate matching regex only picks up the first key/value pair and I'm not sure how to capture the others.
