  As the number of "visual" OS's such as Android, iOS and the promised Windows 8 are becoming more popular, it does not seem to me that we programmers have new ways to code using these new technologies, due to a possible lack in new visual programming languages paradigms. I've seen several discussions about incompatibilities between the current coding development environment, and the new OS approaches from Windows 8, Android and other tablets OS's. I mean, today if we have a new tablet, it's almost a requirement for coding, to have, for instance, an external keyboard (due it seems to me it's very difficult to program using the touch screen), exactly because the coding assistance is not conceived to "write" thousands of lines of code. So, how advanced should be the "new" visual programming languages paradigms? Which characteristics these new paradigms would be required?

I could provide many more direct links, but you do not need them: just visit the home page of this technology to download whitepapers, watch videos on how this technology integrates with C# and with VB, (through the new async and await language keywords) as well as videos on how the technology works under the covers (based largely on the Task Parallel Library). • Test iPhone app on iPad mini?

  I have developed an iPhone app, right now I only need a device for testing. I have 300$, and two choices - second hand iPhone 4, or brand new iPad mini. The better choice obviously is the iPad, but is it sufficient for testing iPhone apps on? On the iPad, iPhone apps can run just fine in 2X mode, but are there any differences between the app performance on iPhone and iPad (except the chipset). Should I test my app on actual iPhone, or the iPad will suffice? My app is RSS reader, not some game, so I think everything will be fine with testing on iPad mini. If I buy the iPad I will find some friends iPhone 4/3gs running iOS 5.1 (because my app's deployment target is 5.1, and the iPad comes with 6.0), but of course I can't extensively test on this iPhone. • Test driven vs Business requirements constant changing

  One of the new requirement of our dev team set by the CTO/CIO is to become test driven development, however I don't think the rest of the business is going to help because they have no sense of development life cycles, and requirements get changed all the time within a single sprint. Which gets me frustrated about wasting time writing 10 test cases and will become useless tomorrow. We have suggested setting up processes to dodge those requirement changes and educate the business about development life cycles. What if the business fails to get the idea? What would you do?

  The Smart Client Software Factory (SCSF) version for Visual Studio 2010 is supposed to be released sometime this week.  The updated (final?) source code is available on the patterns & practices site already, but I'm guessing it could be updated again due to changes found during the final testing. You'll need the Visual Studio 2010 SDK as well as the new versions of the Guidance Automation Extensions (GAX) and the Guidance Automation Toolkit (GAT) for the SCSF. • Windows Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio 1.2 (June 2010)

  I have good news! Microsoft has released the June 2010 Windows Azure Tools + SDK. These new tools extend Visual Studio (both VS 2010 & VS 2008) for Windows Azure development. With these tools you can create, configure, debug, build, run, and deploy scalable web apps on Windows Azure. At first glance what I see as some of the most interesting points of interest are the fact that Visual Studio 2010 RTM is fully supported as well as .NET 4 support. You can choose to build your apps with the .NET 3.5 or .NET 4 frameworks. Another area of interest that I’ll be digging into is the cloud storage explorer. It provides a read-only view of your Windows Azure tables and blob containers from within Visual Studio via the Server Explorer. I’m sure I’ll have more to say about the Windows Azure Tools as I dig deeper… Have a day. :-|

• Uploading a file automatically for speed test?

  I am building a Web UI for a device for internet connection and one of the requirements in it is a speed test. I know the basic concept of how speed test works. A file is downloaded for a limited time then the same file is uploaded again and the speed is tracked at regular intervals. Downloading the file is not an issue, but how am I supposed to upload the file without the client knowing that the file is getting uploaded? I've read through a lot of documentation, but I'm still not able to get the answer to how I will upload the file from clients machine without asking him to select the file.

• Assets.getBytes returns null in test environment

  I'm using the latest Haxe (2.10), NME (3.4.3), and MUnit. I've written some unit tests that need to fetch bitmap data from SWF symbols. The first step is to actually load the SWF data. To do this, I use NME's getByteArray along with the swf library, like so: var blah:SWF = new SWF(Assets.getBytes("assets/swf/test.swf")); The call to Assets.getBytes returns null when I'm running this under MUnit. When running my actual game code, I'm able to get the byte array (and consequentially, instantiate the SWF class). Am I doing something wrong? What am I missing? Edit: My directory structure is: . (root .\assets .\assets\*.png (other images) .\assets\swf\*.swf (SWFs) .\Source\*.hx (source code) .\Test\*.hx (tests)

• How do you unit test your javascript.

  I spend a lot of time working in javascript of late. I have not found a way that seems to work well for testing javascript. This in the past hasn't been a problem for me since most of the websites I worked on had very little javascript in them. I now have a new website that makes extensive use of jQuery I would like to build unit tests for most of the system. My problems are this. Most of the functions make changes to the DOM in some way. Most of the functions request data from the web server as well and require a session on the service to get results back. I would like to run the test from either a command line or a test running harness rather then in a browser. Any help or articles I should be reading would be helpful.

However this is just giving me the info if that content is good enough or not. However for my scenario I need to test whether disallowing some patterns is being indexed or not.
