  • Link all'interno di un campo testo

    Ciao a tutti, nella Rails app che sto realizzando, l'utente ha la possibilita' di inserire un post (campo memo) con all'interno una URL. Ad esempio: "bla bla bla bla www.blabla.com bla bla bla ..." Nel mostrare tale post vorrei che www.blabla.com diventasse un link cliccabile (come avviene in twitter). Ovviamente deve essere fatto un parsing della url, immagino usando le espressioni regolari. Avete dei consigli in merito ?     Im using the standard java ws implementation shipped with e.g. java6 (javax.jws.*). I have the following: import javax.jws.*; @WebService(name="Widget") public interface Widget { @WebMethod public @WebResult String getGadget(@WebParam(name = "id") long id) throw MyOwnException; } Is this possible? Do I have to annotate MyOwnException with e.g the @WebFault annotation? During my initial tests I also noticed that, on the client side, the autogenerated MyOwnException was renamed to MyOwnException_Exception and wrapped the "original" MyOwnException. Or if this is a bad idea, are there any recommended Exceptions to throw from a webservice like this?

  • Grails application hogging too much memory

    Tomcat 5.5.x and 6.0.x Grails 1.6.x Java 1.6.x OS CentOS 5.x (64bit) VPS Server with memory as 384M export JAVA_OPTS='-Xms128M -Xmx512M -XX:MaxPermSize=1024m' I have created a blank Grails application i.e simply by giving the command grails create-app and then WARed it I am running Tomcat on a VPS Server When I simply start the Tomcat server, with no apps deployed, the free memory is about 236M and used memory is about 156M When I deploy my "blank" application, the memory consumption spikes to 360M and finally the Tomcat instance is killed as soon as it takes up all free memory As you have seen, my app is as light as it can be. Not sure why the memory consumption is as high it is. I am actually troubleshooting a real application, but have narrowed down to this scenario which is easier to share and explain.

    I am having a problem using Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) to open mailto links with long messages.   • What is the ideal length of an URL slug

    To make pretty URL's from article titles I am using a simple function. However lately I an concerned about the ideal length of these "slugs". It is said that too many dashes are bad. However some article titles can be long and a too long URL may not be liked by google. Of course that defeats th whole idea of having URL slugs. So does anyone have any idea how long a URL slug should be. Should there be a limit on the "dash" charecters used?

  • Choosing a plotting library for web/browser application

    Hello, I am looking for a plotting/graphing library (mostly to do line plots) for my application. I have been looking at JavaScript APIs (like Google's) but I found them to be slowing down things at client side (I am plotting a quite large number of points). I also found that with client-side libraries, the performance was quite varied depending on the user's computer. With moving to a server-side library I would cut down on this variance, and would have more control over data flow (my data is in a MySQL database). I have then looked at some PHP-based plotting libraries, but a lot of them seem to be "forgotten" (no new version for years). I have been eying pChart, but it has not had an update in almost two years. First, what would you recommend: server-side or client-side approach? Second, what library would you recommend. Paid libraries are definitely an option, as I don't mind paying for quality software that would cut down on my development time. Thanks,

  • How to communicate between frames?

    I'm maintaining an application that goes sort of like this: There is a Page A with a Frame that shows Page B. Now page B is part of a completely different product, so there's a frame in a that just calls B. Now, they want that when B an option in B is clicked, the WHOLE page is redirected to another page in A. The problem is that the url of A is something like "www.client.MyCompany/Order/Details/123" But B doesnt know nothing about A, or which order # it is or anything, but Page A who has the frame B does know it. For know my solution is to just redirect to all the order so something like client.MyCompany/Orders but since B doesn't know which client it is, I'll add it in the webconfig. (so each client has its own webconfig with a different value). I dont find this solution optimal but I can't think of anything else! I already tried putting the needed url in page A in a hidden Div (since A does know all the info) and then trying to read the whole DOM of the page from B to find it.... unfortunately I can only get access to Frame B's DOM... (I tried with jquery). I know frames are evil, but this is how it is written... any ideas? Thanks!

    Hi, I would like to know how I can improve my development environment. At the moment: I'm using Netbeans as my IDE. My local Dev server runs on a RHEL5 VirtualMachine similar to my production server. My Netbeans project is editing the VM files via ssh (I have mounted the server as a local drive) But: It's slow Files can disapear ( netbeans delete them ? ) I can't use git on it because it's slow. The idea would be to be able to have a shared filesytem between the guest os and the host os.

  • Should I start a General Software Developer User Group? [closed]

    I'm moving to a small town (Panama City, Florida) at some point in the future. I've found a Linux user group, and a .Net user group, but I'd like to spend my time outside of the office learning about Python, Android, JQuery -- mostly things that aren't owned by .Net. I'm debating trying to start another user group of some sort there, primarily to attract programmers who use technologies other than .Net. What are some of the more general programming user groups in existence already? I'm looking for something I could franchise.

  • New hire expectations... (Am I being unreasonable?)

    I work for a very small custom software shop. We currently consist me and my boss. My boss is an old FoxPro DOS developer and OOP makes him uncomfortable. He is planning on taking a back seat in the next few years to hopefully enjoy a “partial retirement”. I will be taking over the day to day operations and we are now desperately looking for more help. We tried Monster.com, Dice.com, and others a few years ago when we started our search. We had no success. We have tried outsourcing overseas (total disaster), hiring kids right out of college (mostly a disaster but that’s where I came from), interns (good for them, not so good for us) and hiring laid off “experienced” developers (there was a reason they were laid off). I have heard hiring practices discussed on podcasts, blogs, etc... and have tried a few. The “Fizz Buzz” test was a good one. One kid looked physically ill before he finally gave up. I think my problem is that I have grown so much as a developer since I started here that I now have a high standard. I hear/read very intelligent people podcasts and blogs and I know that there are lots of people out there that can do the job. I don’t want to settle for less than a “good” developer. Perhaps my expectations are unreasonable. I expect any good developer (entry level or experienced) to be billable (at least paying their own wage) in under one month. I expect any good developer to be able to be productive (at least dangerous) in any language or technology with only a few days of research/training. I expect any good developer to be able to take a project from initial customer request to completion with little or no help from others. Am I being unreasonable? What constitutes a valuable developer? What should be expected of an entry level developer? What should be expected of an experienced developer? I realize that everyone is different but there has to be some sort of expectations standard, right? I have been giving the test project below to potential canidates to weed them out. Good idea? Too much? Too little? Please let me know what you think. Thanks.   • Web Deployment Project builds files that are no longer part of the project

    This is the error I get: Error 101 Could not load type 'control'. /Test.vbproj/x.ascx 1 1 WebDeployProject This is a left over file that was part of the project last week, but one of the developers deleted it from the project. I have to manually delete the file in order to get the WDP to build. Is there a way to tell the WDP to ignore the files that are not part of the project or to see that these files are not part of the project and delete them?

  • Stripes link event triggering validation that is incorrect.

    I have stripes:link tag in a jsp with an event attribute: <stripes:link href="${actionBean.context.currentStage.stripesForwardAction}" addSourcePage="true" event="showTab2Link"> This triggers the validation to trigger on nested properties: @ValidateNestedProperties({ @Validate(field="county", required=true, minlength=2, maxlength=2, mask="\\d\\d"), @Validate(field="parish", required=true, minlength=3, maxlength=3, mask="\\d\\d\\d"), @Validate(field="holding", required=true, minlength=4, maxlength=4, mask="\\d\\d\\d\\d") }) However this would been fine if the actual values it is validation are not present, but they are present within the html and when debugging the bean. Why would the stripes:link trigger this? If I change it to an stripes:submit then it is fine. thanks, Dave
