• Why does my CPU Usage reach 100% too often?

  I'm using a dual-core processor and often see my CPU usage reaches 100%. I realize this may happen if I'm running too much applications, so when I know the computer starts to run slowly, I start to close my applications. I usually run 4-5 applications simultaneously. Usually those are: web browser (Google Chrome), Adobe Photoshop, Notepad++, XAMPP, and Windows Task Manager. Usually I close tabs in my Chrome first, because I often browse the net with about 20 tabs/4 windows open, so I presume that would take much memory (bad habit, I know). But even after closing Chrome's tabs or closing other applications, my CPU Usage often stays at high percentage - 72% at best, 100% at worst. I check the Processes tab on Windows Task Manager and usually found the System, System Idle Process, or services.exe taking the highest CPU process (could reach 60). Why is this happening? And is there any solution? EDIT I have T2250 @ 1,73 Ghz and 2.5 GB RAM

  Whenever I use Google Chrome's "Create Application" shortcut (which I heavily use, and recommend), the icons shown on the Windows 7 taskbar are really blurry, probably the result of the 16x16 favicon being stretched out. I'd like to be able to replace these with another, high-quality icon, but even when I replace the cached file, it doesn't update for some reason. For reference, here's the path to the icon, for Gmail, at least.   Here are my two questions: How can I start any application with Guest permissions by default? How can I set certain applications not to launch with Guest permissions? For the first bullet, any non-Microsoft signed application I launch should run as the Guest account. For the second bullet, I'm imagining adding menu entries like this would be a nice approach: Set to run as Guest (= default selected entry) Set to run as User Set to run as Admin But how do I do this?

  What is the best file system to use for a second hard drive when dual booting between WinXP and Win7? I am dual booting for legacy reasons, and I have a 2nd internal drive that I would like to use from both XP and 7. Should I go with the standard NTFS? (will the secuirty features be an issue, with different SIDs from the different users) Should I go with FAT32? Should I try out the new exFAT? Also, I curently have two of my 3 drives as "dynamic disks" and 1 spaned volume created on them. (i did this from XP) Win7 can see them/it fine. Is this an ok thing to do?

• What is the most reliable way to copy access front end files to client PCs

  I have several in house databases which have access 2003 front ends, either adp or ade files. I need to copy these from my server to every client machine. In the past I have used a rollout scripts to copy the files to the all users desktop folder. I have since adapted this to also copy files to the public desktop folder since we started having windows 7 client machines as well as XP. The problem is that some of the time these scripts don't work for windows 7. Is there a better way of copying these files to a mix of windows 7 and XP clients or is using rollout scripts the best way?

• Cannot navigate Microsoft store after app install / update

  Every time i go to the store and install a new app or update an existing one, I go back to the main screen of Store after a few screen refreshes. And then oddly, scrolling doesn't work and neither do the buttons, although the Tiles are fine. I then have to close the app and then re-open it and things are back to normal. I don't know if this is a weird bug or just the way it is. Could anyone please confirm and / or give a possible explanation?

• Why does my drive show as 180GB used, but copies only 40GB?

  My computer crashed, so I removed the drive (with Windows XP Professional 32-Bit) and put this drive in another computer running Windows 7 64-bit. Booting with Win7, when going to My Computer it is showing the XP drive as more than 180GB used. So as a quick backup, I'm trying to copy all the disk's content to a folder, but when I start copying, it's showing only 40 GB as the total size of the files to copy. I enabled showing system and hidden files in View options. What could be the problem?

• KVM Switch for a mac and a Windows (XP or 7) machine to share VDU

  Have a MacPro (snow leopard) connected to an (windows standard) Asus 25" monitor via a DVI--VGA adapter. Now the boss wants me to work from home, so I want to share my Asus display with a Windows XP laptop. No doubt once my wife sees this, she will want to do the same thing, but with a Windows 7 laptop. So what I would like, I think, is your recommendations for a KVM switch (or better solution) that allows the Mac and a (windows 7 or windows xp) laptop to share the Asus display. Bonus marks if they can share Apple keyboard and magic mouse, but am quite happy to use separate mouse keyboards. The MacPro is the one that is always connected, the laptops come and go. Any ideas?   Hi, I work in IT at a school and we recently updated our database software, however the web access that the teachers use to do registration does not work too well with Internet Explorer 7 and we're thinking about switching to chrome (mostly due to me hating IE in general) but the problem we have is that users are unable to migrate their bookmarks over from IE due to account restrictions, is there any way to get this working? A bit of info about the system if it could be helpful; Almost all the client PCs are running Win XP SP2. My colleagues machines are running Windows 7, I use OS X Snow Leopard and most of out servers are running windows server 2003 (with the exception of 2 one on 2000 server and another on 2008 R2). The Active Directory Controller is running Windows Server 2003

• "TMGR is Missing" after repair-installing Windows XP

  I have two OSes installed in my computer. - Windows XP Professional - Windows 7 Ultimate (Release Candidate 1/Build 7100) I used the Windows 7 boot loader by default to choose between OSes. When I was using my WinXP, my computer gets lagged suddenly and continuously, and the only way to fix it is by repair-installing it (because I've experienced this many times before, but without W7 installed). Everything goes OK. But when my XP was successfully reinstalled, I cannot boot my Windows 7 anymore. Every time I tried to boot the harddisk that contains W7, an error appeared. "TMGR is Missing". Now I have no idea how can I get back to my Windows 7. Any kind of help would be appreciated! :)

• DVI monitor detected only on computer startup

  I've recently connected a new monitor, LG M2252D-PZ, to a rather outdated computer with Windows XP and Radeon 9600. XP has SP3 installed, video drivers are the latest version back from the times the video card was still supported. My problem is that the monitor works fine only as long as I don't turn it off or switch it to a different input. When I turn it back on, it says "no signal". The key to the problem must be the DVI port, to which the new monitor is connected. The previous monitor was connected to the VGA output, and I've tested that the new one also works fine when connected to the analogue port. Apparently, the computer tests for the presence of a monitor on the DVI port only on startup. The question is, how do I change this?

  I have Windows Professional x64 with two sound cards. for many months these cards (and the all sound system) was working fine. Suddenly my System (my PC) stops having sound. from WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYERS and for any other media players The default sounds from windows are working fine but I don't have sounds from media players. Also I open the "Sounds And Audio Device Properties" and in "Volume"Tab I press "Advance". There I receive an error "DirectSoundSetting not available". I have already Uninstall and re install my sound cards... But Nothing. Did anyone knows where the problem is?

Ideally, I would like to have the same functionality as gpedit.msc, but it is important that the tasks of adding and removing such scripts do not require user interaction and can be done entirely within the context of a script. • Windows 7 system CPU bogged by windows services, no explanation

  I'm looking at a laptop for a colleague which is running terribly slow. A quick look showed that the CPU was 100% used by 2-3 SVCHost processes, which off course doesn't tell much since those are just 'cover' processes with services running underneath them. So I fired up process explorer in hopes of finding a shady rogue service which was bogging the system, but to my suprise I found genuine MS Windows processes (or at least damn-good disguised ones) are bogging down the system: dnscache (DNS Client) IKEEXT (IKE and AuthIP IPSec Keyring modules) iphlpsvc (IP Helper) Seen separately, these processes might seem odd to be using a lot of CPU, but taking a step back one can conclude that all three services are quite closely related to networking. I've tried running: netsh int ip reset log.txt which has helped me save bizarre network-related problems in the past, but this didn't help Off course I though about a virus, but both MS Security Essentials as well as malwarebytes (let both run a full scan).

• Can't use a network CD-ROM

  Hi, there! I have a computer with Windows XP and I'm trying to use my local network to use the CD-ROM of my notebook with Windows 7. In windows XP computer with VLC I can open the menu of the DVD but after choose the option for the first chapter the movie window shuts down (but the VLC stays open). With BS-Player when trying to start the first chapter it freezes... Is this possible to fix? Thanks in advance!

  The main advantage is the use of ReSharper and other add-ons but we need to make a convincing argument for the purchase of Visual Studio 2012 Professional. We are currently using Visual Studio 2012 Express for Windows. It is quite good but is hard to switch from using the full Professional version in the past. So far the team has compiled the following list: Extract Interface function missing. Very useful for clean SOLID code. No add-on support. Can’t install StyleCop or productivity tools. AnkhSvn, Spell checker, Productivity PowerTools, GhostDoc, Regex Editor, PowerCommands. The exception assistant is limited in Express edition. This is a big annoyance. Possibility of create a Test project based on source code. We do server development in C# so any web add-ons or anything else is useless.   My Investigation of WCF internals have set the right stage to revisit Professional WCF 4 by Pablo Cibraro, Kurt Claeys, Fabio Cozzolino and Johann Grabner. In this book, the authors dive deep into all aspects of the WCF API in a reading targeted towards intermediate and advanced developers. Book quality so far as presentation, code completeness, content clarity and organization was superb. The authors have taken a hands-on approach to thoroughly covering the WCF 4.0 API with three chapters totaling 100+ pages completely dedicated to business cases with downloadable source code readily available. Chapter 1 outlines SOA best-practice considerations. Next three chapters take a top-down approach to the WCF API covering service and data contracts, bindings, clients, instancing and Workflow Services followed by another carefully-thought three chapters covering the security options available via the WCF API. In conclusion, Professional WCF 4.0 provides a thorough coverage of the WCF API and is a recommended read for anybody looking to reinforce their understanding of the various features available in the WCF framework.
