• How can I disable 'output escaping' in minidom

  I'm trying to build an xml document from scratch using xml.dom.minidom. Everything was going well until I tried to make a text node with a ® (Registered Trademark) symbol in. My objective is for when I finally hit print mydoc.toxml() this particular node will actually contain a ® symbol. First I tried: import xml.dom.minidom as mdom data = '®' which gives the rather obvious error of: File "C:\src\python\HTMLGen\test2.py", line 3 SyntaxError: Non-ASCII character '\xae' in file C:\src\python\HTMLGen\test2.py on line 3, but no encoding declared; see http://www.python.or g/peps/pep-0263.html for details I have of course also tried changing the encoding of my python script to 'utf-8' using the opening line comment method, but this didn't help. So I thought import xml.dom.minidom as mdom data = '&#174;' #Both accepted xml encodings for registered trademark data = '&reg;' text = mdom.Text() text.data = data print data print text.toxml() But because when I print text.toxml(), the ampersands are being escaped, I get this output: &reg; &amp;reg; My question is, does anybody know of a way that I can force the ampersands not to be escaped in the output, so that I can have my special character reference carry through to the XML document? Basically, for this node, I want print text.toxml() to produce output of &reg; or &#174; in a happy and cooperative way! EDIT 1: By the way, if minidom actually doesn't have this capacity, I am perfectly happy using another module that you can recommend which does. EDIT 2: As Hugh suggested, I tried using data = u'®' (while also using data # -*- coding: utf-8 -*- Python source tags). This almost helped in the sense that it actually caused the ® symbol itself to be outputted to my xml. This is actually not the result I am looking for. As you may have guessed by now (and perhaps I should have specified earlier) this xml document happens to be an HTML page, which needs to work in a browser. So having ® in the document ends up causing rubbish in the browser (® to be precise!). I also tried: data = unichr(174) text.data = data.encode('ascii','xmlcharrefreplace') print text.toxml() But of course this lead to the same origional problem where all that happens is the ampersand gets escaped by .toxml(). My ideal scenario would be some way of escaping the ampersand so that the XML printing function won't "escape" it on my behalf for the document (in other words, achieving my original goal of having &reg; or &#174; appear in the document). Seems like soon I'm going to have to resort to regular expressions! EDIT 2a: Or perhaps not. Seems like getting my html meta information correct <META http-equiv="Content-Type" Content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> could help, but I'm not sure yet how this fits in with the xml structure...

• Android NDK r4 san-angeles problem

  Hi All, I'm starting to learn the android NDK and I've instantly come up against a problem. I'e built the tool chain (which took a LOT longer than I was expecting!!) and I've compiled the C++ code with no problems and now I'm trying to build the java code. Instantly I come up against a problem. There is a file "main.xml" <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" > <TextView android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Hello World, DemoActivity" /> </LinearLayout> and I get the following errors: Description Resource Path Location Type error: Error: String types not allowed (at 'layout_height' with value 'match_parent'). main.xml /DemoActivity/res/layout line 2 Android AAPT Problem error: Error: String types not allowed (at 'layout_height' with value 'match_parent'). main.xml /DemoActivity/res/layout line 2 Android AAPT Problem error: Error: String types not allowed (at 'layout_width' with value 'match_parent'). main.xml /DemoActivity/res/layout line 2 Android AAPT Problem error: Error: String types not allowed (at 'layout_width' with value 'match_parent'). main.xml /DemoActivity/res/layout line 7 Android AAPT Problem error: Error: String types not allowed (at 'layout_width' with value 'match_parent'). main.xml /DemoActivity/res/layout line 7 Android AAPT Problem So I can see the problem lies in the fact that these "match_parent" strings are in there.   Is it possible to specify the value of a tag or attribute should not be like some_value ? I have a strange requirement, where the xsd isn't aware of the values being sent to it. The value of that particular tag can be a string with any value except one value ( say data_migration). The sender should be acknowledged with the error, if that particular value is sent. Is it possible to specify this restriction?

I am going to be moving a bunch of my software to Java soon and it is very very heavy on its usage of E. Does Java have anything near equivalent to that usage?

• Grails: Problem with nested associations in criteria builder

  I have a frustrating problem with the criteria builder. I have an application in which one user has one calendar, and a calendar has many entries. Seems straightforward enough, but when I try to get the calendar entries for a given user, I can't access the user property (MissingMethodException). Here's the code: def getEntries(User user) { def entries = Entries.createCriteria().list() { calendar { user { eq("user.id", user.id) } } } } I have even tried the following variation: def getEntries(User user) { def entries = Entries.createCriteria().list() { calendar { eq("user", user) } } } That did not raise an exception, but didn't work either. Here's the relevant parts of the domain classes: class Calendar { static belongsTo = [user: User] static hasMany = [entries: Entries] ... } class User { Calendar calendar ... } class Entry { static belongsTo = [calendar: Calendar] ... } When Googling I came across a similar problem noted in early 2008: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GRAILS-1412 But according to that link this issue should have been solved long ago. What am I doing wrong?

  I have a navigation based application that have a uinavigataioncontroller containing uitableviewcontrollers. I want to add buttons to the UINavigationbar of the uinavigataioncontroller, usually I write code to add these buttons, something like this: UIBarButtonItem *saveButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemSave target:self action:@selector(saveClicked:)]; self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = saveButton; [saveButton release]; My idea now was to use interface builder instead. But I'm not sure how to do it. What I'm trying to do is to add a UINavigationItem in the xib file of the viewcontroller (my viewcontroller is called TextViewController), something like this: See this image: http://i48.tinypic.com/qq5yk7.jpg But how can I make TextViewController use the UINavigationItem I added? The button I add doesn't show in the navigationbar. Any ideas on how to do this? What am I missing?

• Application compiled by Flex Builder 3 does not trace

  I've built a simple application in Flex Builder 3 with some trace() calls. It's an "ActionScript Project", no MXML or AIR involved. I don't run the app from within Eclipse, I just open the generated html file with Firefox. I'm using the Flash Player 10 Debug version. I've correctly set mm.cnf to log trace output, following the official instructions. A flashlog.txt file is generate in the appropriate location. Despite all that, trace output is not shown in the log file. What am I doing wrong? (I suspect it's a compiler option, but I can find no such option in the project options in FlexBuilder) (If I do run the app from Eclipse, by pressing F11, I can see trace output but only inside Eclipse, not in the log file)

• Virtual properties duplicated during serialization when XmlElement attribute used

  The Goal: XML serialize an object that contains a list of objects of that and its derived types. The resulting XML should not use the xsi:type attribute to describe the type, to wit the names of the serialized XML elements would be an assigned name specific to the derived type, not always that of the base class, which is the default behavior. The Attempt: After exploring IXmlSerializable and IXmlSerializable with eerie XmlSchemaProvider methods and voodoo reflection to return specialized schemas and an XmlQualifiedName over the course of days, I found I was able to use the simple [XmlElement] attribute to accomplish the goal... almost. The Problem: Overridden properties appear twice when serializing. The exception reads "The XML element 'overriddenProperty' from namespace '' is already present in the current scope. Use XML attributes to specify another XML name or namespace for the element." I attempted using a *Specified property (see code), but it didn't work. • 404 Error using Flash Builder 4 BlazeDS wizard

  Hello again Stackoverflow! My issue this time around is trying to use the new DCD BlazeDS wizard in Flash Builder 4. If I set my project up as a combined Java/Flex app I am unable to connect to the RDS servlet using the wizard. I get a 404 error every time. I'm certain the service is set up correctly since my app can access the exposed java classes and BlazeMonster can see the exposed services. Is anyone else having this issue and if so has anyone found a work-around? I'd very much like to use the code generation features of the wizard for my project. Thanks as always, Codeflayer

  We are using a PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer to use java properties in our Spring configuration (details here) eg: <foo name="port"> <value>${my.server.port}</value> </foo> We would like to add an additional property, but have a distributed system where existing instances could all use a default value. Is there a way to avoid updating all of our properties files, by indicating a default value in the Spring config for when there isn't an overriding property value defined?

• Trouble adding video controls to video selected by XML comboBox

  Hello, it's been a few years since I've touched flash, so perhaps I'm just overlooking something. If anyone could look at the code and offer any suggestions that would be awesome. What's working, I select a video from a combobox that is populated from an XML file, pick the video and it plays. I've been trying to add pause/play, stop, forward and reverse functionality, once I get that to work I also want to add a video scrubber(slider), and previous/next buttons to go to the previous/next video as listed in the xml file. At the moment I have a component button on the stage called playButton, which I'm trying to use for pause/play functionality. Below is my code, the player control is at the very bottom. The object is exactly compatible with the xslt, if it was serialized to file. But I don't want to have to serialize it to a file first. So to recap : keep the xslt coming from a file, but the xml input should an object I pass and would like to generate the xml from without any file system interaction.

• How to control Time zone formatting in System.Xml.Serialization or during application execution?

  I'm developing a C# .Net Application that is executing on a system located in the Central Time Zone. The application gets information from a third party using an API they provide. I have used the WSDL to produce the code that my application access the API with...their reporting API allows you to define a start date and end date for the report. These are C# DateTime fields and XSD:dateTime. Now when I set the start date and end dates and allow the API to create the SOAP messages the dates don't always include a Time Zone unless I set the date fields using the ToLocalTime method; however, the method will create the DateTime fields in the Central Time Zone (CST) but I need to have it create these fields in the Pacific Time Zone (PST). If I set my machine time to PST all is good...but of course that causes other time issues. What methods can I use to control the formatting of the DateTime? Alternatively, is there a application setting that can be set in C# that allows timezone control?

• Flex Builder 3 Unclosable Editor Windows

  See: http://i.imgur.com/pQNQh.png Somehow I made this happen and I don't know how to undo it. The image linked above shows my Flex Builder session. The largest section of the window is the editor. Initially, there was a blank window on the screen so I tried closing it, but I couldn't. Then I tried dragging it and realized I could drag it into a corner of itself, hence all the nested windows. I have no idea how to close these windows or simply reset the view. I went to the preferences under General Perspectives, but the "reset" button was disabled for every available perspective. Help?

  Hi all, I use vb to get data through my form. I have some optional fileds in my form and I have this problem with the following code: MsgBox(myXPathNavigator.SelectSingleNode("/my:Status/my:Questions/my:Questions1", _ Me.NamespaceManager).IsNode.ToString) When the optional filed 'Questions1' is inserted to the form I get the value 'true' by the IsNode function. If the field it is not inserted I have an exception, stating that the reference is not correct (and it is indeed true). Is there a way to verify about a node, whether it is present or not in my form?   Hi, android is new for me. I am trying to develop a program on 1.5 platform but still in progress, plz guide me. I have some information in following format "item1","description1" "item2","description2" "item3","description3" "item4","description4" . . . . I want to show them on screen, I dont know which is recommended way to do this. After google I found 2 method. but I failed to successfully implement any of one. Method 1 I break both columns data into 2 different arrays, then populate listactivity with array of column 1, enable filter & on clicked event I want to raise alert which should show Text clicked in tilte & desc from 2nd array as msg body based on position. I would like to know which of the two, DocProject or Sandcastle Help File Builder GUI is better and supports the features I need. I would like to compile only each projects own part of the document and then have it all integrated together in the end. (i.e. the library components in one documentation project and each project in it's own documentation project, then all of the above in a single root using the Help 2 viewer)

• What are the possible values of load_on_startup in a servlet entry on web.xml?

  Obviously, load_on_startup value of 0 means don't, and 1 means do. But what does a value of 2 mean? The servlet specification is surprisingly hard to reach. (Here's where I saw 2 as a possible value).
