• Unable to authenticate Windows XP clients agains Snow Leopard Server PDC after 10.6.2 upgrade

  I have setup a Snow Leopard Server 10.6.1 as a PDC without problems to authenticate Windows XP clients. Joining a Windows XP client to the SLS PDC Domain and log in from a Windows XP client to the SLS PDC Domain are working. After the update to Snow Leopard Server 10.6.2 the authentication is broken. opendirectory_smb_pwd_check_ntlmv1 gave -14090 [eDSAuthFailed] By changing the Windows XP "Network security: LAN Manager authentication level" policy to NTVLM2 responses only the authentication agains a SMB share is possible, but trying to join SLS PDC Domain is still not possible. opendirectory_smb_pwd_check_ntlmv2 gave -14090 [eDSAuthFailed] Any ideas? Is anyone else having similar authentication difficulties?

• How To Change What Version of PHP Apache2 Uses?

  I just discovered that I am using the wrong version of PHP for a CRM application. Once I figured out how to make a simple phpinfo() script to tell me what Apache2 is using, I tried changing the php.ini such that my webserver would use the PHP I want. Well, this is my problem. Not sure how to do that. I compiled the version of PHP I want to /etc here: /etc/php-5.2.8/ Inside this, there was a php.ini-recommended file that I made some changes to and renamed to php.ini so PHP would use it. But when I opened my browser and cleared my history and went to the http://localhost<CRM dir>/install.php address, the wizard still says I'm not usign the correct version of PHP. Based on this post what do I have to do to change the version of PHP that shows up after I run my test.php script? In other words, phpinfo() says I'm running PHP 5.3.2, but I want to change it to my compiled 5.2.8 version located in /etc.

• Search predictions broken in Chrome - reinstall didn't solve the problem

  I recently changed the default search engine to a custom google search URL (using baseUrl) with some additional parameters and removed all the rest of the search engines, and since then, the search predictions stopped working. I even tried to reinstall Chrome but as soon as I resync, the problem is back! Search predictions are just gone without option to fix!! In IE changing the search provider allows specifying a prediction (suggestion) provider, In chrome, once you change the default search engine, you'll never be able to have predictions again!! This is a terrible bug, I mean WTF!!! Is there any workaround to that? I posted a bug report a while ago but it seems no one looks at it. I'm about to give up on Chrome and go back to IE, the only good thing about Chrome is the Extension market and the AdBlocker (which I can find in IE as well). The perfrormance changes don't matter to me too much. Thanks

• Project Server 2007 Task Updates hangs on 'Loading Grid...'

  A strange problem began occurring after applying MOSS2 (KB953334) and the August 2009 cumulative update to our Project server. When a user enters the 'Task Update' screen they are prompted to download a new ActiveX control. Upon refresh, and subsequent access attempts, the user is presented with a blank grid with the caption 'Loading Grid...' We have attempted to fix this issue by updating the 'Trusted Sites' list and changing the security settings according to KB818046. However, nothing seems to definitely fix the problem. Also, when the problem randomly fixes itself, it still occurs when viewing specific projects. Any ideas on a fix?

• Bind DHCP Server to Network Bridge

  My wireless router died, so I decided to route everything through my server. So I installed a second NIC and a wireless card to be my new network: 1 NIC to the Modem, 1 NIC to the switch, and the Wireless to... Well, wireless. Anyways, I got far enough to get DHCP to work on just ONE adapter when I used Internet Connection Sharing (I couldn't get RRAS set up for the life of me), then I decided to try bridging the wireless and second NIC. Now, the DHCP server won't bind to the bridge, but I can enter manual IP's in my clients and it'll connect to the Internet. I also tried changing my wireless adapter's IP to 192.168.0.2, and to 192.168.1.1 to try to set up a separate scope, but to no avail. Running Windows Server 2003

• Disable drop shadows around windows or the menu bar on OS X

  Nocturne has an option for disabling shadows around windows. But it's only available in night mode, and changing the mode (like when opening the application) causes an annoying screen flash animation. There's no way to disable the shadow under the menu bar either. MacThemes Forum / Removing the menubar dropshadow has a link to a .psd for making special desktop backgrounds that cancel out the shadow under the menu bar. But it only works if that area of the desktop picture has a low enough brightness. Some applications that cover the desktop (like DeskShade) also cover the menu bar's shadow. That's not a real solution though. Unsanity's ShadowKiller stopped working in either 10.5 or 10.6. (It does still work on 10.7.2, but the website says "NOT compatible with Mac OS X 10.6 Leopard", and I couldn't get it to work on a 10.6 installation.)   Wondering if it is possible to change the MAC address of a WiMAX USB adapter (read WiMAX, not Wi-Fi) manufactured by Motorola, ZTE, Intel etc. I've tried a few tools that did changed the MAC address of the adapter to another valid MAC address (that I coped from another equipment made by same company) but then I was not able to connect to the network, the connection software took long time stating "obtaining IP address"; then few seconds after it got one said "lost IP address". Wondering if changing MAC address of such devices actually work.

• Filtering junk mail in Outlook 2007

  I keep getting mail which I try to filter as junk. Problem is, it is sent from my e-mail address while writing that the name of the sender is "Viagra yada yada yada ([email protected])" I can't add a rule to outlook according to sender's name, right? Is there any other way I can filter those e-mails (I can't add a rule to junk-mail my own e-mail address). The subject of the e-mails keeps changing in the following formats: "Faruz 76% discount now!" "Faruz 80% discount now!" "Now! 78% discount Faruz" (They seem to have infinite ideas of saying the same thing... :) ) So I also seem to have problems filtering according to subject. ideas?

• Moving files fails due to privileges but they seem to be OK

  I am trying to copy old files from an OS X 10.5.8 to a new external HD. When trying to copy a folder I get the message: The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items. I've checked the privileges and they seem ok (read & write for me). What is curious is that the folder is created empty on the target drive and I can then copy the contents from inside the original folder to inside the new folder without changing anything else. This happens with several folders but not all and is making backup a pain. I have to figure out which folder broke the copy, copy its contents to the external disk and then select what hasn't been copied to copy (and eventually stop at some point and repeating the experience)

• SSH broken after hostname change on EC2-hosted Ubuntu

  I changed my instance's hostname using the hostname utility and then set it in /etc/hostname so that the new name survives reboot. My main motivation was for differentiating between instances at the prompt using the \h format in PS1. EDIT I also changed permissions on my home directory. I made my home directory group writeable. END EDIT Now I can no longer SSH into the machine. The short of it is the error Permission denied (publickey). Running ssh -v, the more verbose output is: debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey debug1: Next authentication method: publickey debug1: Offering RSA public key: /Users/dmitry/.ssh/id_rsa debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey debug1: Trying private key: /Users/dmitry/.ssh/ec2key.pem debug1: read PEM private key done: type RSA debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey debug1: No more authentication methods to try. Permission denied (publickey). Should I have done something after changing the hostname? Now I can't get into the instance! :(

• Blank white desktop icons on new Windows 7 install

  I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 professional on my father's Toshiba Satellite laptop and everything went smoothly except for the fact that certain desktop shortcuts appear as a blank white page. I've tried: going in and changing the icon to many different things reloading the icon cache by deleting the IconCache.db file uninstalling his Free AVG as he heard the virus scanner might be preventing it (it wasn't and he put it back.) The one thing these icons have in common is that they are shortcuts to some very old DOS executables. One of them is Word Star 2000 to give you an idea. Does anybody have any other suggestions besides what we've tried?

• NIC models for HVM guests in Xen 4.0

  Is there a list of NIC models that I should use with various HVM guests in Xen 4.0? Is there even a list of possible choices for the model=field? I'm planning on running both Windows and FreeBSD guests on the particular Xen box that I'm configuring now, and ideally I'd like a setting that can work on both of them and get me gigabit speeds without a lot of extra hassle loading special drivers (similar to VMware's e1000 NIC option). Any suggestions? The vif line I'm currently using in my config is: vif = [ 'type=ioemu,bridge=eth0,model=ne2k_pci,script=vif-ovs' ] This works in my Windows XP SP3 VM, but is only recognized as a 10Mbit interface. Changing to model=e1000 or model=i82557b resulted in Windows not being able to find a driver for the NIC.

• What are the implications of expanding an internal subnet mask?

  Our network is currently working on a 192.168.0.x subnet, all controlled through DHCP, except for the few main servers who have hard-configured IP address settings. What would I kill if I changed the DHCP-published subnet mask from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.0.0? The reason for doing this is not because we have a huge sudden influx of machines, but because I'd like to start partitioning specific devices into specific IP ranges (to be neat and tidy). For what its worth, I don' plan on changing the allocated DHCP address range, but rather want to move some of the reserved and excluded DHCP addresses out of the address pool. e.g. printers will be 192.168.2.x I will obviously need to change the subnet mask manually on my manually configured devices.

  Hello. Tune2fs allows to change inode size from default 128 bytes to almost anything (but it should be power of two). What can the the reasons of changing default inode size? Here http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-7433 is written, that this can be done to be able to store ACL attributes inside inodes. What else can be stored inside inode? May be some other attributes? Or anything else? Is there any reason to increase inode size on modern high-capacity drives (2TB and more)?

  I had to move a computer account from one OU to another OU for the settings to be same as with other computers in the OU. After the computer account was moved to other domain, i reset the computer account. Now there is no domain access to this computer even using domain admin acccount. The error message is that windows cannot connect to domain because your computer account was not found.I reset the computer account again and that didnt make any difference. Local admin access was possilbe and i tried to change the computer to workgroup to join back to domain, but workgroup changing option is greyed out. Is there any way I can solve this issue. • Stuck on Checking battery state at startup in Ubuntu, have splash screen no startup

  I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. When I boot up the computer it goes to the splash but there is no login screen, just the purple background and the mouse cursor. "Checking battery state" is the last line that does not have an "[OK]". When I press Ctr-alt-shift-F1 I can login and sudo stop gdm and startx. However this makes it so that the applets don't show. Error: "The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_notificationAreaApplet" and does it for every single applet. Everything else works fine though. I get a EHCI: BIOS handoff failed twice in the dmesg as well. The laptop has intel mobile integrated graphics. UPDATE: Now my desktop has the exact same problem. Things that I have tried: Changing to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="i915.modeset=1 acpi=off"

• Word2007 - Preventing mid-item line breaks in a list in a table

  It's not programming, but it's the paperwork you have to fill out ot get things to program. When you have a list with an item that's two lines long, and text above pushes it down such that a page break should fall between the two lines, Word pushes the item down so that both lines are on the following page - this is called Widow/Orphan Control and is an option on the Paragraph menu. When the list is inside of a table cell, however, this feature doesn't seem to work - which is what I'm looking to work around. Word doesn't push the item down automatically, so it breaks across two pages, as seen here: Solutions that have been tried: Playing with the options on the Paragraph tab: doesn't seem to do anything Changing the margins or text: this is a template and will need to always work Any ideas?

  Hello I have a problem with my PC getting the WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR bsod. It is a few months old pc. I am not overclocking or changing anything in bios, but sometimes (this is my third time) I get this bsod out of nowhere. This last time I was just watching some stream on twitch when the pc suddenly crashed. I have everything up to date in windows update and every other driver as well. Everything in Open hardware Monitor seems ok. Right now as of 10 min after the crash, the CPU temp is at 38°C, fans are at 1400RPM I am using Windows 8.1 Pro 64b.   Codeigniter rewrites query strings like the following: http://somedomain.com/index.php?q=something to become: http://somedomain.com/index.php/q/something I'd like to imitate this behavior on a (very) lightweight website I am developing for a wedding RSVP system. I don't want the bloat of codeigniter, nor do I need anything else that it provides. The only thing I'd like is this. Unfortunately, I don't know how to setup a mod-rewrite rule that accomplishes this. I can setup a rule that translates /q/something into ?q=something, but I can't get one that does that without changing the URL the user is viewing. I'm basically looking for something that is, in effect, a "silent" version of the rewrite. That is, I want something that rewrites q/something to ?q=something, but leaves the user's URL in their address bar as q/something. Thanks in advance!

• Samsung printer (ML-1640) margin problem

  I just got a new laser printer, Samsung ML-1640, and it has once again confirmed my experience that Samsung printers suck badly. The printer prints fine, except that the top margin is set at random, usually very small, cutting text on the top of page off. I tried updating firmware, getting new drivers, but nothing helped. I tried changing paper types, and it seemed that with the paper set as "plain" it was OK, but I just tried printing again after letting the printer rest for the night, and wasted 6 pages until I managed to print 2 boarding passes... Is there anything else I could try to resolve the issue?

  I am trying to get Openfire to install on an Ubuntu virtual machine, however upon completing the web based installer, I am unable to login to the admin panel. So far I: downloaded debian installer Installed using stock options Added database and built the structure using supplied sql file Completed web based installer I am now trying to login using username: admin and my password, however I constantly get a wrong username/password error. There is a record generated in the MySQL DB showing the admin user with an encrypted password, and changing to an unencoded password doesn't work. Can anyone help pinpoint the problem here? Thanks
