• hosting acounts for large uploads

  Hi, im wondering if anyone knows of any host providers ( uk preferably ) that deals mostly with accepting large file uploads. Most hosts only let you push something like 1.5mb ( thats taking into account the connection and the max execution time ). What i am looking for is a host specificaly for storing files on. I was going to create an upload script onto my application which posted the file to the external host and then return back ( using headers so the user doen't even know they have left ). Does anyone know of a host for this?

I have Table naemd as "Log" with column named as UserID,UserName,LogDate,LogTime and want to transfer data into other table named as "DataTable" with same column name. • Visual Studio add-in for performance benchmarking

  I'd like to measure the performance of some code blocks in my c# winforms application. In particular I want to measure performance regression/improvement after some restructuring of the code. So long I've seen the System.Diagnostics.Stopwatch. However, I want to avoid writing measuring code into my classes, I would rather prefer to separate measuring from actual code. As for debugging, you can set breakpoints on several code lines and "jump" from one to the next by "Continue Execution", I imagine something similar for measuring: Mark to lines of code and make Visual Studio display the time elapsing from one to the next. Is there any feature/add-in in that direction?

  Our application do the following. 1. Start the transaction. 2. Execute a query using prepared statement 3. Check a condition to see the number of rows updated are equal to the required number. 4. It commits on success of above condition otherwise it will roll back However the problem is that when two threads are simultaneously enter this code. Thread-1 is updating a row in step 2. It checked the condition and committed successfully since the condition is successful. Thread-2 started execution somewhere between steps 1 & 4, and it is failing on at condition checking at step 3 (as it is getting number of updated rows as 0). I expected second thread to throw an exception but it is not. What could be the problem?

• Is there unreachable code in this snippet? I don't think so, but Resharper is telling me otherwise.

  I have the following method I came across in a code review. Inside the loop Resharper is telling me that if (narrativefound == false) is incorrect becuase narrativeFound is always true. I don't think this is the case, because in order to set narrativeFound to true it has to pass the conditional string compare first, so how can it always be true? Am I missing something?   Hi guys, I like to know how to get the ClientID/UniqueID of a control inside a Detailsview controls EditItemTemplate element and when DetailsViews changing to Edit mode and DetailsView is inside a AJAX UpdatePanel.   I have a c#/winforms application that uses directx to play some video and audio. whenever i start my application in debugmode i get this annoying message. i can click "continue" and everything seems to work fine. but i still want to get rid of this message. it does not show up in releasemode. As described in Document Update Handlers, CouchDB 0.10 and later allows on-demand server-side document modification. Update handlers can process non-JSON formats; but the other major features are these: An HTTP front-end to arbitrarily complex document modification code Similar code needn't be written for all possible clients—a DRY architecture Execution is faster and less likely to hit a revision conflict I am unclear about the third point. Executing locally, the update handler will run much faster and with lower latency. But in situations with high contention, that does not guarantee a successful update. • Thread Local Memory for Scratch Memory.

  I am using Protocol Buffers and OpensSSL to generate, HMACs and then CBC encrypt the two fields to obfuscate the session cookies -- similar Kerberos tokens. Protocol Buffers' API communicates with std::strings and has a buffer caching mechanism; I exploit the caching mechanism, for successive calls in the the same thread, by placing it in thread local memory; additionally the OpenSSL HMAC and EVP CTX's are also placed in the same thread local memory structure ( see this question for some detail on why I use thread local memory and the massive amount of speedup it enables even with a single thread). The generation and deserialization, "my algorithms", of these cookie strings uses intermediary void *s and std::strings and since Protocol Buffers has an internal memory retention mechanism I want these characteristics for "my algorithms". So how do I implement a common scratch memory ? I don't know much about the rdbuf of the std::string object. I would presumeably need to grow it to the lowest common size ever encountered during the execution of "my algorithms". Thoughts ?

The HTML inside each of those boxes is an absolute nightmare, and even worse, the source code is compressed and it's unclear what the path of execution is. • Why is doing a top(1) on an indexed column in SQL Server slow?

  I'm puzzled by the following. I have a DB with around 10 million rows, and (among other indices) on 1 column (campaignid_int) is an index. Now I have 700k rows where the campaignid is indeed 3835 For all these rows, the connectionid is the same. I just want to find out this connectionid. use messaging_db; SELECT TOP (1) connectionid FROM outgoing_messages WITH (NOLOCK) WHERE (campaignid_int = 3835) Now this query takes approx 30 seconds to perform! I (with my small db knowledge) would expect that it would take any of the rows, and return me that connectionid If I test this same query for a campaign which only has 1 entry, it goes really fast. So the index works. How would I tackle this and why does this not work? edit: estimated execution plan: select (0%) - top (0%) - clustered index scan (100%)

• Using ADO.NET Entities LINQ Provider to model complex SQL Queries?

  What I find really powerful in ADO.NET Entities or LINQ to SQL, is the ability to model complex queries. I really don't need the mappings that Entities or LINQ to SQL are doing for me - I just need the ability to model complex expressions that can be translated into T-SQL. My question is - am I abusing too much? Can I use the Entity Framework for modeling queries and just that? Should I? I know I can write my own custom LINQ to SQL provider, but that is just not possible to handle in the time spans I have. What is the best approach to model complex T-SQL queries? How do you handle conditional group byes, orders, joins, unions etc in the OOP world? Using StringBuilders for this kind of job feels too ugly and harder to maintain given the possibilities we have with Expression Trees. When I use StringBuilder to model a complex SQL Query I feel kind of guilty! I feel the same way as when I have to hard code any number into my code that is different than 0 or 1. Feeling that makes you ask yourself if there is a better and cleaner way of doing it... I must mention that I am using C# 4.0, but I am not specifically looking for an answer in this language, but rather in the domain of CLR 4.

• MPI C fprintf() output not showing up if the process hangs on MPI_Recv

  I'm writing an MPI C program. I have troubles debugging it, because whenever I use fprintf, like this: fprintf(stdout, "worker: %d", worker); if the program hangs, because of some blocking MPI_Recv, I can't see any output. I'm sure the line of code is reached, because I can put a return statement after the fprintf statement, in which case the process finishes execution and the output is printed. Any ideas, on how to print (see the output) even though the process gets blocked later by Recv? I hope this makes sense.

• Selenium / FlashSelenium calling the wrong methods?

FlashSelenium is involved so I'm not sure where along the way lies the bug. Furthermore it's hard to reproduce as it doesn't happen only for some methods, and doesn't always happen. I've tried searching for issues similar to these but couldn't find any remotely similar... Anyone experienced the same behavior? And if so, is there a fix for it? Edit: I doubt FlashSelenium is at fault for this, as the log tells that the command arrives correctly at the server... But I can't seem to be able to follow the path of execution from the moment the Selenium server gets the command and passes over to the browser, to the moment where it gets the response.

I have the problem, that I have an migration in Rails that sets up a default setting for a column, like this example: def self.up add_column :column_name, :bought_at, :datetime, :default => Time.now end Suppose, I like to drop that default settings in a later migration, how do I do that with using rails migrations? My current workaround is the execution of a custom sql command in the rails migration, like this: def self.up execute 'alter table column_name alter bought_at drop default' end But I don't like this approach, because I am now dependent on how the underlying database is interpreting this command. In case of a change of the database this query perhaps might not work anymore and the migration would be broken. So, is there a way to express the undo of a default setting for a column in rails? • Can I make valgrind ignore glibc libraries?

  Is it possible to tell valgrind to ignore some set of libraries? Specifically glibc libraries.. Actual Problem: I have some code that runs fine in normal execution. No leaks etc. When I try to run it through valgrind, I get core dumps and program restarts/stops. Core usually points to glibc functions (usually fseek, mutex etc). I understand that there might be some issue with incompatible glibc / valgrind version. I tried various valgrind releases and glibc versions but no luck. Any suggestions?

• How to catch exception on RollBack

  What is the best way to implement error handling for a SqlTransaction RollBack that already exists within a catch clause? My code is roughly like this: using (SqlConnection objSqlConn = new SqlConnection(connStr)) { objSqlConn.Open(); using (SqlTransaction objSqlTrans = objSqlConn.BeginTransaction()) { try { // code // more code // and more code } catch (Exception ex) { // What happens if RollBack() has an exception? objSqlTrans.Rollback(); throw ex; } } } I believe that my application had an exception in the try block, which in turn was caught in the catch block and then the RollBack was attempted. However, the error that I'm seeing says something about a SqlTransaction.ZombieCheck(), which is making me wonder if the RollBack() itself threw an exception as well. So, do I need to implement some type of error handling at the RollBack()? How do I do that and manage to hold on to the exception that put the execution into the catch block in the first place?
