  • Lotus Notes: Searching email by fields

    I'm using Lotus Notes 8.5.2 in a large corporate deployment. I'm trying to figure out how to search my email in a structured manner, e.g. by specifying criteria on fields. The help seems to suggest that I can use fields in square brackets and a list of operators, e.g. to find all mail where the From field contains John, I'd search for /[From] CONTAINS John However, I can't get this to work - any operator style query I've tried returns zero documents. "Web-style" queries (e.g. typing John into the search dialog) work, but I'd really prefer a way that would let me search more precisely. Potential issues: I'm assuming that the field names can be taken from the list of things I see when I open a mail and look at its Document Properties. Full text indexing is turned off for my mailbox, and all my attempts to create my own have failed. Does anyone have better information on searching by from/date/subject conditions in Notes?

  • Booting Ubuntu shows only cursor, no desktop features

    I'm trying to install Ubuntu and have been trying since 2010 on my Win XP (2006-2008 I don't know which year's version exactly). I'm trying to get rid of XP and every time I install Ubuntu it doesn't work. I've tried all the options on the install list from Wubi and from inside the installer. I've tried a lot of different stuff and all it will load is a mouse cursor and a black screen. Please do help out with suggestions/advice. Thanks in advance.

  • Can't n run a bootable cd of ubuntu desktop on a laptop with no OS

    I recorded a bootable CD with the image that I downloaded from the Ubuntu site, using NTI CD MAKER. My laptop had a problem and I prefered to get it fixed without installing an OS. Now, when I try to run this CD it shows the following error mssage: Device driver not found: 'MSCD001'. No valid CDROM device drivers were selected Mouse driver was previously installed A:\> If the drive wasn't working the CD wouldn't even start, I assume....So can anyone help me please! Thank you!

  • Is having a single `IndexWriter` instance in Lucene a good idea?

    I am trying to understand how Lucene should be used. From what I have read, creating an IndexReader is costly, so using a Search Manager shoulg be the right choice. However, a SearchManager should be produced by a NRTManager(which, by the way, should replace the IndexWriter for every add or delete operation performed). But in order to have a NRTManager, I should first have an IndexWriter, and here comes my problem. The documentation says: an IndexWriter is thread-safe the constructor of this class takes a Directory object, so it seems creating an instace should be costly(as in the case of an IndexReader) all changes are buffered and flushed periodically(so they seem to encourage using a single instance) but: the changes, although flushed will only be visible after commit or close after finished making updates(add/delete), the instance should be closed I also found this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5374419/forgot-to-close-the-lucene-indexwriter-after-adding-documents-to-the-index where it is said that not closing a writer might ruin everything So what am I really supposed to do? In Ubuntu 12.04, opening a file in gedit or I am working on the command line, in dpkg, I get returned the error "locale not supported, falling back to default "C" libraries", and the one below, Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library. Using the fallback 'C' locale. The locales were not set correctly, and locale LANG and LANGUAGE were the culprits. I picked my way through this. The answer, correct below.

    I have two FullHD monitors attached to my ATI graphics card [2]. The resolution of both of them is detected properly without any modifications to /etc/X11/xorg.conf. I can run both of them in clone mode. However, when I try to run them next to each other, I got the following error: The selected configuration for displays could not be applied. If tried to fix this according to [1]. My xorg.conf now looks like this: Section "Module" Load "glx" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" # The 1088 is the smallest multiple of 32 >= 1088 # see manpages Virtual 1920 1088 EndSubSection EndSection This does not seem to be parsed properly.     I have just installed Ubuntu 14.04 and I need to install an Ethernet driver. When on windows 7 the machine used the Atheros AR8152 Ethernet driver. I have looked at other similar questions on this site, but the solutions never worked out for me as the solutions were mainly aimed towards laptops that had a wireless internet connection to retrieve updates. I cant find any driver packages for Linux so I really need some help. Thanks

I have selected Gnome Classic without effects but I am missing the theme: flux (not fluxbox window manager, just the GTK theme for Gnome, as I used to be able to do in 8.04 when I last considered switching distro).     Developing a Game Engine I am planning a computer game and its engine. There will be a 3 dimensional world with first person view and it will be single player for now. The programming language is C++ and it uses OpenGL. Data Centered Design Decision My design decision is to use a data centered architecture where there is a global event manager and a global data manager. There are many components like physics, input, sound, renderer, ai, ... Each component can trigger and listen to events. Moreover, each component can read, edit, create and remove data. The question is about the data manager. Whether to Use a Relational Database Should I use a SQL Database, e.g. SQLite or MySQL, to store the game data? This contains virtually all game content like items, characters, inventories, ... Except of meshes and textures which are even more performance related, so I will keep them in memory. Is a SQL database fast enough to use it for realtime reading and writing game informations, like the position of a moving character? I also need to care about cross-platform compatibility. Aside from keeping everything in memory, what alternatives do I have? Advantages Would Be The advantages of using a relational database like MySQL would be the data orientated structure which allows fast computation. I would not need objects for representing entities. I could easily query data of objects near the player needed for rendering. And I don't have to take care about data of objects far away. Moreover there would be no need for savegames since the hole game state is saved in the database. Last but not least, expanding the game to an online game would be relative easy because there already is a place where the hole game state is stored.

    Originally posted on StackOverflow, and edited for clarity I have a custom Content Type inside a list that has over 30 items (Which were uploaded via DockIt), and I have added several "managed properties" to the "crawled properties", in the SSP. All of them work except 1. The column "Synopsis" is a multiline field with no limit on it's length. It appears as a crawled property "Synopsis", and is mapped to a managed property 'asynop'. On the 'Advanced Search Page', it is added as a property and searchable, however it only returns a some matching records (if any). I manually created an entry, ran the crawl and was able to search for it. I edited an existing entry, ran the crawl (full and incremental), and it still only returned the manually entered entry. If I entered the search term in the Search box directly "asynop:fatigue", then all the correct results appear. Why is this happening? And could it please stop?

In practice this pattern doesn't seem to scale well because as the search criteria expands I keep adding more and more conditions which looks and feels unpleasant/repetitive. How can I refactor this pattern? One idea I have is to create a column in every table that is "searchable" which could be a computed column that concatenates all the data from the different columns (SQL Server 2008). So instead of having movie genre and title it would be something like. if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(searchString)) { movies = movies.Where(s => s.SearchColumn.Contains(searchString)); } What are the performance/design/architecture implications of doing this? I have also tried using procedures that use dynamic queries but then I have just moved the ugliness to the database. E.g.   • How do I prevent Ubuntu gradually slowing down to a stop?

    I really do not know what is causing the problem of my desktop environment (D.E.) gradually slowing down. It seems to happen in Gnome 3.2, LXDE, XFCE, and KDE. I am running Ubuntu 11.10 and this problem started happening from a fresh install. I have noticed that if I restart Gnome or otherwise re-log-in with any of the D.E.s the speed resets to normal. I don't seem to have and memory leaks that account for it and there are not any processes that are using excessive CPU cycles. Due to the symptoms I am guessing that there is an underlying package that interacts with all D.E.s that is the source of the problem. Just to clarify, in extreme situations, if I let the slowdown continue without a restart of the D.E. my system will finally get to a point where everything, even my clock, freezes. The time over which Gnome slows down (noticeably after 17 hrs) is much less than LXDE, or XFCE but eventually they freeze as well. I didn't mention Unity since I haven't used it enough to verify the problem, but I don't see why it should be different. Just in case this is relevant, I Suspend my computer rather than turn it off. I do this because of the greatly reduced load time and the 17 hrs I stated above is actual up-time, not time where the D.E. is actually active. However, the slow down does not seem to be affected by how long the computer has been in suspend mode. I know that it is possible that this problem is due to an interaction between two or more of the applications that I use and as such it may not be able to be duplicated by others. In the end I am just wondering (a) are other people experiencing this issue and (b) does anyone have some advice on where to start looking for a solution if one is not already known. I am even open to the idea of switching to the beta release of 12.04 if anyone thinks it will solve the problem. Edit: Since that video I checked my memory for errors and tried installing the proprietary video drivers. No memory errors were found and the proprietary video drivers made the display unusable so I had to uninstall them. Any thoughts?

  • Purpose oriented user accounts on a single desktop?

    Starting point: I currently do development for Dynamics Ax, Android and an occasional dabble with Wordpress and Python. Soon, I'll start a project involving setting up WP on Google Apps Engine. Everything is, and should continue to, run from the same PC (running Linux Mint). Issue: I'm afraid of botching/bogging down my setup due to tinkering/installing multiple runtimes/IDE's/SDK's/Services, so I was thinking of using multiple users, each purposed to handle the task at hand (web, Android etc) and making each user as inert as possible to one another. What I need to know is the following: Is this a good/feasible practice? The second closest thing to this using remote desktops connections, either to computers or to VM's, which I'd rather avoid. What about switching users? Can it be made seamless? Anything else I should know? Update and clarification regarding VM's and whatnot: The reason I wish to avoid resorting to VM's is that I dislike the performance impact and sluggishness associated with it. I also suspect it might add a layer of complexity I wish to avoid. This answer by Wyatt is interesting but I think it's only partly suited for requirements (web development for example). Also, in reference to the point made about system wide installs, there is a level compromise I should accept as experessed by this for example. This option suggested by 9000 is also enticing (more than VM's actually) and by no means do I intend to "Juggle" JVMs and whatnot, partly due to the reason mentioned before. Regarding complexity, I agree and would consider what was said, only from my experience I tend to pollute my work environment with SDKs and runtimes I tried and discarded, which would occasionally leave leftovers which cause issues throught the session. What I really want is a set of well defined, non virtualized sessions from which I can choose at my leisure and be mostly (to a reasonable extent) safe from affecting each session from the other. And what I'm really asking is if and how can this be done using user accounts.

    I'm looking for a desktop board that supports either VT-D (Intel) or IOMMU (AMD) technology. This is the IO virtualization technology, not VT-x for CPU virtualization. I've found a list of chipsets that are purported to have this, but every board I look at, the vendor has decided to not support that feature. I would really prefer a desktop board over a server board for this. Does anyone have a specific model that is known to support this technology?

    What's the better way to manage the image files of my app? i've been thinking about the way that i do right now (save the image as a BLOB IN db), and i ask myself if would be better to manage the image as text in my DB, i mean, convert the image to hex(length of 500), then save in the db as text, and when calling it convert it from hex to image, or something like that, but what do you consider as an Experienced Progammer that is the better way? Maybe the question is too broad, but i need to know that, and nobody answers me anywhere...
