• Regexing it up with IIS re-write module

  I am developing a profile-based web application where each user is assigned there own url through their username & iis rewrite mod's magic. A typical user's profile url would be http://www.mymark.com/mike Each user is also created a blog in a multi-user wordpress installation. The wordpress url would look like this: http://www.mymark.com/blog/mike I am trying to use the rewrite module to create more canonical urls for the user (http://www.mymark.com/mike/blog), and have tried several regex variations that I have created through RegExr(a regex generation tool) and come up with this as the pattern to match (www.|)mymark.com/([^/]+)/blog but haven't had any success so far. What am I doing wrong here? Here is a screen shot of my re-write rule:

• Reset form with jQuery

  I have a form with a standard reset button coded thusly: <input type="reset" class="button standard" value="Clear" /> Trouble is, said form is of the multi-stage sort, so if a user fills out a stage & then returns later, the 'remembered' values for the various fields won't reset when the Clear button is clicked. I'm thinking that attaching a jQuery function to loop over all the fields and clear them 'manually' would do the trick. I'm already using jQuery within the form, but am only just getting up to speed & so am not sure how to go about this, other than individually referencing each field by ID, which doesn't seem very efficient. TIA for any help.

• Translating external api results in Drupal

  We're building a multi-language Drupal stack and one of the concerns we have is that our payment processor is going to have to send back some information to us. We've been able to narrow this down so that the strings they're sending back look like <country code>-<number of months> so we can easily translate that into any number of languages, except English. t('FR-12') is all well and good if we want to translate that into a french description, but because there's not an English language a similar string like t('EN-12') is not translatable. Similarly for the generic string: #API_Connection_Error This sort of generic string approach seemed really compelling to me at first but it seems to not work in Drupal. Do you have any suggestions about how to translate generic strings like this into both English and other languages? Thank you, I've been looking through Google all morning.

• Polling versus socket servers for online Flash games

  Hi, I want to make an online flash game, it will have social features but the gameplay will be primarily single-player. For example, no two players will appear on the screen at once, the social interaction will be through asynchronous messages, there won't be real-time chat or anything. Much of the logic would happen in the client, the server would validate the client logic, but it wouldn't need to be totally synchronous, which is why I'm thinking polling might be satisfactory. I have read in many places that socket servers can be more efficient than using polling for online games, but is that mainly a consideration for games that are more multi-player with more mult-player interactions than the game I have descriebed? If many users are playing online at the same time, but each playing a relatively isolated game, and not interacting to in real-time with each players, could polling be okay, or would using sockets be advisable no matter what if you have an online game that you envision many people playing at the same time? I want to use Mozilla plataform to develop desktop applications that need most access to computer serial port and some applications that have nothing to do with web.   Hi to all I develop web crawling service (windows service / multi-thread) . its work fine, but sometimes my server network not response. and i can't ping server IP (from internet), but can ping by other network card (local ip) that not access to internet. after i open server with remote desktop and stop crawling service. i could ping. What's my problem? Bandwidth limit or max connection limit exceed or ??? how to prevent this issue? Note: when this problem occur, i open browser for browse web site, but can't open any website!!! • Agile Approach for WCM

  Can anyone provide me with advice, opinions, or experience with using an agile methodology to delivery an enterprise-scale Web Content Management system (e.g., Interwoven TeamSite, Tridion)? My current opinion is that to implement a CM system there is a certain--relatively high--amount of upfront work that needs to happen to make sure the system is going to be scalable and efficient for future projects for the multi-year lifespan an WCM is expected to have. This suggests a hybrid approach at best, if not a more waterfall-like approach. I'm really interested to learn what approaches others have taken. Thanks.

• What *collaborative* wireframing / UI mockup tools are out there?

  I'm looking for something that applies the collaboration focus (one location/URL, always up-to-date, multi-person online read/write access anywhere) of google docs / google spreadsheets to wireframing. Bonus points if, like Google Docs, it needs only a browser yet also works offline. More bonus points if it supports automatic revisions. Even more bonus points if you can hand out login-less 'invitation' URLs like Flickr does, instead of forcing people into signing up for accounts or using their home accounts. To start off, there's one called iPlotz, but it didn't enchant me -- ironically, mostly because of its akward UI, which can't hold a candle to omnigraffle (don't let that prevent you from giving it a try though). And no, paper prototyping, wonderful as it is, does not qualify: it does not combine being instantly globally shareable & editable very well :-)

  I'm consolidating my Xcode/TextMate setup and is interested in where you put your build dir. Some years ago I started out having the build dir in the same dir as my xcodeproj file. However it became a mess when my project became a multi project with a applications and frameworks and tests, so I started using ../build as the build dir, so that all the sub projects used the same dir. However Spotlight is indexing this build dir and TextMate's global find is unusable when there is a build dir in the project. I'm thinking either using ~/.build or /build as Xcode's build dir. What build dir do you use and why?

• losing session in rails 2.3.2 app using subdomain

  i have a 2.2.3 app which i upgraded to 2.3.2 it's a multi-site (using subdomain) that creates one top level session for all sites. this is how i change the domain in production.rb: ActionController::Base.session_options[:domain] = "xxx.com" # in rails 2.2.2, this is what i used to do: # ActionController::Base.session_options[:session_domain] = "xxx.com" strange things started to happen after i upgraded i can no longer login using restful authentication; it does authenticate me, but as soon as i'm redirected, it would ask me to login again. as i said, i use restful_authentication and i also use passenger 2.1.2. anyone can help?

  I am trying to understand the best way of implementing a DropDownList in ASP.NET MVC 2 using the DropDownListFor helper. This is a multi-part question. First, what is the best way to pass the list data to the view? Pass the list in your model with a SelectList property that contains the data Pass the list in via ViewData How do I get a blank value in the DropDownList? Should I build it into the SelectList when I am creating it or is there some other means to tell the helper to auto create an empty value? Lastly, if for some reason there is a server side error and I need to redisplay the screen with the DropDownList, do I need to fetch the list values again to pass into the view model? This data is not maintained between posts (at least not when I pass it via my view model) so I was going to just fetch it again (it's cached). Am I going about this correctly?

Even if it has the "m" (multiline) modifier...

• Python threads all executing on a single core

  I have a Python program that spawns many threads, runs 4 at a time, and each performs an expensive operation. Pseudocode: for object in list: t = Thread(target=process, args=(object)) # if fewer than 4 threads are currently running, t.start(). Otherwise, add t to queue But when the program is run, Activity Monitor in OS X shows that 1 of the 4 logical cores is at 100% and the others are at nearly 0. Obviously I can't force the OS to do anything but I've never had to pay attention to performance in multi-threaded code like this before so I was wondering if I'm just missing or misunderstanding something. • How to change font size in a pickerview?

  I'm fairly new to iPhone programming and am trying to implement a double-component PickerView. At this point the picker works fine in terms of taking user input, created with Interface Builder. However, I need to change the font size to accommodate the text length in each column. I very much would appreciate any link to a straightforward method to creating a multi-component picker with an adjustable font size. Seems like it is not possible if Interface Builder is used to create the picker. So far I have not found any code links that address this issue in detail. Thanks in advance.

• Castle ActiveRecord: session error search and access to lazy loading property in different threads

  Hi *, I've got a problem with an multi-threaded desktop application using Castle ActiveRecord in C#: To keep the GUI alive while searching for the objects based on userinput I'm using the BackgroundWorker for the search-function. Some of the properties of the objects, especially some HasMany-Relations, are marked as Lazy. Now, when the search is finished and the user selects an resulting object, some of the properties of this object should be displayed. But as the search was done by the BackgroundWorker in a different thread, accessing the properties fails as the session for the lazy-access is no longer available. What will be the best way to do the search in an extra thread to keep the GUI alive and to access all properties correctly including those marked as lazy? Thanks for any advise! Regards sc911

  In my Silverlight app I want a multi-line text box to expand every time the user hits Enter. The difficult part is how to calculate the correct height based on the number of text lines. I have tried the following but the textbox becomes too small: box.Height = box.FontSize*lineCount + box.Padding.Top + box.Padding.Bottom + box.BorderThickness.Top + box.BorderThickness.Bottom; What am I missing here? Or maybe it can be done automatically somehow? Thanks, Jacob Edit: I suspect the problem to be in the FontSize property (does it use another size unit?)
