• Upgrading OpenSSL in CentOS 5.3

  I want to use one IP to host many domains with individual SSL certificates (requires SNI). In CentOS 5.3, the latest version of OpenSSL I can find an RPM for is 0.9.8e, which does not support SNI. I want to upgrade to 0.9.8k but I can't find an RPM. I could compile from source, but if I try to remove the existing OpenSSL package through yum, it wants me to remove all packages that depend on OpenSSL (100+ packages). EDIT: I ended up installing 0.9.8k without overwriting the previous version. Now I both avoid breaking dependencies and can use SNI. Was this the best action?

• Connect server to router with workstation in between?

  I have a server (9 yr old Dell with Ubuntu 10.04 Server Edition) and a workstation (Laptop with Vista) which are both connected to a router. The workstation is able to access the server via web browser for testing my web development projects. Since the server is old and does not have a wireless card, I am wondering if it is possible to connect the server directly to the workstation while maintaining the ability to connect to the server from the workstation. The reason is that the computers are in a separate room from the router and I am trying to limit the amount of wires on the floor, along with trying to avoid buying more hardware (like a wireless card). • How can I fix this configure error?

  I'm trying to build mosh from source on a SUSE10 machine and am getting the following error: checking for protobuf... no configure: error: Package requirements (protobuf) were not met: No package 'protobuf' found Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix. Alternatively, you may set the environment variables protobuf_CFLAGS and protobuf_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for more details. I downloaded the source to protobuf and installed it in a custom path as well. I'm not using a package manager for any of this and cannot for various reasons outside the scope of the question. I added that custom path to my PATH and rehashed. Typically, this is enough for configure but in this case its not doing the trick. I added the prefix for protobuf to PKG_CONFIG_PATH but am still hitting this error. What should I do next to get past this error?

• Mod_rewrite not working on ISPConfig 3 Server

  Problem I recently migrated a Drupal site from a shared hosting server to my own VM. Everything appears to work correctly, except clean urls. My VM Setup Ubuntu 10.04 LAMP ISPConfig 3 What I've tried From reading up on a number of drupal forums I've tried the following in this order Check that mod_rewrite is installed and enabled Changed PHP from FastCGI to Mod_PHP (prefer to use FastCGI or suPHP though to avoid having tmp/files folders with 777 permissions) Changed the Redirect type to L in ISPConfig Sites-domain.com-Redirect Changed /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default <Directory /var/www/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All ... </Directory> Not sure about points 3 and 4, I do want all domains to be able to use mod_rewrite out of the box. Question Have I done something wrong or am I missing a step? Ultimately I would like to use FastCGI and clean urls working on all ISPConfig 3 domains without having to make any changes to individual domain settings. Any ideas appreciated, I'll try them all.

If both Ip addresses point to the same server, it does not help? I mean each server has own Ip address. If one server down, then visitors can access website (files) on another server? Is this the reason why need more than one Ip? Tried to point website to 2 ip addresses and after some time get warning from uptimerobot Connection Timeout

  How do I create a calendar appointment from an e-mail in Outlook 2011 for Mac? In Windows, the e-mail content and attachments are carried over just by dragging and dropping. Dragging and dropping on the Mac doesn't work. Is there any other function to take an e-mail and make it a calendar appointment? I'm trying to avoid emailing it to myself. Edit: Since someone went to the trouble to make email2task, is it safe to assume this feature is not available otherwise?

• Avoiding double NAT with PPPoA connection

  I've got an ASUS RT-N56U wending its way to me and have been thinking about how to set this up on my home network. I currently have a Netgear DG634g V5 and was hoping to use this device as a modem only, with everything else being done by the router. Problem is, my ISP uses PPPoA and the asus seems only to support PPPoE. I'm aware that a double NAT configuration should be avoided and I've seen some instructions here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/33700-17-ultimate-modem-router-setup-thread Specifically, I was going to follow the guidance in the section entitled "Chaining Two Networks Together In a Cascading Fashion (Modem handles PPPoA)". That seems like it could work. However, is this a double NAT configuration or even a good way to do it? Would UPnP still work? The other option, I understand, is to buy the Draytek Vigor 120 but I'd ideally like to avoid the cost of that if its not necessary.

• Outlook rules not working together

  I have multiple Outlook (2010) rules and these 2 are having issues together: Rule 1: Apply this rule after the message arrives with blahname in the sender's address and move it to the BlahBox folder. Rule 2: Apply this rule after the message arrives from [email protected] move it to the NoReply folder. If I have rule 1 above rule 2, only rule 1 works (noreply emails stay in the Inbox folder). If I swap and have rule 2 above rule 1, only rule 2 works (blahname emails stay in the Inbox folder). What am I doing wrong; how can I fix this so it applies both rules on incoming email? I'm fairly certain the two rules should never intersect (blahname != domain.com). Also I do not have "this computer only" checked on any rules, I avoid client-only rules.

• What ports tend to be unfiltered by boneheaded firewalls?

  Hi all, I like to be able to ssh into my server (shocking, I know). The problem comes when I'm traveling, where I face a variety of firewalls in hotels and other institutions, having a variety of configurations, sometimes quite boneheaded. I'd like to set up an sshd listening on a port that has a high probability of getting through this mess. Any suggestions? The sshd currently listens on a nonstandard (but < 1024) port to avoid script kiddies knocking on the door. This port is frequently blocked, as is the other nonstandard port where my IMAP server lives. I have services running on ports 25 and 80 but anything else is fair game. I was thinking 443 perhaps.   Hello ! Currently I have purchased web hosting with ssh access. I have created a git repository on it and if I set my public key in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file, I have access to that repo, I can push/pull data, etc. This solution allows access for every user that has his public key in authorized_keys file. But there is one thing that I want to avoid. Every user can login to the server too and has access to whole ssh account. Is it possible to create a blacklist of users' keys that will not have an access to ssh ? I see it that way: user logs in to a git - ok, allow for every one user logs in to ssh account ~/.profile file is hooked and called a custom script: check user's public key if public key is in ~/.ssh/blacklist_keys call bash exit/logout Is it possible in any way ?

  I am working on creating a small cloud (any number of EC2 instances that can be deployed based on load) implementing a VPN as a service for the company I'm working for. This is basically a project gathering together various vpn resources under one aegis as a cloud based service. As a user of openvpn, I'm somewhat familiar with being able to connect, but I'm looking for resources to start this project. Essentially I need to be able to: run a certificate authority and manage keys to distribute to coworkers build an ami that handles openvpn as a service balance the load if necessary among machines instances as needed Any suggestions for tutorials, things to avoid, roadblocks I might not be seeing from a novice perspective, etc. or just help in visualizing this is appreciated.

  A simple question, but I have no concrete documentation to confirm my answer. When installing software with the make install command under a unix machine, the default path is going over to /usr/local/bin. I would like to update a package system-wide under /usr/bin. How (and where) do I change the command under make or make install to /usr/bin? Also - Can the package remain on /usr/local/bin but the systemwide usage of Python (the update being installed) be changed to /usr/local/bin from /usr/bin to avoid modifying the original installed version ?

• Is there a convenient way to manually copy the Log Shipping *.trn files from one SQL 2008 server to

  We have a remote SQL 2008 server (ServerB) that needs to keep a warm (15 minute interval is OK) copy of production data (ServerA). ServerA is also SQL 2008. Log Shipping looks like it will do the job. We can only get to the destination ServerB with remote desktop. Is there a way to set this up when we can't get to both servers from one Management Studio? We want to be able to temporarily (until a VPN is setup between our network and the ServerB network) manually export a small .trn file, copy it via remote desktop to ServerB and then manually import those transactions from the .trn file. My supervisor says he saw a post saying this is possible. We were just trying to avoid doing a full database backup and copying that every time. Thanks in advance for any suggestions on this.

  I'm developing an application that provides a UI to windump, the packet sniffer. Windump has a "-D" parameter that lists all network interfaces it can find, and then you can specify which interface to listen on. However, I'd like to avoid forcing the user to manually configure which interface to listen on. On Unix, I can obtain the right network interface (en0, en1, etc.) via a call to ifconfig and some parsing of the output, but I cannot locate any equivalent Windows API or command that can yield similar information--ipconfig doesn't seem to obtain this data. Can anyone suggest either a Windows command-line tool or an API that can be called via VBScript to obtain this data so that I don't have to present the user with a dialog in my GUI telling them to select the right interface?

• Restoring Box Sync (box.com) using physical media after OS reinstall

  I have my Box Folder on a different drive ( D: ) than my Operating System Drive ( C: ) I follow these instructions to set the local folder on the second drive. https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/200852947-How-Can-I-Change-the-Default-Folder-Location-for-Box-Sync- I had to format and reinstall Windows 7, leaving the other drive (D: ) untouched. now i reinstalled Box Sync, and directed it to the same location where i already have all my files. However, Box Sync renamed the folder to (Box ([email protected]) ) as a bckup, and is downloading everything again. As i have like 30Gb of files, and it takes many hour to download them, i just want to use the files that i already have in my local disk. i tried copying all files again to the new local Box Folder, but files started to get duplicated. Is there any way to avoid downloading everything again each time i reinstall my OS ? Thanks

  What filetypes does iTunes not recognize ? I have a bunch of flac files, some avi videos, and none of them seem to be in my iTunes library. Nothing happens when I import them ( via Drag & Drop, importing them via File - Add files). Is there any way for iTunes to manage them ? I really want to use a single app for all my media management, and it was WMP prior to purchasing my iPhone, and now with the iPhone, but with these limitations, it seems I will have to mix and match both, which I want to avoid. Any options ?

  How should I setup sharing/directory permissions to allow the following to work: VMHost - Hyper-V partition (not part of domain) ADServer - Active Directory Domain Controller running as guest VM on VMHost \VMHost\Updates disk share for WSUS to put the updates and other local files Problem is what permissions do I need to give to \VMHost\Updates to allow WSUS to work with this directory to avoid "The WSUS content directory is not accessible" error which I am currently seeing. As far as I can tell WSUS runs as "domain/Network Service" account. Question is without adding VMHost to the domain how do I give that user appropriate permissions to this directory? Is there a way that VMHost can be told to trust ADServer and then be able to use users accounts from there?   Hi, I have configured my Postfix server with vacation for a domain. Sending a message to [email protected] causes two events: The message is delivered to the recipient ([email protected]) An auto-reply message is sent to the sender, alerting that [email protected] should be used instead. Everything works well except for one particular drawback: the auto-reply is also sent to the recipient, so it receives two messages in the end. What can I do to avoid that? I'm only using the $TO variable in the custom vacation.msg message. And here is Postfix's master.cf vacation line: autoreply unix - n n - - pipe flags=Rhu user=vacation argv=/usr/bin/vacation -j -m /home/vacation/.vacation.msg -f /home/vacation/.vacation.db vacation I know using the -j is a little bit risky according to man page, but I'm kind of testing here.

• pfsense CARP - wan failure on firewall

  I have recently configured 2 firewall (on 2 DELL PowerEdge R210II with ESXI 5.1) with pfsense. We have several LANs and 2 WANs. Everything is running fine but i have a strange behavior: i can access internet from alla LANs but not from the firewall (itself). For example the firewall cannot retrive package information or if i setup a gatway monitor ip (like google 8.8.8.8 ) this fails. • Cannot schedule task to run under domain user account other than current user

  On our Win 2008 machines I can't schedule tasks for domain users because the domain name does not resolve to network name but the AD dc name. The "network name" looks like ABCDEFGE-HIJKLM and the "dc" / "name" would look like ABCDEFGE-HIJKLMN. When selecting the domain user account the account qualifier will look like ABCDEFGE-HIJKLMN\task.user. This results in an "invalid account" error. When however keeping the currently logged in user it will display ABCDEFGE-HIJKLM\current.user. Does this behaviour result from the presumable "illegal" domain name? Is there a workaround for this? update I could of course log in as the desired domain account and create the task but since this account is a account used for running services I want to avoid creating a user profile on the machine.

• Longlasting Macport installation

  Hi, I use Macports on Mac OSX to install some software. But there are somethings that I find very strange. For instance, yesterday I installed some app. and the it needed to get gcc43 and compile completely from source! It took a lot of time, although now everything works right. I understand that compilation of everything in the gentoo spirit is eomthing nice, but in the Mac case, not necessary. There are ony sole hardware variations, so it will be easier to get the binaries. I wonder if Macporst can be forced to get the binaries when available and therefore avoid these time consuming compilations. Thanks

• Populating cells with data from another spreadsheet after just keying in a few letters

  I have 1 workbook with 2 spreadsheets. Spreadsheet 2 column A contains a long list of company names, Columns B - H contain critical information about the company. Spreadsheet 1 contains all of the columns as Spreadsheet 2 plus some other columns. What I'm trying to achieve is that when you start to type in the first 3 characters of a company name on Spreadsheet 1 it would then have a drop down of the companies (as listed on Spreadsheet 2) that share the first 3-5 letters and you would select one. Upon selecting a company name all of the corresponding company information would populate in the other columns on spreadsheet 1 automatically. This is to avoid copying a row from Spreadsheet 2 and pasting it in Spreadsheet 1. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

• How can I keep websites from knowing where I live?

  This questions is related to issues and practicality, not security. I live in Brazil and, apparently, every single website I visit knows about it. Usually that's ok, but there are quite a few sites that don't make use of that information adequately. For instance: Bing keeps thinking that brazilian pages are way more relevant to me than american ones (which they're not). Google.com always redirects me to google.com.br. Microsoft automatically sends me to horribly translated support pages in portuguese (which would just be easier to read in english). These are just a few examples. Usually it's stuff I can live with (or work around), but some of them are just plain irritating. I have geolocation disabled in firefox, so I guess they're either getting this information from my IP or from windows itself (which I bought here). Is there a way to avoid this? Either tell them nothing or make them think I live somewhere else? Thanks
