• Mysql adapter for Zend_Translate

  Hi everybody, I'm currently in the planning phase of a rather large project that I'll develop in the Zend Framework. One of the problems I'm facing is that the customers will want to translate not only the content but also the interface. I'm currently using gettext and poedit to manage my language files but this is not an option for the customer as they, for one, want have FTP access to the site. Hence, I'm thinking of a mysql back end with an interface in the front end for the customer to manage his own translations of the interface. There is however still no mysql adapater for Zend_Translate. So, does anybody now of an adapter script for Zend_Translate so it can work with a mysql table? Or any arguments against using mysql and possible other solutions for this problem?

• Closing an EDM ObjectContext?

  I am getting started with the ADO.NET Entity Framework 4.0. I have created an EDM and data store for the app, and it successfully retrieves entities. The application holds the EDM's ObjectContext as a member-level variable, which it uses to call ObjectContext.SaveChanges(). So far, so good. I am going to refactor to repositories later. Right now, my question is a bit more basic: When I am finished with the EDM, what do I need to do to release it? Is it as simple as calling Dispose() on the ObjectContext? Thanks for your help.

• is there a multiple payment providers (paypal, ogone, ...) php module for use in a web app?

  We are building an ecommerce app where we want our users to pick out a (any provider we can make compatible with our app) payment provider. Up to today, we only support paypal and we have implemented this rather manually. We are looking for some sort of a module (free or commercial) to easily plugin in more payment providers to let customers accept payments through them. Our customers would use this to accept payments for sales in their web shops. Any ideas on such "modules"? I know of the Zend_Payment module but that's not updated anymore or isn't out yet at all. We run PHP in the Zend Framework if that matters.

• Attempt to use DLL results in error.

  I am using a library (DLL) that uses the Oracle.DataAccess DLL to connect to the database. I am doing in in C# .NET framework 3.5 When I attempt to compile, the compilation takes place, but the executable throws this error message. Could not load file or assembly 'Oracle.DataAccess, Version=2.111.7.20, Culture= neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. Is there some way to get around this? What could be causing this to happen?

  Hi, i've seen many article on encrypt/decrypt of file and typically a button is used to choose the file for encrypt and another button to decrypt the file. i've seen some application like truecrypt and probably others which does file encryption on-the-fly with transparent. this means that when a encrypted file is clicked to access, it will automatically decrypt and play/open the file. then when the file is closed, it will automatically encrypt again. some have said that the only way to detect file open is through file system filter. but is there other ways to do this in c# compact framework?

Great. But while doing some research for speeding up my database access, I ran into this blog post... Improving Entity Framework Performance The post argues that EFs poor performance compared to other frameworks is often due to the EntityConnection object being created each time a new EntityContext object is needed. To test this I manually created a static EntityConnection in Global.asax.cs Application_Start(). I then converted all my context using statements to using( MyObjContext currContext = new MyObjeContext(globalStaticEFConnection) { .... } This seems to have sped things up a bit without any errors so far as far as I can tell. But is this safe? Does using a applicationwide static EntityConnection introduce race conditions? Best regards, Kervin

  Hi, i have to set the text format for some tokens in a plain text. I'm trying to use the Text Layout Framework to improve the speed of the operation but i've founded that TLF is far slower (10X in my tests) than the old setTextFormat(). For each token i call this function: public function setTextFormat(format:TextLayoutFormat, begin:int, end:int):void{ var selection:SelectionState = new SelectionState(this._textFlow, begin, end, this._normalFormat); IEditManager(_textFlow.interactionManager).applyLeafFormat(format, selection); } is there any faster and clever way to do this operation ?   I have an XElement with values for mock data. I have an expression to query the xml: Expression<Func<XElement, bool>> simpleXmlFunction = b => int.Parse(b.Element("FooId").Value) == 12; used in: var simpleXml = xml.Elements("Foo").Where(simpleXmlFunction).First(); The design time error is: The type arguments for method 'System.Linq.Enumerable.Where(System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable, System.Func)' cannot be inferred from the usage. Try specifying the type arguments explicitly' The delegate supplied to Where should take in an XElement and return a bool, marking if the item matches the query, I am not sure how to add anything more to the delegate or the where clause to mark the type. Also, the parallel method for the real function against the Entity Framework does not have this issue. What is not correct with the LINQ-to-XML version?

  Hi, I've got a console app written that persists an object graph via Entity Framework 4.0. I loop through this to dump the execution times for each persistance. The first persistance is always the largest. Is this due to EF making the initial connection to the database and/or JIT'ing ? Here's a sample of the output: Persisted graph in **3318** millseconds. I know now that I need to attach an entity before making my changes to it. But how can do I do this: I have an MVC website, a Customer Update Page with fields: ID, Name, Address, etc. My MVC is parsing this into a Customer entity. How do I do the following: Update my entity and Save the changes to it. Catch the exception if my changes have been made since I loaded my entity.

• Log versions of all used DLLs

  I want to log the versions of all DLLs my .NET-application uses. It doesn't matter if the log-output is generated on startup or on first use of each DLL. The first solution which came to my mind was to iterate over all DLL files which reside in the same directory as my assembly. But is this the best option I have? Is there any better way to do this? It's important that the solution should also work on .NET-Compact-Framework.

• How can I extract System.Net.Mail from Mono and rename the namespaces?

  Microsoft's implementation of System.Net.Mail does not provide a robust mailing solution. I would like to use Mono's implementation of System.Net.Mail instead, however that namespace is embedded in the System.dll shipped with Mono, and has exact same namespaces as the original .net framework. What I would like to do is instead extract System.Net.Mail from the mono solution and rename namespaces to Mono.System.Net.Mail. Then I can compile this in its own DLL and finally have a mailing solution that works! Can anyone tell me how this can be done?

The question is: which libraries/frameworks do you use in your current ZF-based project? what are the best practices for ZF-based project architecture? I don't mean any components that are already a part of ZF. Please give a description of aditional frameworks you have integrated (like RuckUsing, Smarty, or Doctrine). It also applies to any GUI frameworks (perhaps you use a CSS framework), as well as JS frameworks (not just jQuery or prototype, but rather some advanced structures). The main requirement: it has to be a ZendFramework project. Additional bonus will be given to answers that describe performance optimization.

• How to serve a View as CSV in ASP.NET Web Forms

  Hi, I have a MS SQL view that I want to make available as a CSV download in my ASPNET Web Forms app. I am using Entity Framework for other views and tables in the project. What's the best way to enable this download? I could add a HyperLink whose click handler iterates over the view, writes its CSV form to the disk, and then serves that file. However, I'd prefer not to write to the disk if it can be avoided, and that involves iteration code that may be avoided with some other solution. Any ideas?

  Hi, I've installed Zend Studio 7.1.1 that contains 1.9 framework. For the server side, I use easyphp (very similar to wamp) When I create the project, I obviously obtain this architecture: MyProject |-- application | |-- Bootstrap.php | |-- configs | | `-- application.ini | |-- controllers | | |-- ErrorController.php | | `-- IndexController.php | |-- models | `-- views | |-- helpers | `-- scripts | |-- error | | `-- error.phtml | `-- index | `-- index.phtml |-- library |-- public | |-- .htaccess | `-- index.php `-- tests |-- application | `-- bootstrap.php |-- library | `-- bootstrap.php `-- phpunit.xml To launch the project, I enter: http://127.0.0.1/MonProjet/public/index.php But when I create a new controller (TestController.php) and the associated view (application.views/test/index.phtml) and when I enter: http://127.0.0.1/MonProjet/public/test the browser returns the error : object not found (404). although I activated the mod_rewrite LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so So, how can I set the routing mechanism to reach the new controllers and their views? Can you help me please? I there somewhere a tutorial on DQL-joins? I don't get it right with the help of the Doctrine documentation. Thanks! • Preventing EF4 ConstraintException when invoking TryUpdateModel

  Given following ASP.NET MVC controller code: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Create(FormCollection collection) { string[] whitelist = new []{ "CompanyName", "Address1", "Address2", ... }; Partner newPartner = new Partner(); if (TryUpdateModel(newPartner, whitelist, collection)) { var db = new mainEntities(); db.Partners.AddObject(newPartner); db.SaveChanges(); return RedirectToAction("Details/" + newPartner.ID); } else { return View(); } } The problem is with the Entity Framework 4: the example Partner entity is mapped to a database table with it's fields NOT ALLOWED to be NULL (which is ok by design - they're required). Unfortunately, invoking TryUpdateModel when some of the properties are nulls produces ConstraintException which is not expected! I do expect that TryUpdateModel return false in this case. It is ok that EF wouldn't allow set a property value to null if it should not be, but the TryUpdateMethod should handle that, and add the error to ModelState errors collection. I am wrong, or somebody screwed the implementation of TryUpdateModel method?

  Hi ** changed the example to better express the situation i am using spring 2.5 and have the following situation @Component @Scope("prototype") Class Foo { } class A { @Autowired Foo fooA; } class B { @Autowired Foo fooB; } class C { @Autowired Foo fooC; } i am trying to understand if there is some way to use @Autowired and bind the same instance of FOO onto fooA and fooB while binding a different instance to fooC i understand that if the scope of FOO will be singleton it will work but i am wandering if there is a way to achieve the same goal while using a protoype scope. also please explain is this the correct usage of the autowiring concept ? am i trying to abuse the spring framework purpose

  hello guys, just simple question, recently i have setup a web server to build project using zend framework, after setup and see those welcome page saying that you are creating websites powered by zendframework, then i try issuing command, $ zf create controller alert i get the message that saying that i've successfully create controller, view and so on, but when i try to navigate to the page by URL, ex: www.mywebapp.com/alert the page is broken, i've check those tuts but none of them showing this case. can some one define which step i've skip? update: (25/5/2010) so i've found that there is no problem, is just that i've not configured properly my route to my web apps, so i have to type URL like this: www.mywebapp.com/index.php/alert how am I going to change this? i mean i want to explode "index.php" out of URL.

• Microsoft SQL Server 2008 - 99% fragmentation on non-clustered, non-unique index

  I have a table with several indexes (defined below). One of the indexes (IX_external_guid_3) has 99% fragmentation regardless of rebuilding/reorganizing the index. Anyone have any idea as to what might cause this, or the best way to fix it? We are using Entity Framework 4.0 to query this, the EF queries on the other indexed fields about 10x faster on average then the external_guid_3 field, however an ADO.Net query is roughly the same speed on both (though 2x slower than the EF Query to indexed fields).
